I didn’t realise it was archived (still showing on my app Geobucket as ongoing). I had printed the cache page last year, so I worked out the coordinates which took me exactly where it would have been.
I liked the title of the cache, the history info provided, the type of caches we enjoyed.
Thank you for creating it. By visiting it, I prolonged its life.

Looked in both obvious spots and I think it has gone. Possibly from a recent council clean up
Got the clues and the final coordinates. A young couple in the middle of making out at the GZ so had to leave the search for another day. Trying to verify coordinates tonight now that I am back at hotel, but Evince has been gone for months so no way to verify. CO may wish to change to a geochecker.
Doing a spot of geo caching after the Lego show with the geo boy. Nice easy clue and find on a beautiful Sydney day. TFTC.
The things you learn when you geocache! Born and bred here in Sydney and never even really noticed this obelisk before, no doubt having walked past this too many times to count. And I had no idea what its purpose was really for. I really enjoyed reading the history as I sat in front of it and stared at this significant structure.
The information was easy to find and soon a GZ was punched in to the Garmin. Luckily not too many muggles were about and after a short search the cache was spotted.
Thanks for this interesting piece of local history.

I tought I couldn't finish this cache today as after doing the easy calculations my battery died.
But a vague idea of where it could be hidden after 5 mins, cache was in hand!

13/4/17 Found with morry9 before our Dönerstag event this evening down at Darling Harbour. Thanks For The Cache!
Nice quick find with JordsAU before our event at Darling Harbour ! Cheers for the cache!
Find number 3858
A nice simple lunchtime multi and a easy find even with the high muggle population in the area. Luckily people are more interested in where their going that what others are doing.
Thanks Rheneas for placing this cache.

Found at 11:52 AM in the company of pprass.
We were looking forward to this leg of our Sydney trip even though we had a lovely time with Nanna Nel and wazza9 at their place for a few nights.
Walked up to the first WP from our nearby hotel and immediately came across a problem - what "*... small inscription*"? We eventually worked something out and with horrendous GPS reception we went all over the place. It was hopeless. As pprass said, we ended up searching as per the hint and found the cache at a distance of 37 metres!
Thanks Rheneas.
ps – do you know that the Evince checker no longer works?

Found at 11:52 AM GAFF3 in the company of NurseHayley.
After spending 4 wonderful nights at Nanna Nel's and wazza9's place we headed into town and set up base camp at a nearby hotel. The closest cache was this one and we soon were at the "needle" looking for "*a **small** inscription*" which had us a bit confused for a while. We ended up just using the only inscription that we could find - which wasn't so small - and got a set of co-ords that looked very plausible. However because of the buildings and other obstructions we were pushed around all over the place by the GPSr. It was hopeless. We ended up searching as per the hint and found the cache at a distance of 37 metres!
Interesting information about the reason for the obelisk and we sure got a whiff of what it's purpose was - well maybe it is not high enough anymore!
Thanks Rheneas.
Feedback: The Evince checker no longer works as it has been disabled. You will need to set up another checker.

Found it on a rainy day, sightseeing the city. I could unfortunately not retrieve it from it's hiding place, as I did not have long enough tool with me today and my hand was too fat to reach it from either side. TFTC
GPS playing up, couldn't see the thing anywhere but not sure if I was in the right spot!
I was in the city today, so decided to do this multi. Once I located the "small" inscription, I worked out the required information and once confirmed as correct headed to GZ. Once there I spied the location and I was able to easily retrieve. A nice easy multi, thanks.
Was a bit hard to grab, had to wait for people to walk by. Sadly I didn't have my pen on me, and the onside is missing.
Nice camo job though.

We found this cache this evening. We were looking in the wrong place initially but realised our mistake when we looked at the photos. It certainly is an interesting monument. TFTC
Grabbed this one while on a short walk through the park. Nice semi-quick cache. Would have been a little quicker if my phone was not off. After looking around was an easy find. TFTC!!
Spent the day in the city geocaching with my sister. Did the puzzle fairly quick and headed off to GZ. Found one likely spot for the cache with nothing there. Unless we were looking in the wrong spot then someone has sadly taken this. TFTC
Was out walking the city after work on a Friday Afternoon and decided to tackle to multi to kill some time. Got the required info and set about doing the maths. While I was doing this, some Hobo ask me for a smoke and I had nothing to give as I don't smoke. Anyway! after getting the green light from the checker and reading the hint, I soon had the cache in hand. Did the legals and replaced as found. TFTCM

On a short journey in Sydney had to find at least one cache to put Australia on the map.
After been bitten by several moustiquos while solving the puzzle, the cache was found easily.
The logbook however was wet (a whole in the plastic bag) I added a small paper myself.

Two Norwegian travellers on vacation/geocaching in Australia. Travelling by car from Brisbane to Adelaide with stops in interesting and not so interesting places. We have been travelling almost 5000 kilometers before we returned the car in Adelaide a month ago. Then we flew over to Hobart, hired a new car and did a Tassie roundtrip the next 2 weeks. We have done the big highlights, Cradle mountain Nat. Park, the northern coast and the big cities. After Bruny Island we went to the Tasman Peninsula to visit Port Arthur and the convicts. Flew back to Sydney and went on a 2 week cruise around New Zealand.
Returned to Sydney on wednesday ago and will stay in town until monday.
Went up to Elisabeth Street to catch the bus to Bondi Beach.
TB drop.

First cache for us outside the USA. Great park and just the right level of challenge.
01:10 Some people nearby looked over, but I ignored them as they were probably going to mind their own business at this hour. The plastic bag is torn.
A quick find while walking through Hyde Park.

We decided to to into the city this afternoon and have a look around at the Christmas displays and decorations - and do a few caches while there, of course. This multi was easy enough to work out and the cache was soon in hand in the second place checked. It was successfully retrieved while muggles were everywhere. All duties were completed and the retuning of the cache was just as carefully managed.

I think this si the last one I found on my trip. Got the info and then went to GZ struggled to find the final since there had been some work done in the area - eventually made the find.
I got an opportunity to travel to Australia for a business trip. I have made this trip twice before once to Sydney almost 20 years ago for my honeymoon and another business trip to Melbourne almost 15 years ago – so, I was excited to visit the Land Down Under and revisit life in the Southern Hemisphere.
I did a little pre-planning and grabbed Lane Cove on the day of my arrival to make sure that I got that one marked off as soon as possible. The next couple days were consumed with work (that is why the company paid for me to fly here after all). On Saturday morning at 3am I had to wake up and participate on a call back in the states. The call ended up finishing about 4:45 am and while I thought I was going to go back to sleep a colleague had told me – if you are not tired you should probably go ahead and stay up and go check out the sunrise down at the Circle Quay. So, feeling pretty vitalized I decided to take advantage of the opportunity and strolled down to the Quay. I did a little sightseeing, caching and then met my colleague for breakfast. He asked what I had been doing and what I planned to do the rest of the day and I explained to him about geocaching he was intrigued and asked if he could tag along. Always happy to have someone that is interested in the game come along so I said sure. We spent the next 3 hours caching in the Gardens and catching up on life and work. My colleague grew up in Denmark and lives in Shanghai so he was completely digging being outdoors and enjoying a beautiful day in Australia. Around lunch time we headed back to the Quay for lunch with a couple other colleagues. What a beautiful way to spend an afternoon. After lunch a third colleague decided to join us and we took the Ferry to Manly Bay for some more exploration (managed to get in one more cache) and then back to the Quay. I was ready to keep going but, the other two were done and we decided to call it a day. I walked back to the hotel, grabbed some dinner then turned on the TV. I think I fell asleep about 15 minutes after the TV came on. I checked my Watch and I had walked over 15 miles over 15 hours. What a great day.
On Sunday I slept in until 6 then headed out to grab a few more caches before heading to the airport. I got to explore some other parts of Sidney and see the annual Santa Clause run (Have you ever seen 2000+ people dressed up like Santa Clause in one spot?), went up the top of the tower and grabbed a few more caches – today’s partial day of caching only involved 7.8 miles of walking (all on the foot I broke 6 weeks ago in London on another caching trip!) ; )
What an awesome trip! I think I ended up with 4 different cache types, the oldest cache in Australia, 20+ different caches, put thousands of miles on some TBs including one that is in a contest and saw some great things. I Love Caching!

TFTC,
In the city for an appointment and thought we would grab a few on such a great day before heading back into the suburbs.
Looked at Cook & Philip yet again after finding a Troll and gave up again. I went for this next to build my Multi numbers again since they have fallen behind the EarthCache finds.
Coordinates a bit out but the clue took you to a suspect location.
Visited some trackables.

Found and logged this cache last week on my way to the bus stop, I solved the puzzle a long while ago and could see the container once while walking past but never got the chance to actually log it until now. Very fun cache. Thanks!

Bikerbuddy & I came to this park to do the mob-cache. That one found, we started to head for some lunch when I saw this one on my map. How have I missed this all the other times I've been through here recently? Turned out bikerbuddy had already done this one, so it doesn't show up on his queries. Today I had loaded my own query on my own GPS.
I quickly worked out the coordinates, walked a short distance & made a quick find. Took the geocoin which I dropped off at an event he next day.
Then we resumed our interrupted quest for lunch.
Thanks

This was the only find for the day. This cache has taken some time to complete. On my first attempt, I was in the city collecting other caches and this was at the end of the day. I collected the required information and was thankful for the history lesson. Given my own history calculating multis in the field, I took advantage of the plentiful seating arrangements whilst many muggles walked by. I had a set of coordinates but given the GPS reception in the city, I decided to use the hint as well. This turned out to be a bust as I was walking in circles so I decided to leave it. Once at home, I looked at some past photos and realised where I should have been looking. Many weeks later, I was in the city again and decided to check out GZ. Again, I used the hint but still couldn't find anything. Then I realised I hadn't updated my Garmin and upon checking the updated cache listing page at home, the cache had been marked as missing. Finally, today I was in the city again and this time I was not going home without signing the log. I approached GZ but there was a transport worker nearby. Thankfully, he went back down the stairs so I could search. One side did not reveal anything but the other side hid the cache using natural camo. SL. TFTC.
Had a little bit of time to kill before meeting for our mob cache, so headed towards this one where I bumped into Boswijk Posse. Quickly worked out our coords and soon had CIH. Interesting history. TFTC

After a short walk I decided to grab a multi as I hadn't recalled collecting a Sydney orange coloured cache and this one was good as any. At WP1 I was interrupted by a few phone calls but soon after gathering clues the cache was found- a few rats nearby were also spotted in close proximity of GZ, which evokes my first memory of Hyde Park. tftc
Coordinates have been in my notebook for a while and today I finally managed to locate the cache. No muggles around - surprisingly. Thanks for replacing the cache Rheneas
Cache has been replaced and it ready to be found again, sorry for the delay. Please ensure you take advantage of natural camo to help hide it from muggles!
Sorry folks, will have this one back in action before the start of the school holidays, thanks for your patience.
any chance this cache could be replaced and activated by school holidays plz?
i found the cache a while ago but left it for another time to claim the find went past it a week or so ago and yes it is gone from where i saw it. just curious when it will be replaced and reactivated
Headed into the city for the day with the geowife and walked up to Hyde Park to the Obelisk. Retrieved all of the necessary information at WP1 and calculated the coordinates for GZ. GPSr was a bit all over the place , was able to zero in on two likely locations but was unable to locate the cache container after a good 30 minutes of searching. Have to come back in for another search during the daylight hours.
Great history, TFTC! In Sydney for a five-day trip from Wellington, NZ. Detoured through Hyde Park to get this cache on my way to meet friends at the Paramount Coffee Project in Surry Hills.
An impromptu cache day in the CBD with raindoctor, rassilon256 and runaroundtheworld. The aim: clearing some of the multis in the area. I'll call this as the first find for the day for me because we had multiple multis going on at one point. A quick pick up after solving the puzzle. Tftc!
On an impromptu caching expedition with misspalot, rassilon256 and runaroundtheworld. Today was a confusing day with us "optimizing" to get the maximum number of caches. So in between multi's we were squeezing in other multi's. What a blur! But I think this was the first find for myself today. The hint helped. We admired the camo and the obelisk. Thanks to rassilon256 who actually reads cache descriptions and told me what the obelisk was for. Cool man!
Our first multi for our multi-multi day. This was quite a simple process, and I am not that skilled yet, so my fellow cachers had it worked out before me. raindoctor had the likely hiding spot in sight quickly and the log was soon signed.
Out for a day doing multis in the CBD area with Little Roo and Bryzee, we came around to do this one, too.
This cache showed what caching is all about: finding your city and surroundings in a new way enjoying time outdoors! I have seen this obelisk before but only now stopped by, read about it and actually watched it. The vent cover on the top is a fancy one and the whole obelisk must have been quite sight back in its time. Thanks for bringing us here! [^]
We confirmed the data we need to collect, started to make notes and soon had the numbers ready. New coords into the smartiephone app and we headed to the final. Cursory checks first and then Little Roo got down to business in earnest and made the find.
The logsheet was very damp and would not last for long. We placed a new waterproof sheet in, it has about 55 places left now.
Otherwise all good here. TFTC, Rheneas!

Visiting Sydney for a mini-break and out doing the touristy thing on foot today
After popping into Paddy's Markets which is significantly different and less interesting than it was in my childhood years, I headed over to Darling Harbour and then on to the Quay to hook up with tdimdad, Bryzee and the adorable Little Roo
Cold out tonight and I was keen to get out of night air and keep walking as we were headed to Chinatown for dinner. But... tdimdad would not let me walk past this multi He even gave me a notepad so I could figure out the coords. A few minutes later I had crunched the numbers and was on the way to GZ! Not there but, oh wait, it's here! Very neat city multi! Now can we get out of the cold?!

Down from the Central Coast on a geocaching adventure with the Little Roo and Tdimdad. I have walked right past this obelisk many times back in my pre-geocaching days and would always take a moment to marvel at it. Funny to think that this was actually something I would one day revisit with a purpose. After figuring out the cords we made a swift find TFTC Rheneas .

Also love Hyde Park, its a great place to visit. A favourite for me.

I was in Sydney for the great Sing Oz in the Opera house. a choir of nearly 700 singers singing Handel's Israel in Egypt. It was absolutely great. so i went over a day ahead to do the tourist bit and , of course to find some more caches here in Sydney.
What a great concept and effective way of dealing with the problem. No one was around today as it was very early in the morning. so i soon had the co-ords in hand and went to GZ which i found to be just a little out on my GPS but the clear hint soon had the cache in hand. I took photos which i will log also once home in NZ.
THaNK YOU FOR THE CACHE ANOTHER SMILEY FACE.

I had been able to solve this one before coming to Sydney (thanks google). Today it was a matter or finding and signing. I found it ok but the log was too wet to sign (as per previous maintenance log). I added a dry piece of paper as a temp log. TFTC
