Spotted the trough as we drove towards the corner. Parked up as safely as we could. Then the debate was on about the safest/easiest way to access without losing shoes in the mud. Highly recommend gumboots for this one! Managed to get to it without too much mud on the shoes. cache was easy to grab once at the trough. SL. TNLN. Replaced as found. TFTC! Then another mission to get back to the car without slipping in the mud or losing any shoes...!

#13,082. Park, walk and grab on Tarata Road in Kaimata. Fortunately, the road and GZ were all quiet at the time of our visit. Took a bit of searching to even locate the horse trough. Quite well camouflaged. Once located, the cache was a relatively quick find. We had widened the search for the trough, but the GPS reading was just 4 metres at the hide … after settling down. The cache was in good condition, all nice and dry inside.
Took QRP bug and Alvin the Alligator
Left nothing, signed log.
Thanks for the placement, and for bringing us to this site, and …

stopped off for this one but know luck like others even used the hint but me thinks it maybe gone walkies, had to avoid a lot of logging trucks using the saddle road today.
geocache owner may need to check up on this cache it may have gone missing looked for this one for over half an hour under every weed but no cache.
Teamed up with Cats&Dragons, for an overnight mission down the West Coast focusing in and around Hawera. It's been awhile since we've done a trip like this and it was great to be out finding caches again. We left Hamilton at 7pm Friday night and returned midnight Saturday, with only a few hours of sleep needed we managed 116 finds for the trip. A big thanks to all the cache owners for their placements.
Had a quick look here but like others no luck today.

Poked around for quite a while trying to find this cache. Another day maybe.
Really really muddy and a little creek to jump over do not recommend to do in wet weather
Out for a tour with the family to grab some backcountry caches. At this time of the year there was far too much vegetation to see any Horse trough though we had a good look. Back another time.
A sunny (but not warm day) so decided to drive to Tarata, just because I have never been there (and there are caches). I parked where I could and reluctantly headed to where I thought GZ was. But then I noticed something in a far more accessible location. Thanks for the cache.

Quick trip away with woolwood9, we soon had the cache found.
As mentioned the log was soaked so we left a replacement logsheet and bag.
I always enjoy visiting relics like this one.

Driving past gz towards Tarata I looked at thought...where? Pulled over and wandered down. Oh there! Pretty cool. Enjoyed this. Tftc
I have set myself a goal to get the requirements for the mystery cache The well-rounded cacher challenge (Manawatu) So each time I go out caching weather it is by myself or with fellow cacher I will try to get a least one cache that will get me closer to my goal.
After getting the two caches that I had targeted for the day it was time to go and get some other caches in the area and this was my first choice to go and try to find I park up the road slightly and began walking back to ground zero as I got closer I heard what sounded a wild pig in the brush up ahead it got wind of me and took off so I was unable to be sure if it was a wild pig.
Interesting Como
Thanks for the cache

The General area was easily spotted, but finding a place to park took me longer. EthNZ did the searching for this one. I bet the horses needed a drink after all the hills around! TFTC
The coordinates indicated somewhere else but we spotted the trough. My turn to jump the soft mud and so I did to find the cache. The log is very damp and pages hard to prise apart. I managed to separate two close to where the last loggers wrote and sign it. Signed Team IE. TFTC
Second day of my long weekend in New Plymouth, or more technically Taranaki.
Today I decided to forgo numbers to do something that I have always wanted to do, albeit I wanted to do it on a motorbike, but a car is second choice - drive the Forgotten World Highway to Whangamomona. So I set off nice and early.
Heading back to New Plymouth albeit the long way now. Overshot the gz and had to carefully back up to a safe parking spot. Coordinates seemed to be out by about 10 metres for me. Quick find once the host item was spotted. TFTC

On my way to New Plymouth and thought i'd detour up to the chemical weapons factory. In doing so i also targeted the other realitively nearby caches such as this one.
GPS appeared a bit off but I followed the sounds and the clue. Also had a little black berry snack on the way back to the car
Cheers.

Missed our first parking opportunity so parked up the road 200m or so away. Nice walk down the road and found the trough. Love the horse trough caches, makes you think how hard old times would of been. Luckily I brought a spare pair of shoes as mine are now soaking wet and muddy! Thanks PT.
The hardest part about this cache is finding a parking spot. We parked a bit past the GZ and walked back. Cache quickly found and log signed. Cool spot and my 10 year old got to learn some more of our local history.
Found pretty quickly, thank goodness, cause some wild chooks were heading down the road, lol, had to pass the skin of a goat hanging over the fence, not pleasant, tftc Priceless Time
No traffic around today. A quick park and grab while Geo-dog waited patiently in the car. Tftc!
TFTC Trough well hidden by the vegetation now. It would not be seen unless looking for it
Found on a round trip via North Taranaki with Gonme 62. Well she was not expecting that, definitely thought this one was going to be near the top of the saddle. Drove past it twice and had to come back a third, who knew this was there! Great hide, great place. Left a diamond. Thanks for the cache.
She's a narrow road! And need to bring gum boots next time, it's a bit wet here too. Tftc
Would have never noticed this was there. Cool thinking back how things use to be riding horses over the saddle
Wow not my best day for caching! Took me ages to find this one! Two wet feet later. Good hide TFTC.
We started the day off heading for the Huinga Tunnel cache but we never got there as we changed our mind and did a different loop
Many thanks

A detour to the horse trough, on my way to New Plymouth for a daffodil show. Quick find. Thanks for the cache.
First Geo for the day, took a little while to get our GPS going, Once we did it took only a few minutes to find.
Quick find but wouldn't want to be a horse now. Lots of road works in the area. But not effecting the cache. TFTC
Easter Sunday and a short roadtrip to pick up the Tarata caches, wife and geodog in tow, nice drive and weather and of course Mission Accomplished TFTC! This was the first one on the loop..

on our long holiday to taranaki and back to gisborne, a loop track. watch the traffic, we didnt know these troughs existed, an old refueling station.
Day #1 of a 3 day road trip to the Taranaki.
Found on a night caching mission after dropping off gear at my accommodation in New Plymouth.
Despite the hour I had two cars pass me on this back road while finding this cache here. Go figure!
Thanks!

I'm really enjoying these Taranaki back roads. The sun is shining, there's great scenery and there's a few caches to grab . This one was a quick find with luckily no traffic to be seen.

Lovely day to cache in the countryside. Interesting site I could easily have overlooked. The horses would have been very grateful. TFTC
Saw this on the way to visit a fellow cacher and grabbed it on the way back. Lovely spot for a cache, 2nd horse trough one I have found
I've driven past this a few times, and thought it was just a concrete drainage sump or something, and not given it any more thought.
Anyway, we parked about 400 metres away, by a cattle loading ramp, and walked the rest of the way uphill for a fairly quick find. Only one car went past while we were there, but my wife faked a photo shoot in case the driver had suspicions.
We signed the log, and left a personal trading token.
Thanks for the hide.

If you blink or are concentrating on the road driving you may miss it. Some heavy rain should soon fill the trough if you need it! tftc PT
Thanks PT another piece of history the start of a drive into the hinterland of taranaki TFTC
Had a visit to make to Suffolk road this afternoon which was quite handy when a new cache popped up only a few KMs away... Would have never even noticed the trough there if I hadn't have been looking for it... Don't imagine it gets much use these days... Especially as it's mostly filled in...
Thanks for the cache
