This is my fourth geocaching excursion to **beautiful New Zealand**!
Due to Covid [xx(] I had to wait for 3 long years to again return to my beloved Middle-Earth [B)].
This time it's a road trip enduring for 26 days, covering both North- and South-Island.
Today I had a very sportive and challenging caching-program, in order to fill in some spaces in the matrix .
The Te Araroa-trail P2P had cought my attention - and I chose the North Entrance to start the mission.
Followed the challenging trail until 'Devils Staircase No.#2' was reached - and then made it back to the North-Entrance .
Cool , exhausting [xx(], but brilliant views on the trail - worth the effort [^]!
This geo-treasure contributed to the finds of today. Cool [^]!
Gotsha !
A big thanks [:X] to the owner Yeetrees for placing and maintaining this cache [^] - and best regards from Germany !

The grass around here is pretty blimmin' long which made finding the cache a bit more difficult than perhaps it should have been, still managed to find it though!
A gorgeous hot afternoon out on the Escarpment. Missed this cache on first check, came back after hunting elsewhere for 15 min to find on second check. All good, tftc!
My coordinates were a little off here but after having a quick look at this hinted object then going more thoroughly through others and returning I found it! All good here. Thanks heaps!
Thanks for placing these caches along Te Araroa Yeetrees
We walked the Escarpment in hot calm summer weather and found a few caches too!

Walking the escarpment with Ms M. An almost perfect day. No wind, fabulous views and unusually humid. I tripped over the hint object on my way to one of the visible ones.

Currently we're staying with my brother (tbird53) whilst we're on holiday, and today we walked along this escarpment. I thoroughly enjoyed it and we picked up some of the caches on the way but not all of them. Maybe next time!! TFTC and the series
First of a number of caches located during the escarpment walk today on a superb November day. Already found more than half the caches along here, but this was a good chance to pick up a few more. This wasn’t at the first post I looked at, or the second or third. Found it where I didn’t quite expect it to be! #4353. TFTC.
With a four day old geo-trail in the grass this cache was, literally, a walk in the park Not sure why previous finder along here has not logged online.
Disturbed quite a large spider in finding this one. Found quickly thanks to your hint. So the log book has been signed and the cache is nicely back in its spot all ready for the next geo-hunter. Thanks heaps for taking the time to set up this cache. I really appreciate your efforts in doing so. TFTC
Found during a trip on the P2P track with brucewwnz

Due to a high volume of muggles on the track and the speed of my party, I skipped Zig (GC4YRG7) and instead set the GPS on this cache. Hint was spot on and could've moonlighted for the coordinates! TFTC
Not at the i initially suspected - but when I walked over it I had an inkling that turned into a smiley real quick. TFTC

On our way to the South Island and had some time to spare. Did the walk up to the Look out and enjoyed the spectacular views. Not a cloud in sight. Nice viewing the snow capped mountains on the other side of the straits. Hope to be there tomorrow. Thanks for the hide and a more straight forward hint.
9th find today of 21 I am hoping to locate. A lone muggle arrived just as I was about to start the search, turned out to be a fellow Geocacher from Canberra out for a walk on this great walkway. TFTC.
Found on our TA thru-hike. Took a few minutes to locate, but we didn't mind spending some extra time in this beautiful spot!
#1060. Today I decided to tackle the Paekakariki Escarpment Trail, accompanied by GB Leader and our German wwoofer, Amelie. With my GC App playing up on my phone, and my expertise with Garmin not up to scratch, I was pushing it uphill! GBL came to the party with a short term GC upgrade, and we were away! Having checked the weather forecast, and deciding it was good enough to go, off we set, SuperGold Cards in hand on the Metlink train to Paekak.
Easy enough start, but as the legs got tireder, the route got steeper, and the wind got stronger. We searched for most of the early caches, but by the top, dodging the 54-strong Ngati Toa group who were manfully (& boy-fully and girl-fully!) climbing up with us, we were getting tired, and skipped a few searches.
The two swing bridges were really the highlight, especially the second, given the wind buffeting it about. The downhill second half gave some relief, and it was great to finally reach the end of the Trail. Only seven caches found, a dozen searched for unsuccessfully but a triumph of age over the adversity of Yeetrees’ magnificent job in setting up the challenge. Of course, I’ll be back another day for another go at the rest.
This was #5 of the seven. Found at 11.50pm. No brainer where this one was! Tftc Yeetrees.

I was asked to join TwigNZ and ThatWeirdGuy on the Te Araroa Paekakariki to Pukerua Bay escarpment walkway today. It was a glorious day with minimal wind and we set off hopeful to find all 32 caches available on the trail.
After driving to Paekakariki then catching the train to Pukerua Bay we headed off on the trail at 9am. I was thankful to find all 32 caches (with help from the team) and finished the walk in 4 hrs 20 minutes. Logs were signed as Team STT (stardust718, TwigNZ, ThatWeirdGuy).
We searched and searched for this one 'everywhere' but couldn't find it. As this was, in part, a maintenance run for the CO we phoned to check where it should be. As the cache was not there we replaced it with permission.
Thanks to the CO for this trail and encouraging me to get out and explore more local(ish) trails.

It's been almost 2 years since I last walked this fantastic track. Back then my son and I managed to find 20/32 available caches on this trail, and I've been itching to have another crack at it so I could hopefully find the remaining 12.
August has been a relatively quiet month for me, and so knowing that I needed to find another 16 caches today to achieve a personal goal I set off today, aided and abetted by my son again and by Stardust718. Collectively we call ourselves Team STT, and all of todays logs have been signed as such.
We couldn't have hoped for better weather! Kapiti certainly turned it on for us today. Having previously walked this track twice in the North to South direction, today I wanted to try it the other way around so parked at Paekakariki and took the train down to Pukerua Bay in order to walk back. I anticipated it ought to take us between 4 and 5 hours to complete it, and in the end it took a little over 4 hours 20 minutes.
The last time I was here, we were pretty sure that the cache had gone missing as there was a brand new fence in place of the old one which had been left to rot on the ground. Today we still encountered some of the bits of the old fence whilst we looked for the cache that had been replaced since our last visit. However that appears to have gone south too, so with the CO's permission we have placed a brand new cache in accordance with the published co-ordinates and Hint.
I am just happy to get rid of an ugly Blue Frown from my geocaching map.
Thanks to the CO for setting this series up, and encouraging me to come back to this terrific trail.

Out with TwigNZ and Stardust718 doing maintenance and picking up a few caches. Replaced with permission from Yeetrees. TFTC Yeetrees
There were a number of possible hint items which I checked, but my phone GPS appeared to be pointing at the one definitely over the other side of the fence... so I left it.
Unable to locate this one. There was evidence of recent fence posts having been replaced, maybe it was disturbed. Walking the Te Araroa track with Flowerydaze. Lovely day for this walk with cloudless skies and little wind. Thanks anyway.
Talla64 and I have been looking forward to walking the whole of this track. When the first half of the track opened at the Paekakariki end, some years ago, we were quick to try it out and thoroughly enjoyed the walk to the top (where it ended at the time) and back to Paekakariki.
A year or so later a dozen or so caches appeared, so off we went again to find them all. Since that time the whole track has been finished and we've been waiting to complete this great walk. Today was the day, no wind, very pleasant conditions. Some of the caches were easy finds, some required quite a bit of effort. Some were DNF's and one was a DNA (did not attempt).
Sadly, I think this one might be a goner. We had a good search over an ever widening area but I note there are a few DNFs.
Thanks for placing all these caches Yeetrees, I apologise for the cut and paste logs. We had a great day. Highly recommended.

Another DNF, that's three out of the last four. Like those before me, I had a good look before checking the previous logs to discover other recent DNFs. At least the CO hasn't visited and said it is where it should be. Another cache that made my reporting time for my flight later this afternoon a bit on the tight side.
I tried, I really, really tried. But could not find the cache.
So many posts, and nasty spikey weeds, and no gloves. Lots of lifting, moving of long grass with feed. Diving into bushes, but with sheep watching on, I had to walk away.
The muggle companions long gone. Another DNF on the walkway

A quick and easy find on a nice walking day. I've been meaning to do this walkway for a while now. Very tricky. I thought we were to stay on the track. Thats what the signd say.... Thanks
Today we moved lodging from Lower Hutt to Plimmerton. We cached on the way and did a great walk from Paekakeriki to Pukerua Bay. Signed the cache logs as Ms+Mr KR.
Thanks to all CO's for placing and maintaining their caches. Cheers

Third time on this track but first time looking for caches here!
Had limited time so started at Paekak, walked to the top and came back down the same way. All caches along the way were easy enough finds with good co-ords and hints

Finally, a day where both jgirl1880 and I found ourselves rostered off on a day where the sun was shining and the wind was minimal. A perfect opportunity for us to tick the escarpment track off our "to walk" list. An amazing walk with views better than I had imagined. I can't wait to do this walk again!
Had some time to spare so decided to come and find some caches that I didn't find last time, pleased to find this one easily today, previous logs were helpful
No find here. I notice the CO has since said he'll check the cache, thanks. It may still be there, but withthe ggrass knee high, if it is not at an obvious marker it will be hard to find. Suggest you go for a longer walk, Yeetrees - there are a coupl more that need checking.
Looked all along the fence line and under posts on the ground. No luck.
Wow, the P2P trail. What a day! After parking the car at Paekakariki and walking to the start of the trail we decided to take our time, we took a little too much time though. After starting the trail at roughly 11 am we had finally gotten off of the trail by 5 pm. We had some good luck finding caches but towards the end, I think TwigNZ and I gave up on the last few.
Didn't find this one today, I'll have to come back.

The Paekakariki Escarpment Track had been high on my 'to do' list for quite some time, ever since it opened. Back in July we tackled it for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it, although at the time we did it as part of a group of Inline Hockey kids (and parents) so we didn't attempt to do any Geocaching on that trip, but promised ourselves that we would come back and do it again as a Geo excursion.
So today was that day. Good stable weather meant that there were quite a few people on the track which made for some interesting times when trying to hunt without attracting attention from Muggles, or 'Pineapples' as was our code word for the day lol.
I have to admit, that whilst I figured the trip would take longer than the previous time, I wasn't expecting to take almost 6 hours to complete the trail. We started from the North with a hiss and a roar, hoping to have zero DNF's for the day, but we encountered a few genuine DNF's (as in we genuinely think they are missing) and towards the end we had more and more DNF's simply due to tiredness from the heat and a bit of a loss of enthusiasm, but our thanks go to Yeetrees for setting up all these Caches, even though some of the hints left us thinking “you're kidding right???” But this trail enabled us to fill in a few D/T chart 'dots' too, so thanks again.
I apologise in advance for the generic log, but there was no way I would have been able to write up each Cache as I went along, so am logging them now in bulk (sort of)
No problem finding GZ, but I would suggest that the Cache has been destroyed/removed during the re-fencing work that has clearly happened here recently. I did have a hunt around the undergrowth in case I could stumble upon the discarded Cache, but the undergrowth meant it was like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Posts everywhere, impressive bits of old totara? But a DNF for us - searched hard but to no avail. Thanks for the caches, it was a great introduction for two new cachers I was with, and certainly inspired us to keep racing along the trail to the next one, even when we didn't get them!
Had a good look at all the posts along the fenceline as well as those lying on the ground. All to no avail.
We started on the track from Paekakariki on a sunny, warm, near windless day. Just magic for late May. Clear views of Kapiti Island, the coastal villages and across to the ranges in the South Island. TFTC
Grabbed a few caches while finally getting to walk this track. Thanks for placing.
I will say sorry for the copy and past logs now, we were to leave home at 7.30am so we could get in an early start, turns out we mucked around so much not leaving until close to 8 earning how to use the gps unit (note to self learn and load before a big day caching) stopping for a coffee and muffin and then looking at stuff around town, and trying for a cache up a tree with no luck, so we did it in 5 hours with many stops for the views and chatting to others, and when climbing we were more than happy to wait for people to come down, I personally think it would be easier going in on the north end so you are not doing so many up hill stairs, we loved the walk, as my hiking shoes were still drying for the weekend before I wore a pair of 35.00 sneakers I brought to cover me while my other ones were drying, they did well but feet were killing me by the end, both dad and I loved the walk and all the effort you have put into the caches.
Went up, following the geo trail and happily spotted those blue clips. On the way back down I got a couple of funny looks - a couple of tut tuts suggested they thought I could have 'held on' TFTC
I scrambled up for the find, but steed followed with the GPS when I didn't find it in the obvious place. I got caught short here, then caught out by a group of girls coming from the other direction, so I hunkered down low, covered my exposed hip with my bag and took photos of Kapiti Island. I'm sure they were none the wiser!
As mentioned by previous finder the cache is about 1 metre down the bank from the original spot due to the building of a new fence.
Couldn't find it until I read some logs and saw it had been moved. That's a bit of a nasty surprise to have to deal with. Anyway found quickly with that update in mind. TFTC.
A beautiful day with Cache.Mike on the stairway walk

#3095. I was at the Mana Island photoshoot event this morning and meet up with Chris (Yeetrees) who said he was off to walk this track. He wanted to check up on the caches along here to see if any had been affected by the earthquakes and heavy rain in November. He asked if I wanted to join him. I wasn't sure as I had to have the car back home by 3pm. But Chris thought we would have the walk completed by lunchtime. Well that might have been a bit optimistic. I would allow 4-5 hours one way stopping to find all the caches and then catch the train back to your car. The weather was glorious and sunny today with light winds. On the way downhill now. The cache name suggested one option but there has been a lot of work done here recently by fencers. So the cache was not at the expected spot. But Chris noticed on the previous log that the cache has been shifted down slope and a search of a likely spot soon revealed the cache in its new hiding spot. Signed the dry logbook and replaced as found. Thanks for the cache.
Found pretty quickly . A great spot here with very little wind today.

One of the party rested here while the rest went on up to the lookout and back. Placed something on top on case the exposed box blew away! Thanks
Thanks for placing the cache. Quick find on a Sunday walk with the junior cachers.
Stunning views, love the shafts of light coming through clouds over the sea today. TFTC Yeetrees.
Walked the stairway for the second time and while the young one needed a rest, I was getting the cache

I had previously decided that I would turn back when the rain started. That is exactly what happened here as I was putting the logbook back in the cache. I am happy that there will still be a few more caches for me to search for next time I come this way.
Found it with edvern. As we came back to the track some muggles suggested we were off-track. tftc.
