We searched at GZ but were unlucky today. Our New Year caching trip in 2024 was in and around Auckland with Lis's Crew. Today we were planning on going in and around Titirangi however a FTF popped up this morning at the Cascades so we have made a detour on our travels. What a great way to spend a sunny summers day.
KR had spotted this beast while I was still on Te Wai Pounamu then recommended it now that I've joined him here in W Auckland. Our eldest joined us for a quick overnight visit from Kirikiriroa so when we'd seen her off with a yummy breakfast, we set off for a day of beach caching. I'm not sure that I would have spotted the stealthy beast for myself. I was looking confidently but for a different species altogether! It was most deflating to see that I'd been observed by it all along. Definitely a fave for such creativity. Tftc
A nice quick find, though the cache is no longer magnetic. Spotted the P-rex and had to smile, so fav point from me. Thanks for placing your cache.
I'm in Auckland and I am exploring the region while I am based here. Today was a bit damp, so stayed close to home. Some heavy down pours and it was a little cold too. I still had a great time.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

We didn’t spot any dinosaurs today but did manage to find the cache. Not magnetic anymore though and alot of cars passing by.
Awesome picture, well designed, loved the find and logical but blind. Not magnetized but its under a toenail.
Very very cool cache, easily spotted the one who had his eye on us. Thanks for the find
Had a good laugh about this sign here while headed back from Piha!
Cache container different, but still in place

I found this cache as a member of the team LaMaLaMa (now: Mr_Lama).
Since the team unfortunately split up, I am re-logging with my new account Lærry.
I hope you will understand.
Furthermore I thank you for hiding the many great caches!
Of course I will leave a favo to each cache where the original account did it. If I forget a cache, you are welcome to write to me.
Best wishes, Lærry

Thanks evilno9 for the cache. It’s #1307 for us. We found your cache on 19 July 2020. No sign of a magnet but found the container exactly where the hint said it would be.
We weren't too sure what to expect until we got to GZ. Definitely a good representation of this prehistoric animal TFTC
TFTC. Saw the dinosaur. No pen so photo to prove find. There is no magnet holding this cache in place!
Me and FMZ were passing through getting an ftf out at Karekare. Passed by and checked... yep cache gone. Made a little replacement and re-hid it. Hope this is ok with the evil one.
Today was the day that I tried to sign off all the caches on the roadside of Scenic Drive. I was very thankful that I didn't have my snail shell in tow but then being an ex-Aucklander I knew what this road was like.
I was also thankful that today was a weekday when the traffic is a tad lighter.
The logsheet was a tad damp and difficult ti get out but managed it in the end. I removed one inch (you young ones will have to Google how long that is)of the sheet so that it would fit back easily.
Cheers for the cache.

Staying in the local area so the Scenic Drive caches will have to get done. TFTC
FTF on the new log, easy find at Pihanosaurus’s feet, not as scary as he sounds! TFTC
#2327 As I head from Auckland to Karekare Beach, at 9:05am I stopped for some caches. This one was an easy find, just how I like them. Problem is that the rusty tin wouldn't budge open. So I took a photo of it with my GPS on the hood of my car. Can the CO please replace the container. TFBMH.
Disabled for the duration of the Rahui placed by Te Kawerau a Maki. Further info here http://tekawerau.iwi.nz/
We pulled over a little too late and had to walk back to GZ, which turned out to be fortunate as we had a good view of Rex as we approached.
Traffic wasn't too heavy today so we didn't have to wait long for a gap and were pleased to find the cache quickly once the coast was clear.
At first we had a bit of trouble opening it as it had rusted shut but a combination of perseverance and a handy TOTT gained us access to the log.
We had to wait a bit longer for another gap in the traffic before we could safely rehide the container and then headed back to the car giving Rex a farewell wave.
Thanks evilno9 for a fun and very cleverly named cache.

Out and about for a spot of caching in this splendid Autumn weather today. Heading west, to the coast and Mercer Bay. Anyway, I have based this cache on several occasions but didn't have the time/inclination to stop until this morning. I parked up next to GZ and put my hand right on the hide for a super quick find. Looked up and spied the Rex in the wild. Now I see it! Cheers for the cache placement!
On our way to Piha today, mainly to hunt down a puzzle cache I solved this morning by the same CO so we stopped off to look for this one on the way out there. We pulled up in the recommended spot and at first I could not catch a glimpse of the Pihannosuarus Rex at all - thought it would be a hard thing to miss! Then I looked at the right thing and saw him clear as day, very good! Hiding in plain sight all the time.
Having found the dinosaur it was time to find the cache - the hint was clear as a bell and the cache was found super quickly in the first place we looked. Quick sign and replace and all good. Some muggles were parked at the other end of the stopping area in what we would have called back in the day a beach buggy but they were playing no attention to us so all good. Thanks for placing this here, and the tip on the big lizard - not every day you get to see a dinosaur.

Such a cute Pihannosaurus! Some good humour there! This cache definitely receives an FP!
Got here after a good meal at the café nearby.

This cache definitely gets a favorite point for humor and imagination. Thanks for the cache, and greetings from Sweden!
First cache for the day. Quick find. Have never noticed the Pihannosaurus before!
After a great day at Karekare we did a couple of drive bys on the way home. Merlot58 had pointed out this P. Rex previously as we were passing but unable to stop, but it wasn't until today that I finally had a chance to stop and find this cache.
That's my first visit at this beautyfull country and I prefer hiking because in my opinion it is the best way to explore an area. But today the weather was quite bad and I stopped my try very soon. Too wet! so I went back to my car and decided to pick up a number of drive through caches. So I cae along here and fond the little dinosaur immediatly.
thanks a lot for the cache.

#11722. One of those caches where the title only makes sense once you got to GZ. Nicely spotted! TFTC.
Tomorrow we leave Auckland for Mt Maunganui, so it was our last chance to head out to Piha, a first visit for me and a second after many years for StreetWalker. We thought a weekday would be a quieter option than a weekend day, and so it was. What a beautiful part of the country. Many thanks to the COs for taking us to some interesting places.
Understood the cache name at GZ,as I had no trouble locating the Pihannosaurus Rex. Ha-ha very good. Cache was also tracked down without any problems. TFTC.

Gorby mate, you've just gotta open your mind man...
It all depends on how we look at things, and not how they are in themselves.
Heavy.

Had just done the mercer bay climb and was heading home. Had 4 of us, so to save space we signed the log as "SEAC" (South & East Auckland Crew)
Had to laugh when I saw the sign....very well done

Having just completed an event at Mercer Bay a group of us were picking up a few caches on our way home and signing the log 'Team SEAC' to save space.
After doing a u turn so we could park safely it was a quick grab, sign and replace as there was only one place it could've been TFTC!

FITW Gorbygorbachov, rustynz, harisree (Mrs.)
Pihannosaurus Rex was a bipedal carnivore but unlike other tyrannosaurids, it had a tiny skull, quite unbalanced by a long, heavy swanson tail.
Relative to its large and powerful hind limbs or 'pihas', Pihannosaurus fore limbs were short and quite useless, called by some 'quinns'.
Pihannosaurus rex was an apex predator, preying upon Titirangisaurs, Hendersonians, and possibly Aratakiopods. Some experts, however, have suggested the dinosaur was primarily a weird junction of roads. The question of whether Pihannosaurus was an apex predator or just a junction was among the longest ongoing debates in sillyontology. It is accepted now that Pihannosaurus rex acted as a predator, and also provided people with choices on where to go as all the junctions do.
Thanks for the cache!

yes we dared to take the challenge of finding the cache from the feet of Mr.Pihannosaurus. but I must admit that more than making us scared, it made us laugh. tftc evil no.09

After completing the Mercey Bay multi we were heading for home gathering a few road side caches, when we over shot the suitable parking spot.... had to do a short dash back to GZ but with 4 of us looking the find was swift.
Signed the log as SEAC to save log book space.
On to the next one.

Heading home from the Mercer Bay climb with UncleSamNZ, dragon.griffin and Stik-a-crane. We decided that since we were out this way, in an area where none of us come to often, we may as well grab a few caches while we were here.
Had to perform a u-turn for this cache, as we were coming back from Piha, but despite the busyness of the road, we were able to do so.
It was a quick find at GZ, and at the time I wondered about the funny cache name. It's only now, as I look at a photo taken by other cachers, that I have "spotted" him, and been able to have a bit of a giggle about it. Very funny!!!

This is one of those caches that I said one day I will stop, and today was that day! must have decided to save it for something special (Event day, and walk to Mercer Bay), so after a lot of walking and exploring, its the drive home. With harisree, ivss.xx and Gorby we make our way to GZ, and at last one I find (the others are just too quick!)
I tell ya, I must be a sandwich short of a picnic, or maybe I'm a few beers short of a six-pack, or a burger short of a combo meal, or maybe my antenna doesn't pick up all the channels. But when I came here last time I couldn't understand the Piha-nnosaurus thing. It wasn't until my more obviously intelligent Latvian friend ivss_xx pointed out the obvious then suddenly the lights went on and someone was now home....
Out and about with Team Welsh to grab the SD series (and any other cache that we passed) along Scenic Drive. A dose of the flu meant that the plan was to do the drivebys and leave the walking for another day. Started at the end and went to the beginning. Thanks.
Had arranged to met up with Trout-fly today to pick up as many drive by caches as we could. Had a great time finding 35/35 for the day, A nice quick find on our circuit around Scenic Drive. TFTC
Today Mrs Biggles and I decided to drive from one end of the Scenic Drive to the other. it's been a few years since either of us did that. We managed to find a few caches along the way. We parked in the Elevation car parked where we stopped for lunch and I risked life and limb crossing the road to get to GZ. No problems once there and I managed to evade both the T-rex and the T-raffic. TFTC, Biggles.
Today was such a nice day me and the Mr decided to head out and do some exploring for the day. We decide to head West and came across the Elevation cafe, having heard lots of great things about it we stopped for a bite to eat. What an amazing view and good food to top it off. Then we headed over the road to get the cache. I had used this one for my pocket query and it was funny that this was the first cache I went for for the day. TFTC #440
Quick park & grab on my way to Piha and I did chuckle when I saw the meaning of the title. Very clever title and clue. Gets an FP from me. TFTC
A nice quick park and grab on the way out to Piha today. Great name, I smiled when I saw the sign
After my Event in the City funkymunkyzone took me and squeezy_92 to a lot of nice places and caches!
This one was easy to find.
I smiled when I saw the cache location. Cool!!
TFTC!

Headed up Scenic Drive and this was stop #5. There was an awful lot of traffic passing by on Labour Day but managed to retrieve the cache finally. TFTC
