I am regretfully archiving this cache since there's been no response from nor action by the cache owner within the time frame requested in a prior reviewer note.
We parked as described but bank had no gorse or tree. Our phone had us at 2m from cache.
Parked in Breakneck Rd and clambered up the bank, but when I read that the cache was probably on the otherside of SH1 in gorse I lost interest.
No luck today. Even with some assistance from a previous finder, this couldn't be located today.
Was advised this was at a post and quite a way from the coords. But no find for us.
I'm catching up on my logging which seemed to have stalled even though we have been in lockdown, my excuse is that I have been working throughout.
We found lots of the Mighty Oak caches around Oamaru a few years ago, we watch out for other Oak caches - even if not so Mighty!
This started out as a Geocaching road trip to Invercargill to drop off some stuff for the niece and collect some other stuff for Mrs banian. It turned into a bit of a race back to Wellington to beat the Covid-19 lockdown.
We were able to rebook our Ashburton accommodation and ferry ticket to earlier in the week. When we arrived in Picton the vehicle queue was almost a kilometre long, and got longer behind us. Fortunately, as we had tickets we were still able to get on our sailing and made it back before "Level 4" kicked in.
Be nice and keep safe! TFTC Heafudd.

The sky was a odd colour today because of the fires in Oz. A good hide.

Down from Auckland to claim the last 2 Geotour caches and to pick up a heap of others for a challenge I’m working on. Not only that, I’m working towards my 8000th cache, oh where will it land I wonder??
No go for me today, I checked the obvious.
No go for me today, I checked the obvious.
Another of yours found on our way back home after a day in Moeraki - like its other mate it will take time to become one of the mighty oaks but good things do take time.
Could not figure out why another driver was stalking us. Guess she thought she knew us. Well she raced passed us once she realized here error.
A trip up to Oamaru with the K & R part of KJR for the Oamaru on fire night. Had to make a few stops on the way up to grad the ones I hadn't got before. Nice and easy to find. TFTC
A planned geocaching trip with specific targets in mind.
1: The final 2 caches to fill my D/T grid
2: The last 5 caches available (all in the South Island) to meet the NZ Jasmer challenge GC4R9Z6
3: Get as many caches as possible in a day (Solo)
I had no timetable and only a vague route (Christchurch - Dunedin- Invercargill). So after 20 days of sleeping in my tent/car I arrived home having traveled 4500km and visited some interesting places. Met some great people. I had found over 650 caches. That was a lot of park. Jump out out. Find cache sign and return. Then on to the next. All this done by myself. Also attended an event and had 2 FTF
Mission 1 and 2 were achieved and I had a best day of 153 caches. All this done by myself.
Day 13 Dunedin to Herbert Forest 25 caches. All targets have been met. No oaks were seen in the grabbing of this cache. Thank you for the placement

This is day four of a ten day trip down to Dunedin and back to move my daughter to Dunedin so she can get her master’s degree at Otago University.
I am now on the road heading north. I don’t need to make too many miles, so I can concentrate on a few caches.
I never did find the tree, but I did find the cache. TFTC.

The oak is definitely across the road and I also saw a hawk that no longer seems to be able to fly. Cache log was a wee bit moist but signable. Thanks! #3028
No sign of any oak trees so I decided to look around for any other likely spots for a hide.
After a fun and EVENTful weekend in Geraldine it was time to head home - with a few stops along the way of course! With no traffic behind or in front I was able to safely turn into Breakneck Road (what a name!) and make a quick find. TFTC
Day 8 - of our (The Seagnoid, Toby, Zara, & myself) epic adventure around amazing Oamaru. Its Moeraki Boulders today - so lets go.
We are here and so is the cache but no oaks around?? Cheers

It is I don't know how many days since the Geofest yet Taybeedragon and I are still Geofesting, filling in some of the gaps.
I don't get this cache - could not find any oaks here. No adult trees, no seedlings. Has it been removed?

Down in Oamaru for the Geofest. Decided that we would have some extra days here and this had to be the finest of days while we were here. Collected while on the way back to Dunedin heading for home. Hmm not sure about the Oak.
The (major road trip was about to begin) that was for the Oamaru Geofest trip in the company of HKCB and iammrwalker for a bit of a road trip across to the west coast, through Haast and in a roundabout way to Oamaru.
My trip stats were as follows: 617 caches (214 Puzzles), 3300kms, 500 litres of Petrol, 21 hours sleep, 100+hours caching time. THe weather was wonderful and apart from about a 6hour period on the sunday we had fine weather all the way and feel that we made a bit of a hole in the region.
Firstly thanks to all the CO's that put in the effort to to set up these caches and to all the CO's whose caches we did not find this trip, well we are already planning our next trip.
We worked hard at getting specific caches (especially the Geo Art around christchurch and hence our concentration on this area for the preliminary 24 hours. So after a couple of running repairs to the rental vehicle (fuses not working) we were off knowing that all ports could be charged and that sleep was for the weak.
Sorry about the copy and paste logs but that is what tends to happen with a number run of this size. What a day this was going to be and a chance to have a good look around the area. It was amazing to wake up after having afull nights sleep and not have that sand in the eyes feeling and sore back from sleeping in the back of a car. Starting the day off working our way along the coast, followed by a spot of inland caching before making it back to Oamaru for a bite to eat followed by a bit more caching.

Came down this way from the North for the Oamaru Geofest, and decided to add a few more days to the weekend trip and turn it into a bit of a Mega mission, starting 5pm on Wednesday 18th and finishing 3pm Monday 23rd! Teaming up with Cats&Dragons for the first 24 hours then with Iammrwalker joining the team for the remainder.
Just a few of the stats for the trip were:
- 700 caches found, including 270+ puzzles (thanks to the Christchurch Geoart)
- 3300 km's driven, using over 500L of fuel $$$
- Just over 20 hours of sleep (about 4 per day on average), and about 100 hours of caching time.
Certainly a Mega Trip!
Day 5: With a good nights sleep for the first time this trip, we were up early and out the door for another full days caching. The goal for today was to cache our way down to the Moeraki Boulders and then see where the next cache lead us. One thing we were looking out for today was caches which hadn't been found in a long time.
Sorry about the cut and past logs, but that seems to happen with cache runs of this size!

I found this Geocache on a Geocaching mega mission along with Cats&Dragons and HKCB. With only just over three and half thousand Geocache finds I was very much the over achiever in training. We were in the South Island to support the Oamaru Geofest event, hunt down some Jasmar and D/T harder to find Geocaches, lonely caches (those not found in more than 6 months), virtuals and try and meet some milestone numbers. We signed the logs HIC, an abbreviation of our respective Geocaching names, (H)KCB, (I)ammrwalker and (C)ats&dragons. A huge thanks to all the CO’s who placed and maintain the Geocaches we found.
I arrived in Christchurch late Thursday evening having left straight from work and was picked up by my intrepid companions in our four wheel drive rental to find they had already grabbed about 270 finds in the previous twenty four hours. I wonder if the rental company would have still let us have it had they known we would travel 3300km in it before returning it four days later? Our trip took us to Greymouth via Arthurs pass, Ngahere, down the west coast to Haast across to Hawea, Cromwell, Twizel, Aoraki Mt Cook, Tekapo, onto the east coast up to Oamaru and back up to Christchurch via Akaroa and countless diversions and small towns along the way. We slept in the car for the first two nights, grabbing some shut eye between cache finds, taking turns to drive. We rented a small place in Oamaru for the other two nights and appreciated a bed to sleep in and a hot shower. It was an amazing trip, in which I discovered the South Island has some of the most incredible scenery in the world.

I must admit the relevance of the reference to oak trees eluded me until someone was telling me at the geofest quiz last night the significance of the mighty oak series of caches around Oamaru. We did some of those the day after finding this cache. As it was I looked around for an oak tree and it must be most unmighty as I could not see it.
Finding the oak tree or not was not the object of the exercise and fortunately finding the cache was fine. All good here, and thanks for placing and maintaining this cache.

We are in Oamaru for the Geofest, and today we have teamed up with patrol14 to go puzzle collecting! I have rather a lot of them solved around here.
Time for a big drive southwards through Kakanui, Herbert and Maheno. This was a quick find. TFTC, Heafudd.

#14743. Coords seemed a bit out; luckily BH came past at just the right time and pointed us in the right direction. TFTC.
Found with StreetWalkerNZ on day 7 of our road trip to the Oamaru Geofest, taking the scenic route, of course. Today we are travelling from Dunedin to Oamaru, via Middlemarch.
We had spotted boxhill's name in the logbook of the previous cache we had found, not realising that he was just a few minutes ahead of us. We had just started our search when a car came towards us, and slowed down. It was the man himself, back tracking after finding another cache further down the road. Good to catch up and get a pointer about where not to search for this cache TFTC.

I drove up from Dunedin to to Oamaru today on my way to attend the weekend's Geofest Event. I ventured off the main highway a number of times to explore the country byways. There was of course the odd cache to find along the way as well. All in all a very pleasant trip with some interesting places and great views along the way. Cheers and TFTC

Bbear44 and I were spending a few days in Oamaru getting things organised for the geofest.
This is our second full day. We will be camping in Herbert during the geofest. We decided to drive and have a look and on the way look for a few more geocache.
This one took us way too long to find.

Thanks. Heafudd for putting in the effort to hide this geocache. This was find 5082 for me.

A quick find after the more exhausting day in the forest. Quick find - and we still have some oaks left. TFTC
Found in last night camping at forest park. Thanks for all who hid caches. See you in oamaru at mega in Oct 2017.
Heading south for a wee family holiday. Family caught a cheap early flight down to Dunedin this morning...and will spend the day exploring Dunedin attractions...whilst I drive down to meet them...and find a cache or two along the way!
Not quite where I was expecting it to be! A quite spot with traffic droning above. Cheers.

Found with CJ Curry at the end of our day, neither of us wanted to give up, but just as i asked Natalie247 where she found it, the cry went up. hooray!
I decided today to blitz as much of the Herbert Forest as I could within a day. With Hevic in tow, we found reasonably good success. We found this on the way out of the Forest and back onto the highway. It took us some time but a chance remark from a previous log made our find just that much easier. It was still tricky though - it took me the act of stopping trusting my eyes and starting trusting my hands. Still, a victory gave us an even thirty finds for the day. Cheers!
Finally. Gps jumped alot but as we expected made harder for ourselves. Guess this is what many oaks end up as.
This morning started out with CITO in Dunedin and then headed up to the Oamaru CITO with Eve07. Great fun day out with good haul of caches and rubbish
Didn't have any luck here.

I have passed this one before but manages the turn off today. A very well concealed cache that took a bit of tracking down. Did go up to see if I could see the oak but couldn't spot it today. TFTC #8861

This one has been bugging me for a while, ever since we first looked for it with tunfisk, in vain. I decided to give it another go today, and had the container in hand within a minute or two. Admittedly, we went quite a bit higher last time, and were looking around vegetation were the GPS was pointing. Glad to have this one sorted! TFTC!!

We stopped here before our 6 hour walk around Herbert Forest. We could not find. Over thinking it. We stopped for lunch on he way back out and I went to have a look and there it was. Over thinking it as some people had. Tftc
Attempted this cache this morning on the way to Herbert forest, but gave up quickly as it was frosty and cold. After completing the tracks we stopped for lunch by this cache. Found in the obvious place. Tftc
Nothing for us today - stopped both going and coming back, but the cache eluded us among the gorse?

This took longer than it should have. Ignored the obvious spot and then went hunting for a miniature oak tree. Eventually went back to the obvious spot and yes there was the cache. Cheers.
It looks like a race between a struggling oak and a nasty gorse bush. . . and the oak is losing.
We wondered where the oak tree was, and only after we read the other logs did we realise it is over the road. Once we stopped looking for the tree, it was an easy find.
To those cachers looking for "The oak" walk up to edge of sh 1 and look across road there you will see the "not so mighty oak" its the smallish tree surrounded by the gorse with a plaque next to it
First time on a Road Trip caching in about 8 Months, have a great day out this was one of abour 60 odd caches found. Many thanks Bitsprayer
We nearly made this one harder than it should have been but a look at the most obvious place soon had us smiling. Found with debsnz
Give the cache a few years and it might become mighty but i guess still never an oak. Nice quick find on our return trip to ChCh.
