#18634 - 5:41:00 PM; Day 38 of the European Road Trip and another day in the City of Westminster. While the geohoney enjoyed some retail therapy along Oxford Street, I set off on the hunt for some geocaches. Made my way along Bond Street, then into Mayfair for a couple of caches. It was then back to Picadilly to see "The Book of Mormon" and on to Trafalgar Square for a few more caches before tea in Chinatown. There was a rally underway at Trafalgar Square and despite a large police presence, I was able to mingle with the crowd and gather the information that I needed for this cache. Answers have been sent off to the CO to get the OK. A fave for the location. Greetings from Australia and TFTE Heidi Seekers
My first cache in London/UK (assuming my answers are acceptable). An iconic location. Thanks for the earth cache Heidi Seekers!
Karen and Nadia travelled for a girlie day in London and start our Christmas shopping. As we were close by we stopped to look at this. TFTC
In London primarily to deliver presents to friends but making a long weekend of it. Decided that we would try to find as many earthcaches as we could, this one being the first. Located the damaged granite, took a few pics and carried out the necessary research. E-mailed the answers to the CO and permission to log granted. Nice to be educated about something we take for granted. TFTC.
We are visiting London for a couple of days. Of course we are going to search for a couple of caches together with team Geogritty. This is a nice place.
When I am back home I will send the answers.

Another very interesting earthcache in a location that you wouldn't expect one. Great to be able to do this in amongst the touristy things. Answers will be sent later. Cheers.
My third earthcache of the day. Had to delay inspecting the column due to whole are being fenced off to erect the Christmas tree. Visited the Rembrandt exhibition ( highly recommended) and then noticed access was available again. Really interesting about the cracks which led to some internet research into the causes. A favourite point for making such a well known landmark interesting for different reasons.
We visited this spot in the evening, so it was a bit hard to tell colours etc. but besides that it's much easier to study rocks in public places in the dark. Nice spot! TFTC
Logging with kind permission of CO. Attempted as a tag team of Eagle’s eyes on the ground in London and Owl’s research skills in Adelaide, South Australia. (Eagle missed their 30th wedding anniversary and need to make up for it big time!) Owl has been here before, but long before she was a geocacher, so it was interesting to see the obelisk in a different way. A favourite point for the fun and some unexpected answers.
we came to london for a few days, besides visiting big ben, london eye , abby , oxford street, picadilly circus, pubs, bars, harrods , china town and winter wonderland,
we also found a few caches,
thanks for showing us.

The thing I enjoy most about earthcaches is that they often make you look at the familiar in an unfamiliar way. This is especially so with city centre examples. I've visited this spot many times down the years but never noticed the fire damaged and distorted rock before! And as a child of the Blue Peter generation I will always recall the episode when John Noakes climbed up to the top to help scrape off some pigeon droppings - he was almost screaming like a pig sat in his bosuns chair !! What also always fascinates me is the variety of languages you hear at this spot. Great location and earthcache. Email sent with answers. TFTC

[font=Comic Sans Ms][green]A busy day today. I was attempting 8 icons in a day (which I managed )
I found: Letterbox, Traditional, Multi, Virtual, Wherigo, Unknown, Webcam and finished off with an Earthcache.
Most of the day was spent in a London, but managed to grab 3 types, before heading off.
My first of 2 Earthcaches.
I enjoyed studying the granite and finding the answers.

Thanks to Heidi Seekers I learned a lot about Granite while I was earthcaching in London. This is my second of their London ECs in one day and both are dedicated to this geological topic. The answers were gathered before we entered the National Gallery (which is just around the corner). Thanks for this very informative EC that combines geology and history. Greetings from Slovenia!
In London for a days caching with the Cotswold Caching Crew (Walktall, Gackt, Pir8sOld&New and xJammmzy) with the intention of finding a good selection of all sorts of caches. Geting towards the end of the day now and darkness has fallen.

We were on our way to see La Boheme at the Coliseum, so it was dark when we arrived here, but just OK to discern what we needed. Thanks for the quick responses to the emails. Interesting to see Craigleith sandstone both here and at Chandos House (Chan Dos & Don'ts), since we live in Edinburgh and not far from Craigleith quarry (now a shopping centre) but there is another earthcache in the remains of the quarry behind Sainsburys!
Skybluesbazza and I were on a short break down in London and today we were trying to find five earth caches and five virtuals in a day. We had already found the virtuals and this was earthcache number four.
I had never noticed the damaged stones on the base of the column before now! Thanks for placing.
I had never noticed the damaged stones on the base of the column before now! Thanks for placing.
4th Earthcache find of the day. Whilst in trafalgar square, we also noticed a statue with a large cockerel on it, which when we returned next day in better light was actually blue! We wanted to climb up, but it was a bit too slippery after all the rain to climb up and inspect the column itself.
Came to London to meet up with some of the Cotswold Caching group: Gackt, Pir8sOld&New, tarmacjohn and xJammmzy for a day of caching in the big smoke, hopefully finding a good selection of caches.
The sun had well and truly set by the time we got to Trafalgar Square but it never gets dark in London. Lots of people about and lovely lighting used in the square
Email already sent to CO with the answers (hopefully!).

In the capital for business and had just enough time to grab this one after visiting the nearby Paddington Bear.
Been passed this landmark a million times pre and post geocaching but never really considered the place in this much detail quite an eye opener, the damage in particular. Fairly straight forward finding all the required information despite the numerous tourists and answers submitted and accepted.
Photographed pirate TB which seemed somewhat appropriate. Thats for mantaining an earthcache in such an iconic locations. TFTC

Logging with permission, ventured to Trafalgar Square on my first solo outing in London after spending the day in the British Museum. I must say, photos of this incredible monument to Horatio Nelson do not do justice to the shear size. Made a few return visits to enjoy the nearby galleries and to ride a Boris down the mall, probably my favourite place to sit and enjoy on this trip! TFTC Heidi Seekers!
Found this earth cache for my 800th cache. I wanted something in London with either London or the name of a famous landmark in and it doesn't get much more famous than this! Thanks for the lesson and fave point for the locations.
Poeser and I were passing through London after our honeymoon in Greece, and had to stop for some of the new caches since our last visit. Every time I visit London, I sit in a cafe nearby and enjoy the view of the square, so I was excited to see a new cache so close. Thanks for the earthcache, some of the information I found out in my search for the answers was very fun to read about!
GeoTech* and I had the privilege of staying here overnight to wrap up our honeymoon and got a few caches this morning before heading home. It was a nice brisk and chilly morning for us from Arizona, USA where it has been in the 70s F. GeoTech* sent in our information for this cache. TFTC!
1,616. Out for a family trip to London, today we visited Wembley, Holland Park and the area around this cache for the event that was being held this evening.
We arrived in the dark, lovely lighting here and still very busy but just about managed to acquire the information.
Thanks for bringing us back here.

#2402 As we were visiting today we took the opportunity of completing this Earthcache. Although, we have been to Trafalgar Square many times before we never knew about the fire and the damage it caused to the plinth. It is another great example of how geocaching leads cachers to some amazing places and helps them unearth some less known facts.
Our answers to the CO were compiled from both Internet research, information on the cache page and on-site facts and after sending them to the CO we were pleased to receive written confirmation that they were all fine.
We also learned another interesting fact relating to the statue of Nelson in that they made him a 'spare nose' just in case the original got damaged whilst it was being raised into place. It was not needed and is now affixed to the wall of Admiralty Arch nearby. We will definitely go to look for it when we next visit the area - TFTEarthcache and for furnishing us with so much interesting information ' Heidi Seekers'

A weekend in London cannot go without caching, although city-caching is not our cup of tea , it's a bit like a frontlawn cache... feels like doing something wrong with al the muggles and police around you... But an earthcache is just like playing tourist, so we felt fine about it (hope the answers are correct).
Found this earthcache during our celebration-weekend in London.
This will be one of the two most western finds in our caching-history!

A visit to London today to pick up a very special cache for a milestone and see what else we can find while we were there
We'd decided to host an event here (having attended someone else's previously) and as this Earthcache had been thoughtfully placed here since our last visit, it'd be rude not to
Thanks for bringing us here, and for this informative and interesting cache. Felt like we've learnt something for sure The story about the bonfires was very interesting. Quite apt that we came to visit here this week of all weeks.

We tackled this Earthcache after attending The Beachies' Cheeky Freaky Three-K Event in Trafalgar Square.
There were less tourists clambering over the base of the monument in the evening but we returned for another look at the bonfire-damaged block and to take more photographs in daylight on Sunday morning.
Thanks for an interesting Earthcache, and the very prompt approval to log the find.

I should do more earthcaches. I forget how enjoyable the learning experience can be and how much more interesting the world seems with a little knowledge.
I enjoyed reading about why Cornish granite was used and how this was related to the technological advances in transportation, and the London landmarks and environment that are built of the stuff.
Thanks

Logging with the permission of the CO. Was in London for the day with my brother MachineMaster and we were trying to check out as many sights as possible. Having visited this spot many times, it nice to be able to stop and gain a little more insight into surrounds rather than taking the usual tourist pictures. TFTC Heidi Seekers
Of course I had to visit Nelson's Column, once again, during my trip, this year. A lot of tourists, a lot of police, dry weather, a lot of celebrations this week too. I made some investigation to find the answers, but had to look up other data on the www and found everything eventually.

We ended our day in London with a trip to visit Nelson. It was a bit dark by the time we got there so don't think we got to see the best of him but we took some snaps and had a peak around for a while before heading towards the tube for our journey back to the hotel. Thanks for setting the cache.

I have visited London several times, and been to visit Trafalgar square many times. A lovely square, now also with an earth cache. The nice CO has approved my answers. We visited quite late in the evening, but there were lots of people around. We could study the column in peace and nobody took any notice of our scrutiny of the stone. Thanks a lot for making this cache. TFTC
Mrs GF happened to be in the area and so took the opportunity to pick up this cache. GF jr is into geology so these types of caches are very useful to her and Mrs GF who might have to study geology with her. TFTC

Kind of ran past this on the way to the tube so didn't have time to stop and properly explore but got a photo and even visited the famous McDonald's which was damaged in the riots!
Found it during my four day stay in London. I found this cache during my first day caching walk as 7th cache for today, after I found nearby "Ostra antigua" EarthCache. Explored the site a bit to find all the information needed for logging this EarthCache. Another nice example of good geology education opportunity in the middle of urban environment. After finding this cache I went for my first Webcam Cache.

My wife and I escaped the rain and wind at the Norwegian west coast for a long week end in London. The weather was sunny and we had 24C the last day of October.
This earth cache was the fourth of the five "must log earth caches" list when I was allowed (by my wife ) to spend two hours of Earth geocaching on Saturday. I made it within the two hours limit.
Great cache. I have been here many times before, but never as a geocacher.

We (the Belgarin family) came to London for the weekend.
We had a very nice but very busy time here.
Off course some caches couldn't be left out of the program.
In big cities, certainly during rush hours, it is easier to do some virtual ans earth caches since by finding these, you attract far less attention than with searching high and low for some tiny container.
During a stroll around the center, we also passed here.
