Lovely walk along the pipe! This trail borders my son's property. Surprised by the slippery final connections but we made it! Interesting history but how is it used now??? TFTC!

Came by to visit a friend's property and take a walk along the trail. Found the way and made the find. Now, to figure out just what the purpose of this place is for. SL TNLN TFTC!

#76 great cache once we got around Google not being as smart as humans with directions. No geocoin attached sadly but left a treasure and took a trestle. TFTC

18-Apr-23
Another day in the land of the long white cloud. TeamARF, JACSTeam and I headed back toward Auckland gathering caches as we drove along. A few odd ones today but happy overall with the day. I had booked us a place rather remote so a tad more driving than we had anticipated plus a road closure altered our plans the next morning. Still heaps of fun and some some fab caches. Thanks to all the COs green carpet laid out fur a lovely walk. Fab oldie!

17-Apr-23
This is not the walk that I envisaged when commencing the hike to the cache. The walk was flat through some lovely forest. Even spotted a few birds on the walk. As with every good and old cache, there had to be a twist so down the hill we went to another flat path, all the way to GZ. Cache was uncovered and signed.

It's great to grab these old caches as they are usually in lovely and isolated locations. Thanks to M@ et all for keeping this oldie active.

Day 4: We ( TeamARF, Gcoven and myself) have travelled over from Brisbane, Australia to have a visit since we were not able to make it to the Mega. We have spent some considerable time solving puzzles and making plans in preparation.

Today the plan is to work on collecting things of our list. We have a gigantic list of old, interesting, highly favourited, challenges and a few Geo-arts to try and collect over the next 10 days. There is a good chance we got lazy with our logging and do some joint variation of our initials - TGJ, GJT or JGT.

Please excuse the generic log, just have extremely little data to try and survive on it for the 10 days. However, you can be assured that if we have found your cache it was special to us for some reason or in a special location - so thank you for contributing to our holiday.

I will edit logs when back in Brisbane to add more details to those that need more details and of course I will be adding favourite points as I go along.

Additional Notes: I really enjoyed this walk along the pipeline and especially heading down to the bottom section.

spent 6 great weeks in New Zealand with my The start was a bit bumpy (Cyclone Gabrielle) but then it got better and better. We travelled to both islands and discovered a lot. We photographed and filmed many beautiful things, but most of it stayed in our hearts.
Almost everywhere we stopped, a cache was already waiting for us. Most of the caches are well maintained and easy to find.

With mostly very nice Cool weather, we saw a lot of this impressive island. In many places, caches were waiting for us, which were sometimes easy and sometimes difficult to find. This cache was also included and was successfully signed

We puzzled a lot in advance and the tours were well prepared Wink
So this box was also well found.

now I have another Smile on my personal cache card.

many thanks to [^] **Liz, Steve, Katherine and Tui** [^] for the effort and the cache and greetings from Germany

TFTF

27-Sep-22
I'm on a week's annual leave, choosing to spend time traveling north to visit and reconnect with a few friends up here, and naturally that also gives me an opportunity to do some caching up this way again. Today is day 2, which involves driving from Botany to Kaiwaka, via a couple of targeted caches in West Auckland.

This was one of those that I'd targeted, simply because it would fill one of my last remaining holes in my NZ Jasmer Grid. I wasn't sure which was the best (IE quickest) end to approach from, but ended up parking up on Shaw Road and walking to it from there. I had the whole place to myself, and about 10 minutes after setting off, I had found the cache. Phew, good to get this one.

Thanks for keeping it going for so long.

14-Jun-22
I have been wanting to come out here for a long while, but it was never really the right time... but I woke up today wanting to get out of the city and go for a decent hike, and finally made it here. I ended up with a nice 15.3 km out-and-back starting at the bus stop not too far from this cache, then following the pipeline, then up the Beveridge Track to the Arataki visitor centre, then a couple of loops from there and *then* all the way back to the bus stop. With a few detours and stops for caches of course. Smile

This was the first cache I found today and a cache page I have looked at a few times since it fills a space in my Jasmer, and also happens to be older than I am. Very muddy getting up here today but the cache was a quick find and the log was all dry. No geocoin inside though.

Thank you for placing it and maintaining it so I could find it, 20 years after placement!!

Another side trip after doing the pipeline walk end to end. Nice and easy trail to GZ and the nicely sized cache was soon in hand, thanks M@/tofska.

New year has been and gone and the temperature has cranked big-style with late-20s for the last several days. After being away for the main holidays the caching has been fairly sparse but with mrs c back to work today it gives me a week before I head back myself to the home office and prep for moving South. Thanks to all COs for their caches today.

Todays efforts were centred around Tititangi and the pipeline trail but also a few other targets as I passed by to/from. Even found my last 'local' Wherigo which takes me to 25 of this (fairly) rare cache type and a 'badge upgrade' on Project GC.

A plan was hatched to try and find as many different combinations on the D/T grid that we could in one day. A route was planned and planned again a number of times. It has been months in the planning but today it was coming to fruition.
I left Hamilton at 4.45am and met up with ABCDF4 and eyespyben in Huntly before arriving at our first cache at 7am. It was a long and tiring day with the last cache found as darkness set in. And after a celebratory dinner at McDonalds I got home at 11.00pm.
My calculations is that we achieved 47 with only 2 DNFs. Thank you to all the cache owners.
Missed the turn off so had to back track. I eventually located the cache where Mrs ABCDF4 had looked. Thank you for the placement.

We had talked about this personal challenge, D/T Grid for sometime, so decided to attack on long weekend ( Waitangi),EyeSpy first up at 4.30am,so time to rise as KGD will be here soon and left Huntly for our first cache in Ak at 7am. Lota of laughs, plenty of U turns, tree climbing, muddy gumboots, very steep climbs and plenty of Kms travelled. Our total over the period was 47 different D/T ratings and only 2 dnfs. Thanks to all the Cos for a great day in the Supa City and KGD for his organisation skills. Bit of a blond look but eventually found.

Great place for a cache!

So random, thanks for maintaining it all these years!

Lovely walk...first time on this part of pipeline track....
Didn't expect such a big container!
Removed all the sodden logs...added a pill bottle with waterproof paper .
What an oldie!

20-Jun-20
Cool little walk and nice to find such an oldie. Both logbooks soaking wet! TFTC!!

14-Jun-20
Such a great hiding spot. And it was a big geocache so it was easy to find! Thanks for the fun !!

28-Feb-20
Found it! Lived here for almost 20 years and didn’t know this was here! Too wet to write on paper though.

This cache has taunted me for so long. Oldest unfound cache in Auckland so always appears at the top of my list for GSAK. Was in the area so TF and I had a wander along to this and was a great walk. Cache was easily located but does require some waterproof maintenance. So happy to have found this one and a fav point for the length of time it has been in existence (15 years)

31-Mar-17
I came from the Shaw Rd parking area and tried the first small path off the main trail I came to. It quickly disappeared, so I headed the 'no bush bashing required' and went farther along to find the right entrance. Cache was in a very obvious place, so I hid it a little better. TFTC.

16-Jan-17
Parked my car in the parking of Exhibition drive and walked to this one. I missed the track leading to this cache and went further ahead first. But after some time realized my mistake and turned back. This time i was more conscious and managed to find the very unnoticeable track. I love such uneven tracks, it keeps my walk entertaining. Cache was easily found and its all good here. Thank you very much for bringing me here.
P.S: I did my walk through exhibition drive, from the end closer to Scenic drive. The track leading to the cache is right after a few largely visible stumps. This seemed to be very easy and straight forward route to the cache. Not sure about winter times though.

16-Dec-16
In Auckland for the weekend so I went looking for a couple of nearby bush caches. I started looking for a way through the bush from Waima Cres without luck so I headed up the road when I found what I assumed was the pipeline out at Woodlands Park Rd. The GPSr indicated I was going in the right direction so I kept going. It's evident from the description and cache logs that there are several ways to get access to this grand old cache. My ignorance paid dividends today as I more or less stumbled on what must be the easiest means of accessing this one - straight along the pipe from Woodlands Park Rd!
What a gorgeous (and easy) walk it is along the pipeline through magnificent stands of kauris, rimus, nikaus and more for a staightforward find. Great to find such a nice large cache container too and even more special to log a cache that dates back to May 2002!! What's not to love about caches like this.
The log is a bit damp which is not surprising in this location. Perhaps when it's time for a replacement, waterproof paper (e.g. florists' paper) would be a good idea.
Thanks M@ for placing this cache here.

28-Aug-16
Just moved into the area - first find as a local! Good find, but per below, with kids it is better to go down the path that runs from next to the two big tree stumps towards waima cres - instead of going straight down from exhibition walk which is pretty steep. Cheers Rhodes family

09-Jul-16
Quite a descent from path but worth the effort and not difficult to stop the site.

02-Jul-16
Going for a wee walk along exhibition drive and have wanted to go off-piste and find a few caches here for a while. Dad was with so had a partner in crime. Good walk down, and the cache was found quickly. Tftc

After work I decided to take the kids on a little walk before mom got home. I noticed that this is the closest of the really old Auckland caches so it seemed like a good cache to visit. We stopped to take a picture of my kids on top of the massive tree stump and my daughter noticed the path heading into the bush. This was lucky because I thought the path was further on down the main trail. After confirming with the GPS we headed in. After that we were quickly at GZ and I gave the hint to my daughter who decided to have a peek only to hop back away almost instantly due to there being "so many spiders". I had a laugh, leaned over to have a look myself and spotted the container. I signed the log off and we headed back. Really enjoyed the walk as it is really beautiful spot...gets a favorite from me! TFTC! #893

23-Mar-16
One of the main targets for today was this quite old one at the pipe. When I spotted this one from Germany I had no idea what you can mean, but now I know it. I could really walk on the pipe! Never seen something like this. but it's a very cosy possibility for walking and so I soon reached the cache.

Thanks a lot for the cache.

3rd time lucky- training master11 for the Tongariro crossing so trying to get in some big walks handy to home. 1st week forgot phone, 2nd week couldn't find side track so finally today! Yay, nice quick detour onto another track and soon had cache in hand. Cool area, ty for bringing us here and Tftc

#1606. This cache was on my Auckland to do list as I needed to find some pre-2005 caches to fulfil one of the GIO series challenges. As fate would have it a tractor was trimming the side of the path as I walked along the track. The operator flagged me through and it turned out he was nicely blocking the path for this cache. Not knowing this I carried on until the GPS line swung left and a steep slope appeared. Read the hint and a few logs. Thought there must be an entrance further on so carried along for a while but nothing. So did the next cache on this track. On my return I looked at the contours on the GPS map. Didn't seem too difficult. So headed into the bush and descended down through the rainforest. It was actually fairly open and OK with my gumboots. But was pleased to see a proper formed path when I hit the GZ. On arriving the cache was quickly spied and removed from its hiding spot. Nice to see the original logbook is still there. The replacement was slightly damp but not too bad. Signed it and took a few photos of the logbooks and the GZ. Then headed back along the well formed path until it got a bit steep and greasy. Then up hill and back to the tree stumps. A close inspection revealed Batman was wrong. They are macrocarpa stumps, not kauri! Thanks for the cache. Will give it a favourite.

Coordinates at this track junction. South 36 56.205, East 174 38.040.

17-Oct-15
Decided to head out Scenic Drive way and took a detour down Exhibition Drive. Enjoyed the walk although it was longer than it should have been after taking a wrong turn! Nice spot. #4 for the day.

17-Oct-15
Another great spot discovered in the area TFTC

17-Oct-15
Fun place to explore tftc

02-Oct-15
Favourite cache ever! Such a cool place that i never knew existed. Got very muddy on the way though!

06-Sep-15
What a cool location that I never would have discovered had it not been for geocaching. We weren't sure where to approach this cache from and probably started with a more intrepid track to start with, especially with all the rains we've had. Geodogs loved it. TB out, TB in. tftc

27-Jun-15
Still a few days for me in New Zealand. I decided to visit again the Waitekere Ranges. This area is really nice and when you look at its history, it's obvious that a great effort has been done to give it its natural and wild aspect.
I will be guided as often by some geocaches to choose the places to visit and tracks to explore.

I start with 2 caches close to the end of Christian Road and then headed to Cascade Kauri.
I did a short stop to visit the Waitekere and Saddle dam and finally visited a few caches along scenic drive.

Strange area, hidden in the middle of the forest. Cool to find such a quiet place and nice to see this big pipe !

cache is a little wet but all in all in good condition
Thanks for the cache.

Quiet little place in the middle of nowhere nice place for lunch Smile

10-May-15
Track starts by the felled kauri trees, 2 large stumps.

Dropping of Maine Lighthouses TB

15-Apr-15
Catching up on long overdue logging.
Needed some caches for Geolicense Challenges, particulary one published in May 2000 (this one). There was also a multi in the area that my parents were keen on doing.
So on a sunny day we headed for Titirangi, far these and as many others as we had time for.
Easiest walk we've done all day. Interesting to see the other end of pipe we had seen disapearing earlier in day. TFTC Picked up TB

28-Mar-15
Great surprise at the end of the track, nice find, tftc.

15-Feb-15
Headed out the door today with the younger Future Finder keen on a bush walk. This looked like a good length and as the oldest, active, cache that I have yet to find, in Auckland it was the top option. We followed the advice in the title and walked the pipe, avoiding exhibition drive entirely. This is the more direct and interesting route. This really counts as something a bit different. Cache was spotted in the very first place I checked. Seemed a little exposed so on return I applied some natural camo. This was when I realised I had left home without a pen! Signed a crude "LC" in natural earth tones. Also took a picture with the FF holding the cache. Will upload when next at a PC. Cheers for keeping this one going!

Missed the side track, but after walking a short distances, and the distance moving away, it was time to back track! This track was a little overgrown and covered with debris as we walked down, but then it opened up. Whilst signing the log, the mosquitoes where ravenous and I think they had a quick meal! Another magical spot, a secret place in the bush. Last stop before we arrive back at the Scenic drive, from out start point at the Information centre. Took us about 3 hours with our leisurely pace. Thanks for the hide. Big Grin

Looking forward to seeing the TB, but no TB attached Sad

15-Feb-15
Beautiful day for a walk, came down from Arataki. Tried this one last week but completely overshot the track, but not today. Interesting little spot. Last cache for the day heading back to car for a cuppa. Unfortunately no geo coin to discover.

25-Jan-15
It was yet another scorching summer's day and a couple of muggle friends and I decided to walk the pipeline after checking out the Titirangi market. Thankfully I had read previous logs so I knew to look out for a side track and found it relatively easily. We set off down and muggle friends decided they weren't wearing the appropriate footwear to continue down, so I grabbed my pen and left them chatting. Wow, I never knew this sidetrack and path were here! The cache was in the first place I looked. Thanks for bringing me here.

17-Jan-15
Agree with previous commenter, wayfarer would be useful. We bushwhacked our way through

12-Jan-15
Found track on the way back and despite it being what was obviously a track there was some beautiful kauri trees there that made me a bit nervous!! Future cachers please be respectful - try not to stand on roots/ make sure your shoes don't have any infected soil on them (unfortunately there are no spray stations on exhibition drive) don't want to spread Kauri dieback!! Awesome cache! Thanks

14-Dec-14
Having scrolled down the previous logs we knew where to look for the cache and had great fun going down the muddy side track. Our son-in-law stood in a big puddle while retrieving the cache - he was not a happy-chappy! Container wet inside. Thanks for bringing us to this interesting spot tofska. We will have to return to this walk next time we are up from the south to knock off the other caches in this area.

10-Dec-14
This was a fun one for us. More than 20 years living in Auckland, and we didn't know of this side track and pipe-line off the Exhibition Drive walkway. Missed the side track first time, but found it on the return walk to the car. TFTC

29-Nov-14
Took a while to try & find the side track, but once we did it was a quick trek to the cache. Thanks.

05-Nov-14
Our guide showed us how to get there the easy way! we are discovering the area. Seen a big rat on Exhibition drive. It might have been sick as it was not really scared of us. Thanks

24-Sep-14
we were riding our bike down from arataki picking up some caches along the way, had a bit of trouble locating the track down to this cache and then found out it was not very bike friendly in the wet, hence by the time we were back up on exhibition drive we were very muddy, nice quick find once at GZ tftc

14-Sep-14
Took a while to find the side track. Pass close by a house. Very pretty. TFTC

14-Sep-14
Thanks for the cache, my girls found it.

07-Sep-14
My first cache, nice and easy to find! TFTC

05-Sep-14
thanks for the walk. never dare going further than the obvious turn off before so i am pleased to have been enticed there. the container was full of water so we tried to clean it all up, removed the brochure which was soaked. we replaced the container upside down so hopefully no water will get in. Thanks

12-Aug-14
Luckily I knew where the track leading to this was as I grew up playing on the pipeline yet I have never been to where the cache is located! I would advise not to try this one after heavy rain! Mud everywhere. TFTC

19-Jul-14
Managed to spot the track off the main walkway. A nice secluded area that I have not been to before. Good fun. TFTC.

08-Jun-14
Luckily for me Ric knew where the proper track was so I was pleased I didn't need to bush bash !
Interesting to read how other people in the logs made their approaches !!!!! TFTC

07-Jun-14
We took the hard way through the bush because we couldn't find the path. It was quite fun but you may consider adding a waypoint for where the side track off Exhibition Dr starts as it's pretty far from where one would expect it. Especially when coming from the west. TFTC!

I attacked this cache with great gusto at night with my head-torch upon my head, my one and only cache for the day after a very long day at work. I couldn't believe the amount of and the size of the spiders everywhere around the cache, it was as though they were protecting it, I gently shook the cache away from the 2 spiders attached, then logged my entry! TFTC and the enjoyable walk to it. Cool

Found on an ANZAC afternoon outing with Emmett and June without the use of the GPS. SLTNLN. TFTC and taking us where we would never have gone but for the cache, tofska.

Great secret spot off main trail. Tftc.

15-Mar-14
A great spot to find a cache

01-Mar-14
This one has been on my unfound map for a looong time. I persuaded Mr P that today was the day and some bush, overgrowth or obstacle we were going to find this cache. To start with we couldn't find the start of the side track so we adopted the straight line approach. It got us to GZ and there we found the track to get back. Log damp. +TB t4tc

Thanks for the cache! Smile

Exhibition Drive was very busy on a Sunday morning with passable weather. Any bikes seemed intent on going as fast as possible so we were glad to duck off. We left the Drive at a large marcrocarpa but just under 200m to cache because there was a visible track. The rest was surprising and fun. NINO TFTC

Was always curious about this pipe.
