Hasnt been logged in a while, couldnt see it anywhere, signs are changed a lot recently, guess its gone. Found a ribbon with nothing attached, maybe the remains of the cache

After doing the one up the road I headed back down and parked alongside here. Took me a while before I spotted the cache as per hint.

With a free weekend stretching before me like a free thing I needed to come up with a plan as to what I would do with the available caching time. I decided upon a Friday trip to Piha, Saturday a trip out to Waitawa Regional Park and Clevedon and Sunday will be Orewa and Millwater. No real goals, just find some caches and enjoy the weather.
I left work a little early so as to beat the traffic through the main busy bits, and I was successful thankfully. I managed a few caches and it was lovely and quiet everywhere before the weekend warms up with people everywhere.

Thanks G_2 for the cache. It’s #1310 for us. We found your cache on 19 July 2020. Well that’s a lot of places to hang a bison! Maybe I’ll look around some....,Gotcha!

On our way to Piha there are many interesting places to see
We stopped here and there to look for a cache or two, fun driving

Found well after grabbing the massive cobweb first (clears now...)

Returning back home with Merlot58 after our FTF at the other end of the road, we decided to head back along this windy road instead of trying to get through the traffic jam around Karekare. I had just pulled up to the intersect when Merlot asked if I'd found the cache right here. Checking my phone I saw that I hadn't, so quickly pulled over and went to search. Made a quick find.

Last cache on the road back to Auckland. Parking here is indeed slightly precarious, and so I made a quick job of it. A car broke down on the slope just as I was leaving and made getting out of the junction a lot easier with all the slowed cars. TFTC!

I was only supposed to stay in Piha for 2 nights, but ended up staying here for 6 nights, this place is just soo tranquil and beautiful. Today I decided to drive to Karekare beach and the surroundings, and it's just as beautiful here.

About this cache:
A quick find thanks to the good hint. Tftc, greetings from Norway

Making the most of the morning as I was hoping to see Piha for the first time with a bright blue winter sky, but nope, once again it's raining... At least there's caches!

Even though the log is plastic, its still dripping with water. First checked out the odd dome sewer grate. Eventually found right spot after running back to my car few times to get out of rain and think

I was heading out to Piha to walk to the waterfall when I noticed this showing as unfound on my map, yet I knew I had found it when I was out in Piha in March with RustyNZ. So a very belated found log with the date I found it!

Driven past these caches too many times so tonight decided to stop and find them. Not too tricky here to find and nice to finally convert these to smileys. TFTC!!!

Last cache find of a beautiful weekend. Cache in good condition. I was very lucky with the traffic on this stop, there was a lull, but the weather was not perfect and the rain was threatening rain on your picnic so I guess some people stayed home.

#3250. We are up in Auckland on holiday visiting family. Today it was a bit wet outside so just stayed indoors most of the time. But in the afternoon there was a chance to get out for a bit of caching out west. I parked just up the side road and walked back to the GZ. The cache was not where I expected it to be but after a careful scratch around in the leaf litter, I found it on the ground. Signed the logbook and replaced the container where the hint suggested it should be hidden. Thanks for hiding it here.

Drove some distance into Lone Kauri Road - traffic busy even along here!
Turned around and parked at a safe corner. Easier if you have a driver!
Found after short hunt - many thanks

Sadly this was the first day of my lovely NZ trip with really bad weather: A lot of rain and strong wind, too. And it was really a pity because I couldn't enjoy beautyfull Piha area as I should. And I had to cancel my hiking plans. Another two good reasons to come back one day. But I fell in love with the country and the people and the food and everything else so I will come back!!!!! When I found this cache I had no idea what a Kauri is but later I saw a few of this increadable and majestic trees.

Thanks a lot for the cache.

Had just done the mercer bay climb and was heading home. Had 4 of us, so to save space we signed the log as "SEAC" (South & East Auckland Crew).

Sorry, can't recall much about this cache Razz

After a quick u turn to be able to park safely for this one it was a quick grab, sign and replace. I was in a group after doing the Mercer Bay event so the log was signed as 'Team SEAC' to save space, TFTC!

I like the "A Dictionary of Maori Place Names" explanation of what "kauri" is.

> KAURI: Short for Kaurihohore, a bald or smooth-barrelled kauri tree.

Well, a kauri is kauri, of course! Very Happy

Thanks for the cache!

Came across this cache on our way back home after completing the Mercey Bay cache and decided on the quick park and grab.... found a safe place to pull off the road and made the find.

Signed as SEAC (South East Auckland Crew) to save log book space.

TFTC.

Heading home from the Mercer Bay climb with UncleSamNZ, dragon.griffin and Stik-a-crane. We decided that since we were out this way, in an area where none of us come to often, we may as well grab a few caches while we were here.

A nice, simple park and grab, just what we needed with our flagging energy levels, after the Mercer Bay climb! UncleSam just about parked on top of it, so it took us no more than a minute to get this one ticked off!

Log signed as "SEAC" (South East Auckland Crew) to save time and log space.

TFTC!!

Attended a nearby Mercer Bay event, followed by exploring of Piha. Travelling with Gorby, ivss.xx and harisree. Some sneaky parking and a quick grab. Thanks for the hide Big Grin

I drove into Lone Kauri Rd, made a u-turn and stopped right hard up against the sign, with hazard lights flashing, I got out and grabbed the cache. Where have I heard this before? TFTC/.

28-Dec-15
Stopped my car as safely as I could a little way off and then went to find the cache. All good as per the hint. Log wettish but I still managed to make my mark on it. TFTC, Biggles.

Nice quick stop & grab, log wet, so dried out best we could to sign. Thanks.

Almost to Piha! We stopped a few times on the way for caches and for lunch at the top of the Waitakeres, what a gorgeous part of the world! Stopped just around the corner and MrNZT made the quick find. Signed log and carried on to the beach. TFTC!

Out and about enjoying a hike around Karekare this afternoon. I took the Zion Hill track in, with a couple of side adventures, and came back along the beach for a nice loop. After completing my loop I decided to take Lone Kauri road out and collect these two drive-byes on the way. I had actually tried to stop for this one on the way in, but there was no parking to be had on the main road. Not much more parking was found on Lone Kauri, but enough to get a smiley here. Cheers for the hide!

Out early this morning so this was a quick find and record.

Nice quick find today while passing .... Thanks ! Off to Karekare and Piha today with grandchildren and caching buddy .

24-Dec-14
Nice and quiet today, no muggles in sight. Enjoyed a walk through the bush. Stopped to pick this one up on the way home. Dropped the cache container top and had to rumage through the leaves on the ground for a while to recue it, whew!!! TFTC. Smile

08-Nov-14
Yay! Have been down lone Kauri road to do the Canyon, bloody outstanding trip (as long as you know people who have done it before). Cheers!

Seond Geocache to find on my way to Piha during the early morning hours. Good that I own a small car so parking was not an issue collecting this smiley. TFTC

27-Sep-14
Checked both sides of the road and soon hit the jackpot. TFTC

03-Sep-14
Spent ages looking at all the trees until I read a hint in a past log-then found it quickly. If anyone is wondering about the Lone Kauri tree itself after which the road is named, the stump can be found about 100m further along Piha Rd (towards beach) on right just by the guard rail-not much is left.

25-May-14
I got this after doing a 7 hr hike today, got a FTF then much later this little cache on my way home, Thanks for the cache.

10-May-14
Wanted to grab this one from the car but Leon wasn't prepared to drive his fancy new 4x4 around the back of the lamppost. T4TC

10-May-14
Still decided to go for a bit of caching after postponing a slightly more ambitious hike due to pending rains. Don't want to get stuck in a narrow gorge with no good alternate escape routes when the downpour hits. Found with KiwiLeon and GreenblAt with KL doing the driving and GB doing all the legwork for this one. Cheers for the cache.

27-Apr-14
A plan was hatched last night to make an attempt on "Holey Mercey" cache in Piha with Nova and HPG, so we turned it into a day adventure and found some caches on our way up and on the way home.

Hint made for a quick find. TFTC.

27-Apr-14
Was up in Auckland to collect the cache, holey mercy. We were collecting caches in the area and on the way home. It was a long day but always glad to add another smilie to the list

27-Apr-14
Out on a caching mission with Novalightning and HKCB to knock off Holy Mercy. Of course we couldn't ignore the other caches in the area so we left Hamilton early to get in a full days caching.

No kauris spotted today but there was a cache so that is always a bonus

27-Mar-14
Easy one and no traffic. On our way to another one of the CO in the bush Big Grin
Cheers nzkeko

27-Mar-14
No 'Lone sitting bull' sighted, but was ready to move incase he appeared. TFTC, nicely done, good description. Found a lone kauri later enroute to Apollos pool, with Nzkeko.

The pressure was on with this one! Managed to locate in good time so I wasn't spotted. TFTC

Lady Thrips quickly jumped out to find the cache while I waited in the camper. TFTC!

A big thank you to all the geocache owners for being our “tour guides” in New Zealand while we are on our short holiday visit to this extraordinarily beautiful country! We traveled the North Island in our little camper van and we came across minimal damaged caches and we only had very few DNF’s.

"Groete" all the way from South Africa!

09-Mar-14
Quick stop and grab although I had to cramble around the ignoring 'For Sale' sign, some muggles have no respect.

08-Mar-14
Missed on our way out so grabbed on our way home-tftc

04-Mar-14
Decided to drive past this one, as there was a crew of people maintaining the plants along the road.

13-Feb-14
On great tour with Lemmer in New Zealnd we foundamazing spots. Thanks for all of it. Flatrate

22-Dec-13
Grabbing a couple of caches on the way back home after some quiet time at Mercer Bay and made the short detour to collect the two caches nearby. First one was found without a problem and luckily no issues here either. Plenty of cars coming by but going too fast to be distracted by me. TFTC

18-Nov-13
Managed to get the car off the road a few meters short of the cache and quickly had the cache in hand when at GZ.

TFTC

16-Nov-13
Mental note: when you are the passenger, help the drive out with instructions of where the cache is! ><

Got out and got to GZ only to be cursed with cache blindness. mike-miss got out and joined the search and spotted the hide. Thanks!

16-Nov-13
A quick find here thankfully as we parked the car at the stop sign with the hazards on. No one heading up Lone Kauri this afternoon but a fair few cars heading back from Piha/Karekare. TFTC! Big Grin

Found orginally as part of phasevisitor team, now created own account, re-logging as yorkshirekiwi83.

I had a day off work today and a few hours to kill, so decided to head out to Piha and find a few caches out there. Stopped for this new cache on the way on the off chance the FTF hadn't been claimed yet, but discovered that the cache had been found this morning. A nice hide, TFTC!

FTF - yahoo -

Had been looking at caches close to where we had been staying and noticed that there were a couple not found on the way or at Piha. Talked to RuruNZ and we decided that we would have a go for these today as we make out way (the long way) to the airport for our flight home. Did as suggested and as I got out RuruNZ had her hand on the cache. Nice one.

We were surprised to see this one still unlogged by late afternoon, so decided to go to an event in Mt Eden via the Piha road.
Turned into Lone Kauri Rd, but couldn't do a U turn in the campervan, so dropped one off to find the cache while the driver went on to find a turning place.
Found the cache and not really surprised to find we were third in the book. Thanks.

Joint FTF at 10:19am with kiwicampnut on Day 8 of our trip north or Mega.
We've been staying nearby, so a trip out to "do" some of Piha really was a must.
kiwicampnut noticed the couple of unclaimed FTF's late Monday night, but figure that if they were still unfound after 3 days they were likely to still be unfound the next morning.
After packing (and repacking) the bags and saying goodbye to our host we headed even more west.
Followed the instructions ... looked a bit ... and there it was.
But were we first? So many unlogged finds over the weekend it wasn't certain, til we opened the logbook to find it clean on both side. YAY!
Sorry, phasevisitor, phone misbehaving again (phone not app) so haven't been logging as I go like I often do.
Nice to get an unexpected FTF. SmileSmile
