BEWARE OF THE ELECTRIC FENCE:

At Armidale today for two nights and caching in the area. Some target caches that need our names in them.

Got a bit of a shock.

Today caching and travelling with RoddyC.

We have started our homeward journey from Canberra after the Mega, and after overnighting in Bathurst, and our first of two nights in Armidale, today we hunt high altitude caches. Bald Hills Road circuit is our target.

The electric fence was active here!

Log signed and cache replaced as found at 10:44 AM on April 16, 2023. TFTC, groovydoo

Out and about caching today while visiting Dorrigo for a couple of days. Due to the number of caches, I am doing a generic log. Found the cache and signed the log. TFTC

Instead of heading mega north to Townsville for Easter, Seffnjarah and I planned a long weekend road trip south to Armidale and surrounds.

Another early start out of the swag at our preferred roadside camp site just out of town. The plan today was to cache along the Waterfall Way chasing unloved and high elevation caches with an FTF thrown in for good measure.

Still laughing quietly to myself about Seff's encounter with the electric fence here. At first, with all his carry on, I wasn't certain what had happened - a swarm of killer bees, a nasty brown joe blake, an unbalanced cheque account perhaps? Nah ... just an electric fence. Glad of some light entertainment here after a long day out.

Many thanks groovydoo

Pete

With most of the caches on the passenger's side of the car, Crookedpete had been delegated to jump out and find the caches we had passed so far (only requiring the odd assist here and there). As we rolled up to this one the cache hiding place was obvious so he kindly dispatched me to take my turn at making the find on this one.

The cache was dangling in plain sight so the retrieval was easy and I signed us into the logbook, although the paper was considerably wet. Nothing left but to replace the logbook and be on our way.

# POW #

I stagger back, stunned, unsure what has just happened.

Had I just been kicked in the guts by a ninja kangaroo lurking in the long grass? Was I just shot by a cranky farmer sniping from a grassy knoll? Or maybe a giant pelican-sized wasp had swooped down out of the trees to sting me?

As my senses slowly returned and the pain subsided, I looked down to see the wire I had brushed my arms against while replacing the cache.

As I write this log, I now see mention of said electric fence in a previous log and the cache page description. I am now having evil thoughts about my passenger Crookedpete. One suspects that he had ample time between caches to read the cache description on this one, and noting the electric fence comment, innocently suggest that I be the one to put myself in harm's way. A wolf in sheep's clothing lurks within. Your time will come Crookedpete... your time will come...

Watch out for the the electric bit of the fenceline. The cache isn't on it but its possible to get zapped if not careful when retrieving log. I had a bovine audience while I was logging it.

Left Grafton this morning heading to Tamworth to meet up with DiMorgan for the 29 Feb Souv. Stopped at Ebor and noticed this trail nearby. Setup the caravan at the Pub and set off for these. Nearly at the end and the heavens opened up on us. We were planning on doing the other trail but decided to call it and headed back to support the local pub for a few light refreshments.

Long weekend....time to get away. I left Brisbane yesterday after work and eventually made it to Grafton. This morning dawned raining with low cloud cover. This put a damper on my original plans for the day. Instead, I lounged around for a bit and had an extra cuppa or two before setting off. As the weather had begun to clear, I decided to follow this trail of caches. The cache was quickly located and the log signed. TFTC

Hmmm, so the last cacher says they "Found it" but it is on the ground on the other side of an electric fence. I spent ages going up and down the fence, getting zapped multiple times, trying to find this cache on the ground to attempt a retrieval.

Sadly, got sick of being accidentally zapped, so, we gave up, gunna need a replacement I feel.

Found out on a caching day around dorrigo and surrounds, with the main aims the bald hill and deer vale road caches. sorry for the generic logs and thanks for the cache. cache is laying on the other side of the fence, i wasn’t able to retrieve it so it is still there i’m afraid. thanks anyway

Staying around Dorrigo for a few days, camping and geocaching.

Time to attack the bald hills trail, most caches located after a short search, however a few took quite some time.

Another quick find, three bulls watched us in keen interest as we signed the log.
Thanks for the cache

Our caching list for today was brought to us courtesy of groovydoo! Thank you for so many caches to be found.
This Bald Hills run was an easier series of caches to find and the countryside is really lush and green. Our name was noted in each log found and all the containers were in good condition as were the contents.

Up in toowoomba there is a starship puzzle series geoart I have completed and many of the hides are like this one. There ya go, don't say I never give out hints, haha!

We have been staying at the free camp in Thora with our caravan and using it as a base to cache around Bellingen and Dorrigo to as far as Ebor. Fabulous countryside and we have loved the creative hides on this series which quite often took some time to find. After the disaster of the last cache, I managed to make this one spectacular. After a short search I went over to a nearby post. As I went to look into the top of the old post it gave way, taking it & me into the drain below much to the amusement of geoHubby. There I was (In a very unladylike position) crying for help, only to be met with mirth. I was convinced the cache was in the top of the post which (if it was there) was nowhere to be seen. I apologise Groovydoo for not mentioning this when we saw you. It completely slipped my mind.

Our second series of caches for today. Enjoyed this series more than the other Deer Vale ones - maybe it was just that it was more open country. Thanks so much Groovydoo for the effort you have put into the series. Great way to see the less travelled roads of Australia.

On a day trip form Coffs To Armidale and took a slight detour to see how many of these Bald Hills caches I could find. Started late and ran out of light after a couple of caches, and of course had no torch so that added a bit of a challenge. I count this cache as a lucky find as it was now fairly dark and after searching unsuccessfully for the cache in the likely places I dropped my pencil and low and behold there was a little micro on the ground (couldn't find my pencil). I replaced the cache where I think it should have been Groovydoo but you might like to check on it sometime.

Decided to have an impromptu weekend away from Newcastle after the floods, so what better time to have a crack at gaining some stats for GC4K8YK NSW Altitude Challenge? It was however made more difficult by very limited reception, which meant all we had on the phone was the map with 30 closest caches and no information. A good test of 'cacher's instinct' - we only had 1 DNF which was pleasing. A fun day out with the kids, recommend the growers markets 45 minutes down the road too - great coffee and waffles!

We really enjoyed the Bald Hills series (as drive-by series go). Some inventive hides, with reasonable variety, and good coords. Nice views, cows on the road. Happy times. Thanks for all the effort.

This was our only DNF of the series. GZ seemed obvious enough but could not seem to lay eyes on it. Sad face!

21-Apr-15
Found as part of our run through the Bald Hills mini power trail. While we don't normally go a lot of D 1.5 T 1.5 caches however we enjoyed the county side on our way through and thought the rating on some could be lifted a little. These all qualified us for the NSW altitude sickness challenge. We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC. Thanks for placing the series

It had snowed the previous night & as we arrived into Ebor there was still evidence laying around in the shady areas.

And now for something completely different.

I pointed Trainsport in the right direction and he checked the offending structure carefully and found nothing. Said it was not there and headed off to a nearby tree to see if the GPS was playing tricks. I decided to double check his location putting my trust in the GPS for this occasion and quickly found a very sneaky cache. Trainsport had never seen one like this before.
