Nice!

31-Oct-24
Added a pill bottle with extra log

26-Oct-24
It took me a while to find it because my phone just but the coordinates 30m away. I was about to give up. On my way down, I recognized the spot with the help of the picture. Yay!The log book is damp again even though it's in both capsules. I tried to screw the lid pretty tight to avoid more moisture getting in.TFTC!

24-Jul-24
Up north with Vistra for a few days visiting family and doing some caching. Today's tramp took us up Manaia. A bit windy at the very top, but thankfully, the wind kept the showers at bay. Thanks for adding the spoiler photo, as this helped us find the cache without problem. Tftc

11-Jul-24
Wow that was a hard one. I used the photo but it wasnt until I read the description carefully that I realised that I didnt need to go off the track yes the coordinates are out but they often are in the bushI added some waterproof paper - RITR - so that names can be added to it. Thanks for putting a cache up here

20-Jun-24
Log is wet and needs replacing. Please consider checking the coordinates as they seem to be about 20m out. Also adding some hints that give a general location would help those that may not have data, e.g that it's (from memory) opposite an overhang rather than a vertical face, and below the steps.

23-May-24
This was more than a little frustrating. The hint gives no indication as to the general location, and it would be almost impossible to find without the spoiler photo. Thankfully at least there was reception here so I could check it. They spoiler photo shows the location about 20 metres below where I zeroed. But even then there are quite a few places it could be. It turned out we were looking in holes that were way too deep, and the actual one is quite small. Definitely very wet and needs a new log. TFTC.

30-Apr-24
Found it! But cache is wet... Needs new log

30-Apr-24

A late afternoon walk up Mt Manaia with rattll. Having more or less recovered from the climb, this cache was rather tricky to find, particularly as the GPS wasn't settling. Fortunately, we were able to glean some information from previous logs that allowed us to narrow it down. Rattll was the one that made the find. The log was absolutely sodden, such that I had difficulty peeling it apart. Took a photo instead. Returned as found. Tftc!

13-Feb-24
Having dnf'd this cache a year or so ago, I'm back today with matagouri to have another go..As with last time, I was going backwards and forwards trying to get the gps to settle. After a bit of searching, matagouri pointed out the spoiler image which we managed to find. The cache was in hand soon after that. My gps still said over 20mts away.It was great to be doing this track again. Thanks for putting this cache here

29-Jan-24
Lovely walk, pretty easy find.

06-Jan-24
Got it! The GPS was showing more than 10m away, so I was only able to find it with the image in the clue.Wasn't able to sign it as the log book was soaked (and I broke my pen ).TFTC!

05-Jan-24
Found it thanx to the tip, GPS was way off. Unfortunately the log roll was soaked so could not sign and did not have a replacement on me

30-Dec-23
A very natural hiding spot that I only found using the spoiler. My partner was leaning on the tree!

18-Dec-23
Had to use the spoiler photo! cute hide. Log is sodden sadly unsignable. Needs some TLC Thanks for hiding

16-Dec-23
A beautiful day to explore. So many spectacular views. TFTC Log too wet to write on

22-Oct-23

04-Oct-23
Very hard but managed

19-Jul-23
Had to use the spoiler photo for a clue.
We were fortunate to have an amazing day for this walk.

Day 4 of our Northland road trip, and the main focus today is Mt Manaia. A cache on the way in, and some others later in the day in town.
Found this on the way down after I figured out I had gone a bit off piste on the way up looking for this. Spoiler photo helped a lot, so on the way down we waited out a couple of muggles before signing.
Again RG72 spotted the hide first.
Nice hide, TFTC Hawkins1908.

20-Sep-22
I only had time for a quick look because of muggles. No luck though

13-Aug-22
Don't know why I didn't find this when I was last here in 2015!
Anyway it was a quick find today....all safe in here !
Mrs Jag helped as she was ahead of me and had found it on another occasion!

A few weeks ago I asked rustynz where she wanted to have her 8000th milestone cache to land on. I knew it was coming up soon. She suggested among other caches Mnt Manaia in Whangarei. My ears pricked up… yes! That’s where we should go. Mnt Manaia was supposed to be the place my 4000th cache was meant to be back in 2016. But on the day, the track was under maintenance and so we had to plan somewhere else.

So once that plan was on the go, the ball really started rolling, supernanny suggested a weekend away there too, so I asked Nicholas (Riser5 master of the CITO) if he wanted to organise a CITO for us and we’d come up from Auckland to Whangarei and join him. Once he had a definite date, I booked myself in for 2 nights.

Me and rusty tried to find this on our way up, somehow I didn't read the bit about staying on the track, so I was searching in Never-Never land. So we carried on to the virtual intending to have another search for this, rusty brought up a foto and she found the hide just like that!

Our westie buddies supernanny and Mrs Jag50 have fled the scene a little while ago, we will see them again at rusty's event. So now it's time to head back down out of this cold wind.

13-Aug-22
The phone bounced all over the place, and had us searching in the wrong place Big Grin

After awhile suggested to gorby we should go to the top, and that is what we did, got to take in the views and take some pictures and do the virtual.

On the way down, gorby took off to the side, but I did some more digging, spotted the image, and decided I needed to match up the rocks. So backtracing along the main path, I soon came upon the pictures location. As to the cache spotted it straight away. So up the steps I went, called out to gorby I had found it, and off we went to retrieve the cache and sign the log.

Thanks Hawkins1908 for the hide, and the adventure.

Looked in alot of wrong places before stepping back and thinking about it. TFTC

27-Feb-22
wow what a find GPS way off 20m off

27-Feb-22
Cool find

31-Jan-22
Yeah, GPS was off as others have mentioned but personally I found that the even the general zone was off by about 10-15m for both me and my partner. Clever little hide. TFTC

03-Sep-21
The last time I came up here it was dark by the time I got to the top, well at least that was my excuse then, but certainly not today, actually not a difficult find with the hint and picture, but still a very cool hide and really enjoyed the view from the top, TFTC

14-Jul-21
Very clever! Peter Rabbit wasn’t home but we enjoyed finding this cache anyway, good waterproof container but unfortunately we forgot a pen so couldn’t mark log book!!

30-May-21
Easier to find on the way back from the top

22-May-21
The weather was grey and overcast with rain threatening, so we made an early start to climb Mount Mania. A very quick find here with the hint. No sign of Peter Rabbit today though. TFTC

01-May-21
Fun Find. The photo hint really helped

14-Feb-21
On our way from Mangawhai Heads to Paihia. We were supposed to be going to Tutukaka but the weather is about to turn pear shaped so we decided to hunker down for three days in Paihia to ride the storm out.
Making a pilgrimage up Mt Manaia to fill a missing month in our Jasmer.
Nearly at the top. Last cache and it took a bit of finding. Glad to have the spoiler photo. Couldn’t have found it without it. Interesting Boulder formations around here and then there was the view from the top. Magnificent. TFTC

24-Jan-21
This took us such a long time to find!! It was super cool and nature’s door was awesome!! Such a lit find

22-Dec-20
Today we went up mount Manaia. We went straight up and did geocaching on the way back. Both the logbook and container are in good condition. Easy find using the spoiler picture.

22-Oct-20
Thanks great view from up here. On the way down there were a group of children with a few adults climbing the hill. Good on them they were heading to the top.
Nice weather today so great views.

22-Oct-20
Definitely worth the walk. Awesome views today.
TFTC. One every 200 m or so made for an excellent break on a lovely warm afternoon.
Main reason for a walk was to grab the oldie up here but also enjoyed the exercise.

21-Aug-20
We decided on a walk up Mania to get the caches. Have not been up this way for awhile. Before they put in the boardwalk. Great to see the Kauri, and a great bit of exercise.
Didn't find it on the way up. Read the activity and found the gps was a bit out which I would agree with and we also used the spoiler pic. TFTC

30-Jun-20
Found with the help of spoiler photo, coordinates were about 10m out. Cool spot, TFTC Smile

30-Jun-20
TFTC!

19-Feb-20
On our way down we decided to try the cache, was not disappointed by the first one, even if the GPS was not helping a lot !

18-Feb-20
This one would have been a real problem without the spoiler photo to narrow things down as the coordinates are about 30 metres out. Like others before me, I hunted without success on the way up, then thought about it a bit more while admiring the view from the platform at the top. After looking at what others had done I downloaded the photo on my phone, followed the example, and soon got a good match on the opposite side of the track from where I was expecting. Then a quick find. Signed log, TFTC.

15-Feb-20
Nice little hiding spot

09-Feb-20
What an excellent hide this is. We couldn’t match up the spoiler picture with any of the territory on the way up, so we went to the top, took the photographs, and on the way back down we were able to match up the terrain with the spoiler. A short search and the cache was in hand.

08-Feb-20
Yay! Thanks to the spoiler we found it ON THE DESCENT!!! A good little easy to access cache. TFTC

08-Jan-20
Walked past it on the way up, but after seeing the amazing views on top, stopped by to nab this one on the descent (needed the picture hint though as it was hard to pinpoint the exact location). Thanks!

05-Jan-20
Wow what a spot. Rather windy at the top. Gusta blowing you around a bit. Had to keep your balance. Well worth the effort. Thanks to spoiler pic cache was found. Thanks for your placements. Tftc

03-Jan-20
Puffed our way to the top. Unable to even search for other caches on the trail due to muggles.

We used the spoiler here to make a quick grab in between people traffic.

Went out for a hike up Mt Manaia late this afternoon with my son to work off the Christmas dinners and the excessive eating that occurs at this time of the year. Even at 5.00p.m. it was still hot during the climb so we were glad to have the couple of canteens of water with us.

Last cache before the top of Mt Manaia. The GPS had not been giving accurate directions to any of the caches on this hike so we were relying on the hints to locate the caches with mixed success. For this one we had to download the spoiler photo (thanks cache owner) and my son Jared remembered the cut log so he quickly found the "rabbit hole" and the cache was in hand.

13-Oct-19
Stunner

27-Jun-19
Had a good look on the way up, with no luck.
Oman at tho top I studied the photo of an earlier find and used a feature in that to make a quick find on the way down.

16-Jun-19
Awesome find! The view at the top was well worth it. Also a huge thanks to the person who left the croc lollies... definitely in need of that sugar fix

02-Jun-19
I wish we'd read the part of the description that said not to leave the path. We spent far too long in the area gps sent us instead of studying the spoiler photo. Got there in the end. Stunning views here. Tftc

21-Apr-19
Found while walking the Mount Manaia track this morning. The trail was getting a lot busier by the time I got to this part of it. I had to keep stopping my search as people passed and couldn't find the cache on the way up.
After visiting the top lookout, I downloaded the cache photo to help my search on the way down, and this time found the cache Smile
I definitely needed the photo because I was way out with the GPS! Thanks for the cache. Great walk and incredible views!

30-Mar-19
GPS was a little off for us but the hint to go 10 m down the track really helped. The picture supposedly taken from the cache site was very unhelpful but the spoiler picture left by the setter took us straight to it. A very cute home for this cache!

08-Mar-19
Skipped this one to head to the top first and enjoy the stunning view. Priceless! On the way back down my phones GPS was jumping around a bit but managed to find it with the help of a photo from a previous log.

Amazing hike and great cache series! Thanks!

29-Jan-19
Searched carefully in the rabbit's hole, dnf...

04-Jan-19
We tried to find this on our way up with little success. By that stage we were not keen to stop for too long as we knew our final goal was in sight. After some time catching our breath at the top and taking a heap of photos we continued our search on the way down. We had to extend our search area quite a bit as the phones were jumping around but the hint photo helped. Once we spotted the photo location the cache was quickly found. Found with darthcacher1 and purply.

02-Jan-19
Photo helped! But GPS wasn’t to far off. Grabbing it in between the muggles more of a challenge! TFTC

30-Dec-18
Hint was precisely, found it easily even in beginning darkness.
TFTC!
Jolo.

30-Dec-18
Nice one.
This is definitely one of the best views I ever had in my life.
Thanks for hiding.

21-Dec-18
Awesome way to finish up this search. Thank you for making this beautiful hike that much more fun! Cheers from Team Geo-Blend!

01-Dec-18
The weather was still not ideal, but we decided that as we are not made of sugar, we will last the trip! The main aim was Mt Manaia for the day. We set of nice and early, and maybe we should have waited until the afternoon when the clouds mostly lifted!! Whne we were at the top, it was like staring into spilt milk... Great place to visit in any case! TFTC!!

13-Oct-18
TFTC We made it to the top. Pretty cool view. We located this on our way back down.

30-Sep-18
We found this Cache on our way back to the car park after spending some time at the top of Mt. Manaia.

15-Sep-18
Found this after a little looking as the GPS was out a bit. Great walk to the top with the kids. TFTC.

19-Jul-18
GPS was a bit off,, those cheap phones, Damm.. But found it

14-Jul-18

12-Jul-18
Nice cache but about 14 meters off
- photo saved the day!!

01-May-18
Found in our way back down. GPS is quite a bit off but found anyway. Great day and only a few muggles. But man is it windy up there. TFTC

08-Apr-18
Not found, too bad

31-Mar-18
After attending the Onerahi foreshore CITO, this morning and picking up the last of the OC caches as well afterward, I headed out to Manaia, to try and clear up the remaining green dots on my map here.

The carpark was absolutely full and there were even other cars parked on the roadside, so I wondered if I might have a problem with muggles on the track. There were certainly lots met who were heading back down, but luckily none at GZ when I got there. With the good hint, cache was quickly located, log signed and returned as found, before the next lot of muggles arrived, heading downward. TFTC

24-Feb-18
Found during the hike to the top.
Thanks for the cache,
Kiki + Ole

23-Dec-17
Tftc!

19-Dec-17
A long hard walk but well worth all the effort. I'm glad there were some caches for me to find along the way - I felt more like Mrs Tiggy-Winkle collecting washing than Peter Rabbit who kept losing things wherever he went. The cache was an easy find and one could really imagine Peter living here. Thanks for the cache Smile

18-Dec-17
We found this cache on our climb to Mt Manaia, which was quite a nice workout!
Thanks so much for hiding it!

11-Dec-17
I'm travelling around NZ for 7 weeks, using geocaching as my travel-planner. I was so lucky to be offered to stay overnight with thegreatauk and his mom, and that also meant that I could go crazy geocaching with thegreatauk. We had a big day today, we left the house at 6.45am and came back 10.45pm. We started off with the Tiger-caches, then we walked up to Mt Manaia and finished off with the SpotX. We had plans to go to Peach Cove and Eagle Rock as well, but we didn't have the time (or energy) for that. A great day with lots of beautiful scenery and caches.

About this cache:
Nice little hiding-hole for this one. It didn't take us long to find it. Tftc

11-Dec-17
Out for a full days geocaching in the heads trying to get as many caches as possible leaving early coming back late but having a great day out doing urquharts bay/Smugglers cove and Mt Manaia was great. A few DNF's but mainly finding the caches. Thanks to all the cache owners for placing caches to find. Fortunately a quick find after lining up with the hint photo and spotting something suspect. Thanks for the cache with a view.

03-Dec-17
Spent quite some time looking on way up but quick find on way down. Used spoiler image.

16-Nov-17
Wahooooo! Found it! Happy hunting all! TFTC Smile

06-Aug-17
Visited site today, added new toys, a fresh new log, checked the co-ords and added extra hints and photos to page, as the area can sometimes bounce you around.

Co-ords can bounce, try 10 meters down the path, but you do not need to leave the path. Picture is a little helping hand.

16-Apr-17
Stopped by this cache today and as you haven't done anything with it yet,
Have moved it to a new location.
It is right on the path. Hidden in a hollow beneath a small tree and next to a rock.
Cache is also damp. Log is in a pill container so hopefully still dry.

Gps said 10m behind so up I clambered and was soon rewarded with the cache. Some muggles resting close by thought I was mad. Thanks for bringing us here Hawkins1908.

01-Feb-17
Enjoying the trek to the top ....this is sneaky we off shoot and after a short climb had the cache in hand ...it's in good condition ...thanks for the placement and all round great cache Hawkins1908

Had fun finding this one

27-Jan-17
Had fun finding this one

21-Jan-17
GPS took me to a cliff edge and hard to get reading in the bush

19-Dec-16
#654 Found on an excursion to to the top. DNF avenged (although I didn't log it as I didn't really spend long looking last time). Quick find once I realised that I wasn't on the right level yet. TFTC(with stunning views).

30-Jul-16
Took longer than it should have!!!

11-Jun-16
Once again, thankful to be in company of good sorts & agile ones Wink Love this track! TFTC
