Spring Victorian Incursion 2024.Day Fifteen: Baw Baw LGAWeather: very wintery, pretty dire.A nice big letterbox cache here and a novel way of keeping the contents secure. The chances of me miscounting something where there are more than ten items is high, but I managed to get it right first time today. Back home, caches in real letterboxes usually come with a frantic huntsman, but there doesnt seem to be one in residence here, or maybe it was just too cold for her to show herself today. The trackables were discovered, but none were taken. No advertising material was left. Thanks for this letterbox hybrid Bounty Trackers
Cache # 11249 on 26 Apr 2024Decided to take advantage of the ANZAC day holiday and make a long weekend of it - added a road trip with Bobl27 to the mix and all is set for a fun few days. We are travelling from home in the ACT to Victoria via Cooma and then doing a relaxed loop to Melbourne picking up a few caches and counties along the way. And then straight up the Hume home! No tricky DTs or long walks this trip. This cache: after a trip to the High Country, it was good to get back onto some tar! Dropped by this cache to make sure I got this county. Counted all things very carefully and got the lock open first go! Dropped a pathtag for the next finder! Thank you Bounty Trackers for the cache and the fun!
Yesterday during our roadtrip we had quite the amazing time, seeing wild koalas and traveling over 500 kilometers across the country. Today we woke up in Warragul and our plan was to get relatively close back to Melbourne, though it wasnt necessarily our destination. I had planned our trip to head a little further north before returning to the big city to visit three stashes which would help us with our Jasmer grid, and we werent really in a rush to make it back to the city. Our day was nonetheless quite busy and ended delightfully in [an STF](https://coord.info/GL1BXAH1P); but more on that later. Just as we ended our geo-trip yesterday, we started our day with an unfortunate DNF. After checking out of the hotel, this is the second of fifteen visited today. We moved a little further to this larger hotel, which we wanted to visit to say goodbye to some of our bugs, and it was a nice place to do that. We befriended some curious sheep at this camp place, and after figuring out the field puzzle, we got the lock & lock open and spotted the TBs and logbook inside. We greeted the hotel manager and dropped two TBs here, while taking one with us, and inked our nick into the logbook at 9:56 am, making this our 7170th overall find. Thank you Bounty Trackers, for placing and maintaining your 1.Travel Bug Hotel,No Advertising Materials Thanks stash; we were glad to visit it and spice up our Wednesday while down under in Australia for our spring break, visiting from slightly-distant Myanmar! We snapped a photo and returned the stash as we found it, and appreciate the opportunity for a find and visiting another new location. Both the mailbox, the containers and logbook are in good condition; we took nothing, left nothing, signed log. For my own personal statistics; this is the ninety-third of 112 geocaches we visited down under while on spring break, excluding the 56 adventure lab caches we visited and 28 Waymarks visited.
On our way home to Melbourne from the Mega in Canberra, we have had a busy holiday camping and caching. Thanks for placing this awesome cache!
With Wombatwandering on our first day Melbourne to Canberra for the Mega via Gippsland. WW loves TBs so this was am essential stop.
Here with ConnieandRick on our way to Canberra for the Mega. We were not sure where to park so prob did a bit of an illegal one. Luckily we worked out the numbers required before a parking inspector arrived. Swapped over some trackables and we were back on the road. Thanks and FP.
Thank you Bounty Tracker, been trying to get back my TB to fix it.Just missed it at Ballarat Cemetery.I did forget my pen but did take a photo. Will definitely be dropping my next lot of TB in this Hotel Thanks for the cache
Love this one beautiful location, the lock ia unfortunately broken we found it sitting on the log next to it. Discovered every trackable and left some swag thanks
The day was forecast to be one of those rare pleasant days in winter... so I took the opportunity to drive down to South Gippsland Shire and Baw Baw Shire to hunt out a few caches... the things you do when you take on *LGA Challenges*...
Having spent most of my day in South Gippsland Shire, it was now time to make a few finds around the Warragul area to get some in for Baw Baw Shire. I love a Letterbox cache... especially one that is a letterbox... and even more especially when it is a very clever set up like this one. After a bit of counting I was soon inside, signing the log and sorting through the Trackables. I left one and took two... including a big fluffy one that was making it hard to close the cache lid.
Thanks **Bounty Trackers** for this will made cache.

Heymissjo alerted me to this popular cache while we were on a Noojee to Warrigul roadtrip.
A fun surprise at GZ awaited, and soon the Hotel manager was welcoming us into the logbook.
Thanks so much, Bounty Trackers

On a day trip down in gippsland with The Welder and after a fabulous lunch at the Nooj Pub decided it was time to collect some caches as we are rarely down this part of the world. On spotting a letterbox with so many favourite points, it was an easy decision to deter and collect it as went went. A nicely executed cache. Took nothing, left nothing thanks for the cache.

Headed away this long weekend with fitzy_1965 for the Great Victorian County hunt. Our mission is to finish off Victoria.
We drove to Oxley Reserve and stayed there Friday night so that we could get an early start. LOL How we managed to sleep in, I do not know but off we set to end up in Sale for the night.
Today we managed to tick off 7 of the 14 counties I needed.
All caches were found quickly and easily unless otherwise mentioned. And thanks to all the COs who continue to help us reach our goals.

32,005. Found with minniek during our Great Victorian County Hunt this long weekend. Our aim is to finish off Victoria - minniek needing 14 and myself 7.
We left Canberra after work on Friday and stayed overnight at a familiar free camp at Oxley Reserve. By lunchtime we hit Melbourne proper then headed east and next on the list was 'Baw Baw'. This was a handy LBH cache to use to tick off the county, with a fun GZ. Quick find once at GZ. Stamped the log, replaced the cache as found, then headed off to the next cache on our list.
Thanks Bounty Trackers !!

Heading to family in Gippsland this evening, I decided to take the scenic route and search out a few caches along the way.
Having found the clever cache nearby, I continued on and stopped to find this favorited cache for this month's challenge.
Initially I didn't seem to have enough numbers, but soon nutted out how it was supposed to work.
I miscounted obviously, but knowing I was close, I went down then up, and had the lock open.
The TB in residence is a tight squeeze.
TNLNSL. All in good dry condition.

Found it. The person before us hadn’t latched the lock on correctly so we didn’t need to code, however fixed it for the next person. No travel bugs
On a trip from WA with Burns345, we travelled through Rutherglen, Mt Hotham, Bairnsdale, Moe and heading to Melbourne.
Cache found, field puzzle completed and logged our names with happiness. I wish I could give you more FPs!

TFTC - Returning from Melbourne to East Gippsland and visited the Travel Bug Hotel and picked up a Travel Bug - I’ll take it up to the Rutherglen Mega over Easter 2023.
Due to unforeseen circumstances Mr Smokey Bear will no longer be a part of Team Smokey Bear and will continue his adventures as "SmokeyBearOG".
So I'm relogging all previous finds under my new account.
Unfortunately this log will not show the original logging date.

I found this cache during a week in Melbourne with a mate.
I enjoyed the process of unlocking the letterbox. Simple yet effective point of difference from a majority of standard caches.

Found with gwd.aussie while in the area to attend an event. gwd.aussie had previoulsy found but it was a while back (2014) so not a lot of help there. We worked through the requirements to access the log but initially had issues - rechecking we quickly worked out what we had done wrong.
Thanks Bounty Trackers

We soon found the cache location and began to work through the clues to access the cache. After a short bit of confusion Mrs SKI came up with the required information. A favourite for a well-crafted cache.
Took TB.
It has been quite some time since we have been out caching, but Rebel's Community Celebration Event on offer was the impetus we needed to get back out there. We were first to arrive at the event, but then a steady stream of cachers from locals to those from Melbourne. Its always good to meet new cachers and put faces to names we have come across as well as share stories.
The event went considerably longer than scheduled, but around lunch time we headed off to find some caches in the local area that we had not found or missed in the past.
It was a mixed bag with a number of DNF's early on making us think we had 'lost it", but then we came on song and made a number of finds. Some great hides and a number of favourites awarded.
Thank you for your efforts in creating and maintaining the cache Bounty Trackers.

This was a fun themed cache and we enjoyed working it out. Handy having the tubing on the section of the fence. A nice use of materials to open the lock. TFTC, a fav of ours.
It's the first full day hanging out with Big Matt, cruising around seemingly random bits of outer Melbourne and beyond ahead of the [Whittlesea Mega-Event](https://coord.info/GC8EW40). I've been reasonably ignorant about the plan, and given I'm also the least familiar with the area, I'm not driving, so willingly along for the ride.
Heading into Warragul, we had a lot of options, aside from strictly the bare necessities of the run sheet. We both mooted the idea of checking out a tiny town to the north where we both know an author and filmmaker we respect for a while. But ultimately, me scrolling around the geocaching map saw a few highly favourites geocaches that sounded well worth the time to detour and check out. This was the first such.
Blindly following Google Maps got us to the right location, and Matt parked next to the steep slope. It was hard to even get out of the car. But when I did, I scurried directly up towards GZ. He strolled around.
At GZ an interesting escape-room-esque puzzle confronted us. I grabbed the needed bit to work through the clues while Matt operated the lock. Speedy efficiency and task splitting was on call! I counted things and called out numbers and Mat spun the wheel to get the lock open within a minute (and I believe on our first try).
Everything inside in good condition, so the logbook was signed, the manager was greeted and a trackable was grabbed for more adventures. We reset as found at about 15:10 and both descended the easy way back to the car. This is the genuine kind of field puzzle I love. Well worth the detour and stop for. Thank you for this enjoyable geocache, Bounty Trackers

Woop woop - today is the day I get braces off arms (broken arm / thumb) after 6 weeks. One has to stay on but one came off so still celebrating. Obviously driving and out geocaching, mainly to hopefully avenge some DNF's in this area and some others on the way.
That was another unique hide today. thanks for the cache. _I took a trackable will pass it on as soon as I can cheers

Well... what can I say. I found it. It was cold wet and muddy and after getting up to the cache (which was not easy for me) and opening it (and fighting through my spider phobia) there was no travel bugs. I was very disappointed.
Just leaving a note for those who have mobility issues or crappy leg joints. Getting up is fine its the getting down that's the problem so think before you attempt it.

Found with Gnome5580 who made the climb only to be very disappointed that there were no TBs whatsoever for her troubles also no stamp... strange for a letterbox cache anyway TFTC!
Thanks for a fun letterbox hide, bit of a climb, but so fun.
Picked up geocoin to take to its next adventure.

Was nearby and decided to stop by to check this one out (check in?). Thought I messed up the counting but turns out I just entered the code backwards! Fixed up my mistake and jiggled the lock to open the letterbox.
Took a GeoKrety that was keen to travel to beaches since I'm on my way back to Melbourne.

What a great letterbox cache! I had fun opening this one and did a big TB swap, dropping off a couple that I’ve had for a while (including a Geokrety) and grabbed a bunch to move on as we’re about to embark on some caching holidays soon. Thanks Bounty Trackers, a favourite for us

Dropped keys over the fence everywhere, adding to the difficulty by reaching through barbed ( And possibly electrified) wire. Eventually got access to the cache. Took me about 20 minutes to do all this !

After an early morning parkrun in Traralgon, day1976 and I headed towards home at a very casual pace, picking up a handful of select caches along the way.
Always nice to find a well setup letterbox cache. This is certainly one of the better ones. A TB Hotel as well. Day added a couple of TB's and off we went again.
Many thanks to Bounty Trackers for the cache. TNLN.

Pulled up nearby with ahomburg. I'm having trouble with sciatica this week, so clambering up the bank wasn't easy. Finally got to GZ and got lucky first time with the requirement to open the cache. Then I realized it was a TB hotel and of course my TBs are in my caching bag - back in the car! So another clamber down and then back up the bank while ahomburg signed the log for both of us. Dropped off two TBs to continue their journey. TFTC, good construction. A FAV point.
I love this idea. At first I thought it was a trick then I knew it! I got pretty lucky. Don't worry it's in there. You'll get it eventually. Ha haaaa... Nice one C.O.
A day out with the Canberra Mega Crew resulted in a few finds in the area. We had a great day with not enough singing, only one cool hat and a lot of awesome caches! Lucky we found the correct item on the first try! Thanks for placing the cache Bounty Trackers.

We had fun at this cache, gaining entry at our 6th attempt of the field puzzle. We signed the log book and then replaced as found but first we carried out a Trackable Exchange. We dropped off the Dirk Miles - Sara: The FLASH - Travel Bug Dog Tag, the Inselhopser Travel Bug, the Cool Penguin Travel Bug and Florida to Thailand Travel Bug Race! Trackable - and we picked up the Wasser des Lebens Travel Bug, the "Raychikhinsk, Russia" Unite for Diabetes Travel Bug, the PINK RIBBON OF SUPPORT 1 Travel Bug and the Ampelmännchen Stehen Travel Bug. We also discovered the I've Been Everywhere, man Travel Bug, the TINCUP Trackable, the Community Volunteers Tag, the Generation Nature Trackable, the Miniwolf Travel Bug, the ScouterBill174's Rubber Duck Racing Bug, the Green Beetle Travel Bug, the Sven's Travel Lizard Geocoin - the oil truck, the "West Branch Downie River (CA)" Red Jeep Travel Bug and the Cradick Traveller Travel Bug. Thanks so much for the well stocked and well designed Travel Bug Hotel and greetings from Zimbabwe
This is a busy busy area around dawn. Not just from the cars passing, but the bikes and people walking there dogs.

We were coming back from Trarlgon after delivering some fireworks equipment for tomorrow night and the rain had finally stopped so we decided to make a slight detour to pick up three caches while we had the chance.
Another cache type that we enjoy is letterbox's so we headed off to this one hoping that the field puzzle wouldn't be too difficult. We parked the car and headed off to gz where we spotted something immediately and once we had that in hand we knew what was we required and we really hoped that the rain would hold off.
We would love to say that we worked the puzzle out the first time but that would be so far from the truth it's not funny.
Once we got our hands on the container we were surprised by the number of tB's in it but being as safe as what it is that shouldn't have been a surprise.
We swapped 2 TB's for 2 others and will discover the rest.
Many thanks Bounty Trackers for the fantastic hide, adding another favourite point.

Interestingly geocaching has caused us to learn the skills required to open locks without a key. However in this case the choice was not too hard so there was no need to resort to any special techniques.

With the Mega now over it was time for one of the FurfacesLL team to return home for work and the other one to soldier on with Rapidlywild. Also visiting friends around the area on the down days when RW was busy.
Time to head home after a week of the weather not really on our side. Not to worry I am sure we will return here again sooner or later.
Got to love these ones. We had no TB's to drop off as they all ended up at the Mega.
Thanks for the hide Bounty Trackers and thanks to Rapidlywild for the company and caching adventure.

The Mega had been and gone however myself and FFLL#1 were staying on for another week with some other commitments. I had a charity Gala dinner to attend to on the Saturday following the Mega so it only made sense to stay on in Victoria. We were staying out Gippsland way so we had targeted Robot Charli and a couple other series to do, however the weather decided to go against us and we did not get all that were planned. It doesnt matter, we still got a fair few done in the time we were here. Once it was time to start heading home, we went via Albury to pick up some more puzzles of which we had solved.
Well this brings back memories.... I have one similar I was fortunate and had it open on the second try, signed and grabbed 2 TB's to bring to the ACT with me.
Thanks for the cache hide Bounty Trackers and the ladies of FurfacesLL for another great caching adventure away from home
