dropped in, or should i say splooshed in through all the mud to replace the missing log book... cache is all good and happy
Now Mrs Gernita was starting to feel the thirst too. She had run out of water quite a ways before and was resorting to apples for hydration. This whole walk was a bit more taxing than we anticipated. We knew there would be mud, and we knew it would be long, but somehow we thought we would fly through. It had just started raining as we got to this point but it was kind of nice as we were pretty warm and the cooling rain was appreciated.
The GPS in my phone is plaing up and has me 17m back up the track. so it was more a matter of using my geosenses to find this cache! It was missing a log book, so used some paper from my bag to sign our names and continue onwards. MUD, GLORIOUS MUD!!! Slow going at this point.
"Let's go for a walk" I had suggested. Onawe was upfor it while some of our othe caching friends had plans in other parts of the country. So taking two cars we left one at the end of the Upper Nihotapu dam car park, and then drove down to the Upper Huia Dam track so we could do the loop (figured we couldn't go wrong if it was left turns all the way!) LEaving just before 10am, we finally made it back to the car at 4pm.

needed a bit of fresh air, so we decided that this was the place to come.. and we werent dissapointed.. we even got real rain to stir up the mud for our splashing. New log container and log installed.. cache fine:-)
I remembered this song at a few parties back in the 80's so I hummed it on the way to the cache. I'm not so sure the company that I kept *fully* appreciated it.
I appreciate the cache hide tho!

With Merlot58, Pazza & Geocchi...on a gorgeous autumn morning.
Being entertained (?) by Pazza's melodious(?) rendition of the theme tune, along the way! Tftc

As soon as Bertie mentioned the name, Pazza started singing the song, then Geocchi found the cache
Two Kereru keep me company and a Tomtit (Miromiro). Although the second bird is a little shy
For some reason the cache was 10m out, must be all the tree cover, I overshot the cache, then backtracked a few times, and eventually found the hide. Lovely and cool out in the bush, only a threat of rain.

Walked past this one as I was enjoying the walk to much - the woes

Thank you for this lovely cache found on a cloudy muddy sunday with my "Borders Beyond" team
TFTC!
TFTC!
Took a while to find this one. Well hidden and difficult to get out as it was well wedged into the roots.Cache all good. Tftc
Spent quite a long time at what my phone thought was GZ (was bouncing all over the show). Unfortunately had to move on.
My mission for today was to walk the dam to dam track and find as many caches as I could along the way. It took me about 5.5 hours car park to car park. I was trudging back to my car along the road when a very kind Brazilian couple stopped and gave me a lift the last couple of kilometres which really helped to save my legs at the end. This one took me ages to search for. TFTC, Biggles.
Great day for tan! Autographed fresh paper. Totally stoked.
Tripped here for a hike with some accomplice cachers.

Took a little while to find the lean, had to wait for muggles to go past, but found eventually. TFTC
With the weather not having been *too* wet this week, ANZAC Day seemed like a great day to meet up with KirsTim and yorkshirekiwi83 to tackle the loop of caches along the Upper Huia Dam and the Christies Track, before finally finishing at the carpark of the Upper Nihotupu Walk. Luckily no large slips came in the way of our plans, and all the tracks were still accessible. A great day with some good terrain and fun company, along with some fun caching to boot.
Didn't do too much singing of the song in subject along our way towards this cache. No problems at GZ, and we sang the only line of the chorus we remembered when we found the container. Thanks for the hide.

Vamber organised a tramp out in the Waitakeres and was kind enough to invite me along with them KirsTim attended as well and we signed as VKY. With a little bit of singing we set off towards this cache, the singing soon stopped as a) we realised we didnt actually know the words and b) too much concentration was required not slipping off the track when we passed slips and keeping ourselves from becoming too bogged down in the mud. however the a wee chorus was started again when we got to GZ. After an early start for the ANZAC dawn service, we set off with Vamber & yorkshirekiwi83 to gather all the caches on the Huia Dam & Christies tracks (hopefully). The 'track closed' sign was a bit concerning as it wasn't dated and we couldn't work out whether it was on 'our' track or not.
Somehow we couldn't manage many of the words to this song, a little sing of the chorus was all we could muster up between us. By the time we reached the cache through the mud, over the slippery roots and narrow paths the song had been forgotten. Log signed and we set the gps for the next, tftc

Enjoyed the walk from Piha Road to the Upper Huia Dam and back again. Unfortunately it started raining an hour into the walk which made the fairly rough tramping track even rougher with the slippery exposed tree roots and rocks. Even after adjusting for geocaching time, the return trip took me a lot longer than the suggested 3 hours. The cache was quickly spotted. TFTC.
My GPS was jumping around a lot on the walk in to Upper Huia Dam but took me straight to it on the back way out to Piha rd. TFTC!
I actually missed this cache on my way in, I must have been in my running zone and did not hear the GPS beep until I had long past it! A quick find on out way back up the path though!
Last cache on the track for the day, really great day with CO, Natoratia and excellent muggle walker. Nice spot and well hidden...thanks
Out tramping the tracks of the Waitakeres with Tufty. Didn't take too long to find this one. Great hint. Thanks for the cache.
I had convinced BaldEd when he arrived to stay a few days ago to go on a nice walk in the Waitakeres. He didn't need much convincing so here we are.
There were a lot of slippery tree roots on the way to this caches and plenty of mud. I was thankful that I was wearing my gaiters.
Cheers for the cache.

Great fun was had today, the roots are all part of the fun, the mud up to yer knees, boots sloshing thru the mud, food bouncing around in the backpack, excellent!
Found it with the rest of the gang of 8--a good group of folks to be out with spending the day in the woods. Doing the loop anticlockwise today. I like the dropoffs down the left side of the track, but tip- toeing through the roots was a bit of a pain. Not so easy with big feet but still good fun. Signed in with the rest as "Tinkerbell and Friends". Cheers for the cache.
Like kiwicouple before us the GPS had us spread out in various parts of the track but there was really only one suitable place that seemed the most likely and after a bit of a search I found myself with the cache and we were another one down for the day. Easy when there's eight of you... TFTC
My first decent caching adventure in a long time. Great company, with FMZ, slieschke, greenblat, stretch.kerr, evilno9, lemski & paultaps. My first time around this loop. Thoroughly enjoyed it, although my personal cache finding skills were a bit rubbish today. Logbook collectively signed "tinkerbell & friends".
Spent a bit of time looking too deep, but Mrs Sp8 was soon on to it. Following some other cachers today but never caught up.

The second cache find on our group outing today - slieschke (aka tinkerbell aka special tool - it's a long story), greenblat, stretch.kerr, alpenmilch80, evilno9, lemski, paultaps and myself. Actually I think it was this one that had our GPS units all in a tiz, so it was a few minutes before it was spotted. The group signed in as "tinkerbell and friends". TFTC!!!
Today’s hiking trip included FMZ, slieschke, greenblat, stretch.kerr, evilno9, lemski & paultaps. We started at Upper Huia Dam Track and connected via the two dams via the Christies Track. We returned to the Upper Nihotupu Walk to collect some of the cars. I enjoyed the tunnels, dams and laughter along the way. Another great day out

Out today with Tinkerbell and his many find friends, it was a nice sunny autumn day to walk the two dams loop and pick up a bunch of new caches.
Toora Loora Toora Loo-Rye-Aye!
T4TC and thanks to the crew for a great day out

Found out caching between the two upper dams with alpenmilch80, evilno9, funkymunkyzone, Greenblat, Lemski, Paultaps and stretch.kerr. A great Saturday's caching with great company, a great walk and some caches to find as icing on the top! Caches were signed as "Tinkerbell and Friends". Thanks!
At 8am we began our walk down the Upper Huia Dam track from Piha Road to the dam, hoping for 9 FTFs this morning. We took it slowly on the first part of the track - plenty of roots and rocks on the track, and all very slippery with the morning dew. The sign at the road said 1 1/2 hrs to the dam, but we knew it was going to take a lot longer than that - by the time we had found Come on I Lean it was already 9am.
The GPS had zeroed, but 'he' walked on to search a likely looking spot. When nothing was found he backtracked, and we checked other examples of the hide. Still nothing, so 'she' had a quick look at the original suspect and immediately spotted the cache. GPS reception seems to be a bit dodgy down here in the bush.
Another good hide here - loved the name of this one - and our 2nd FTF of the morning

I was there on placement with both of the alligatorsnz on a fun Anzac day hike! (Therefore not an FTF - well done to kiwicouple for that honour!)
