I decided not to go back down Laytons gully (the way I ventured up today) and instead picked this one up before heading down the riser. Thats a fine enough adventure for today! Noticing Im a bit short here but trusty walking pole came in handy! Log damp but writable. Many thanks
An afternoon exploring up the Te Whiti Riser with rattll. Approached this from the old fire break, bashed through gorse for the last 50m. Rattll made the quick find at GZ. All good in cache, tftc!
The weather was slightly marginal, but in the end, matagouri and I decided we'd take a chance that it wouldn't rain, and went for a walk on the Te Whiti riser track. Although it was fairly windy, we managed to complete the walk without getting wet at all.It was a bit of a chug up the hill to get to GZ.We tried a couple of spots before the prize was spotted. Thanks for putting this here
Some tricky gorse wacking required but managed to retrieve the cache. Getting up on the bank was easier than getting down! TFTC.
Bit of a struggle to retrieve this due to gorse, but finally flicked it out with Jo9ty and logged the find. Tftc.
We're heading to towards today but eneded up turning around at this cache and heading back down with young tempers flaring. A bit prickly but quick find. Tftc.
A nice quick find although a little tricky to get to! This cache was a little wet inside, I did manage to sign the logbook although my pen was trying to go through the paper. Had a very good walk here today and lots of others out enjoying the sunshine. TFTC
I've started a new objective. To complete my 360 degrees from home. And on top of that I am working a streak so I need a cache today, and I am getting my finds up to 10 per date, so I need 3 caches today, and I am getting my smalls up to 3 per date, so I need one small today. And this cache fits in with every one of those objectives. so before it gets too hot I cycled over and walked up Summit Road. Not the worst firebreak, there is one just south of here with a section so steep it is hard to go up without putting a hand on the ground! So nice. Still sweated a lot though. Did a prefind of two caches on the way up - I'll save those for later in my streak.
My third of three caches on the ridgeline. And two or maybe three missing degrees found. This took a bit more work, but not much. I initaially tried the metal pole, and then my gps realised I was in the wrong place and told me to go back up a little ways. An look on the other side of the track. Nice to see a decent sized container, so I dropped in a trackable. You can just make out the old trail here. Alas, it is mostly gorse.

Found after a lovely afternoon walk and several caches. Beautiful views. Log very wet unfortunately. Needs maintenance please?
After having to abandon out planned caches for the day due to incumbent muggles, finally a nice peaceful spot for some hunting.
Wow this must’ve been hellish to find before they came through and cut down all the gorse. I still managed to get a few slivers just climbing up the bank to it. Thanks for the cache. I didn’t have a pen so I didn’t sign it.
Found this one on an extensive walk from the Wainui Hill Road to Naenae with some detours, twists and turns in between. Once upon a time I had found all the caches in the Eastern Hutt hills, but in the intervening years quite a few more have sprung up. Today's effort was to clean up most of these and find some challenge finals. A pleasant day's walk with Yeetrees, who came along for the company and to find a cache for himself.
Having had a very gorsey experience only minutes ago at the previous cache, I was reluctant to try another full on frontal assault. I manage to work my way around and approach from behind for a successful find. No blood shed on this one.

Met up with Yeetrees up on Hill Road with the intention of getting a cache up in the Regional Park. Looked at the weather conditions and changed our minds as the weather across the valley looked a lot more appealing so we drifted off to Te Whiti Park and the walkway/cycleway above it. A nice relaxed walk up and we were soon at this cache. Could spot the hint item but there was plenty of low lying gorse to get through before getting to the gz. A quick find and everything was in order. TFTC [Find # 4129]
It wasn't until I resorted to the hint that I had any idea where to look. And I certainly would not have gone to that awkward location otherwise. TFTC.
Found on our way along the ridge. Quite a few people out and about on this dull day. TFTC
I was glad I brought my leather gloves some trouser protection would have been useful too.
Made my way along the ECNZ track after coming up the Te Whiti Riser. I tried looking in one place similar to another cache on the track, but didn't find anything. I then went elsewhere and saw where the cache would be hiding but I had to deal with the gorse in order to get to it. Very ouch! TFTC
First trip on to eastern hills, so nice to bag a cache up here. Easy find, TFTC
I went for a run with Dexter the Border Collie this afternoon. We ran up Te Whiti Riser, and along the fire break on the top to this cache. We went back the way we came.
All nice and dry in the cache. Dropped off a TB.
Thank you

Found on a most enjoyable walk up the Riser with a recuperating friend. Track a little muddy in places but the views and the regenerating bush in the gully's are great. TFTC
Needed long arms to avoid the gorse but just made it Our last cache for the day, and we are at the top so guess it's time to head down, but not through the 'no exit' way, looks like that hasn't been used much lately! Tftc
Found on a pretty murky day in the hills, no chance of seeing muggles today.
#2421 Decided it was about time I found some of the caches in the Firebreak close to home base. The opening of Te Whiti Riser track was an extra incentive. Decided to leave the bike at home today however and use Te Waewae Express instead. Amazing views up here! Perfect evening to stretch the legs. Quick find here. TFTC!
#2098 A great afternoon out and about in some of the Wainui hills. Thanks for another smilie
This was my turn around point for today. I will look to approach from Summit Road sometime soon to attempt to find other caches further along the track.
Its about 20 meters off from the no exit but an easy find
No pen today so a photo TFTC 97

#2040. Set off in the early afternoon from Te Whiti Park and headed up the firebreak picking up caches en route to check on one of my puzzle finals and also to put out a new cache. Certainly a steep track up here. After hours on the hills my legs are really feeling it now. Another cache where the CO's information was very helpful. I had searched in the obvious spot without any luck. So had a read of description and hint and soon after had the cache in hand. Signed the dry log and replaced cache as found. Thanks for hiding it here.
Hi, TFTC! Got into caching whilst visiting friends in NZ, coming from Norway, and has been great so far
A lovely walk along the Wainui hills today with tmann421.
A nice quick find here.

Continuing our walk along the 4x4 track with great views ... I couldn't identify exactly where we were but the Wainui local amongst us had a pretty good idea. The hint made for an exceptionally fast find ... extracting and signing the log took much longer! No Scrabble piece in this cache ... so far we had found O and Y - "oy" or "yo" depending on which order the caches were found (oy for us!). Tftc.

#6353. A nice walk from Upper Fitzherbert up to the ECNZ pylon road. Met only one runner along the way, otherwise it was all quiet. Great views. Quick find at GZ. The cache was in excellent condition. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log. Thanks for the cache.
Running the ridge track from the Wainui Hill Road. Cool southerly up here, but not that unpleasant and the views are still good. A few bikes around and a couple of dog walkers.
All good here - TFTC.

Cycling the ridge track on the eastern hills. Scoring caches as we go. A great day out, lots of huffing and puffing and pushing and grinding, fantastic views, and a few thrills.
We weren't looking for an exit anyway. Strange what happens in council signposting departments.
Cache find was straightforward, and all in order; log signed, then safely re-hidden, just as found.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too
The Turtle strikes again!

Early-morning (7:00am) walk before work - just needed two caches today, so left some of the others up here for another time. Worked up a bit of a sweat to get to the top, and then a nice leisurely wander along the ridge. No problems working out where the cache was. Always enjoy it up here!
TFTC!

Found today, tricky little blighter to get this one, luckily we brought our geocaching bag which includes gardening gloves. TFTC
3TF.
Didn't have a chance to come up to attempt FTF on the new caches up here owing to other commitments so waited till I had a free day with good weather and today filled the bill perfectly.
Very prickly finding this one, glad I had suitable clothing to protect myself, except unfortunately for gloves!
As the gorse is likely to get thicker this could be quite challenging later on.

Came for a walk this morning before the rains and southerly came through with the objective of finding all five of the new caches up here. Took the shortest route up from the end of Upper Fitzherbert Road in Wainuiomata. and completed the mission in pleasant calm weather. I wondered why the GPSr was leading me away from the sign and then realised where it was going to be. A quick find - signed log, TFTC
This is at the top of a track I regularly use which takes you to the back of the open Polytech, just across from where I live. Decided to go for the hat-rick of (FTF) before heading home. The track down is very steep, and even with tramping boots on I still managed to end up on my butt a couple of times. TFTC, #7235
