This was an interesting little place. But I have to be entirely honest, it really didn't compare to where MattyRx and I had just been. You'd know what I'm talking about as I've seen on Geocaching Australia that you have been to South Solitary Island almost exactly 10 years before us today. How amazing is it out there, hey! Wow, what an adventure!
Yes, as we'd seen in previous logs, the paper was quite wet. Whilst MattyRx went off to get a removal tool and some new paper, I used a stick to remove the contents and my pinky finger to clean the thread inside... which for a brief moment got stuck inside. I'm a weirdo, but aren't most geocachers. haha. I also got my fingernail into the lid thread and gave it a good clean in the hope that all this cleaning would reduce the amount of fluid creeping in through it. The seal was still in tact but was about ready to break and obviously not doing it's job. Fingers crossed it's all good to go for some time now.
Thanks for this very clever find that had had going in circles for a little bit.

It was really cool to find this bunker. We had a quick squizz inside, but it was pretty dark and we couldn't see too much. After searching for a while, we eventually found the sneaky little cache. Log was quite wet, so we replaced it with a new sheet and cleaned off the container - hoping that the seal may be better now and keep the water out.
This place is very deserving of a cache - not everyday you stumble across a hidden bunker!
Appreciate you hiding this one!

We found this cache while out caching before heading back to our accomodation. Had a great morning finding some great caches throughout Coffs Harbour.
We saw this DT and favourites and decided to come check it out, quick find once images were checked but dad had to go get some pliers to open the tube, in severe need of some maintenance… Log is a literally spitball, looks like it’s been, burnt?
Thanks for placing this cache earthly65

We were given a few hours to go caching before Mothers Day lunch today. Still on the lookout for those favourite caches for the challenge, but generally just having fun.
We’ve been glad the weather man was off target so far this weekend, and the weather has been great….
Cool spot…. The cache is wet, seized and gross though…. I’ll ask a reviewer to consider it.

This cache is in need of owner attention - see found logs dating back to September 2022.
The log is wet and full, meaning future seekers cannot record their visit. A fresh log would be much appreciated.

Perfect weather for an afternoon to seek out a few caches in Coffs. After reading the cache notes we ventured in! As others have said the cache is sodden, we managed to squeeze a dry scrap in as a very temporay fix.
Thanks to earthly65 for adding this cache to the gameboard.

Attempted this one last year when I was here with no luck but today after much searching was able to locate it. Then it took tiny fingers to extract the log which was soaked. So dried the log as much as possible and signed the log before replacing back in its hide hole. Thanks Team for this cache.
We came back to take our dog down the four wheel drive track and I thought we might as well have another look so we went back and we looked outside the bunker because last time we were looking inside and we found it tftc great camouflage
Searched for best part of 40 minutes to no avail. Didn't go in the bunker, too scared!
Quite a muddy walk in from the road but soon found ourselves on top of this hidden relic and noticed the side door was wide open. Had a quick look inside out of interest, not much to see besides some rubbish and evidence of a fire.
We located the cache quickly however it is in poor shape and needs some TLC. We put in a scrap piece of paper but it won't be long until that also becomes mush.
Thanks for the cache

Thanks to the previous finder Alfie, chippymick and I went back out and after a little bit of fossicking cache was finally in our hands.
Great bunker....pity about the state if it

Had a little help from a friend, found it but no log to sign so I’ll send a picture of the cache as proof of find, love the old bunker it’s a shame to see it so run down though
Found tyftc. On a freedom journey to Coffs SEP 2021 find#25/3028. Couldn't sign log sheet as too wet and broken. Cache lid on the ground.
Awesome cache and fascinating piece of history thank you Earthly65 and Robbieracer66 for all of you passion and care for our game
Checked in here today...blissbaby's description of difficulty of access to cache is spot on......we will be rectifying this..meantime...a pair of pliers required to access log
After a few dnfs here, for Some reason I decided to have another crack at this one this evening for the souvineer on offer this weekend.
I work close by so it has been aggravating me for a while that I didn't have the smiley. Its a fairly unattractive place to be on your own these days, lots of trash around, the bunker lock has been broken again too.
I was fairly sure of what I was looking for but that assumption was wrong. Lol, I looked around from a different perspective and spotted something not quite right near to where I was standing and yes! found the container. It was a very messy business getting to the log sheet, had to go back to the car for more tott, finally had the lid off then the paper was too wet to sign, I persevered until I put a hole in it then replaced the log sheet instead.
As so often with an earthly 65 cache its been an interesting journey to claim this find. Thank you.
Now tonfind somejwere to wash my hands , sanitiser isnt going to cut it this time.

An interesting location but just as I got there the rain started coming down, so I only had a chance for a 5 or so minute look and I couldn’t spot anything cache like. There’s always next time
Visiting family in Coffs with goingplaces2 and wanting to add some yellow smileys to the map. Enjoyed the hunt, signed logs and had a good day. This cache was one of the finds. It took some very careful searching to locate this little blighter. TFTC.
**PLEASE NOTE CACHERS...CACHE IS NOT INSIDE THE BUNKER!!...that would require a much higher terrain difficulty rating...it is very interesting to go down inside but not doable for all cachers so cache is not down thereplease take care if u dare to venture down there
thanks teamdfl for the heads up regarding state of log..right in the rain log installed as suggested...happy caching
I wheeled the bike in from the road to keep it out of sight and safe. A nice tree near the bunker made a good parking spot. The tree cover here made the GPSr bounce, but I was pretty certain of the general direction I needed to go.
The lowest number I got was 5m, which is pretty good at the best of times, so I thought about where a cache could be. The terrain rating suggested something to me, so I set about looking there and sure enough there was the cache, if not quite where I thought.
The log was totally soaked, so I could not sign it. Maybe some of that plastic paper would be best here.
A favourite point for the location, and the hide.

Found geocahce, as description says, be careful of lose barbed wire along fence
Goodness said the imagination on seeing the first entry! Well, guess it’s a fairly high D/T and with wandering co-ords a few scenarios were to be considered. Eventually that devious little number stared at me. Whooppee. Took a photo as it was too wet to dislodged and sign. TFTC
Sneaky little micro - first one I’ve done of its kind but log is soaking wet, the location is awesome though & I admire the lengths that have been taken to do this.
We went with twista747 this morning on a hunt for this cache. Having received a hint from another cacher made this a much easier job than it might have been otherwise. It was still an interesting find and a more detailed inspection of the interior of the bunker was always going to happen. No problem with access as the door was already open. After locating the container both names were added to the log, but a tool was needed to extract the log from the container.
Many thanks to earthly65 and robbieracer66 for this fun and challenging cache hide.

We had great fun going up and down the ladder and looking around inside this old bunker. We have done a geocache at another bunker very similar to this one in New South Wales on the south coast. I the bunker was full of moths and also a beautiful echidna . We looked in so many places, but sadly no luck for us today. Next time we are in Coffs Harbour we will look again. Thanks for the great hiding spot.

This turned out to be an interesting one, Found GZ but appeared locked, found a second entrance an used that instead. Geo partner said no way, so while I was looking around Geo partner strolls in ?? apparently you could use the main entrance. After a search and starting to think this was our first DNF for the day we had a bit a re think and rechecked the where we thought GZ was and soon had the Cache in hand. A sneaky hide but the log is wet signed best we could .TFTC
We've come north to escape the miserable Victorian winter, and Coffs Harbour you have certainly not let us down. A week of beautiful sunshine and warmth and some caches thrown in for good measure.
We took the path less travelled into this one, and lucky for us as we approached GZ and prepared to look there it was in front of us.
The log is a bit damp but we were able to remove it with a very small stick and sign it.
We took the path more travelled on the way out smiling at how easy a D4 can be...... If you are lucky!

Looking for good DT while staying in the area we earmarked this one not only for the hope of finding the cache but to satisfy our curiosity in exploring the bunker. Well we were very impressed with our surroundings as we beamed our torch around the empty room but cringed at the thought of finding a D4 here when we have been struggling with the CO's D1.5's for the last 2 days! As a last resort we tried a different perspective after we had exhausted all other avenues and we are grateful to say that the sneaky hide was then found...phew!!!! The log is worse for wear but we managed to get our team name on there with a waterproof pen.
Thanks earthly65 for the great experience...a favourite point rewarded for the hide and showing us another piece of Coff's history.

Nice little hiding spot how ever it is really water damaged didn't have any paper to replace
This was the first cache of this afternoon's e65 and rr66 triple.
After the obligatory climb down into the bunker, the search and being mauled by mosquitoes began in earnest. After about 15 minutes with no luck it was time to read some past logs for a few clues. Not too long after that help and geowife putting on her glasses the cache was found.
A favourite was awarded for the interesting location. Thanks for bringing us here. The log is very damp and may need replacing.

Catching up with my logging. Sorry to be logging late - that is not like me.
I don't know why this doesn't have more visitors. It's a great cache drawing our attention to some history in the local area and something you'd never know existed without the cache bringing you here. We'll happily award it a favourite point to assist in it getting more attention.
Thanks earthly65 for the cache, for it's tricky hide, for the satisfaction we felt in finding it, and for bringing us here. Cheers and happy caching!

Find No: 5304. Visiting from Newcastle, staying in Woolgoolga, gets a favorite for the spooky experience inside via the ladder, thanks for the cache earthly65!!
What an interesting location! I think I'll have to look up some more info on this one. Cache found after about 10mins, but an excellent hide.
The bunker was a little creepy today as the locks for both steel gate and door have been "adjusted" so that the bunker is accessible. With all the news about clowns I was almost expecting to meet Pennywise at this location
Thanks for a great cache E65.

TFTC, well like many others I was all over GZ for 20 mins for no luck, I then did like many others and PAF who confirmed I was looking in the right spot. With a little guidance the cache was soon in hand. Very tricky, I must have touched and looked at it more than a few times.
Day 2 Coffs Harbour
Todays trip was south towards Sawtell. We saw some interesting places & magnificant ocean views & found some very tricky caches.
This would have to been our 4th trip to locate this cache. We had an inkling where it would be but we still had no luck so we resorted to PAF. They gave us a clue but it was not quite where we expected. Great satisfaction on at last finding this sneaky cache.

I love this Geo cashe, it took myself and some friends a few visits to try and find this beauty. The camouflage is amazing TFTC!!!
Found GZ, after searching for some time had to PAF who gave us more info about where the cache was and soon had the cache in hand.
I give this a favourite point for finding this bunker in the first place. Without some of these interesting caches we would never have know these things were here. You can drive past this bunker and have no idea that it is even there.

What can I say. I thought I'd have a look during my lunch break. I'm glad my lunch time is flexible. Today I spent one and a half hours concentrated on one spot and was still unable to see this fiendishly hidden little cache.
I sat down and read the logs from previous finders again and again. Trust your gps they all said and I did. Sent a couple of PAF requests out but never got a nibble only one to say he was busy at work.
Bummer. Back to the spot again. Rechecked all the likely spots again. Checking for fake items etc. Read the logs again. Nice spot to sit, very peaceful.
Back for another look. Fingers here and there then I more or less felt something different
Sure enough after all this time I was able to remove the container from its hiding spot. Looks so simple and innocent and you wonder how you could miss it.
Think I actually stood on it when I was getting rather adventurous
One of the most challenging caches I've found so far.
Thanks

TFTC. Even though I had to PAF to two different people and still had to look for it.
This was not my cache today. Spent around 45 minutes here before resorting to calling a previous finder who gave us where he found the cache with the FTF group around a year ago. Unfortunately we seemed to be blind even with all of this information and this slipped out of our grasps. Thanks for the history earthly65

Found with goldielover today. Had noticed this likely looking cache while in Brisbane. Made a point of heading straight to it. We arrived and set about searching the likely looking spots with not much luck. Each time I looked to where the cache was actually discovered I decided that there would be no way it would be there. But after checking all the other possibilities I thought I had better look there. With quite a detailed look I soon found it tucked away. After signing the log we decided to check out the bunker. What a great structure. We carried on to visit our friends who (being locals) did not know about this spot.
Thanks for a great cache location.
Thanks for a great cache location.
Found with stairman1 on our way to Coffs Harbour. We were lucky this only took a little under an hour to find. The rain held off long enough for a thorough search. As planes flew over and the dogs at the RSPCA protested about being locked up we hunted high and low. All of a sudden stairman1 had the container in his hand. Names in log we arrived at the car just as the heavens opened up. Thanks for bringing us to s fascinating area.
Finally after many visits and lots of hours. We finally found this one. Thought we'd go for another look after a couple of other people found it in the last few days. Surprisingly we walk straight up to it. Can't believe we missed it so many times before. Worth a look if your in the area. Tftc earthly65.

1100 GAFF4 (PAF) After looking for an hour I went to the car, fired up the laptop and checked the details (only had the coordinates till then.) Noticed that a couple of geofriends had found it in the past, so was able to contact one as he was heading overseas. Good timing. I had a vague hint, with the promise of a more clear hint if needed. "Give me another half an hour", I said. But I did call him back.
Sure enough, the coordinates are very good, but I was unable to leave a Correct Site Marker - wouldn't fit.

Something really different happened here,I didn't find it but I really enjoyed the search, now reading others I think I was looking in the wrong place, i spent most time inside thinking thats where I should be,but maybe not, anyhow I repeat,I really enjoyed it.TFTC.
Hey very well hidden extremely well hidden cache. After 1 hour of searching I gave it away. If anyone can give me a hint before I leave the area that would be much appreciated thank you. Anyway a fascinating structure indeed thanks for bringing me here
Been back twice. This time spent along time. But no luck. Some clues would be good. Or maybe its just gone
Found it!!!!! YES I FOUND IT, WOW well that's not what I said exactly @#$% and &%@# was a couple of the words said because YES I hand my HAND ON IT!!!!-many MANY times [:0]. I think I have 4 hours invested in this neck of the woods/scrub. I spent a couple of hour on the FTF hunt and was dragged away by my partner . With ticks and a leach today I wanted to get this one as I have it on watch and have a little giggle to my self when I get the notifications from others on DNFs and finds. Even climbing down- something I wouldn't think I would of done but once I called out a couple of time to see if there was a reply it seemed all clear, once in wow its clear and clear even painted freashly painted at that. Wanting this one to add to my projectGC grid on D/T. Im visiting coofs only till xmas lunch while down from Brisbane and driving to family in Newcastle for a week before heading back to coffs for a day or two before work starts again. With two WW2 bunkers in coofs planned then 2 more in Newcastle so this is going to be a very exciting caching trip. This one been the first I couldn't leave it with a third DNF a email was sent to a past finder on what leave should I be on and what I suspected I was onto it but with a little blindness, its there trust your phone or gps- each visit put me on the right spot. thanks Earthly65 a fav point from me and a grid off my chart on Project GC.
Someone asked in a log that did the Japanese really try to invade coffs harbour 'YES' they tried and
the airport was established by the Council in 1928. It was requisitioned by the Royal Australian Air Force during World War II for the purposes of an airbase for anti submarine patrols. During World War Two, many ships were lost along our coast after being attacked by Japanese submarines.
The Wollongbar was torpedoed and sunk on April 29, 1942, six miles off Crescent Head. Only five survived of a crew of thirty-seven.
On December 5, 1940, the M.V. Nimbin (1052 tons) struck a mine while steamiThe Ormiston 30th August 1941 - down the coast from Coffs Harbour and sank almost immediately. Seven of her crew were lost.
On April 12, 1943 the Ormiston (5832 tons) was torpedoed in convoy from Sydney to Brisbane but the vessel reached Coffs Harbour with no casualties. An American vessel was torpedoed near Coffs Harbour, and eighty-seven survivors were landed safely at Coffs Harbour Jetty, where they were cared for by local residents. DAMAGE TO THE HULL OF THE AUSTRALIAN MERCHANT SHIP ORMISTON AFTER BEING TORPEDOED BY A JAPANESE SUBMARINE OFF COFF'S HARBOUR ON 1943-05-12.
On May 5, 1943 the Fingal (2137 tons) was torpedoed off Solitary Island, twelve seamen losing their lives, while the Portmar (5551 tons) was also torpedoed off Coffs Harbour on June 16, 1943 with a loss of two lives.
One wonders why South Solitary Lighthouse was not destroyed by the Japanese - apparently, it was a valuable guide for them.
SO yes indeed japan wanted to land and invade from the shores of coffs harbour and the placement of these bunkers held a great hand in the ww2 effete "Less we forget"

Again its a DNF, I spent 30mins here this time and more than likely I had my hand on it. I need a push in the right way my co-ords put me on top of the bunker west end top at 3m. 1m at next tree, last time I went up and down. I have a watch still on it and ill return in a week or so unless I can get a hint today or PAF (hint I need one of them for coffs) tftc
Spent an hour searching but with no luck. Seems to me that hiding a micro in bushland which is chocked with junk and would have an infinite number of hiding places anyway is a bit difficult without clue. Did not help that the GPS would not give us any definite location - I was getting answers that varied by 20 to 30m but worked on the assumption that the cash was somewhere near the bunker. Not that this helped since that still means an area that is perhaps 15m in diameter. Will have to try another day and hope the GPS is being more helpful but I do not holdout much hope given the number of others who have fount this too difficult.
Well, after about 45 minutes we resorted to a PAF. Even then we couldn't find it before the "ah ha" moment. I had my hands pretty much ON the cache I reckon, numerous times.
Anyway, the kids had a great time climbing in and out of the bunker and were really interested in why we would build it and did the Japanese really try to invade HERE?
Cheers earthly65 and cheers from Browngang

I was down in Coffs visiting my daughter (Coucho90) and her partner (Jared86) they had the day off so we formulated a plan and headed off to caches that we all had not found yet!!!
This one had us totally beaten, we searched everywhere but in the end called it quits, may be next time!!!
I don't really like bush caches with no hint but that's why you have the D4 on it so suck it up Couchmen!!!
But while we were there I heard a noise coming from inside the bunker which I at first discounted but then it happened again and I mentioned it to the others and then again!!!
Jared86 watched the door and spotted something through the hole then it made another pass close to the hole and it was a possum!!!!
We weren't sure if it was unable to get out or not but we decided that a call to WIRES was appropriate and having done that we left!
So can we call it found a possum???? OK OK so it's a DNF!!!
Thanks Earthly65 TFTH

Brad1987 made me try and find this one by my self but I had no chance when he finally showed me the location. Very cool hidey hole. Thanks for the cache
Didn't have high hopes, and wasn't disappointed . Previous logs give the great hint of 'easy once you've found it', which is pretty much the same as most caches .
Had a good search, but had to concede. If you want to give me a hint, I'm around for a couple of days

Well my name is now in the log. Was pretty easy when it's found my another cacher. Congratulations to Sheryl who got the FTF.
Thanks earthly65 and robbieracer66 for this cache

Thanks for the cache. Massive joint FTF for all in attendance after the event cache hosted by groovydoo
Great effort by Cheryl of coongoola who located the cache, along with super effort from, pprass, earthly65, nudge74, geono ( thanks for Creeklands trail ! ), robbieracer and brad1987 who arrived afterwards.
My forehead was a bit sore after slapping it for not finding the cache 20 minutes earlier. Actually I heard a lot of head slapping going on after it was found.

Found with the aid of others a Joint FTF after en event cache organised by Groovydoo, between Coongoola, PPrass, Geono, Gummybear7, Brad1987, Groovydoo and Robbieracer66.
Coongoola had their hands on that one all the time without knowing it was there.
There was alot of head scratching later as to why we didn't look there, GZ definitely is GZ !!
Very interesting location I never knew this was here.

Found at 3:47 PM GAFF5. Well what an amazing adventure - we were shown by Coongoola where he went down in the depths, then we trampled all over GZ - each of us conveniently missing where the cache was hidden. Maybe we were all thinking that it was hidden in a much more difficult location so we were thinking really devious. We became a bit concerned about the destruction of the area and Nola even suggested that we all take it in turns I suggested that we hang earthly65 and robieracer66 upside down, down the bunker shaft until they yielded with a hint! But all I received was a nervous laugh. Eventually Cheryl from Coongoola put us out of our misery and found the cache which was not that hard to locate - but we ALL just kept on missing it - maybe it was because we thought that someone else had checked that spot?
Thanks earthly65 - even though I said no one was going to give this a favourite, we will because of the fun that we had .

There were more cachers here than you could poke a stick at but we still managed to overlook the cache hide. With earthly65 and robbieracer66 looking on and probably wondering how so many people could be so cache blind at the same time we continued feeling, poking and prodding. Nobody was leaving and nobody was finding the cache .... until MrsCoongoola finally said the magic words ......... "what's that here?!" Unbelievable! How was that missed so many times. We then did what we wanted to do all along ..... went down the bunker for a good look around. Great cache, heaps of fun and amazing history, thanks earthly65, favourite point awarded.
