Fortunate to have the day off work on Leap day so out caching. Headed up to Picton and stopped for this cache to fill a mystery dot day. I had previously failed to find this but got a further hint from the CO that made me persist a bit longer today. Thanks for the chance to change this sad face into a smiley.
Headed over to Picton for a long evening of caching around Victoria Domain and Snout track. Managed 14 finds, 1 DNF, a swim and a few hours of walking. Solved this last year so wasnt sure if the changes to the coordinates were more recent. Still had no joy tracking down the cache despite the CO kindly confirming that I had had the right numbers. Will be back.
I have a feeling we attempted this cache once before with no luck. Then there might have been some tinkering with the co-ords but we didn't get back to it. Then a bit more tinkering and today we were in the area so checked all our calculations before heading off. Arrived in the drizzle and lots of muggles around so did the projection, had a quick look and decided to flag it for now. After a days caching in other areas around Picton, with the muggle population lessening due to the cruise ship departing and with the weather improving - but not getting warmer, we stopped for another look before heading back to our camp. Ended up that we were spot on with our interpretation of the hint and cache was soon in hand. Replaced plastic bag as everything was full of water, so hopefully will stay dry for a while. Log signed and replaced as found. tftc#
I discovered a transposition error in my coords. Quick find at the right place! TFTC!!
One of the few solved puzzle caches that we had the opportunity to come and find on our wee road trip, wee as in time, not distance as we are from the north end of the Auckland super city. I had forgotten there was a second step once at GZ but after not finding anything we reread the description and soon sorted things out. Finally found a spot that the hint made sense for and soon had the hide in hand. Weather was foggy this morning but the day has turned out to be a stunning one. Thanks for the puzzle and extra one to get to GZ taybee nz!
I enjoyed solving this puzzle and the twist at the end (favourite given). Finding the cache was easy, but walking back wasn’t. I caught my foot in some grass hanging over and partly lying on the footpath. Fall I did -more worried about my phone than me!!!! Both were ok.
After a weekend caching with TwigNZ, YetiNZ, Mr-Mcgoo in Nelson I visited friends before crossing the strait today. It was a great weekend and we found lots of caches, met some of the local cachers, released a cache, laughed a lot, saw a lot and basically had a great time. Apologies for the late log.
Kia ora rawa atu for the cache taybee nz.

We had some passengers to pick up from the ferry when it finally gets here so filled in the time with some finds. This was one of them.
I had previously solved this one and searched without finding anything. Thinking my working was out, I re-solved the Sudoku puzzle, got the same location for the info board and after visiting that board, got the same final location. This time I searched a bit more and ta-da, there it is, just where the hint said it should be.

Hello from northern California, USA
[Mrs_Ratman](https://www.geocaching.com/profile/?guid=6387f638-372a-4a60-854f-fec7e34a54dd) and I are taking a 39 day cruise on the Holland America Noordam. We will be visiting six ports in New Zealand, three in Australia, Two in New Caledonia, two in Fiji, one in American Samoa, three in Hawaii, and then we end the cruise in Vancouver BC.
One goal that we have whenever we travel (by car or by cruise ship) is to find at least one cache every place we visit.
We took a walking tour of the area, and found a few caches
The Sudoku puzzle was a quick puzzle to solve. The field puzzle, not so much. We needed to read the sign four times before we spotted the information that we needed. We did the calculations, did the projection, and headed over to the final. Then it took us a minute or two to locate the prize. The coords were good. Unfortunately, the log in the cache was damp.
We put some of our ink on to the log, I left one of my signature rats, and then we replaced the cache as we found it.

(# 7599) Day 5 and our last of the West Coast trip primarily to go to the Wild Food Festival in Hokitika. Today we are in Picton awaiting the time to board the ferry back home. Quickly solved the sudoku then onto the next waypoint to get the further information. Having got that we were off to the final. Took a little bit of finding in that it took longer than it should have. Thanks for bringing me here.
Day 5, and our last, of our caching adventure to the wildfoods festival and back. Back in Picton waiting for our ferry with Mr-Mcgoo and Justlooking00. Early this morning I solved the sudoku in case we headed that way. After a yummy brekkie in town we did decide to head out here and complete the rest of the requirements. remaining info duly gathered and Toolbox made quick work of the projection. We spent a bit of time trying to interpret the hint to help narrow down the search, My initial throw away comment about where it was, that I didn't actually check, turned out to be where we should have started. All good here TFTC taybee nz.
I always enjoy solving sudoku, so I did that part at home in advance. We followed the Adventure Lab across Coathanger Bridge and then walked over to make this find. The log was wet, but we did manage to get some ink on it. TFTC!
Today some caches around Picton.
First I found the place and than I saw that there is another calculation.
The hint helps me after find.
Thanks.

Unfortunately not found, but I couldn't search that intensively because there were people next to me.
So, after just over 3 hours from leaving Nelson I have arrived at my Airbnb.
Bags dropped and some time to kill before bedtime.
A few CBD caches to be had starting with this long-solves puzzle.
A fiddly find in the dark.

I solved the Sudoku quickly, and then did the first adjustment which got me to what had to be the right spot. I then figured out the offset and went to the final. When the cx didn't jump right out at me, I started to wonder if I had made a mistake somewhere along the way. But then I spotted a likely location and the cx. TFTC.
Love sudoku but hadnt noticed this one before. Took a little working thru the updated info. Located a very wet container and signed log. Tftc and puzzle
Got the numbers on our way over the Tata Beach for a great holiday. Then stopped in on our way home to pick the cache up. Nice wee puzzle and thanks for the history. No pen with me so photo provided. Just opened the container to find it full of water. Empty what I could but the logbook looks ruined.
Another day in Picton and the weather is not great today so Mrs beconaze solved this Sudoku this morning at our stay. The waypoint was not to far away so we braved the drizzle to go get the info then off to the final nearby. After a few minutes we had it in hand signed and returned
We solved the first part of this puzzle back in 2016, then the second part when we were in Picton in March, but didn’t have time to complete the solve and make the find then. We were passing through again today on our way back to the NI, and expected it to be a difficult find, but Mr nzk went straight to it. The hint made sense to us too. There was a little water in the container but the log was dry. Thanks for the puzzle and cache, taybee nz.
I started this cache puzzle way back in June 2016 and finally managed to complete this weekend. I did think for a while the hide was going to defeat me but persistence finally paid off. TFTC and Puzzle taybee nz.
Having found most of the traditional caches in the Picton urban area, I decided to work on the multi and puzzle caches so I can get a good idea where the caches are hidden, so it's easier when planning my own caches in the area.
Tonight I'm just in Picton for work, so I thought I'd stop by and collect this final stage while it's void of muggles.
When I came here on the motorbike last Friday, the whole place was bustling with school holidaymakers and Waka Ama rowers. There was no chance of finding this cache, so I had just done the final calculation instead.
The hint didn't seem to make any sense with regards to fixing stuff? I guess the rock part was somewhat correct.
Tried to dry out the ritr log and plastic bag as best I could, thankfully my pen still made a good mark on the log.
TFTC!!

Having solved this some time ago I was somewhat baffled by my inability to find the cache.
This morning on a meander of Picton to Waikawa I decided to give it another go.
Turns out I've been looking in the right place all along, today was finally the day

Not sure how I mucked this one up last time I tried to do it.
Not sure how I mucked this one up this morning until I phoned a friend and I soon realised my mistake, it really comes down to slowing down and reading the cache page properly.
Thanks for placing this cache and thank you for the smiley.

Finally we are heading off for an extended campervan trip around the South Island. We came over on the ferry this morning, and arrived in Picton to a cloudless blue sky and scorching hot weather.
We headed straight to the GZ of this puzzle for yet another hunt for the final, though the DNFs posted lately did not give us much hope. We decided to re-do the sudoku and projection while we had lunch, but couldn't get an image for the grid (not sure why - we see it is there now). We settled instead for checking the info we required from near GZ and re-doing the projection. And this time the coords pointed to a slightly different spot than in the past. And the hint fitted here too! The cache was immediately spotted, and we were very happy to sign off on this one after all this time. Thanks!

Blew an hour (of only 5 that I had in Picton) on trying to work this one out. Sudoku solved, projection done, but none of the hint to be found.
Solved the sudoku, found the sign, did the projection but couldn’t find it. There was no shortage of rocks but nothing matching the second clue that I could see.
A Saturday in Picton, this was one of a few caches while in the area.
I had solved a while back and even pre-found the cache for collection today. Only problem was I could not remember the details. Took a minute to realise I had to resolve the (admittedly straightforward) puzzle where the solved coords took me to and do a simple projection.
Quick find from there, all quiet here today. TFTC taybee NZ.

Hooray, this has been our nemesis on every visit to Picton. We have enjoyed doing the sudoku, finally worked out how to do a projection on the GPS, and with a little nudge from the CO today we found and signed it along with annacons. Thanks for placing this and for your help

During our holiday in New Zealand we have visited both the North and the South Island. We saw a lot of highlights of this beautiful country, but there is so much more to see. So many highlights, so many caches! The geocaches showed us a lot of special and interesting places. Sometimes a quick find, sometimes we had to search longer. A few DNF's, but that doesn't matter. We loved New Zealand and we hope to come back some day!
Today we have found the cache "Picton Sudoku #1".
taybee nz, thanks for creating and maintaining this cache!

On our cruise of New Zealand this was one of our ports of call and with a couple of thousand people from the ship there were heaps of muggles around but with the kids helping out made it much easier.
I had presolved this at home so only needed the projection today. After gathering the clues there were a lot of potential locations at GZ but muggle wife made the find fairly quickly. Yay.
Thanks taybee nz for the cache, the adventure, the hunt and the fun.

Thanks for this one! Thanks for your quick reaction. Logbook is so wet that our stamp does not work.

Solving the first part of the puzzle when the cache was published in 2014 was straightforward, but we ran into problems when we tried to progress further in 2015, as the rest of the puzzle didn't make sense. The cache owner fixed this, and eventually, 3 years later, we finally found the cache, with the interesting, but accurate, hints. The log is absolutely sodden but unfortunately we didn't have a spare with us. TFTC
On a cache raid to Picton. After lunching in town it was time to start the afternoon's caching. I had solved the puzzle some years back and had the waypoint's coords. All that was left to do was go toi the waypoint and gather the details for the final cache location. At the waypoint I soon had all I needed and after a short walk I spotted the cache. [^] Well, that wasn't too difficult. Time now to walk a little further and visit the marina. TFTC taybee nz
New Zealand ... a dream for every traveling [8)]
A little more than 20 years ago I've been here, but since then much has changed and that's also good! Now I'm back here ... 1 week North Island and 2 weeks South Island ... cool [^] Of course, I want to visit a few caches. Especially dissolved puzzle caches, which I find particularly attractive Best thanks to all the owners !! Greetings from the Swiss "Kiwi"

It was over 3 years ago Mrs Sobad had a DNF - when the cache was indeed missing. With a recent find from another local, we decided to try again. After failing to find it using commonsense in an area near where she had first looked - we then found the needed information to make the changes to our coordinates for an instant find. With activity nearby, the cache was taken back to the car for the log to be completed. Returned as found when the activity ceased.
Pleased to finally log a find on a puzzle completed so long ago.

Finally back in Picton for another look for this one. Having looked for it in its original hiding spot and some time later having done the additional calculations and come up empty handed it was great to finally get a smilie for this one. TFTC .
Thanks for checking. That encourages me to have another go at this one next time I'm passing.
With some much needed help from the CO I rechecked the info and although I did not understand the requirements properly. A double puzzle of all things. Grrr. The extra hint helped so snagged and tagged and dropped in a path tag. Contact me if you are in the district and having problems. Cheers
Given that this cache hasn't been found for almost a year it really does need checking. I suspect many, like me, on not finding the cache think they have misinterpreted the instructions but it would be great if you could check if the cache is actually there. Cheers.
Nope. I had solved this sudoku prior to leaving home and then once at GZ, found the necessary clues for the next stage, which we calculated and looked and looked - nothing. came back the next day and redid the next stage and still couldn't find anything. really miffed at this having done most of the hard work at home. Oh well maybe if / when I come back to NZ
DD had solved this cache prior to our trip and once at gz we worked out the next stage, but try as we did both last night and thus morning, we were unable to find this cache. Very disappointing as we needed to find puzzle caches here on the South Island to qualify for a challenge cache we have already found and signed. Very disappointing

Sudoku was no problem, and the signe was easy to interpret. Even pretty sure we understood the clues, but couldn't find it. Muggled?
Found with Rayzr2. After a failed attempt we put our heads together and came up with some likely coordinates but looking at Google maps and the clues it didn't look too likely again, but the find was made with geo knowledge. Thanks for the puzzle. Love sudoku.
Had an interesting day cleaning up unfound caches in the Picton and Port Underwood areas, there were some extremely good ones. This cache was going to be my last for the day but then my ferry got delayed so I had time to spare. I had pre-solved the Sudoku quite a long time ago, and the field questions were answered without any issues. Found the cache after a few minutes' searching., fortunately there were very few people around in the late afternoon on a week day. Signed log, TFTC
This one was definitely a bit tricky and I had to have 2 attempts at finding it.... joy at last.. although the clues still have me scratching my head. luckily the GPS put me right on top of it after it settled down found with team_MacDonald TFTC #700

A great trip out on the water with the regular work caching crew, and a couple of other familiar faces. Having cached out most of the outer Queen Charlotte sound, it was back here for these recently added caches in the Kaipupu reserve area. A water taxi load of cruise ship passengers was also visiting the area but went the other way.
After the water trip was complete, and the boats back on the trailer we made the find of this puzzle final. Not too far from the original solution I had. T F T C

I had solved this ages ago but then struggle with the final spot. Every Time I looked it always seemed muggle central. Today after a boat trip to outer sounds and Kaipupu point - this location seemed pretty quiet. With a little help from others cache was located. Well hidden here.

The RNZAF Base Woodbourne Adventure Sports Club holds regular trips into the Marlborough Sounds mainly to cater for members who wish to tramp/walk/run the many tracks and walks available. However since geocaching has been included under the 'Adventure Sports' umbrella, these trips have become more popular. Today three boats headed out at 'Zero Dark Early' for a day on the sounds, one full of walkers and runners and two full of geocachers and their families and friends.
Today we collected a variety of caches, some on the mainland and others on various outlying islands and even some on a 'mainland island' mainly requiring boat access only. At the end of the day, after the boats were retrieved and washed down, we took time out to complete this cache which had been solved for some time now.

Having a few more days of leave left to me I decided to head over to Marlborough for a couple of days of finding out of the way caches. I solved this puzzle ages ago but today was my first chance to actually have a go at finding the cache. I parked nearby and then realised that there was still a bit of work to do before I could start my search. I got that sorted out OK and then my GPS took me to an area with lots of options for the hide. I tried to interpret the hints but still took a while to make sense of it. I nearly gave up when I had one last look and there was the cache. Whew! TFTC, Biggles.
Idly began the sudoku which proved to be the easiest part of the puzzle. It wasn't until I had what I thought were final co ords that I saw the adjustment and multi. This raised the stakes so sign was visited. Info collected. Mrs j used a tool app to get co ords which came up with a GZ nicely matching hints and shortly the cache. Mr j used a compass and searched further right. Seems difference is true vs magnetic. NINO TFTC
I love sudoku so I was very happy to find one in Picton. With the help of some local wine the riddle was easily solved and it wasn't any problem to find the missing numbers at the sign. But then we looked what felt forever for the container and couldn't find it. So I asked CO for an additional hint and with that we tried again and were lucky! We found it a little bit more to the left than we looked in the first place. Thank you very much for the fun of a mystery and for the quick answer so that we could find the cache during our holiday on the South Island!
We solved the puzzle before we left the UK and soon located the sign and did the necessary maths. We have been back twice before giving up on this. The first hint is not very helpful as there are rocks all over the search zone. I fail to understand the second hint, anyway thanks for keeping us amused (frustrated?)
O Boy!!! what a full on 5 days caching. Driving/Sailing to attend the Christchurch Mega Event with Squirrel Nutcase and also picking up caches on the way to help us complete our Dot Days and Challenges we are currently trying to fulfill. We traveled to so many places that we have never visited before and with 240 plus caches later knew we had an eventful few days.

On the way to Christchurch Mega 2015 with Gap (of Fap and Gap), and picking up caches as we go...
Marlborough: A smooth sailing across the Cook Strait, and my first visit to the South Island... Super excited about what lies ahead. We spotted this sudoku puzzle while scanning the geo-map, and knew we could have it solved before the ferry docked... As it turned out, our departure was delayed because the ferry door wouldn't open. By the time we drove off, we were pretty confident that we had the final sorted.
Everything seemed to stack up, but we had a lot of trouble trying to interpret and unravel the messy cache page description. We were happy with 'our' ground zone, but a thorough search turned up nothing. We even received some help from an interested lady... We eventually found the cache, though not where we think it should be. TFTP and TFTC.

When I woke up this morning I hadn't decided on which caches I would go for. Decisions, decisions. In the end I decided to go for a walk to blow some of the cobwebs away and then go for some of the easier ones.
Time now for ones on the flat. Love these puzzles and managed to get this one signed off even with a muggle walking past at the critical moment. Where did he come from?
Cheers for the cache.

Day#2 of our trip to Picton via Port Underwood Road and time to head home to Richmond, via another scenic route, of course. Another stunning sunny day and lots of interesting places visited so many thanks to all the COS for their cache placements.
We had stopped to look for this cache last night but I hadn't realised we needed to do a projection at the calculated co-ords and it was only when I read the cache page properly later at the motel that I discovered that vital bit of info. We were keen to have another go this morning and soon we had the bearing and distance sorted. A short time later, we were at the real GZ, and after looking at a few things, StreetWalker turned up the cache. Good to turn this into a smiley. Nice location at the final, well worth a cache placement. TFTC.

#10014. It was late in the day when we got here yesterday; must have been too tired to think of looking for any updated info in the description. Troodles spotted the info we had missed, and today we were back for a quick find. TFTC.
Solved the puzzle ages ago. Got the required information today but the final had me in the middle of nowhere. Finally realised I'd added the projection to the sudoko results without the extra add on. Got there in the end. No one around except a yapping dog at the nearest house. Bitter cold wind, I guess sensible muggles were wrapped up at home in the warm. TFTC

Solving the initial puzzle was straightforward, and the amendment to take us to the sign was fine, but the rest of the instructions seem nonsensical! Apart from the multiple misspellings, we had two different values for each of A and W, and no value for R, which allowed so many possibilities we gave up.
We were at the estimated GZ, but there was no box. Unsurprisingly, becaused the box moved meanwhile, I read at the moment.
we solved the sodoku before we came to new sealand. but on the gz was nothing to find

[green] Got invited to a road trip with Taybee and TaybeeNZ, and Taybee had cleverly worked out a route neither of us had been - 40 caches worth! Picton, Queen Charlotte Drive and Pelorus. Long day.
I had solved this cache the day it came out (and then three days later, someone logs a note - First to Solve - yeah, right). It sat unfound for ages, so I decided to cycle from Blenheim to Picton on Saturday to claim the empty logbook. Then, on Friday, someone logs the find. Oh, well, it saved me the trip. That was long ago, and at long last I am here (with the cache owner!) to claim the find. Yay!

Heat (we suspect) has caused cache to come loose. Was laying on the ground and we were unable to return it to where it belongs. We have hidden it under sign post and covered as well as we could - this will need urgent attention as I don't know if it will remain out of sight of Muggles were it is ... TFTC - a neat puzzle.
Solved this a few weeks ago. Went for the final but it was Muggle central. Went back today and the cache was laying right there on the ground. Signed the log but couldn't return cache to were it should be. Needs urgent attention. TFTC.
Solved this quite a while ago. In town tonight to make the find. Interesting hide.

First find on a trip down the top of the South Island with tmann421. Lots of great caches found and adventures undertaken in the retrieval of each cache. Excellent weather just about the entire trip.
This was a quick find upon arrival early this morning.

We love sudoku's so this was a fun puzzle for us! Had a few minutes before catching the ferry so went for a wander to mKe a quick find. TFTC
Whoa..., New Year's Day already. My NY resolution is: start out the way you mean to finish! So, it was bright and early for a start to the day's caching!
Had solved this one before leaving home, always a good thing.
Nice straightforward find once at GZ. Not too many muggles about this morning and those that were had bleary eyed looks in the main.
Cache in order, log signed; safely re-hidden, just as found.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too
The Turtle strikes again!

Back for a second try at finding this one after it was awol last time. Hadn't seen the change to the puzzle page but fortunately spotted the log advising of a new hiding spot. Checked compass and spied a possible hiding spot. Sure enough the cache was there. Nice to knock this one off. Time for our walk to Waikawa along the nearby track.
Thanks taybee nz for the cache.

Solved this one a few months ago and was keen to find it for a dot day while staying in Picton. It turned out to be quite a saga - first I turned my GPS on to look for it and found that the batteries were too low. Walked back to the house I was staying at and changed the batteries. Set off for the final - no success. Even managed to dismantle a sprinkler - only to find it was the genuine thing! Checked my phone and found that the coordinates had been changed and my print out was out of date. Walked back to the house (fortunately only 5 minutes away) and used a laptop to re-work the final location. Another 5 minute walk and the cache was quickly found. Uh oh, I had left my pen back at the house. Walked to the nearest shop and bought a pen. Mission accomplished. Thanks for the puzzle taybee nz and good to tick this one off.
my sweetheart just loves sudokus and solved this one quickly as usually. we didn't really understand why you didn't change the formula instead of adding a correction, that would be nice, as I doubt we were the only ones who overread it first. so it was an unnecessary long search. yet thanks.
it was a pleasure to visit this geocache with bubblezone during our long trip. I like sudoku
many thanks to the owner!
