Having some insurance repairs done at home, and not wanting to be stuck there with 3 young kids we decided to take a road trip instead. So me and my 8yo, 3yo and baby did some tramping and camping in the area.Found on the way out from Whariwharangi hut. Didnt wanna stop on the way in as it was too early to stop with the kids. Would have broken their stride
After so many DNF's it felt like a nice gesture to replace this one. As the other logs mention: you need to be on the high road for this one! The coords are off and the map does not match the paths. Just look for the rock next to the fence. Happy caching!
We were definitely in the right place but definitely not there. Lovely day irrespective.
Found an item matching the title and then an item matching the hint but despite a look around couldn't find it. But you've brought me to a bit of the bay I don't remember and it's just a little further up hill to a view of the spit I wanted to see for a photo for a lesson.
No waiting today. I can’t imagine this end of the track will ever get as busy as the Marahau end. Just been for a quick out and back. Starting to get hot
Found it during our walk to Taupo point. First of all we were looking at wrong place (wrong way).

Took the low road with no luck so changed tack and had success. Coords are certainly well off. Tftc
That was a nice super fast find.
Hardly anyone in the car park and only saw one person on the trail.
Cache all good, thanks!

I was not quite sure which path to be on as the reality did not align with the GPS map. I took the high road and there it was! TFTC!!
27 November 2021 10:42. Number 10430 for me. Heading back from the Earthcache, there was a high road or low road decision to be made .. the higher ground won out. Quickly found once at GZ. Ironically, just after replacing the cache after signing, we met the only walkers we encountered on the trail! TFTC.
Love the title of this cache and the view from nearby. Found after collecting sand for an earthcache. TFTC bumandworker.
Down for a long weekend, chasing PWGT caches with Itchyfeet2020 - had time for this one too!
Mobile co-ords a little wobbly, by taking high road instead of the low road, soon found.

Thanks for the advice W.E.K.A that saved us doing the same. Found easily thanks to my reading prior logs for once TFTC.
Once again a cache for which it is worthwhile reading previous logs before starting. Unfortunately we didn't. As the coordinates appeared to be closer to the lower track, we initially searched from there, without success, before heading for the higher track, where it was a quick easy find. For us the cache was about 14 metres southeast of the coordinates, at S40 48.364 E172 57.276. TFTC

A quick find here once we decided that taking the higher track was the better option. For a while there it looked like a 50/50 call. Found in the obvious spot, we will need to come back here because RG72 thinks this is the most under-rated part of the Abel Tasman. TFTC B&W.
Looked for this one on the way to the beach but after taking the high road, the GPS seemed to be pointing down the hill so decided to check out the lower road, This turned out to be wrong as it was pointing up the hill from here, did a little more reading and went back to the first place. Quick find once in the right place, TFTC.
Z11 tracked down, B13 found. Rain threatening, so we will stroll back to the car now.

This was my eighteenth find on the 5 day Abel Tasman walk. This was a nice quick find thanks to the hint, TFTC!
Found during today's geocaching tiki tour of Wainui Bay. Nice quick find before I headed up the Abel Tasman Track a little ways. Boy, my geocaching work method tripped me up AGAIN on this one. My usually reliable method involved using only 8 letter GSAK cache names, never reading the description, only reading the hint and going where the needle points. The trap today was the fork in the track 80m from GZ. The needle seemed to prefer the 'high road' so I took that. 80m later the needle pointed down a steep slope toward the 'low road' so I retraced my steps and took the 'low road' only to find that 80m later that the needle pointed up the steep slope towards the 'high road'. It was only then that I read the description and the FULL cache name. Doh! You guessed it! I had been standing right at the stile on the high road previously.[B)]
A short walk from the car park and quick find this morning. Log a little too damp to sign.
Found with a group of friends spending 12 days in Motueka and Takaka tramping and biking. A nice days walk into the hut, Separation Point (what views), Mutton Cove (its changed more than a little compared to 40 years ago) and back. TFTC
#8541. I was staying with friends in Takaka and heading back to Nelson today. But I needed to visit the Wainui sandspit so I could collect a sample of sand needed for a 5/5 Earthcache placed in Oriental Bay in Wellington (Arenophilia). What is the connection you are wondering. Well the sand for that beach in Wellington was shipped over using sand mined out in this very bay! After collecting the sand I walked back to the start of the spit and along the track. Soon realised this one was not accessible from the lower track. So up to the top track I went and on to the style. Nice quick find at GZ. Signed the log and replaced the cache as found. Thanks bumandworker for the cache.
We were in Golden Bay for the weekend, with the intention of finding a few caches each day.
It was a wet miserable sort of weather today, not GK's favourite weather for geocaching.
But at least it meant that there were not many other people around, only three cars in the carpark and one of those was DOC.
We wandered along enjoying the peace and quiet of the area, just the sound of the rain landing on the trees and the occasional bird call.
The cache was an instant find.
Thank you for placing this cache and thank you for the smiley

Day 7 of my 2020 NZE (New Zealand Experience).
(My apologies for the delayed logging but I'm in catch-up mode)
Seeing as I can't be in America right now, I'm touring around the South Island instead. During my time here I am aiming to find as many of the TMGT caches as I can (preferably all 41) and also as many Virtuals, Earthcaches and Letterbox Hybrids as possible, plus any Trads or others that will fill a hole in my D/T grid, my Jasmer grid, or else the last 3 remaining Hidden Dates on that grid.
After my huge drive of yesterday, I had planned today to be a bit more leisurely. I was delighted to get to spend some time in Takaka. It's been too long since I was last here, and I have wanted to get back here for a while to try to finish off an Earthcache I started about 2 years ago, so was using that as a great excuse to find a few others too.
What a stunning place Golden Bay is! The weather certainly helped too, as I drove from beach to beach enjoying all the scenery to be lapped up.
Having been brought here by the lure of finally getting to complete a particular Earthcache, I was happy to have a crack at finding any other caches along the way such as this one. This was a quick and easy find at GZ. With no-one around I was able to sort out the usual field caching administration and replace everything as found before carrying on my walk.
Thanks for placing this cache.

Second grab up here after dropping a friend off to walk the track. It made sense to zip up this way and grab a cache or two - especially after living in lockdown for four months overseas until recently.
Was grateful for a quick find here as the weather was starting to pack in. TFTC. Found with MrKiwiPhysics who is just starting to get back into geocaching.
Nice quick find with only our party present. Cache placed back after the sign off.
Cheers

Paddle chick and I walk though to Whariwharange hut to spend the night and get a few caches on the way .A nice easy find Thanks for this cache bumandworker
On the way to Taopo Point we could find this Cache quickly. The only thing was...we could not go to Taopo Point, because the tide was too high at that point. So this was the only Tradi we could find at our walk. TfTC =)
I walked fast along to this to keep ahead of any muggle people. It was then a quick find and sign. TFTC
Good start to our day walk on Abel Tasman Track. Not too hot today, ideal walking weather. (Note added after the walk. Rain cut our plans short!! And gales++++ )
Found as a part of a previous group TanjackMüley, now WanderingSparrow. Now I'm continuing on my own. TFTC
Passed on the way up as we had mugglers on our tail but quickly found on the way down. My map didn’t match up so I’m glad we pre read the hint otherwise we would have walked right passed. Thanks for the cache.
I can't believe it was five and a half years ago since I was last on this track with the SIS team plus KE. What a great day out that was. A shorter excursion in mind today though and this was the first one I came to - nice quick and easy too. TFTC # 14,615

We are having a relaxing weekend in the Bay and so had a gentle start to the day with a drive to Totaranui. On our way back for lunch we decided a short detour and walk were in order and this cache fitted nicely. We even chose the right track which we soon had confirmed as we approached GZ for an instant find. Our GPS also read 9m but the cache spot was obvious. We looked at the distance to the seat - but then read the logs as we did recall this was a winding track. One hour return was too much with lunch calling - another day we decided.
Thanks.
Thanks.
I was out on a 4 day walk of the Abel Tasman Track, from Marahau to Wainui. On day 3 I walked from Awaroa to Whariwharangi, but the weather was shocking, so I didn't stop to do any caches that day. Day 4 was a short walk from Whariwharangi to Wainui and I stopped to look for this cache along the way - a nice easy find at GZ. TFTC!
Our last stop for today was the wainui bay. This cache costs us a lot of time, because our GPS didn't show us the right way. Maybe the cords are not right or the connection is very bad here.
Just one hint for other cachers: You do not have to leave the way more than one meter

Its a long weekend so The Seagnoid, Zara and I are off for an adventure to Golden Bay. The Seagnoid is navigator and Zara and I pair up getting us from A to B??
Have just walked out on the spit for Wainui Sand then further along the spit for a sand sample for another cache. Now we are close to this cache and try approaching it from the bottom track through the bushes. But things get more difficult so its revert to the track and go back to the turn off and along the other track. Hey this is now easy so snagged and tagged. View obscured by trees so dont see the bay. Cheers

Taybeedragon, Zara and I are on a three day sojourn to Golden Bay, courtesy of Her Royal Highness, Queen of the Realm, Defender of the Faith and Head of the Commonwealth. Happy birthday Liz!
I have found quite a few caches along this little bit to the spit, and yet there are no little smileys on the map. Looks like they have been archived and now there is a new set to explore.
Which is a good thing. I brought the dragon here as there is some work required here for an earth cache in Wellington, and since we are here anyway...
This cache seems to be in the mid point between two tracks. There is a stile in there? Okay... We bush bashed in but a style we did not find. So we bush bashed back out and walked around to the upper track. Ah! There it is! And there's the cache!
Back at Zara we were getting organised to leave when he heard a thump on Zara's roof. Going out to investigate I saw that a heron, that had been atop an adjacent campervan had moved onto Zara (see photo). Cool!

Took the short route up the hill from the lower track should have walked a bit further to the junction, soon had in hand after scamble. TFTC
Day Four of our Abel Tasman & Heaphy through hike. The last cache for Abel Tasman. Off to Heaphy tomorrow. TFTC
Looked and looked for this one but had no joy..... did come across a family of weka though.
#8639. Great to explore this little bit of Abel Tasman National Park. The tracks and GZ were all quiet when we visited. The GPS led us to initially approach from the Taupo Point Track, but we soon decided that was the wrong way to go. Got back on the right track and then a quick find. The coordinates were about 12 metres down the bank though. The log book was somewhat damp, but writeable. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

This weekend us capperz are over the hill to Golden Bay and celebrating. It's our wedding anniversary on Friday followed by my 50th birthday on the Saturday. So we looked around for a decent place to go for the weekend and the potential of this beautiful area won out (this time). Only grabbed the one cache on the Friday night (there was much drizzly rain and poor visibility) trip over the hill(s) so there was much anticipation for what was next. Both the Saturday of my half-century milestone and the Sunday were bathed in golden sunshine and the temperature was perfect; neither too hot nor too cold.
Day 2 and a few in and around the region before we head back over the hill again. I had a plan which required me to get a sample of sand from Wainui and would be rude not to go look for the caches to the waterfall too.
First time on/at/near the Abel Tasman track, nice place. Diverted from sand collection to come and get this Q E F cache

Together with Fenz i had the pleasure to visit New Zealand. We were traveling around for quite some time and thought: Why not combine that with some geocaching! That doubled the fun and we found a lot nice places we wouldnt have, if we werent looking for the boxes invisible to the other tourists. For details on our cache finds see the logs of Fenz. We want to thank all the owners for their effort, the nice hides and the fun we had on our journey! Definitely gonna come back to you Kiwis, greetings from the other end of the world, keep it on!
Heading out for a bit of a drive with our friends and we stopped by a few spots: a local gallery, Tata Beach, Wainui and a few other spots.
Ha ha, nice cache. I was thirty metres away as the cachelets plowed ahead to score the cache. Not too busy today. Lovely views.
Thanks for the cache bumandworker.

They have done magor road woks and moved the shelter to where the stile used to be. No we did not find !!!!!!
Pretty sure I have used the style at least once in my travels, albeit a long time ago.
Today was about caching, not tramping. So GZ was our turn around point and we continued on to Totaranui picking up more smilies on the way. Thank you bumandworker
Although the carpark was near full when we arrived at the start of the track we were lucky enough to be here when the vehicle occupants were beyond this point. Hazedarus led from the front here and can claim all credit.
Thank you bumandworker.

We enjoyed a lovely walk to Taupo Point today. Spent a while looking for the hint item in the wrong track before getting ourselves in the right place.
We spent 4 incredibly wonderful weeks in New Zealand for vacation and
had a lot of fun to discover all the marvels of this country.
Day 21 - we hiked the northern part of the Abel Tasman Coast Track until Totaranui and back over Gibbs Hill.
It was pretty exhausting up the steep hill, but the views breathtaking and worth the effort.
Another brillant walking day in NZ!
Besides we still found time for geocaching and picked up quite a few caches on our way.

From 19th February to 20th March Stadibast and I visited New Zealand. Half of the time we made a trip around the North-Island. After a short stay in Auckland we went to: Bay of Islands, Cape Reinga, Rotorua and the Wai-o-Tapu-Thermal Wonderland, the great Taupo-lake… We made a Rafting Tour in the Waitomo-Glowworm-caves or hiked the Tongariro–Alpine-Crossing and, and…
In the second part of our holidays we visited the south island, hiked in the Abel-Tasman-Reserve , went to the Marlborough-Sounds, the Golden Bay, the Oparara-Arch, the Franz-Josef- and Fox-Glaciers, had a great sight on Mt. Cook and Mt. Tasman, relaxed at the Wanaka- and Hawea-Lakes,….
New Zealand is a very amazing country and with exceptional natural sites. We are very impressed of these great nature monuments and sights and we are happy that we met so much friendly and helpful people.
This day we made a Trekking tour from Wainui, along Whariwharangi-, Mutton- and Anapai-Bay and back over Gibbs-Hill Trail.
Quick find.
Greetings from Germany.

On our way to the Bay for the weekend.
Got to our accommodation at Tata to find that we were a bit early.
Must be time for a few more caches - Bother.
Enjoyed the short walk. Didn't use the stile, or the swing gate at the start of the track either.
No muggles seen today, which was good.

We're not always good at doing the preparation bit before we set out for a cache but this time we did and it paid off. Approaching GZ we ignored our GPSs and went straight for the find. TFTC .
NZDi and I have been planning a long weekend in Golden Bay for a month or so and today these plans came into fruition. Of course a long weekend out of town would not be complete without the odd cache thrown in and so a few caches were planned along the way. The weather back in Blenheim had been crap all week and the forecast for the weekend was not that flash either, however as soon as we got across the Whangamoa's we could see this part of the country was bathed in sunshine.
This was our 17th and final find of the day and was a short detour on the way back from our unsuccessful effort on Wainui Sand. As the CO said, I find it hard to imagine this stile ever being used again.

Took the wrong track, which ended up being the right track, but the right track seemed to be the less traveled track as I had a good few minutes to search around the stile and soon found the cache nicely tucked away.
Log signed, cache replaced and back down the right wrong track to take the right track to the beach..

Started off on the wrong track but soon decided to try the other. Even then the GPS said we were 10m away when standing on top of the style. Mrs KE decided she would do a bit of book reading while I walked up to the next one.

A quick find by Alastair on our way back from "Cigarette Saddle". We then got in to discussing how long ago the gate disappeared, neither of us could really remember so we called that one a draw. Cheers and TFTC
Last day on the Abel Tasman Coastal Trek. Happy to be more or less alone on this section we were also happy to find some more caches than on the first days. After a short sidetrip to another cache on the small peninsula we tried to find this cache. It wasnt easy, due to the vegetation, but when we reached GZ it was an easy found.
Staying for a couple of days in the Bay and today was my caching day. Back to walking mode on the way to the seat and back. Coast was clear at the stile today so the cache was quickly found. TFTC, Biggles.
#8467. Looking at the map on my GPSr it looked like the cache was on the lower track. Once we realised it wasn't we carried on to Wainui Sand. Much later (post long bush bash) we were back, and took a side trip on the upper track. I think the coords are a wee way out, but the cache name gives away the location so we had no problems finding it. TFTC.
Day #2 of our Labour weekend trip to Golden Bay, our first visit for many years. We had another great day exploring the area, letting geocaches be our tour guide. Many thanks to all the COs for their hides and for taking us to some fabulous spots.
We initially thought that this was on the lower track, but soon realised our mistake. After our mammoth effort with Wainui Sand, there was just enough gas left in the tank to make the short detour to this cache. Surprised to be the second names in the log book. TFTC.
