Very, very close to giving up, so split the difference when the gps was going up & down
211 Picked up the kids from their grandparents and decided on a walk through the Karangahake gorge. Did the windows and pipeline tracks round to the dubbo. Much easier going now, making quick time. Easy find, good for the confidence we have had a few dnfs today. TFTC
Nice view from here. Continuing around to Dubbo 96 track and back along the river. A bit of activity at the mine site.
Thanks for the cache!
Thanks for the cache!
We slept at the DOC campsite and do a nice walk loop the next morning. Very happy to discovered informations about ore mines thank to geocaching !! We really enjoy windows view and glowworms (by night).

Needed to put in some time on the track before heading south to do the Old Ghost Road. Too hot to go to the summit so this made a good loop with plenty of caches along the way. TFTC
Today's program is the Karangahake gorge including all the mining history along the way. It is interesting to see how fast nature takes over when the influence of men is gone. So many buildings are gone and overgrown and all that in a relatively short time.
The trail presents a lot of different types of trail and we started the easy way along the river Whaitawheta with a good path, tunnels and of course geocaches.
The Dubbo track appeared to be much more of a challenge, especially because climbing is not my strongest point. But the totally different track provided us with a new experience and the track is beautifull (and very slippery).
The path for the last part back was less interesting but gave us some extra caches to find.
All together it was a nice experiance and we enjoyed this a lot. There where no other people about after we left to the river track and all the others went back to the carpark along the other side of the river.
We missed the possibility of scenic views over the river, but you cannot have it all.

A muggle friend and I decided to head down to Karangahake gorge today, as a day trip from Auckland, and do the loop hike around Karangahake Mountain and up to the summit. It was a lovely day weather wise and we enjoyed the walk around the mountain. I looked at a couple of spots first on my way towards GZ, but found the cache where the GPSr indicated it would be! TFTC!
Had a great walk around the mountain today with a friend. It was drizzly which must have deterred other people but we had a great time finding caches and having some mild exercise. I have to say that this one took us a little while to find - didn't appear to be where the hint led us, but TFTC
After planning a trip to the bay of plenty for easter to gather a cache or two, it changed dramatically (we thought) when we heard that cyclone cook was about to bear down on this area our hopes had dropped .
Nice quick find here exactly where and how it should be.
Thanks for the smiley and the placement.
the light fading lucky we have a torch.

It is a nice spot. The tunnel was nice cool spot to stand out of the heat. Then I looked up and notice boulders perched up above. Maybe it's not a good idea to linger. Lol! Easy find. Out in the open so covered it with some sticks. Tftc
Once ApacheD and I had set up camp we proceeded to do the loop track and find all the caches on the way. Apache found this cache without any trouble. We had this part of our walk to our selves no muggles around this afternoon.

Loved the unusual rock structures around this area ....just returned from the summit climb and collecting a few caches on the way down ...thanks Yoda for the placement

Today, on a beautiful spring day, we have made a very pleasant 18 km walk, mainly along three trails in the Kaimai-Mamaku Forest Park: (part of) the **Not the HRT walkway**, the **Waitawheta pipeline track** and the **Dubbo 96 track**. Especially the last track was quite a challenging hike and took more time than expected, but overall it was great caching fun and basically the reason that we decided to go caching in this area.
Several caches were not found, in the beginning because they were too well hidden and at the end also because we were running a bit out of time and had to limit the searching time. Two caches were intentionally skipped. In total we have found 14 caches.
Our big thanks to the COs for bringing us to all the interesting places.
*Found behind the rocks, the rest of the hint is abacadabra.*

Completing the loop from Dickey Flat, Karangahake Reserve, Level 7, Dubbo 96 with two of my boys. Grabbing some local caches which have been on the to do list. Magic up on the mountain on a sunny afternoon. Easy find. TFTC.

We were spending a lazy long weekend with friends in Whanga but then, late last night, the rest of the family got the offer of an early morning west coast diving & fishing trip: I'd hardly even blinked & they were gone! I opted to stay behind and meander home today, especially as I was keen to go for another walk in the gorge on my way past. I'd hoped to get up to the summit again but, with heavy early morning rain & low cloud, decided to play safe and stay low. Set off from the gorge carpark to Dickey's flat & now returning via the Dubbo & level 7 tracks - hoping that it'll clear sometime soon, as forecast, but its not looking likely.
Took me a moment here, as GPS was jumpy near the cliffs & in the rain plus I'd approached from above, so was counting 10 meters from what turned out to be another tunnel. Once I twigged, it was a nice straightforward find. Great camo! Cache all good, signed & tried to avoid getting the log wet, replaced & off to the next. Still really glad I opted to walk up here today - it is such a lovely location, despite the weather and the mud. Thanks for the placement.

A good leg stretcher from Karangahake car park, via the pipeline and Dubbo tracks and back down the mountain. Found 8 caches on the way.A quick find of a rather elaborate hide.
Thank You, David

Up very early to watch the All Blacks' nail-biting win over the Springboks into the final of the World Rugby Cup. It left us so hyped up that we decided to make the most of the day and go geocaching! And we knew the very place that would fit the bill... A calming bush walk...
Out the door within the hour, tiptoeing past people sleeping in tents at Dickey Flats, to the peace and tranquility of the Karangahake trails. Great lichen on the cliffs and even greater camo on the cache. Earns a fav from us. TFTC

Today with the start of daylight savings it would have been wrong to not make the most of the extra hours light and the chance to be up the hill all on my own. Today I managed to collect 26 caches and cover 18kms in this part of the gorge. What a magical place up in the upper reaches especillay where there is a distinct lack of others about.
Having taken the wrong track from where I had parked the car (which put me about 40min behind my self imposed schedule) I stopped here as it was my first cache of the day and I was hoping not to have to come back along here.
After having been up to the summit and struck by a spot of madness this was my frst cache along this upper level track. A nice and simple walk here and am certainly enjoying the more level track that what I had faced earlier in the morning. The track was a lot drier than I had expected it to be
This was my sixth cache for the day.
Thanks for the placement and the trek through the hills into areas that I hadn't been before.

Todays Road Trip for us and Squirrel Nutcase was to attempt the Waiawheta Loop Track. Left home about 7am and finally got home about 8pm with mission accomplished plus a few extra caches in between.
12.15pm - Just had to find the right fern, great camo. SLTFTC

A very long day of walking ahead... With Gap (of Fap and Gap). We've been wanting to clear out the concentration of caches in the Dickey's Flat/ Karangahake/ Waitawheta areas for a while now.
We marvelled at the mining remains through here. It's amazing what was done to extract ore at these elevations. We had to really think about the clues for this cache. Even when we found the right place, the camouflage was enough for us to look twice. TFTC.

Arrived here at 6.45am and it was very cold still a nice walk to warm by doing the loop track tftc very good camo
It was time for me to do the big loop walk starting from the main Karangahake carpark, up the Crown Hill track to the Dubbo and then back down, with a few ups and downs on the way.
The hint was wrong for me as I was coming from the other direction. The top was off the cache as there was too much in it. Removed one item and repacked it. Still a tight squeeze.
Cheers for the cache.

Depends from which side you are approaching this cache if it is before or after.... hahahaha.
Nice camo

Stayed the night in Hamilton to be able to make it nice and early out Karangahake Gorge to hike the trails and explore some of those tunnels.
It was an awesome day out for a good hike and at the end of the day I walked around 28km .
Had the container in my hands but took me sec to see that it was actual container. TFTC

Every day we are traveling around is same but also different. Today we had again the pleasure to visit some very beautiful spots and were also able to find nearly placed geocaches. I thank every single owner for placing it and giving us with doing this an other good reason to come here.
Mallorcatommy and I were travelling through the northern island of New Zealand. What an amazing, breath-taking landscape! On our way we did some nice walks, enjoyed ourselves and found great geocaches. Thanks to all owners for nice hiding spots... We wouldn't have been to a few places without these little boxes!
Thank you!
Thank you!
easy find - too busy talking to borie5 and walked rite past the first 3 caches - had to backtrack a bit
Found this one while on the group walk while attending the annual BBQ & campout event. Great hide which had a couple of the group fooled TFTC.
Found this one as part of the anti-clockwise group from the Waitangi weekend event. Had a look in a few of the nearby tunnels. TFTC.
Found with anti-clockwise group during the Waitangi BBQ weekend. Thanks for the cache
Found this cache with the group of cachers walking along the track in the anti-clockwise direction on the hike organised by Greenblat and KiwiLeon for the Dickey's Flat Camp-out Event. Some impressive cliff faces here. The cache was quickly located and we soon moved on. Thanks for hiding!
Found as part of a group, hiking the area as part of a camping out event organised by Greenblat and KiwiLeon. It was a bit of an uphill trek, but well worth the view once here. Will we really be seeing mining vehicles on this road one day? I hope not. TFTC
Was part of the Anti-clockwise group taking on the newly published caches, plus a few others along the pipeline and level No. 7 tracks. We signed the logs as ACW everyone, which made signing the log much quicker. A great day was had and the swim in the stream and the end walk was very much a great way to top of the day. Thanks GreenBlat and KiwiLeon for organising the walk.
After a short break at the gorge car-park, we continued onto this cache. No troubles with the find here.

Found this one with everyone in the clockwise group while attending the Waitangi campout event at Dickeys Flat. A fairly quick find here on our way past and we signed the log "clockwise team" which sped up the signing process, TFTC!
Surprised to see just how many tunnels there are along this track. Found and signed as part of the clockwise group.
Many thanks
Many thanks
Found as part of the "Clockwise 17" group! we have stayed for the long weekend at the Dickeys flat, following the Dubbo 96 and Level 7 tracks and then are going to make a return loop via the Pipeline track.
Loved the camo on this one, I think MorganEd made the find, sometimes you just don't realise how close you are to the cache. Thanks for the hide, this area is beautiful.

Found with the Anticlockwise Team while exploring the area and picking up some new caches. Went part way up this track yesterday to the summit, so it was interesting to explore the rest and see the mining tunnels up close.
Found as part of the great Waitangi Weekend Campout Clockwise group. It was lovely being out in the bush hunting for caches even if I seemed to be one of the last to arrive at GZ each time. TFTC.
Out with the event mob today and with plenty of eyes looking for this one it was always going to be a reasonably quick find (or at least that's what we hoped). The cache was soon in hand, log was signed and away we went. TFTC
Found this one our great caching walk on the Long Weekend . Was fun caching in a group for a change !!!
Thanks yodabeach.
Thanks yodabeach.
Logged as part of the "Clockwise Team 17" during the weekends event nearby tftf happy caching
Interesting area to explore. Came here with KiwiLeon and explored some of the mine tunnels. T4TC
Thanks for bringing us up here. Great views...was surprised how high up we actually were! Love the camo...well done!
Found this one on my way from the valley to the summit. Amazing lot of mines in this mountain. That's heaps of work for little return, judging from the number of false starts in the area. Although, someone must have found something considering the extent of the tunnels and former infrastructure. Ran into some interesting locals on the way back to the main trail. They had some great stories of the area. Cheers for the cache.
Amazing views I've done this walk a few times . 25 mins from the main car park to the cache and now I'll carry on and do a loop which will take me along to dicky flat and the river you see below . Thanks for the placement
2TF Love the walks in this area and the views around GZ are fantastic. GPS took me a bit further than needed and encouraged me to look at the wrong punga. Read the hint and went back to the tunnel to have another go. Took me to a smaller punga and as instructed cache was soon in hand. The camo also makes you have to look a bit harder. Well done with the cache TFTC
Cool Camo! Great spot for a cache. a quick up and back to grab the FTF. Am a regular through these parts and its good to see more caches popping up. Especially ones which deter the FTF glory hounds who only cache when its viable to drive to the GZ.
