Been in the South Island visiting the grown up kids who are on Uni holidays. Travelling home but mechanical problems means an extended stay in Blenheim. Well more time cache and today we hired bikes to cycle to some of the wineries. Would highly recommend it although July may not be the best time in terms of temperature. Quick detour here. Not sure what the structures for but it’s useful for generating smileys. Thanks
Quiet, pretty road to go down - thanks for bringing me here woodfamilyinnz
No idea what the structure is....perhaps something to do with loading/transport, but I don't think of the rail variety. Could be wrong however. TFTC

Easy hide in a quaint, quiet, beautiful road in a picturesque setting. Thank you for taking me here and TFTC! From New Jersey, USA
Definitely is the end of the road, but an interesting item there too. Cache found quickly. tftc
Found with Ulmuslynx and my daughter.
Arrived at GZ and it wasn't long before the cache was in our hands.
Very clever hint.
Thank you for the cache

Back in the area today ater a delayed ferry crossing due to the high winds, bit of a bumpy ride, but got a couple of hours caching in, many thanks to all the cache placers - Bitsprayer
My GPS was putting me about 6 metres out towards the road. Found it anyway, knowing where it would be from the photos, logs and hints. Try S41 28.426 E173 54.946 if you're not quite there.
Pretty easy found before leaving the car need to be better hidden left a few lollies
Found it strait away! Our littlest member 8, has the eye for it! Ps I didn’t see it!!!
I needed to use up my free AMEX flight and with no family trips planned, a day trip to Blenheim was arranged. Lots of cache varieties and different difficulties as well. There were too many caches to do individual logs. Thanks to all the COs. TFTC.
A fairly quick find, although extraction was rather difficult, as the cache was almost buried in mud. The coordinates seemed pretty right to us, certainly more accurate than the Seagnoid's coordinates referred to in the cache description, which were nowhere near. TFTC
A nice quick find, coords werre 10-15m out for me. Cheers.
Today was a day spent cruising around Blenheim, waiting for the late ferry to leave. I was so hot today, >30 degrees. The aircon in the car was working overtime.
Thanks to all of the COs for placing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

Quickly found this morning with hingis20. Roaming the countryside in search of and caches that have previously escaped our clutches. I am visiting NZ from Victoria, BC, Canada. TFTC

Riding to the end of the road we found another end of a road , quite puzzling:-))

Today we mostly targeted PnG caches to help boost our July numbers to go towards a challenge in the North Island, The weather was sunny but still with a chilly wind so was always warmer in the car than out of it. We managed 57 cache finds and ended the night on a high note with a FTF in the fresh snow and dark at St Arnaud. Overall we totaled 107 finds for the weekend - blowing the challenge out of the water!
A quick find in the chilly strong wind. I made the mistake of sitting down while I signed the log and the concrete was absolutely freezing on my bottom. Thanks for the cache

Found it no problem ... Its a siding so trucks can pull along side to be loaded similar to a railway siding that's my guess TFTC
Another Sunday afternoon blitz around Blenheim with Jo and another dozen or so knocked off. Thanks everyone for the caches good fun exploring places we've never been to before.
I think it's for elevation for gondolas to tip grapes into trucks then off to the winery.

Have been meaning to find this cache for many months but only just got down here this morning..thanks.
Out and about on a pleasant Thursday evening with Kiwimykl, converting caches into smiley faces. He has already found this one which could have made it easier for me, but I didn't need his help for a QEF.
I've no idea what the feature is used for, maybe some sort of loading ramp???

O Boy!!! what a full on 5 days caching. Driving/Sailing to attend the Christchurch Mega Event with Squirrel Nutcase and also picking up caches on the way to help us complete our Dot Days and Challenges we are currently trying to fulfill. We traveled to so many places that we have never visited before and with 240 plus caches later knew we had an eventful few days.

With Gap (of Fap and Gap)...
On our way to NZ Mega Christchurch 2015, and caching as we go. We planned to stay close to the main highway and only venture off into the countryside where appropriate... That didn't always work for us. A 4-5 hour journey ended up taking us almost two days; such was the sheer number of caches we encountered along the route.
We are pleased to report that almost all of the caches we stopped for were in place and in good order. Besides a bit of dampness, there was nothing of concern. This is a feat that cache owners in this area of the country can be proud of... We thank you... Thank you for bringing to our attentions areas of significance. We enjoyed discovering scenic areas, historical and social locations, and other personally meaningful spots.
As stated, we found loads of caches... If we were to write an individualised note for each one, we'd never get the logging done. Hence, there will be a lot of cutting and pasting going on... My apologies!!
Marlborough: A quick find in a quiet, out-of-the-way location. It helped that we could see the container on approach. TFTC.

I am just spending one night in Blenheim before moving on down the line. So the afternoon was spent signing off a few caches along the road towards Nelson as well as along the Wairau River.
I was wondering when the next train would come along
Cheers for the cache.

Sooooo exciting! Our first geocache adventure and we found one in an area we walk every week. We have been such muggles!
Mrs Waimearev had a day meeting Marlborough so Waimearev tagged along and spent the day ducking and diving geocaching. Thanks for the geocache hide.
Quiet spot down this lane.... No idea what the structure is for - but kids would have fun on scooters and skateboards?

Out on a Road Trip to complete a Challenge Cache and pick up the 10+ Fave Souvenir.
Mission complete, so now to find a few smilies before it is time to head home.
I kinda had this on my to do list. Not sure why but I remember when it was published and it took my fancy.
Lots of Islanders working in the Stoneleigh vineyard on the way in but nobody anywhere near GZ.
Looks like a railway platform but surely isn't so it must be some type of loading platform. Not been in much use lately though.

I've overshot the road down to this one on a few occasions now so time to put things right. TFTC #6733
#929. This one popped up as the nearest cache after a DNF nearby. But it took a more roundabout route to reach it. Once at the GZ I went for one end of the road but chose the wrong option. So had to slush up in the mud to the other end. A quick feel and soon had the cache in hand. Signed log in the car to avoid getting it wet in the persistent rain today. Then drove up closer and returned the container to its nice wee hiding spot. TFTC
I didn't get an opportunity to pick up a cache earlier today due to being on duty overnight. I was going to call in here on the way home but ended up coming out for a look after dinner. The structure appears to be for helping load trucks during the grape harvest, maybe it allows bigger trucks to be filled from the Gondolas. Anyway it made for a nice handy Park and grab cache to keep the streak going. TFTC
Called here this afternoon for a quick find. The listed coordinates weren't bad at all for me, only about 4 metres away which is nothing. Signed log, TFTC
It's a miserable day, (typical for a public holiday), and I've got a dose of the man-flu, so I needed a quick and dirty cache to keep my mini-streak going. Handy caches are getting further and further away from home, this one being 3.6km. This one intrigued me with the guesses in the logs as to what the feature may be. As I approached GZ I recognised the structure as being similar to one I've seen at another vineyard, so I guess any connection to trains would be tenuous. I've got no other ideas that differ to what already has been speculated, so I guess we will have to wait until someone with the right background joins the geocaching fraternity. as for the cache, in the end this was a simple QEF.

On the way home from picking up the Girl Spawn we thought we'd stop and see if we could find this. Was a really easy find as it had been left rather uncovered. We put it back where we found it but added a bit of extra coverage. Found with crman1 and FluffyUnicorn02. TFTC
Wahoo....QEF on the way home today. Left it a bit more covered than when we found it, it was a bit obvious to Muggles. Found with coastalmartinis and crman1. TFTC
Spotted this as soon as we got close ....wasn't really covered so have left some extra coverage on it. Hopefully it won't get Muggled. I wonder what this used to be used for?

I had a great Waitangi Day out caching in the area today. Having found another 'end of the road' cache earlier, it was cool to be able to get to another one. I spotted the cache as I got out of my car. A nice quick find here. TFTC, Biggles.
End of the road was appropriate as we approached from one end according to gps but road didn't exist. Tftc. A lovely area
Found on a beautiful and very hot Renwick day. I found that the coordinates were about 3 or 4 metres out, but there was only really one hiding spot, so it was a straight forward find. Would be interesting to know what the ramp was / is used for. TFTC.

Looks like a railway siding but not sure if there ever was a railway that came along here. TFTC.

#9015. An interesting structure; no idea why it's there. Still, lots of space to park next to it! TFTC.
Find #414 for the BAMmJams - Mrs BammJam and the mini-BammJams headed out for a school holiday afternoon of caching, with the promise of ending up over at Makana for a chocolate!
We drove straight up to this one, the mini-BammJams leaped out of the car and had the cache in hand before I'd even had time to tell them where to look - a sure sign that they're seasoned geocaching kids!! They chose a pink mini koosh ball to take out and replaced it with a dice. They then spent some time looking around, trying to work out how a train could possibly arrive here, and decided it must be an 'off-rail' train that came this way... I tried to clarify if that meant a 'truck', but no, a truck is different from an off-rail train, apparently! TFTC!

Whoa..., New Year's Day already. My NY resolution is: start out the way you mean to finish! So, it was bright and early for a start to the day's caching!
The platform is for transferring agricultural machinery from truck to ground and vice versa. One could imagine harvesting machinery arriving this way.
Interesting wee hidden away spot.
Nice straightforward find. Cache in order, log signed; safely re-hidden, just as found.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too

Well, it's obviously not a railway siding. If it was a railway siding you'd be able to see a railway track nearby - - and, unless I am very much mistaken, I don't think there was one. My guess is that, at picking time, grapes are transferred to a larger vehicle here. The contributing vehicles being raised to let gravity work its magic. We did this one as a park and grab. - - - A handy place to park without being in anyone's way. TFTC .
Caching in the rain by now - so it behoved the driver to be helpful. She pulled up within 1 m of the cache, Mrs SoBad used her umbrella to cover her back (and front) and collect the cache and return to the car. 2 signatures later and the process was reversed. We also thought of a railway siding but it seemed highly unlikely here. As the ever reliable Wikipedia says there is a Giffords Circus, perhaps it is a loading spot for elephant rides.
Thanks.
Thanks.
My first thought was this was a railway siding but surely that's not right. Mrs KE quickly found the cache.
Thanks woodfamilyinnz for the cache.

Talk about park'n'grab! With the sharp eye and long arm of Kiwi Friend we barely needed to exit the car! Would have liked to be doing today's circuit by bike but time was not on our side for today's expedition. TFTC
We came here from the Spring Creek end of the road. Thought we were going along someone's driveway. Wasn't until we got to gz that we realised it wasn't a public through road! It looks like a through road on the GPS though Structure looks like a loading ramp for grapes. Cache easy to find TFTC.
The dottiest of dot days and my streak into double trouble, double figures, must be time for a cache.
Grabbed this on earlier today as an option for a nearby but not too close cache. Those closer ones are being saved for other park and grab emergencies. Thought from Geocaching maps that I could drive all the way through here, sadly not so!
When I did consult the in-car G P S spotted the correct turning and got onto SH Gifford.
Definitely a loading ramp for freight.
No problems with the find, all O K and replaced as found

We did not expect such a construction in the middle of the vineyards. Quick find, TFTC
We thought we might have to abort our attempt to find this when someone appeared to be delivering 'mail' along the road but happily they stayed out of sight as we pulled up within 1m of the cache due to perfect co-ords and quickly signed the log. Thank you woodfamilyinnz.
Pretty relaxed even before the end of the road. Why park up to talk with a neighbour if you can just stay in the ute. He was still there on our way back and casually waved. The coords were spot on for us so no probs finding the cache. I think the structure is a loading platform where vehicles pull alongside and then have their deck same height for easy loading/off loading. Thank you Woodfamilyinnz for placing this cache.
[green] Okay, I have to apologise. I went caching on the weekend with my cellphone and found a number of caches sometimes up to 40m out, sometimes (the same cache) only 6m away. I think I have dropped my cellphone a few too many times - it didn't used to do this. Will just have to use the garmin more often...
So anyway, I take back my statement about this cache being 60m away. I'm blaming my cellphone now. Even though when I found this 60m out, I promptly checked against another nearby cache, which I had within 3m. Sigh.

A quick find on our first kid-free caching trip this year (only a couple of hours to work with so we were on a mission!). Never knew this place was here TFTC
[green] Saw this come out but wasn't able to do anything about it at the time. Now 'tis after work. First - still worth visiting? No logs! So on the bike. Head out to the cache. Well, actually, not to the cache. I figure that the coordinates are wrong, it is probably NOT 40 meters into the vineyard. Check the hint - and have a look at all the poles on the end of the vineyard rows - small cache under a stone maybe? No.
Turns out the cache is 67m from the page coordinates. Actual coordinates are S 41° 28.400 E 173° 54.978. And that wasn't the only problem, (I'll email the CO about the other problem). And I missed being first as well. Beaten by GeoPopNZ. And I had a couple of trackables, but alas, they didn't fit . Not my day today!
I've done a series on railways and my first thought was that this is an old railway platform. No railway here, so obviously it is a loading ramp for a inter spacial grape transport (well, its not like we can eat them all here, is it?)

First stop of the day....good one.
Yes, could easily think rail siding, but location suggests loading ramp.
Oh...co-ords....well published ones got me at 8m at cache, so good enough. (I did have GPS on auto-routing, which is not always bang on, but did not need to take that off here.
Thanks for the cache.

FTF Not often that this opportunity comes up for us. So a quick decision to do a detour on the way into town, wondering if some of the other, 'fast-off-the-blockers', would have beaten us to it. But no, a virgin log.
Our guess, this is a transfer platform for the narrow grape harvesters, to the road trucks for the trip to the winery.
Thanks woodfamilyinnz FTC.
