Hmmm Searched around fence line at GL for a while but nada. Im pretty local-ish and I want to keep working at these mint tin trails so Ill be back, after looking at previous logs and realising Im possibly not looking for a tin.Didnt know about the reserve. Cool
Not sure what I was doing wrong at my previous visit. A relatively quick find today. TFTC!!South Australia is the place be for GCA1DNA - MEGA - February 29th, 2024 in Adelaide! Hope to see you at The Great Leap Forward!
#2434. A nice warm and sometimes sunny Horowhenua afternoon, so when JustlookingOO offered her services as chauffeur and guide to help to boost my numbers for the Wheel of Challenges, I jumped at the chance. The mint tin trail seemed perfect, as I had decided to keep going for the hard Challenge. Just 26 more finds required.
So, accompanied by JLOO and my muggle wwoofer Kristina from Hanover, Germany (who quickly got the hang of geocaching) we set off down the road.
Most of my logs were signed with (+ Kristina) to give her credit for helping the search. She may yet join the fraternity!

It’s school holidays, so we are on a mission today to grab the chewy mint trail caches plus others. 30 - 50 caches was our target (we got 33). Junior was pretty cooked by the end.

Chasing volume of caches found in a day with TrinityNZ and matagouri - this series perfect for that. Team name "JMT" was used in log.
Sure lots of wasps around this one - maybe a nest nearby?
Good spotting by TrinityNZ. TFTC

Out and about on this fine Easter Sunday with JustLookingOO and matagouri north of Foxton to work towards some challenges, including 100 finds in April. Hoping for 50 finds today. JL and I travelled up from Waikanae, picked matagouri up in Foxton, grabbed some supplies, and headed off.
I found this one after a bit of looking, but thanks to a previous log which helped with where it might be. Interesting log, with green and red paper.
Thanks for the cache, Popmac.
Log signed as JMT.

Today TrinityNZ, Just_looking00, and I gathered in Foxton early in the morning to launch an assault on the Chewy Mint trail, the KAS trail, and assorted others that we happened across. Our aim for the day was 30 (absolute minimum), preferably 50. Our total for the day was 53, so more than satisfactory. We signed all logs as JMT. Most of the caches were easily found, some were a little rusty, some had wet logs. Where we could, we replaced any dodgy logs.
A slightly different cache type meant a slightly longer search, all the while keeping a weather eye on the number of wasps around. Found and signed with nobody stung. All good, tftc!

Fresh off the success from having located another cache that was a blue face, we thought we would give this one another go. As it was still dark, we were searching by torchlight and Mr Geckoh was about to throw in the towel when Mrs Geckoh spied the cache. Yah, another frown turned upside down. TFTC

Needed to look very low for this. The name is also part of the hint. Signed the log and returned to hide. Tftc
Today started out innocently enough, I was to make my way from Wanganui back home to Wellington. Because it's a long weekend I was in less of a rush than usual as we had another day off tomorrow (Labour Day) so I decided to find a few geocaches along the way, and then a few more, and a few more, and before the day was out I had logged 60 of them (that's a pretty good day for me). This was one of the geocaches that I found:
All good here, cache was found as described after a bit of searching.
Thanks to the CO for placing and maintaining this geocache.
I enjoy every cache I find, and it is only with CO's placing them that this wonderful game continues.

Headed out for an exciting evening caching with Zenla. Tonights plan Paranui Road. Most caches were easily found and in good condition. A few we were unable to attempt due to the flooding. This cache was a little wet but still able to be signed. Tftc
About to give up because was quite overgrown but found in the end
I wrote in the log and concealed it carefully back as found,

No joy for us today! Had a good hunt around but didn’t have any luck
We went caching this morning after some errands and had some free time this afternoon so decided to hit our first power trail on the way to Himatangi Beach. Usually I get wet feet AT the beach but this time it was before…Jumping across stinky mud, stinky cow pats and falling into squishy grass piles that looked safe but weren’t.
Thanks for the trail of caches

Spent a wee bit of time looking without coming up with anything - odd as the other hides sop far have been quick but then GAR called that he would be finished soon so I abondaoned this one in favour of the couple of others along this road.
Heading down to Foxton Beach for a couple of days and had spare time to cache. Just finished what I could of the KAS power trail and now the Mint trail. I parked up my camper van at the cemetery and got out the bike. Personally love combining caching and cycling and it sure gets rid of the parking problem on these small roads. Aim was to do the whole circuit which I did achieve. Great variety of hides and caches. Must have taken a while to put it all together. Happy to see most of the tins are protected by other containers. I recently did a series of mint tins and they were so rusty that I struggled to open them. I didn’t realise there were so many flavours of mints. All but one of the caches were signable and several had new blank logs from recent CO maintenance. Thanks Popmac for the smileys. Nice to have so many in a row. Happy I persevered here after some DNF however as the CO recently confirmed the cache was still here, I wasn’t going to give up.
Found this one on our way to Wellington

Drove up to the Foxton area today with the aim of finding 20+ caches. This was one of 25 I notched up. 17 caches to be picked up along this road and around a couple of bends. Got them all bar one which I suspect has gone. This was the last of the anticipated 17, and the one for which I spent most time looking! Like several loggers before me, I made hard work of locating this one. Perhaps the difficulty rating could be increased to 2.5!
Although I had some idea of what I was looking for (and in the end it turned out to be precisely what I was expecting), it still took considerable time to spot and I came close to giving up! Glad I didn’t! #2739. TFTC.

Heute hat das Entchen Geburtstag deshalb ein paar Caches mehr damit wir die große 1.000 voll bekommen doch kurz suchen müssen Danke für den Cache
Decided to try and grab some of the caches in the Mint tin power trail and this one was easily grabbed. Sorry about similar reports but lots of similar caches. Thanks CO for the series.
#16323. We made hard work of this one. I didn't help that we both assumed it was part of the mint series, and were looking for the wrong type of container. Lots of searching ensued, and lots of grumpiness about getting seeds in socks (eventually we both switched to sandals, which helped with the seed issues).
At long last I read the cache name and that helped proved to be the catalyst need to track down the cache. TFTC.

Day #1 of our four day caching trip to Palmerston North. As it's the first time back in several years, there are heaps of new caches to find .
After attending this mornings event, and checking into our accommodation, we decided to head out west to the cache dense area of various trails. This afternoon it was all about the numbers.
Took far longer to find than it should have as we thought we were looking for a mint container . Pleased when SW made the find, right where I had previously searched. TFTC.

Today was part two of my road trip home to Nelson from Auckland, after picking up my son's "new" car from Napier, taking me from Taihape to Wellington... with time to find a few caches along the way, of course. TFTC, Biggles.
On our way back from the Mega with TeamBOP.
As we did the KAS trail on the way down, the area was needing a few more smiley faces.
Another smiley on the map.
Thanks for bringing me here.

Team BOP have descended upon the Wellington region for the 2018 WENZ MEGA. We have a lot of caches to get through so there wasn’t a lot of down time but it was great to meet most of the locals, CO’s and fellow cachers. My online logs are largely cut’n’pasted because my memory has started to blur many of my finds together so apologies for that. We’ve signed logs as ‘TeamBOP’ or individually depending on log space and time. Lastly a big Thank You to the Team - TNXPro, Davidsonclan, McJandals, NZFlossy, FapandGap & Squirrel Nutcase and to all the CO’s that made this a memorable trip.
Unsure how this alluded us for so long.

Attending the Wellington MEGA, was great to visit from the sunny Bay of Plenty, my finds have been found with my team, and signed TEAM BOP, to save room on logs. We are really enjoying ourselves and its great to see so many different sights. Please excuse my generic logging in advance and there are sooo many logs to do. Many thanks to all you cache owners out there for all your hard work. Heading towards home today, so had to clear a few areas on the way. Cheers.
Stopped here on way home from Wellington Mega weekend.
Quick find here today signed teambop.

On my way to the mega with Squirrel Nutcase and Fap and Gap. Having lots of fun and enjoying the ride and the scenery. It’s what I love about caching - great company and visiting great places. Thanks to all the COs for all their caches Hopefully we see some of them at the mega this weekend TFTC
The Hidden Creatures souvenir hunt is already nine days old and I’m still to find my first cache of the necessary 100. Ahh the KAS animal power trail will do nicely.
With my intended route planned I’ve taken a day off work to grab as many as possible before the weather breaks tomorrow.
But first I’ve planned a few along the way including a few from the ‘Mint tin’ series. This was another of them, but different. Unlike a previous cacher’s log, this was definitely ‘tricky’.
This cache was number twenty today thereby earning me the Gryphon Hidden Creatures souvenir. Thank you for the opportunity and the cache

Today was our first time in Foxton, and we were enjoying the caching. I had noticed this sign on our way past, driving to the end of the road, so it was a quick find on our way back.
Thank you for the cache.
Thank you for the cache.
Attending a Motor Home Rally at Rangiotou School having a couple of hours to spend looking for some caches many thanks
We're staying at Himatangi Beach for the long weekend. It is Easter Sunday and Tim and I came out nice and early to find a few caches before the big boxing match between Joseph Parker and Anthony Joshua.
I'm sorry to place generic logs for all these. I was having difficulty with my mobile coverage here. Some were straight-forward mint tins and some were really quite cool with interesting containers and great camo.
This one took way longer than it should have. Persistence paid off in the end!
The caches were mostly in good condition. All nice and dry, except one or two that were a bit damp.
Thank you

Great to find on a super Easter day as part of the planetary challenge. Cache replaced as found. TFTC
Not sure why but this one took me a while to find. Should have looked there first. TFTC
Early start this morning so I could get these caches before it got too warm.
Nice little series, thanks

Found on the way back home to Ashhurst after spending the day at Foxton Beach with the 4 kids. Only encountered 2 vehicles which made for an enjoyable hunt along this road! Nearly gave up on this one! TFTC
What a day! My son and I decided to go hard out today to see how many caches we could do in an afternoon. We were lucky enough to be blessed with glorious weather, when the forecast had been for showers, so that definitely helped us to get a great result
I apologise in advance for the generic log, but there was no way I would have been able to write up each Cache as I went along, so am logging them now in bulk (sort of)
So we had decided in advance to hit the Chewy Mint Trail, plus a few other Caches along the way, and on the way home, to see how we got along.
The result all up was 40, of which this was the eighteenth.
We had to hunt around for a few minutes to find this one, but eventually we found it and signed the log as "T & T" for myself and my son (Thatweirdguy04).
Thanks for the Cache

After spending the morning at TwigNZ’s work we headed north to do the “Chewy Mint Trail”. With a total of 40 for the day, we were pleased with ourselves, and the fact that we obliterated our past record number of caches in one day made it all the better. We started at “Where have all the golf balls gone?” and ended the day with “Manawatu Rail: Buckley’s Wharf”.
Had a big hunt around until TwigNZ stumbled upon the cache which we nicknamed "Cruel Bison". Signed log and moved on

Cache container quite damp but thankfully the logsheet is water proof! Roll on summer! Thanks for thecache!
Found it but not at given coordinates. Not tied on as I would have expected, and log too damp to write on. Tftc
This was always going to be a bit of a caching trip in the company once again of HKCB. Having though about it and done a fair bit of planning over the past couple of weeks this was a chance for a reasonable clean out of an area that we don't normally get to. So with families in mind, rather than setting out on the Friday evening we left home at 2am on the Saturday morning to make our way south before either the heat of the day or there was too much traffic on the road.
Some stats for the weekend
- Distance Traveled = 1457 kms
- Petrol = 3 x Fills
- Time Away from Home = 42 hours
- Straight Driving Time = 6 hours
- Sleep = 4 hours
- Caches Found = 250
- DNF's = 3
So after a straight forward drive down here this was the first that we located of what was going to be a very long day, and followed by another very long day.
While I apologize that these are 'copy & paste" logs, I would just like to say thank you to all the CO's that have have put out and maintained these caches for us out of 'non-locals' to find. It was a great weekend and we traveled though some amazing countryside.
A key learning from the weekend was that a Mazda CX5 is not designed to ford rivers.
So thank you for the placement, thank you for the cache.

I got a bit of a shock when a pheasant flew up squawking right in front of me as I was searching for this cache. Have to admit, I gave a bit of a shreak which amused Team Geocacher Mr. T. Cache was a quick find when I had recovered my dignity. Tftc.
Came back to finish the trail on our way home. Mr RRR still the 'leg's however with Mrs RRR pointing out exactly where he should head, most were picked up quickly. LOVE a good sign. TFTC
Day trip to the Horowhenua for the purposes of picking up the Paranui Road trail (for an internet challenge). Took a while to find, even with consulting the hint, but got there in the end. TFTC
Was out with my father in law Popmac doing a maintenance check as CO today and I quickly made the find. Thanks for the cache.
This cache was attempted as part of the Palmerston North Power Leg of our "Road to 6,000" Extravaganza for 2016.

Found with barefootguru as part of the 142 in 24 hour cache challenge (GC5EAAX). Sorry for the generic log. TFTC
Apologies for the generic log — Team B&D are up from Wellington to do the 142 caches in 24 hours challenge. TFTC and a great set of power trails up here!
Planned a days caching around a goal of logging 120 caches today to obtain a ruby feat. Unfortunately some of the runs available I had already eaten into during normal
caching days which meant I had to target a few trails with 50 or more minutes travelling time between them, chewing up precious daylight hours.
Left home at 6:30 got back well after 9pm. it was a long day.
I targeted three areas, Bulls, Feilding, and Himitangi.
Another photo op for "maggie" the travel bug.

Today, along with D6NZ, we were attempting to get ruby in the "Daily cacher" feat by logging 120 caches in a single day.
There were a number of trails in the area that we had already eaten into, so while we could hit pockets we lost precious time travelling as we ventured to each new hot spot. Today we planned on west of Bulls, north of Ohakea, skirting Halcombe and Fielding, then topping it off south of Himitangi.
This little reserve was our 91st find of the day.
Cheers.

In the Manawatu for the weekend with some caching buddies- Uncle Sam, NZTravellers, Stik-a-crane, HeMaLuDy. The goal was to find as many of the caches in the area as we could in the space of a day, and we all had a blast jumping in and out of the cars, racing each other to the caches, and laughing and joking along the way, and in we general had an awesome weekend down here.
After a while we started playing "musical cars"- and would race each other back to the cars in order to vie for prime position.... or just to pip someone else at the post..... it was rather hilarious, mainly because of the creative ways of piling into cars or sneaking in just before someone else when you knew they were aiming for that seat. One or two people may have accidently (or not so accidentally) have got sat on!!!!!
We really enjoyed this trail, one of the few trails that we did.... and a huge thanks to the CO for the effort gone to in some of the creative hides!
Apologies for the generic logs.... with over 200 caches found in one day, it was virtually impossible to remember each individual cache!

Our team from Auckland wanted to do a major day of caching, so headed down to Foxton area for a massive day. We got about 205.
Very sorry for the generic logs, but when doing so many in one day very hard to make notes on each.
But a big thank you to all the cache owners for putting out all of the great caches we visited.

We were caching today with a group of cachers that often cache together based in South and East Auckland. We call ourselves SEAC (South East Auckland Crew) to save space on log sheets. Today we were with darthcacher1, purply, NZTravellers, UncleSamNZ, Stik-a-crane and NewLynFam. We enjoyed this series and the cleverness of some of the hides. We just about lost one of our members down a bank at one of the caches - but he claimed he was just taking the quick way down. We had bumped into the CO of this series out the back of Apiti yesterday and so were even more keen to attack this series. Thanks for taking the effort to place the caches here.
Heading towards the Mega. Thought it would be impolite not to grab a few on the way through. Thanks all for the hides.
We struck a few really bad patches where we could find any, We had a good search around but no luck at all.
Thanks
