The Bird (and nest) has flown. Anyone looking for this cache will be stumped.

29-Jun-15
Unfortunately the tree the cache was in was cut down, the cache can not be moved because the tree next to where it was is far harder to climb, its sad to see the cache go as I enjoyed reading everyone's storys of finding the cache Smile

had to send the kids up!

16-May-15
Sent my 12year old up to retrieve that one!

That was scary!

But seeing I am the cache owner's aged uncle, I felt some pressure to perform. Shed my shoes and socks halfway up. The ladies in the house opposite were impressed (or perhaps alarmed). Clinging to the limb like a limpet mine, I scrawled my name on the first scrap of paper that my sweaty and shaking fingers could grasp. Sliding back down was almost as bad as getting up there, and it's a long time since I've felt so happy to be back on terra firm again.

Giving a favorite point, but I'm not really sure why! (Well, I would if I could.)

Wow what a climb. This was pretty scary, and I was watching from below. tmann made quick work of it but that would have to be one of the scariest climbs yet!

Easy find, easy climb up, trickiest log sign yet. Even had a few muggles pass underneath while I was up there, luckily they had headphones in and didn't see or hear me. TFTC.

Been sizing this up for a while, but daunted by the access and T5 status, finally persuaded a new gut from the office, who would make a great geocacher that it was a good idea to go climb a tree for the boss. So in quick order and with support from muggles across the road its Mission accomplished TFTC! Smile Blenheim Bear

With the aid of my two Grand daughters finally got this one. An elderly man form next door came out and asked what we were doing, Nana said we where play a children's hide and seek game. He thought we were going to cut the tree down and asked if could "we leave that one and cut the one down on his place."

Had business at both ends of the Island and managed a transition day inbetween to find my first ever caches in Taranaki - glad I did. Thanks for putting these out and bringing me to this neck of the woods.

Out and about caching with davycrockpot in Taranaki today. I stood as a safety watch while davycrockpot did the climbing...the nosy neighbour came out took photos and asked about our treasure hunt while davy reached the target and signed the log...obviously the neighbour is part of the challenge of this one. Tftc

Found with Geco72 on the return trip to New Plymouth airport. A bit of a challenge, but where else would you expect to find a cache called the birds nest!? Aforementioned nosey neighbour busted us, but we were successful in our quest.

Fun hide but sadly got caught by neighbour. Not in a position that could look natural. Definitely need cover of darkness or closed curtains!
Tftc.

Found it, waited for dog walker and traffic to pass and went to send my cache retrieval monkey up the tree. Mother of CRM said he couldn't go with his broken arm so will be back to sign the log.

20-Jul-14
Easy find as the evening light was fading. Log a bit scrunched up, probably because it is a bit tricky to get out.

yay- my 2nd cache as a 8 year old climbing trees is awesome - this is a big one.

I managed to spot the cache before my ascent and as I waited for a few cars to pass a Fire Truck passed by. Oh, how cool would it be for those guys to lend me there ladder I thought.

Once the coast was clear I jumped up on the first level and noticed the tree was quite slippery - it had been raining earlier today. The thought of 'let's just leave it' crossed my mind but a closer inspection revealed I was able to get some grip with my hiking boots so 'game on'.

A couple of more hops and the cache was in reach - gee that wasn't so bad. It was bizarre to have a car or two whiz by right underneath me as I signed the cache.

OK getting up is always the easy part, do I need the fire truck to return to get me down!? After a couple of 'nope, that way ain't going to work' moments I successfully navigated my way down. I gave the thumbs up to anyone who was watching me in the nearby house (I couldn't tell if anyone was in the house or not) and off I went with my first terrain rating of 5 in the bag.

Had to send my daughter up after it

Wow, absolutely no way you could be totally "discreet" here. Such a busy road.
The youngest Rattll volunteered - dad did say he'd go, but junior was already half way up, & he didn't sound that convincing anyway. Smile
Then the neighbour came out & started trimming the grass edges - to late, we were already committed! He did look over now and again - not sure what he was thinking we were up too, but he turned his back to us & carried on with his work.
Thanks for the adventure, & the cache.

Well this was just great to get as. I need a 5 difficulty!!!!!! I did have some very friendly and helpful help from a young agile local....muchly appreciated......thanks you so much Banjoboy's mate!

Many thanks

Headed south with Zorgon for a bit of a trip through some backroads to find caches some distance from the next closest cache for a stage of the GCLS Challenge. After a couple of hours sleep it is surprising just how good the caching body can feel.

Didn't do so well on this one and had to send Zorgon to collect and sign the log

#2700.
#142 in NZ.

I just love climbing trees, something that is not one of Lady Thrips' favorite pastimes, so naturally I volunteered after we spotted the container. Fortunately it was a quiet day and I quickly monkeyed up the tree, completed the admin, and scaled down again. Thanks for a very fun cache!

A big thank you to all the geocache owners for being our “tour guides” in New Zealand while we are on our short holiday visit to this extraordinarily beautiful country! We traveled the North Island in our little camper van and we came across minimal damaged caches and we only had very few DNF’s.

"Groete" all the way from South Africa!

I enjoy climbing trees as much as the next guy but this one was a bit too much for me today. Perhaps next time I'm up... or else I'll just get as far as I did this time and chicken out again before one day getting it... or chickening out a few more times.

When I told my wife that there was a cache up a tree she got all excited and wanted to do the honours and retrieve it. When we got to ground zero, however, a little bit of doubt crept in. Not one to back down from a challenge, she made a start and was soon stuck out on a limb with all suitable hand holds just out of reach. It was about this time she started saying things like "have you got a ladder on you?" and "call the fire brigade."

Repeating the mantra "I'm stuck now" she slowly wriggled up the final branch until the cache was at her fingertips, then wiggled a bit more until she got it. The view from the ground was hilarious. A passing cyclist nearly ran into the gutter while craning his neck to see what was happening, while I stood at the bottom of the tree calling "here, kitty kitty."

Hanging an arm down either side of the branch, she signed the log and reassembled it, but re-hooking it in its position she managed to get bark in her eyes and was blinded for a few minutes. After recovering she slid down the branch and managed to get her left leg jammed in the fork. As she was completely unable to move either forwards or backwards, it was up to me to mount a rescue. I'm not built for tree climbing, but I managed to get to the first level, where I grabbed her foot and pushed her up until she was able to swing the other leg over, then grabbed both feet and dragged her down the branch and then out of the tree.

I'm giving this a favourite point for the sheer entertainment value. Thanks for the cache.

Still enjoy climbing trees, even at my age... So this was good fun... TFTC Smile

Ages since I've climbed trees. Once up there several locals came out to watch. One asked if it was a tree climbing contest? I said it was and did she want to join us. We got a definite NO!
Great cache.
