Uplifted the archived cache and used it to replace banjoboy’s muggled cache at Pouakai hut. Watch this space.
Earlier in the week the invite goes out from Phronimos to see if anyone was interested in joining him on a maintenance run up in the ranges. A guided tour to a couple of the higher terrains caches in the area (yay D/T Matrix) and a test of my fitness level for a future exploration of the area, too good to pass up.
The archived cache was still in place at this location so I logged it before its redeployment and replacement. see photo as evidence.
Cheers.

Easy find by other John while with Patandjohn and others of the HVTC group. Views to Holly Hut but no mountain.
Desperately needs maintenance as log book soaked and box not waterproof.

Coordinates out by about 20 metres, but hint was good. Cache is full of water and the log book very soggy.
Thanks for the cache!
Thanks for the cache!
Awesome views, even on a windy, cloudy day. Log book rather wet. Maybe needs replacement bag?
Found on our way to the tarn. Lid was off and filled with water. Log unsignable. I left it on rock to dry out for an hour and was a little better when I put it all back in place. TFTC
I was here but I went "just" around the cache ...
I'm sad because this cache was not saved in my PQ,
prepared for travel on the North Island NZ ...
Nice place, challenging journey ... it's far from my home in Czechia.

Found during a two day tramp of the Pouakai circuit. Eight of us, Thursday trampers from the Manawatu Tramping and Skiing Club. The coordinates took me over 20m away from the cache, then I used the hint for a quick find. The logbook is very wet. Thanks Callanmca.
Chur bey, cloudy day to do the pouaki circuit, geocaching on the way. First cache in a while, tftc.
This is one of my favourite spots and I come here a couple of times a year. It's great that there's cache here, thanks.
Cloudy, windy, good find but log book soaking wet and ruined ...Also, I agree, coordinate are out by a lot so had to use hint
Down in the 'Naki for a few days break and managed to do a spot of caching. Had a great walk up to the hut, and then decided to walk up here for the cache. What a great spot, TFTC
Lunch time when I get to the hut so grabbed this on the way down. Coordinates seem out so hint needed. Nearly busted by a power walker, she wasn't very friendly when I tried to talk to her.
View superb today from the plateau and the mountain looks impressive across the Ahukawakawa wetlands. We stayed the night in Mangorei Hut and popped up here first thing. A great spot for a cache and worth a fav point from me. TFTC!
(1804) Out with my mates walking the Pouakai circuit and collecting some caches along the way. Thanks for placing the caches around this track.
The hint is more accurate than the gps reading. Stunning spot to watch the ever changing views of Mt Taranaki.
A find with sweet views of Taranaki Maunga. Up here for 2 nites with Ozzawazza. Wow!!
Wow! Busy up here. Managed to grab this in a quieter moment. Tftc.
Camped the night at the plateau and were treated with a glorious sunrise/sunset.

Beautiful spot to watch a lovely sunset and the clouds around the mountain top. Thanks very much for this cache.
Our third and last cache today on the first day of Pouakai trek. We are going to stay at Pouakai hut and we are looking forward to it! TFTC
Yesterday we planned a walk Taranakiguy and I. Decided to find some caches nearby. TFTC
31 December 2015 11:46. My phone GPS lied to me here, saying that I needed to go much further from the sign than necessary. TFTC
Checked out on 28km cache placing mission. Everything in order here, although a big wet, ready for Goodbye 2015 New Year's Eve-nt at Pouakai hut.
Think I found the GZ but a bit to much ice and snow for my frozen fingers to locate the cache... Will try another day
Some absolutely beautiful views today, & relatively muggle free on the track too.
No one around here while we were here. Followed the GPS to the wrong place & looked around for a while before resorting to the clue & realising GZ was back where we were. A quick find after that.
Left a pet rock - a cat. TFTC Callanmca

Found with alpenmilch80, KiwiLeon, Paultaps and TucanoVic on a two night hike on Mt Taranaki.
After the hard slog up Henry the walk to this one was heavenly!
Thanks!

Decided with Paultaps, KiwiLeon, TucanoVic and Slieschke to have a go at some geocaches on Mt Taranaki over the long weekend. A three day tramp was planned with two nights in huts.
The first leg started with meeting at the visitor carpark in the early cold morning hours to make our way up to the Pouakai Hut. Fog started already earlier to close in which resulted in a search with limited visibility . TFTC

Wow, the perfect day to be here on a family hike. The mountain was clear and the views were brilliant. Ruapehu could be clearly seen. My GPS was out a wee bit but the clue made it pretty clear where to look. TFTC!
It has been said that "Any bad day's hiking is better than any good day at work", or something like that. Today was a great day in Taranaki, and here I was at work - but everyone else was off doing something better. So at lunchtime I donned my tramping boots and headed up the 'hill' to knock off a few up Pouakai. After the quick grab & sign at the hut it was a short hop up to the plateau and another quick grab & sign. Good hide. Nice spot. TFTC
Stayed at Pouakai Hut for the night. Cloud cleared from Egmont in the evening and we had a fantastic view from this spot.
An easy find if you know where the River Rata rock is
Unfortunately Skully wasn't waiting for us in the cache : /
Anyway, super nice cache in a super awesome location!

One of several found on the Pouakai circuit. A nice easy cache, with a good hint meant it wasn't a problem to find without bringing the GPSr!
We wanted to get our own photo of the tarn reflecting the mountain, but the mountain was covered in cloud and there was too much breeze for a good reflection so all we got was a ripply grey blur. We picked up this cache on the way across though, and dropped off a travel bug. As with everyone else we found the coordinates about 30 metres off but the hint helped.
The walk back down the steps seemed to go on for ever, the rails all became one big blur and our knees and feet almost gave out. Still, we can now say we have done it.
Thanks for the cache, it's a worthwhile trek.

Same comment as Priceless Time re the co-ords. This time a fantastic view of Egmont with no snow to be seen. tftc
Took awhile to find, coards seem to be about 30m out but after going back to hint soon had cache in hand Came up from Pouakai hut and will carry on to trig .Only got fleeting views through cloud.Dropped off keyring.SL TFTC
Well this one certainly made us realize that we are not 21 any longer! Took 2hrs up and 1 1/2 down on a very well maintained track. We have been wanting to do this track for years and your cache was the final push. The cache will be well protected from the winter snows and the views are fantastic. Thanks for bringing us here to a cache that will give you more satisfaction than 20 easy ones. A favorite from us.
