I came out here with my sister and decided to do this cache and learn something while I was here. A beautiful day for it, although the wind was cold. Thanks for the cache!

Incredible place. I love a good lighthouse.

24-Oct-24
Found with Gazania Rigens, as per her log. She has sent our answers. Geology can be SO confusing! Always fascinating though. I got talking to a delightful couple from the USA on my way down to the lighthouse and they were kind enough to take a couple of snaps of me + lighthouse and + nuggets (+ mist + wild breakers!)Very much enjoyed this little round trip walk, spotting seals hauled out on the rocks far below.TFTC

I visited this magical place with Zouave and have tried to work out the answers for both of us. It was a misty and windy day, which added to the adventure. It was definitely one of my favourite spots along our road trip on South Island and luckily I have one FP left to award. TFTC!

Hello from Seattle, geocaching ground zero! This area truly feels like the southern version of Lands End. Like the Nuggets are the last land mass before Antarctica. What a beautiful place. This gets a favorite. Thanks for the fun cache!

I have been curious about that place from the beginning of our vacation planning.Yet, Schneefrau and I have been able to visit it and have seen all its beauty - especially when the sun found a hole in the clouds what it thankfully did from time to time. Many thanks for this earthcache.

**Log about this cache:**A very nice place and so many sealions.**General log:**After years of planning and the canceling of trip due to the corona crisis, the time had finally come:***"more than 5 weeks in New Zealand".***And how beautiful it was!Visited both the north and south islands, many tourist attractions have a cache nearby so I could do some as well.Lots of virtuals and earth caches too and traditionals. But also done a few multi caches here and there also even a mystery and wherigo cache. The trip to New Zealand was great and we saw a lot of nice places. The country has so many different types of landscapes. And the nice thing was that it is winter in the Netherlands but summer in New Zealand SmileToo bad it takes so long to fly and that the flight is so expensive otherwise i can go here next year again. Now you can enjoy it, logging the caches is also part of it. I will try to email the answers for the earthcaches and virtual caches to the relevant co`s as soon as possible. But first log all caches and upload the photos .Submitted via Garmin Live Geocaching

What a stunning place! Great views either side of the walkway. Plenty of noisy seals below on the rocks.Interesting rock formations off the point. It was blowing a gale, with rough seas to the west, and a calm sea to the east.Took lots of photos and made the observations and sent them to the CO

Day 5: The CatlinsOur journey today took us down to the Catlins for a whirlwind tour of all the sights we could squeeze into a day trip. Of course, there were geocaches to be had too, plus plenty of photos and sightseeing. Thankfully the weather held up for most parts today, so we could enjoy all the great scenery and the geocaches as well!(end of the cut and paste bit)I love a good Earthcache in a sublime location and this one was no different. I had the chance to test out the nifty compass on my iWatch too, and learnt a little bit more about the synclines of Southland. Thats quite an angle, I must say! TFTEC!

Together with Travelser I'm going Down Under. We are driving around with a motorhome. After 7 weeks driving around through Australia we arrived the 2th November in New Zealand. For ten days we will cross the Northern Island and than for 2 weeks the Southern Island.During our trip we of course search for several caches. Most of them brought us to very nice spots, like this one.All the CO's, and in this case funkymunkyzone, thanks for bringing us here and give our trip a special accent.

We enjoyed walking out to the lighthouse in mid-afternoon. We don't think we have ever been all the way out here before, though that seems unliekly. No seals or penguins to be seen except one seal later in the day.

25-May-23
A very good earthcache at a wonderful spot. We had a perfect weather : sunny and no wind. As we are visiting the Catlins during wibter, we were alone at the lighthouse and that is cool. We saw a lot of seagulls and fur seals and maybe several albatros.

We are on our long-awaited journey around the world in 99 days. Second try after canceling in 2020.
Our third stop after Los Angeles and Hawaii is New Zealand.

This time was of course used to find some geocaches here.
Today we were searching for the Earthcache **Nugget Point Stratigraphy (Otago)**.

At the given coordinates the needed answers where found quickly and after sending them, ther is a new smile on our geocaching map!

At least we would like to take this opportunity to thank **funkymunkyzone** for the interesting information and for creating this Earthcache!

spent 6 great weeks in New Zealand with my The start was a bit bumpy (Cyclone Gabrielle) but then it got better and better. We travelled to both islands and discovered a lot. We photographed and filmed many beautiful things, but most of it stayed in our hearts.
Almost everywhere we stopped, a cache was already waiting for us. Most of the caches are well maintained and easy to find.

With mostly very nice Cool weather, we saw a lot of this impressive island. In many places, caches were waiting for us, which were sometimes easy and sometimes difficult to find. This cache was also included and was successfully signed

We puzzled a lot in advance and the tours were well prepared Wink
So this box was also well found.

now I have another Smile on my personal cache card.

many thanks to [^] **funkymunkyzone** [^] for the effort and the cache and greetings from Germany

This is one of those bucket list spots I've wanted to visit, so great to have an EC and a few caches nearby to add to the fun. Mrs GF and I enjoyed our visit here, taking in the majestic views and the atmosphere. This has been quite trip, taking a number of the Southland must-visit spots in addition to Nugget Point.

An interesting EC at a great spot, so gets an FP.

What an amazing place. We spent over 2 hours here (watching others come and go quickly), watching the dozens of seals on the Nuggets (how do they get up there) and the hundreds of Cormorants. We arrived in warm sunshine and by the time we left the dark clouds had started to roll in. TFTC.

(Answers sent to CO) What a spectacular place, Mr P and I had perfect weather with little wind. There were seals playing in the water round the nuggets and maybe even a sealion (or a vey large seal). Thanks for bringing us here (FP)

Logging in anticipation - found on a weekend away with Hevic. While I was gathering information and photos, Hevic was taking photos of the half-dozen seals sunning themselves on the rock. This is about the third time we've been here, and the first time we've been able to do this cache - thank you much for giving us another good reason to be here. Cheers!

Found with StreetWalkerNZ as we travel from Dunedin to Invercargill.
We saw the black clouds looming in the south as we parked in the parking area, so packed our rain jackets and hoped that we would get back to the car before the rain fell. No such luck Sad.
Despite the weather, enjoyed learning about Nugget Point stratigraphy. Logged with permission. TFTC.

#10,388. Decided to walk out to Nugget Point to take in the scenery. I have been here before but probably 30 years ago. Its quite a dramatic coastline and made more so today by severe galeforce southerly winds that made it hard to cross the isthmus. Had to take your hat off or lose it forever. I collected the information requested by the CO and have emailed it through. I had never noticed the stratigraphy at this site previously. Its very dramatic. You have to wonder how stable the rock is under the lighthouse once you see all those shattered layers of rock. Enjoyed looking out at the seabirds on the rocks but impossible to count with watering eyes and being thrashed around by the wind. Will upload some images. Thanks FMZ for setting up this earthcache.

Went to the lighthouse at dawn hoping to get sunrise photos but only get a slither of orangevthriugh the clouds on the horizon. Saw seal pups in the nursery pools and adults swimming out to sea plus nesting spoonbills and studied the rocks of this beautifully rugged coastline. Sent answers to CO. TFTC Funkymonkeyzone. Found the lighthouse no problem and really enjoyed the walk as it was a lovely winters day. I struggled to answer the questions though. TFTC

Found this one on a south of the South Island trip with 7 muggle friends. We had a great time together and I managed to pick up quite a few caches down the coast and on Stewart island. I took heaps of photos here to study them at home later and work out the answers which I have sent off to the co. A beautiful spot and interesting geography/geology. TFTC

I'm on holiday and enjoying exploring the South and finding lots of caches. I met two fellow geocaches coming up to the lighthouse and enjoyed finding a couple of caches with them here. This is such a magical spot with the lighthouse and the nuggets, thanks for bringing me out here with this cache!

15-Apr-21
This is one of those places I've always want to come to. The images in Airport Lounges and in tourist brochures have fuelled the imagination over the years as to what the place is really like. Today I'm finally here, and I'm not disappointed. Such a magic place. My wife and I both enjoyed our time here immensely. It was pretty late in the day by the time we got here, and we had a fairly long drive back to Invercargill ahead of us, but we lingered, soaking in the surroundings and the atmosphere. The Earth Cache was an additional bonus. Cheers and TFTC and a F.P for lots of reasons.

I write "WRITE NOTE" because it is a time when we can't go on a long adventure, so I travel in the memories of my visits to New Zeusemad. Of this adventure in New Zealand, I only stretch Travel Bug. Writing "FOUND IT" is probably not right anymore, it wasn't today, but I was here before. And unfortunately I won't get here again.

I am sending a beautiful greeting from the Czech Republic. Smile

Answers sent to CO. Some new geology terms learned here today! As I had my phone sitting on the rock layers trying to measure the dip with a level app, a younger girl walked past and asked if I was measuring the strike and dip. I was quite surprised at the chances of someone knowing what I was doing - maybe she was a geology uni student..!
Enjoyed the practical data collection and trying to make sense of it - pretty mind bending how the earth can change like this over so long a time. Thanks!

Yes it was 'To the lighthouse' as there was a school group I passed just back there. Quite windy here today so getting a photo was near impossible with my phone with trying to hold my trusty notebook in one hand and trying to keep my phone case out of the road and push the button required an extra hand today. I love earth caches and this one was something aI have not come across before so lots of stuff to try and take in. Thanks so much for your info on the cache page and bringing me to this awesome place. Fave from me. Cheers.

Tuesday 10 November. We are camped out in Owaka. Its exploring Nugget Point, Kaka Point and up towards Balclutha today. Then Moving Zara along to Balclutha later today. Lets move!

Toby, Zara and I are on a 3 week geo adventure of Cromwell, Southland, Catlins, Balclutha with a day in Dunedin and quick stop in Timaru. With Lenny, my trusty navigator and TBD my companion/mascot. we managed to visit lots of green boxes, now happy faces with the odd sad one. Did some LABs , earth caches, virtuals and wherigos, all chucked into the mix to rack up 500 odd caches. Lots of kilometers, lots of exploring and lots of fun. Thanks to all COs for our wonderful experience.

Lovely day out at the nuggets. First time I have been there. The strata of the nuggets totally different to those at Jack's blow hole just down the coast.

20-Aug-20
Day 13 of my 2020 NZE (New Zealand Experience).
(My apologies for the delayed logging but I'm in catch-up mode)

Seeing as I can't be in America right now, I'm touring around the South Island instead. During my time here I am aiming to find as many of the TMGT caches as I can (preferably all 41) and also as many Virtuals, Earthcaches and Letterbox Hybrids as possible, plus any Trads or others that will fill a hole in my D/T grid, my Jasmer grid, or else the last 3 remaining Hidden Dates on that grid.

I woke up this morning having spent the night beside a lovely beach near Heywards Point on the outskirts of Dunedin. Today's plan was to drive from Dunedin down to the Catlins, although I had no real idea of how far I'd get today. I have been so lucky to have dry conditions my whole trip so far, with the sun really putting in an effort to convince me it wasn't winter!

I had never been through the Catlins before, and had heard lots of good things about this area so wanted to see it for myself. I had stopped in at the i-site at Balclutha to get some general information on what there was to see and do here, and had been advised that Nugget Point was an excellent place to visit, so here I was.

They were right. In spite of the drizzly weather and the failing light levels towards the end of the day, I was really enjoying my time here. These are the kind of Earthcaches I really enjoy doing. There was no-one else around to bother me as I conducted my research and took photos, so I could just marvel at some of the topography to be seen here.

Answers sent to the CO, hopefully all good.
Thanks for setting up this Earthcache, definitely gets a FP from me.

Merlot, Mr Pazza and I took a lovely walk out here and it really blew the cobwebs out my ears. Nice to get out amongst nature while we tried to ignore what was going on all around the country. We were glad to have binoculars with us for seal spotting because they blended in well with the rocks otherwise. Tftec FMZ

20-Mar-20
I headed south with Pazza 2 with the intentions of spending time on Stewart Island preceded by a few days in the Catlins little knowing the whole country would be in lockdown a week later. This lighthouse was on our must visit list and so in a blustery day we made the walk out here and spent quite some time pondering the stratigraphy before continuing on to check out the nuggets. The binoculars showed us just how high some of those seas could climb. Answers sent in by Pazza on our behalf

On our way from Dunedin to Curio Bay we spent some time to visit the lighthouse at Nugget Point. It was a sunny day, but a bit fresh and windy - but we enjoyed the little walk.

Now we know where the name Nugget Point comes from. No gold was found here, but interesting stone formations.

We are not sure if we got all the answers right, answers were sent via Message Center.

Thank you for the challenging Earthcache!

This day Nugget point was one of the prioritized stops on our way from Dunedin to Catlins. A very nice walk out to the lighthouse and after the stop here just a few minutes drive we had the luck to se the yellow eyed Penguin.

Some interesting "stripes" in the ground here, thanks for pointing out! Answers sent to CO.

Finally our trip to New Zealand is real! We started with half a day in Singapore and then we continued to New Zealand before finalizing the trip with 2 days in Sydney.

Thanks a lot for the cache - Greetings from Sweden!

Vacations 2019 - Road trip trough New Zealand
With Geoesposa, this was my 50th anniversary. 16 days, 4200Kms and a few hundreds smilles after, i was sure i saw nothing....

I liked everything, the friendly and civilized people, the way the country works, the roads and especially the natural beauty of New Zealand.
I fell in love....
I decided to go back in 5 years, I easily see myself living my last days somewhere lost in any stunning scenery of this wonderful country.

With the itinerary studied at home, the caches were the ones that were in the chosen places, and a few used to stretch the legs. It was decidedly not the most important on this trip. Of all the visited, only half a dozen did not appear, all being in good health except two or three.

I will use this generic log, not for disrespect of the owners, but due to the amount of caches visited. Here the majority of caches serve to show something beautiful (as it should be), not giving importance to the container.

My thanks to all the ownwers who, allied to the natural beauty of the country, have made this vacation unforgettable.

Day 2/4 of non-stop rain. Our visit to Nugget Point was a wet one. Fortunately though, the rain was not as strong as it could have been and we were able to take the time to solve this Earth Cache. We had some difficulties in the beginning, but managed to understand the different Stratigraphy definitions that we needed. Thank you for this interessing Geology Lesson!

Found whilst on our holiday to Australia & New Zealand.

Lovely day spent walking to and from the nuggets, taking in the views and looking at the wildlife. We found all of the other caches in the area and planned to answer the questions to this one when we got back home to the UK. So we took some photos and gathered as much information as we could before we left.

Time marches on (2 months in this case) and life gets in the way. However, we finally got around to answering the questions and emailing the CO before logging this find. We learnt a lot about the stratigraphy and in particular the basics of dip and strike which was interesting. It was also a chance to reminisce, look at our holiday photos and talk about going back one day.

A beautiful part of the world and a cracking EarthCache to boot.

Made an attempt earlier in the day but driven back by rain. Skies cleared after lunch so visited the lighthouse and completed the requirements and send these to CO. Spectacular views. TFTC

After a dinner we would like to see the sunset. Wow, what nice place! A wonderful lighthouse. A lot people with cameras were there too. Therefore we had a lot of time to collect the necessary information. Thanks for showing this place!

During our holiday in New Zealand we have visited both the North and the South Island. We saw a lot of highlights of this beautiful country, but there is so much more to see. So many highlights, so many caches! The geocaches showed us a lot of special and interesting places. Sometimes a quick find, sometimes we had to search longer. A few DNF's, but that doesn't matter. We loved New Zealand and we hope to come back some day!

Today we have found the cache "Nugget Point Stratigraphy (Otago)". Thanks for the lesson!

funkymunkyzone, thanks for creating and maintaining this cache!

Cache information and requirements could not be shown on cgeo for some unknown reason. Could not try on another device as I am on holiday. Proof in the form of a selfie is attached.
