Ah, yes. Earthworks by the railway line. If this cache is still here, it's buried.
If the hint item is near the tracks, then yup its covered in a fair few cubic meters of ballast rock, I need to keep moving now...
I too believe it’s under here This my at be where the train line was blocked with a slip just before Christmas

We believe that the cache is buried under aggregate that a bulldozer has kindly dumped here.

I saw this one straight away. Once again I had to wait for muggles to pass before making the grab. So the log book has been signed and the cache is nicely back in its spot all ready for the next geo-hunter. Thanks heaps for taking the time to set up this cache. I really appreciate your efforts in doing so. TFTC

Nearly reaching the feature of this track that gives it its colloquial name, I stopped again for a breather- not that most of our party were unfit, mind you, but just for common sense. Mental preparation completed we headed off from the cache. TFTC
Found as we headed towards many zigs and zags to take us up. Really impressed with the condition of all the geocaches we found. Mostly all dry and easly signed. TFTC
8th find today of 21 I am hoping to locate. Quick find. Once again phone GPS had me right on to it. TFTC.
#1059. Today I decided to tackle the Paekakariki Escarpment Trail, accompanied by GB Leader and our German wwoofer, Amelie. With my GC App playing up on my phone, and my expertise with Garmin not up to scratch, I was pushing it uphill! GBL came to the party with a short term GC upgrade, and we were away! Having checked the weather forecast, and deciding it was good enough to go, off we set, SuperGold Cards in hand on the Metlink train to Paekak.
Easy enough start, but as the legs got tireder, the route got steeper, and the wind got stronger. We searched for most of the early caches, but by the top, dodging the 54-strong Ngati Toa group who were manfully (& boy-fully and girl-fully!) climbing up with us, we were getting tired, and skipped a few searches.
The two swing bridges were really the highlight, especially the second, given the wind buffeting it about. The downhill second half gave some relief, and it was great to finally reach the end of the Trail. Only seven caches found, a dozen searched for unsuccessfully but a triumph of age over the adversity of Yeetrees’ magnificent job in setting up the challenge. Of course, I’ll be back another day for another go at the rest.
This was #4 of the seven. Found at 11.25. After a string of DNF’s, it was nice to lay my hands on another container. Tftc Yeetrees.

I was asked to join TwigNZ and ThatWeirdGuy on the Te Araroa Paekakariki to Pukerua Bay escarpment walkway today. It was a glorious day with minimal wind and we set off hopeful to find all 32 caches available on the trail.
After driving to Paekakariki then catching the train to Pukerua Bay we headed off on the trail at 9am. I was thankful to find all 32 caches (with help from the team) and finished the walk in 4 hrs 20 minutes. Logs were signed as Team STT (stardust718, TwigNZ, ThatWeirdGuy).
Fortunately I made a very quick find here as the nearby area stinks real bad of a dead animal. Container and contents all in good condition.
Thanks to the CO for this trail and encouraging me to get out and explore more local(ish) trails.

A few weeks ago my boss in Wellington sent out a notice that our Unit was going to do the Paekakariki Escarpment Track as a Team Building exercise. As a keen geocacher I knew the track had a few caches on it but even I was surprised when I saw there were over 30. That made it a must do, but how could I justify the airfares from Blenheim. I know, there is some training that I need to do and the options were to send me to Wellington to do it or send the trainer to Blenheim. Guess what option I chose.
So yesterday morning I flew to Wellington to do the training. I turned up to discover the server was down so sat around chewing the fat with some of the Wellington team. Eventually the IT boffins got the server up and running and being the quick learner that I am, I managed to complete the training before knock off.
That gave me time to do the Rata Street loop track behind Naenae after work. Not ideal tramping around in the wet bush after the recent rain which continued sporadically while I was out there.
Today a group of about twenty five of us of varying ages and fitness meet at Pukerua Bay station and headed north. the trip got off to a bad start with a DNF at the first, and another four since then with three of the last five being DNFs. This one was another QEF as per the hint only one step off the track. It was good not to have to go for a scramble for a change,

Found fairly quickly as I had read the earlier log about something dying nearby? luckily no big odours (suspect toilet stop?)
Retrieved easily, cache is all good, as being up on this level its all safe from sprinkles.
Thanks for the hide Yeetrees, I got ahead of our muggle companions to have them catch up as I am putting the cache back

Luckiky ste spotted thus quickly as it had smelt like something had dies nearby and we didn't want to come across it in the search.
A quick and easy find on a nice walking day. I've been meaning to do this walkway for a while now. Thanks
Today we moved lodging from Lower Hutt to Plimmerton. We cached on the way and did a great walk from Paekakeriki to Pukerua Bay. Signed the cache logs as Ms+Mr KR.
Thanks to all CO's for placing and maintaining their caches. Cheers

Third time on this track but first time looking for caches here!
Had limited time so started at Paekak, walked to the top and came back down the same way. All caches along the way were easy enough finds with good co-ords and hints

A year and a half ago I did the escarpment walk with the family; there were too many people to cache, and the family is too impatient to stop every 161m. I came back today, in the middle of winter and starting early (in the dark at 6am) to avoid as many other walkers as possible. I did the walk out-and-back, doing the caching on the way out; it took 3 and a half hours to get to the rail bridge. The trip back was an hour and a half with no stops, but it did include a detour round the kohekohe loop.
Hmm - not my favourite sort of hiding spot, but luckily it is the only one of its kind here today - TFTC!

Went for a walk from pukarua Bay to paekakariki. Stunning view along the way. Some caches were slightly wet, others more difficult to find. Great walk tftc
Thanks Yeetrees for the cache. This is our find number 766 and we found it at 11:29 AM on 4 February 2018.
Started out on this walk early this morning as we knew it was going to be a scorcher. Beautiful track and wonderful views
Thanks to the two teenagers that were with us for doing a lot of the scrambling up the banks
Really enjoying this trail

On the way north to Palmerston North and Rotorua for Christmas. Walked onto the ferrry, then picked up a car at Upper Hutt from a fellow geocacher (a saving of $240 from not having to carry it on the ferry). Drove to Pukerua Bay and abandoned it there. Now walking to Paekakariki to pick up a train.
Okay, now I am confused. The series from Pukerua Bay definately suggests starting from that end (eg the serialisation of the staircases), and now this cache suggests we start from Paekakariki! There must be a trail half way or so straight down to the road. Yeah, bugger that. I am ignoring the cache title and heading down. It's was a stinking hot day although it has cooled down a bit, and I am not particularly keen on heading back. Well, not yet anyway. And of course, there's more trail in fornt of me!

Wow, the P2P trail. What a day! After parking the car at Paekakariki and walking to the start of the trail we decided to take our time, we took a little too much time though. After starting the trail at roughly 11 am we had finally gotten off of the trail by 5 pm. We had some good luck finding caches but towards the end, I think TwigNZ and I gave up on the last few.

The Paekakariki Escarpment Track had been high on my 'to do' list for quite some time, ever since it opened. Back in July we tackled it for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it, although at the time we did it as part of a group of Inline Hockey kids (and parents) so we didn't attempt to do any Geocaching on that trip, but promised ourselves that we would come back and do it again as a Geo excursion.
So today was that day. Good stable weather meant that there were quite a few people on the track which made for some interesting times when trying to hunt without attracting attention from Muggles, or 'Pineapples' as was our code word for the day lol.
I have to admit, that whilst I figured the trip would take longer than the previous time, I wasn't expecting to take almost 6 hours to complete the trail. We started from the North with a hiss and a roar, hoping to have zero DNF's for the day, but we encountered a few genuine DNF's (as in we genuinely think they are missing) and towards the end we had more and more DNF's simply due to tiredness from the heat and a bit of a loss of enthusiasm, but our thanks go to Yeetrees for setting up all these Caches, even though some of the hints left us thinking “you're kidding right???” But this trail enabled us to fill in a few D/T chart 'dots' too, so thanks again.
I apologise in advance for the generic log, but there was no way I would have been able to write up each Cache as I went along, so am logging them now in bulk (sort of)
Quick and easy find. Signed the log as "T & T" for myself and my son (Thatweirdguy04).

Walking southwards, the day turned out beautiful and sunny. Thanks for the caches, it was a great introduction for two new cachers I was with, and certainly inspired us to keep racing along the trail to the next one.
This series was found and logged over two weekends The first round was over the labour weekend and the second round to weeks later. Some caches were easy finds, others were hidden well and I and JoshThePirate had to search for a while. Thanks for the caches along this nice walk way [^] We search quiet a while and did not find it

This series of caches has been on my hit list for the last few days but because of nasty weather it was put off until today. The idea was to catch a train from Plimmerton, where my caravan is parked, to Paekakariri but the trains weren't running so caught a replacement bus. I had a bit of a walk from the train station, where the bus dropped me off to the start of the track.
Managed to find this one without too much trouble.
Cheers for the cache.

Signs that trackside rocks have been pushed over the bank, towards the trees. Nothing found, despite quite a protracted search.
#9192. After our DNF back in July 2015, returned for another good walk along the Escarpment Track, this time from Paekakariki across to Pauatahanui. It was mostly clear, with just a gentle breeze. On return, met a couple of walkers on their way heading towards Pukerua Bay. The track and GZ were otherwise all quiet during the visit. Relatively quick find. The cache was in excellent condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

Walking from Paekakariki this was our first DNF so spent 10 to 15 minutes searching but with no luck. To find it is a really good reason to walk the track another time. TFTC
Grabbed a few caches while finally getting to walk this track. Thanks for placing.
As reported by others that has been some changes to the location and was not sure where the cache was.
The terrain has change since I came through here in 2015 where there was plenty of evidence of a washout. I spent ages looking for this with no luck and even had two passing muggles join me in the search. This is my only unfound cache on this stretch of the trail.
A straightforward one for us, and the cache name gave us time to prepare for what was ahead! TFTC
A straightforward find here. As we moved on we realised why it was named thus!
Cache was kind of exposed which made it easier than perhaps intended but I could use that kind of find about now. Quite a slip next to GZ (the hillisde, not me).
#3097. I was at the Mana Island photoshoot event this morning and meet up with Chris (Yeetrees) who said he was off to walk this track. He wanted to check up on the caches along here to see if any had been affected by the earthquakes and heavy rain in November. He asked if I wanted to join him. I wasn't sure as I had to have the car back home by 3pm. But Chris thought we would have the walk completed by lunchtime. Well that might have been a bit optimistic. I would allow 4-5 hours one way stopping to find all the caches and then catch the train back to your car. The weather was glorious and sunny today with light winds. Well for us it was down as all the uphill sections of any consequence on this track were behind us now. A lot of earthworks going on here by the creek. Hopefully the cache wont be buried. It is very close to being ploughed under. Signed the dry logbook and replaced the cache as found. Thanks for the cache.
Thought this track was a lot easier than we'd expected it to be. Haha, now the real work begins.....
Another straight forward find.

Thanks for placing the cache. Quick find on a Sunday walk with the junior cachers.
I thought that the cache name had something to do with the cache location but the hint suggested otherwise. I guess it referred to the terrain I was soon to encounter. I found the cache reasonably quickly.
The coordinates for the "End of the line" (which are no longer relevant) are for a site nearer Wanganui than Paekakariki. It looks rather strange on my GSAK map.

A sneaky hide we were having trouble with and my younger sister found it which may have been her highlight of the trip!
