Saddly this one is AWOL. Arranged a replacement with temp RITR log and left nestled in a tree. cheers.
New milestone with my 9000th find today
Day 14, Wednesday 2 February - Gisborne - Tolaga Bay - Anaura Bay - Omanuka Bay - then the back road from Togaga Bay to Gisborne on a TMGT hunt for the day. Stopping off at Grays Bush on our way back to Zara. Come on Lenny and Toby lets get moving!
Zara, Toby, Lenny and I are on our North Island expidition for a couple of weeks. Got The Seagnoid along for the first 4 days, heading to the Auckland Mega. PWGTs and TMGTs are on the radar for this trip. Lots of driving on gravel roads and visited lots of amazing places on our 6000km road trip snagging 200+ caches along the way. Visiting Cape Reinga, Bay of Islands, Gisborne and White Rock along our journey. The highlight cache for the trip was GC815zh Journey to Pandora (night cache in Ack) Another awesome trip. Thanks to all CO's.

I decided to go on the Gisborne Grand Tour today and being Sunday I was hoping that there would be no logging operations. I was right and very thankful. About 33km of these roads are one lane gravel with big potholes and sometimes with a ridge down the middle. Definitely don't want to do this in your 2WD vehicle. I also recommend taking a radio that has channels 84 and 86 on it. My handheld only went to 80. Luckily I only met two other vehicles and that was when I was climbing the hills up from Tolaga Bay, one was going my way and warned me that a stock truck was coming down one of the single lane parts of the road. PHEW!
This container was full of water due to there being holes in the lid. I replaced the container with a new one.
Cheers for the cache.

Nice quick find, I stopped to let a logging truck through and I'm surprised at how many I've come across so far.

#8041. Prior to driving north to locate the TMGT caches in Hawkes Bay and Gisborne, I contacted the CO (who lives nearby) to see whether they wanted me to replace any caches in the series that had gone missing after the big flood a few years ago and some additional major flooding since 2018. They gave me the green light to put in new containers and shift the caches to nearby more secure locations. This one I searched for thoroughly on my last visit and its been looked for by others since. The old magnetic cache has been scoured off in the intense flooding and debris slurry that came down from the hills above. So have replaced with a new container near the bridge but at a higher level above the river, by a small shrub. The CO has the new coordinates and hints and will hopefully update the web page soon. Thanks taybee nz for showing us this hidden valley behind Tolaga Bay.

The last of this series that we had time for today, as we needed to get back to the holiday park where we were staying at a sensible time. It gets dark early in Winter!
I crossed the bridge, looking for traces of this cache in its previous location to no avail. I then retraced my steps, and, after a brief discussion, GSEL and I decided on what would probably be the best location to leave a replacement cache.
TFTC Taybee, an interesting road you've found to take us along today,

another cache we wasted time trying to find
guess magnet is in tologa bay by now

No luck here either. Lots of storm debris all around the river margins. Hard to credit a magnetic could be dislodged but a search of all metallic areas in the hinted zone at various levels failed to reveal a cache. So my early morning run today yielded a grand total of 4 DNF's and one did not attempt.
Cache is back up and running thanks to a local cacher who is doing a maintenance run for me
thanks W.E.K.A for the head up on the Cache
New hint Right hand Sode of bridge look to gisborne Mag

This must surely be the worst geocache series we have ever attempted. We found only 3 of the 10 caches and this was another of the 7 DNFs. We suggest other cachers don't bother with the long drive required until the cache owner has checked the series.
2 chipmunks in the box one girl one boy do not wait to long as they may need a bigger box. lol cool spot for a hide. TFTC
Decided to come back to Gisborne via these caches.
Good drive along although some areas were nearly blocked with fallen trees.
Funny how the locals would clear just enough for their 4x4 or ute!
