WA Big Trip Winter 2024. Day 9 - Whyalla to Cleve via Cowell. I have reached my first area with new counties to be tackled, but it was mostly a roadside day of caching with a side trip into Cowell and an afternoon on Cleve where I am spending the night at the show grounds. The silo art in Cowell was amazing and the trip out to the jetty for one of the Labs was very bouncy on the scooter. I even managed to large metalwork caches without any dramas. As ever, a bit of history thrown in during the day and a few random spots to keep it all interesting. One of serval roadside caches done today without any problems. Thanks for the cache McKee Clan46581.20 TNLNVisited: World Traveling Gold GC A#6 & 2007 Compass Rose Bronze A#73**Albida**

Took off to the North West a bit with Purrfect Di to avoid the rains back home.
Turned out this worked quite well as we only had a couple of showers for the whole weekend and saw some great scenery and found the odd cache or two!

We came, we cleaved a significant area of the local geocaching map!

Many thanks to McKee Clan for placing and maintaining this cache on our SA geo-map Cool

Travelling around - searching, spotting and signing cache logs using some or all of the resources of GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife), Whereyougo, Garmin Montana 750i, Montana 680t, Etrex 35, Samsung S21u, Samsung S9, with Geocaching App, c:Geo, or Geooh Go, and Android Auto and other maps... or often with just a guyess or plain old dumb luck WinkCoolBig Grin
Plenty of that luck stuff actually !!!

*All the online logs are composed and published with GSAK of course.*

Beware! Caching is a very hazardous activity!
Look out for sand, mud, snakes, surprise cliffs, roos, wombats, things falling from trees, bulldust, and floods, and sharp rocks in your tyres Surprised
try not to get tetanus from rusty mint tins and don't fall off your ladder...
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- and do watch out for germs and bugs !!! . [xx(]

Make Travel Bugs the Only bugs you share and pass on Wink
Keep your distance - cache the countryside Big Grin

Really fantastic of all those placing quality caches out and about around the country areas,
in sensible safe places especially! - it keeps our game safe, fun, and interesting Cool

Thanks so much for reading all this extra addition to the log word count! There's a challenge somewhere out there, apparently! You win a virtual smiley for the effort and getting to the end of the log Wink Maybe if I worked out where I could do it and go back to normal logs again !

Finished work locally and it wasn't raining so thought I'd find a quick cache before getting stuck into some study. Here for another fortnight or so and taking time to do a cache or so each day or so. The GPS ran around in circles and gave me a wrong area for a moment so used some Geosense and took less than a few minutes to find this cache after thinking laterally! After leaving town I parked 130 mtr past GZ cos lots of traffic nearby.. TYFTC SL TNLN

We are finally able to travel interstate without heaps of loops to jump through. We thought we would take it easy and have a look around South Australia and grab a few more LGA's while we were here.
Out for a morning run while camping at the wier. It was very windy this morning and we had a lot of rain overnight. My GPS intially had me on the wrong side of the road. Then it settled and I went to the correct location.

This was find number 1 for the day.

This weekend, I joined gridge98 on a trip to Eyre Peninsula, primarily visiting Port Lincoln and its surroundings. We saw its famous marina full of trawlers, and we also ended up visiting Coffin Bay and enjoyed fresh oysters. A nice weekend with weather, and certainly a great vicinity to see.

Today leaving Whyalla, we headed down the Lincoln Highway, passing through Cowell, Cleve, Arno Bay, Port Neill, and Tumby Bay. Just prior to lunch, we also completed the *Cleve Cleaver* geoart trail. A rather long day of geocaching numbers, but the inland and coastal towns were enjoyable to visit, along with the various picturesque beaches along the way.

Another quick find off the main road near Cleve. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks McKee Clan for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

Thanks for the cache

Detoured from our caching to head out to the weir and check out what the camping was like there compared to that at the showground. The weir won hands down.
Grabbed this one on our way back in to town to pick up where we left off.
Wouldn't mind a dollar for every cache we've found in this hiding place!!!
Thanks.

05-Apr-18
Day 4 of BarnZy and Cravo’s trip from Perth to Adelaide.

Today we travelled from Elliston on the Eyre Peninsula to Whyalla.

We kicked off relatively early, just before sun up and in some intense fog before starting our journey to Whyalla.

We travelled along the Birdseye Highway for the most part of the day, which was a fitting name as we needed an eagle eye to find some of the caches today.

Caching along the highway was good with a great variety of cache containers found, before heading into Lock, which was a very quaint small town, albeit we had little success finding the caches in town.

We moved along the he Cleve Cleaver series which was a great bunch of relatively quick finds, taking just under 2 minutes per cache as we started to get the rhythm of the caches along these parts. Great small power trail which kept us interested with some nice hiding spots.

Continuing along the highway we caches through Cleve, grabbing a few of the nifty letterbox hybrid hides which were most fun, were trying to collect more letterboxes which makes these caches really valuable.

After leaving Cleve we continued along the highway to Cowell, where we enjoyed a nice hot beef roll from the bakery for lunch before continuing up the Lincoln Highway towards Whyalla.

We arrived in Whyalla a little earlier than planned which was good as we had planned to complete the August series trail by torchlight. Before we completed the August series we eyed off a D5 cache Honeymoon Hilton which was an absolutely brilliant cache at a well staged ground zero and a brilliant hide, thankfully we didn’t have to resort to phoning the CO.

We then turned our attention to the August series and loved the quick finds of well setup containers. I thoroughly enjoyed the series.

We then cached around town and managed to pickup the 5/5 Schoolies Challenge, which we had managed to qualify quite some time ago.

We finished up with a great dinner at the camp kitchen at the caravan park we’re staying at.

Great day out and can’t wait to tackle the other Whyalla power trail tomorow.

05-Apr-18
Day 4 of the Perth to Adelaide trip where we started in Elliston and ended in Whyalla.

Today was about finding as many caches as possible and starting / warming up to the larger power trails that bought is over here.
We completed the cleve clever series with a find every 2 minutes, and the August series with around 2 finds a minute.

The day started with a slight sleep in as the travell today was considerably less all up after the 4th day 2900km travelled.

During the morning we would of done most of it through thick fog yet again for the rest half hour despite a later start to

Anyway we made more tracks to Cleve, Cowell and many more in between.

The day also included B12 getting his 11000th cache on cache “August 11” and a total find tally of 112 caches.

McKee Clan I found your cache Let's Cleve thanks for placing this hide for myself and others to find.

Dunsborough is where it’s all at this year check it out at GC7GXQA October 13th + 14th. Hope to see you all there at WA Goes Big 2018.

Hi there McKee Clan.

We found your cache **"Let's Cleve"** at 11:43:00 AM today. This cache makes our find count 13901.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip around the local area today. We usually start the day off by nominating a cache some distance away from our camp site and then take a route mainly determined by the next closest cache according to our GPS. Todays plan was an attempt to "clean out" Clever before heading back to camp at Cowell.

###Thanks for not placing an eclipse tin or a 200ml Sistema here. Once upon a time caches seemed to be "regular" sized, and well stocked with goodies for kids to swap. Nowadays it seems like every other cache is small and devoid anything to induce children to enjoy the hunt. It made us feel really good to find this cache in a "special" place.###

We ended up finding 20 & DNFing 0 caches today. Wink

**Coordinate Accuracy:** We found your cache around two metres from where the GPS said we should be looking. Wink
**Cache Condition:** The container and log book are in good shape.
**Took:** Nothing.
**Left:** Smiley Badge.
**Dropped Trackable:** "MEG Brainstrust Elephant".

Thanks for the hunt today,

Regards

Ian & Penny.

Found whilst on a fabulous Easter long weekend caching trip with CPwanderer travelling from Adelaide to the Eyre Peninsula.

Today has been filled with much of the same as yesterday - fun, laughter and lots of crazy caching adventures [^] ....as well as flies (that were very friendly and seemed to like riding in the air conditioned car with us), HUGE and hungry ants (ouch!), a large nest of spiky caterpillars, cute little kangaroos and even having a close call with a DEATH ADDER SNAKE - keep in mind I was with CP!! Off on a caching adventure with GoodLook on the Easter long weekend!! We had perfect weather and, for the route we were taking, surprisingly little traffic! Our target was the Cleve Cowell area althouth we started way before this. Our biggest challenge was the lack of anything open, apart from roadhouses, on the Friday and Saturday!!
Easy find .... all in good condition!!
