We walked down the path from the previous cache and managed to catch up with the father and his tiny son we had waited for previously. We have them time to leave again and started the search. Despite checking a a few obvious places, and some not so obvious ones, we could not find the cache today. We will have to come back for this one another day.
Looked hard but could not find it. Seems like a little while since it was found.
BYOP! Had to look inconspicuous as two muggles walked around the corner hahaha awesome hiding spot!
My first geo-outing for 2019.
What do you do to blow away a few alcohol-related cobwebs after a terrific New Year's Eve? Go for a walk around the Tahuna Torea reserve and Glendowie Spit with your Muggle partner!
The weather was dry but moody today, which made for nicer walking conditions but not so great for photography.
We had already walked right out to the end of the spit itself, and were now walking along the beach towards Roberta Reserve before stopping to try to find this cache. GZ appeared to be not far from the pathway, so my long suffering partner was abandoned for a minute or two for me to quickly hunt this one down. An easy find, and no issues with completing the appropriate caching administration before returning it all as found to its hidey hole. I dropped a TB into it that I had been carrying around for a few weeks.
Thank you for placing this cache, and hope 2019 is a great year for you.

Very nice, except the muggle who looked at me oddly as I emerged. These muggles are creepy
GPS spot on for once. Enjoyed the walk though the hill was a bit of a challenge.. Nice quick find. Excellent hint.
Continuing along here in the dark, followed the easy walkway to GZ, while enjoying the nice pleasant evening. Quick find of cache with my torch, emptied out the water and soon replaced as found, cheers
In the area to watch a college cricket match, wandered over here in the lunch break. A few passing muggles, had to time my search. Instinct pointed one way, GPS another. Instinct failed, GPS was correct on the day. After a while. Nice hide, and spotted the TB fish but left it to enjoy the sea a bit more. Back to the cricket. TFTC
Another one found by Ambam145! 3 from three. Give the rest of us a chance aye?
Found by miss 9 after a second look. Log totally full but added an extra page of weatherproof paper so its good to go for a bit. Tftc!
Not our most successful day geocaching only two finds & three DNFs.
This however was a nice quick find.

Out collecting a few more caches today and quickly came across this one.a bit damp inside but log is ok as im guessing waterproof although the other peice of paper is very soggy.a great view.
Tricky tricky. Got confused as to which place but after an expanded search it was found quickly.
Tricky with the red herring close by. Found this with michaelteacher's parents wondering what we get up to. Tftc
Quiet serene spot. Paper was wet and hard to write on...so signed it lightly. Tftc.
Son had an appointment out this way so took the opportunity to pick up a few caches. Rather wet underfoot and this cacher ended up going for a bit of a slide. Thankful that there was a cache find at the end of this. TFTC
This was the last cache Bertie and I could grab before we had to return the way we came. Being on the edge of a bird reserve with 6 geohounds meant it was time to cache somewhere else. Would love to explore this reserve later without them one day.....thanks G--2
Out and about on the other side of town, with Pazzabella and the geodogs...and whaddya we find? a G-2 cache! ...my goodness but he does get around! tftc:-)
I was trying to fit in a few caches before yet more rain hit. It was very wet and muddy on approach but a nice easy find. Log book is full but managed to squeeze my name in a space
Took a stroll down here and managed to pick this one up between muggles. Nice and easy find here once we cleared the two snails that had decided to hang out in the same spot. Log is getting pretty full and unfortunately I didn't have a replacement with me. Thanks for the cache.
Had to have a couple of bites at this one - we got far too distracted by the wall.
Found it a few meters off GZ but still no problem. No more entries in logbook possible. Added a small sheet of paper.

Out for a walk with nana and after a few false starts I saw a most likely place and sent Mr 7 in to retrieve. A lovely spot I spent a lot of time here as a child. TFTC
Another find for mr7 with a little direction from dad. Have picked up the trackable and dropped off one we picked up in Rotorua tftc. Lovely area
Our last find of the day after a walk to the end of the spit and back.
We had passed this one earlier but abandoned the search due to a large group of muggles exercising on the nearby stairs, however the coast was now clear.
The rock and hard place were eventually identified after a brief search in the wrong place due to us assuming where it might be without checking the co-ordinates properly.
We have uplifted the Travel Bug to help it continue on its journey

Out for a walk around the coastline today picking up a few caches along the way.
A quick find.

Quick find by Master M using his special geocaching stick that he found on our walk around the reserve. TFTC
Lycurgon and I met up with Anastriel for a catch up and decided to grab some caches while we were at it, TFTC
Decided to get a few caches today with Reveurs and Anastriel. Didn't take too long to find it. My 900th cache. TFTC.
Satellites must have been away for lunch at 1 pm as I was looking in wrong place. Came back at 3 pm and located cache quickly

starting to come to the conclusion that the satellites over NZ are also on labour weekend holiday, even with the GPS it had us lurching around all over the GZ, so it was a case of resort to what is not so obvious as the thing you think it must be... and sure enough that was a clever way to go .. although we thought the hard place was quite a bit softer then the rock it was behind?
One Sunny Sunday afternoon, Mrs NewlynFam and I were keen to go and find some new geocaching territory to explore. And so after a bit of a confab between ourselves, we twisted Mr NewlynFam to come along as well, which is how we came to the Tahuna Torea Nature Reserve. None of us had ever been here before. Now it turned out that Mr NewlynFam is more of a plane spotter than a geocacher. So because of this, our adventure actually became a bit of a combo event, with Mrs NewlynFam and I finding the caches, while we were getting a commentary at the same time by Mr NewlynFam as to what flights with what airline were passing overhead. And of course, whenever any Muggles were close by, I either just said 'hello', or else we all pretended to simply be catching Pokemon. Which was funny until we saw people actually trying to catch Pokemon. When it came to finding this particular cache, because of your clear instructions it only confirmed to us that the cache was indeed stuck between a rock and a hard place! Thank you for taking the time to set this cache up. I really appreciated it! Awesome!
Out for the afternoon to do a bit of geocaching with Sherlock the Puppy, one of my caching buddies, and as a pleasant surprise, Mr NewlynFam was easily persuaded to come along- yay!!!
As it was a beautiful winters' day, we decided to hit the spit.... lol.... as it wasn't too far from where we were at the time, and none of us had been there before... oh, and there were a few geocaches there to tempt us, of course!!!
As we approached GZ, it appeared that there were a couple of possibilities.... but of course, it pays to follow the coordinates instead of your nose and your "that looks like a likely spot"-type thoughts..... because once you do, you are taken straight to the cache, of course!

Out and about enjoying a sunny Sunday exploring new areas. Enjoyed the walk out here. Made a pretty quick find. SL. TFTC.
Lovely area for a walk this morning. Left a cute frog TB who is hopping from cache to cache. TFTC!
Decided to head here after work, working on Whitehaven rd, Glendowie, so this series of caches quite close by.
When I came here, I decided to use the mobile just for practice to navigate to the cache, I normally never use it, I always use my far more accurate GPS. Well, today I navigated here and I hopped onto the beach and what do I see? I see a couple getting rather romantic inside a sleeping bag laying on the sand! They must have spotted me first before I spotted them, since I could hear sniggers from them which alerted me to their presence. Needless to say, I was outta there! My mobile sent me from 3m to 45m, so I realised the bloody useless thing was unreliable and so I switched on the GPS and I was at GZ in seconds. Good hint too and I signed myself in.

We were enjoying this beautiful area for a little stroll today, along with some other muggles in the area. There was one near to this cache making us of the stairs as part of his exercise regime (in this heat?!), so we had to wait for him to disappear before we could make this grab. A straightforward find. Thanks for the hide!
Meeting up again today with some friends who are keen to particpate in the sport of geocaching , having accompanied us yesterday. Lovely wander along the path with a successful find by one of the newly introduced children. Smiles all round. New GCers also signed as Dobbie 04 ( yet to formalise their name ) . TFTC. Dropped TB
We planned to have a walk on the reserve area. This was the first find on our route.
Thanks for the cache!
Thanks for the cache!
Spent a hot summers day with yorkshirekiwi83 caching around the Glendowie area. A quick find while taking a nice stroll around Tahuna Torea Nature Reserve and the sand spit. TFTC!

We needed a few more caches to achieve our goal of 100 caches/month for the year.
It was such a lovely day we decided a nice bike ride around the park would work off a bit of the Christmas food and drinks as well as satisfy our caching requirement. We loaded our bikes onto the back of the car and headed to this park. As we were unloading our bikes we saw the sign saying no biking allowed, we had seen previous logs mention biking so had assumed that we would be OK.
It seemed a shame not to attempt these caches and as Mrs NZT's knee had been playing up she would have not been up for the walk, we carried on with our bikes and did in fact met a couple of others cycling here as well.
Carrying on our biking we ended up at this cache and I think this area was OK for biking. We dismounted and Miss NZT made the find and recovery for us while Mr NZT signed the log.

I have riden past on my bike numerous times, and today decided to have a look around the nature reserve. A nice quick find.

I think that the place on the side of the cache other than the rock is actually less hard than the rock. I don't have a point here, I just found the cache.
Thanks for the cache! Greetings from Latvia!

This one could not hide long from kaitaingeo and me, so we got out the little log and signed our first geocache in New Zealand... Well, it was my first at least.

It's me again! So bringing the kiddies here for a jungle bash. & not to mention the odd client for personal training. Hardcase I spotted a soft dimpled looking dog toy?? there amongst the trees, then I thought... Hmm that can't be G-2's new tactic? Turned out it was the wrong location. Pah! Leg slap chuckle chuckle. Thanks for bringing me here.
Songs from the birds are beautiful as you sit, log and contemplate.

This was the start of a MEGA caching weekend in the company of good caching buddies. At this point in the trip 11HPG11 and I had a few hours to kill in Auckland before our flight so quite rightly we concluded that a little bit of caching practice would be what is required prior to meeting up with HKCB in Christchurch for the real deal.
I had spotted these caches out and along here a while ago and so it seemed only right to make a bit of a go with them now.
We parked at an approprite spot and began the walk along the spit, thankfully all the nearby muggles were engaged in muggle type activites adn so left us all alone resulting in a nice an d quick find without issue
As always I enjoy the Co's hides, although they can be frustrating at times
thanks for the placement, thanks for the cache

Heading down to Chch Mega with Cats&Dragons. Had a few hours to kill in Auckland before the flight so what were we to do?!? Cache of course, great practise for a long weekend of caching. This spot was a new place for me and I thoroughly enjoyed the walk along here. Great for families and kids.
One of those clever ones that muggles don't notice but cachers can spot a mile away. We both noticed it as we approached and thankfully our instincts were on fine form and there was a cache to be found. Thanks

With all the rain in the last month, the ground is pretty soaked around here. No worries for the cache though, it's all nice and dry, TFTC
The beginning of a nice walk for me. A quick and easy find, cheers.
Had a couple of days in Auckland while Ms KR was in a conference, so what todo? CACHE! Found many parks never before visited.
Thanks for effort put your hides.

Walking back to the car from Tahuna Lookout we decided to stop Between a Rock and a Hard place to make one more find. Quick find, thanks.
Found fairly quickly by one of our enthusiastic cache finding children. TFTC!!
Needed a nice walk and thought this would be a good area to get some caches at the same time. Easy find once the muggles moved on. TFTC.
