Luckily the weather cleared in time for beautiful views.
Cache in good condition, thanks
Certainly some burnt patches on the way in, but mostly regrowing pretty well. Looked like the track in didn't get anywhere near the worst of the fires. Head-high grass in places. Not too hard to navigate at the top, but we were certainly collecting grass seeds in our socks. Cache was in second place I looked, and all in good order. Nice view from cache, and we then walked anti-clockwise around the top of the table back to the path. We saw a snake up the top as we were returning.
Not the most spectacular hike in the area, but a good solid one with nice views throughout. Thanks for the cache.
About a third of the way in, a newly discovered hole in jcodys boot gave us concerns in the soggy ground conditions, and the incoming clouds suggested it could get even more uncomfortable. We pulled the pin and headed for some easier caching fare.
It turned out to be a really nice day once the cloud passed through but we make our decisions based on the resources we have and it's better to be a snug and safe cacher than a statistic.

I hadn't planned on taking the walk out to this one as I didn't think I would have enough time but I had made good time going out and back to the previous caches, so as I was driving past I thought "what the heck" I am going to shoot out and if I don't have enough time to do the rest then so be it.....I would just have to come up again.
so I parked at the JB Plain carpark and threw on the backpack and started off, fortunately due to some recent mowing, the track out was clearly marked so I didn't go off in a different direction
it was a really nice walk out through the forest, and up and down the saddle and I made quite good time out there, and after the last pull up to the summit (and a bit of zig-zagging around the fallen trees) I reached the top and was knocked out by the sheer cliffs all around and the fantastic views
it was one of those times when the views make you forget about the cache, and you have to remind yourself to go and find it.
Well find it I did, and sat on the edge of the rocks admiring the view back to the village and around to the twins having some lunch and taking some happy snaps to show the Queen via text.
Even the wind roaring up the face of the rocks couldn't blow away the smile on my face.
Soon enough it was time to tear myself away and head back, and the walk was just as enjoyable in reverse!
thanks Mick for bringing me out here to enjoy the spot, and the cache!
A favourite from us for sure!
Cheers
[blue]Eh bien je ai fait un gâchis de cette approche [/blue]
Arrived at the suggested start and started off down the well formed track which the arrow to Tabletop seemed to be pointing (In actual fact it was pointing across the alpine plain) After a considerable distance I consulted the GPSr and it indicated I was heading away from my intended destination Oops!
Enlarged the map on the GPR and it revelled I was at least 1km west of the Tabletop walking track. ok lets double back and head cross country to meet the track
The trek across the snow plain wasn't to bad and soon the GPSr was indicating Id met up with the trail to Tabletop but I couldn't make out the faintest trail what so ever, I trusted the GPS as it hadn't let me down before. It wasn't long after changing my heading that I was thinking maybe the track had been realigned, soon I was heading down hill with the gps say I was right on top of the track but I had come to the realisation that there had never been a track in this area
Once down the steep hill I started moving more in the direction of the cache. It was about the 2 km to go that I stumbled across the track I was supposed to be on Yeah! This was better a well maintained track clearly marked with orange markers mind you the trees in these parts look mighty hungry
The remaining walk to GZ was almost uneventful and quite enjoyable although once on the Table Top the dead trees have now decided to lay down making the final approach to GZ a zig zag one. Cache was located easy pezie then an hour at GZ taking in the serenity
The trip back to the car was much quicker as I decided to stay with the trail this time, highly recommended as well as this cache
Thx Bingley3683 for showing me this area, thoroughly enjoyed this cache and the journey how ever geography challenged I was on the day

Cheers

And this was it
But as we arrived in the morning the height of Mount Hotham had captured all the surrounding clouds and an aborted attempt looked on the cards. Heavy fog all the way from Harietteville.
We couldn't see 50 meters ahead of us.
We pushed on down the road a little.
Parked the car and immediately started our assault.
Here there was not a cloud in the sky (unless you looked towards Hotham). There was not a breath of wind. It was perfect.
But we started at the wrong spot and therefore a 2 kilometre walk was required to get to the start of the right track.
Following the track and over the creeks and up paths, the bananas pressed on.
The reward was a beautiful view and an even better container.
This one will last.
Thank you for bringing us here.
And we returned.
And we had walked just under 15 kilometres of pure pleasure and memories.
And mark down another first to find for the bananas.
