Find #: 3,581Companions: NoneMuggles: A few while walking, none near GZWeather: Grey autumn morningCache condition: GoodI've been in the gardens a few times but never with enough time or low crowd-levels to search for this cache, however today met the criteria. I obtained the necessary details, figured out the required maths and wandered over to GZ where I made a quick find - TNLNSL. Thanks for sharing this attractive spot.

This one took a while to get as on my first visit we searched and searched and could find all the sign so we contacted the CO who checked and confirmed a couple had gone missing. With details of missing signs now in description decided to give it a go but had no luck so contacted CO again to discover we hadnt written down one of the sign correctly. With calca redone cache was quickly located in plain sight. TFTC blacktownman

Finally.
This is the third time trying to find this cache. The first time i was successful in tracking down the signs and calculating the coords for the GZ. Unfortunatly i wasnt able to find the cache when i looked for it at the time.
My second attempt was muggled out with a group sitting near the GZ.
I must have gotten lucky this morning (or i was just blind on my previous visits) because after only a couple of minutes searching i spotted the container and was able to avenge my dnf.
Thanks.

On the way home stopped here for this one. Tried it a long time ago but think I miscalculated and was a long way from where I thought it would end up but didn't have the time to recheck my calculations. Today the calculations worked out nice and at the calculated GZ a quick find was made

With cache in hand we signed the log and replaced as found. Both the cache and log are in good condition. Thanks for bringing me to the area and thanks for placing the cache blacktownman

Some good and succesfull caching in the Parklands and Quakers Hill area. Had solved a lot of puzzles in preparation and also prepared myself for a lot of bike riding. Just had not counted on the weather not playing. Although mostly cloudy and only a few drops here and there, it was the heavens opening up about half way through the day, only 400 meters from the car but enough to get soaking wet!! Numbers, numbers, it is all about accuracy!

What a saga. A slight oversight in the instructions led us on a wild goose chase. Messaged CO who pointed us in the right direction and we got the coords. Went to GZ where Blacktownman was waiting to greet us, but too many muggles meant we couldn’t grab the cache. We came back a few hours later to make the find. TFTC!

Had a bit of time before catching up with a friend to tick off a few smileys she had already found in the reserve. Muggle at GZ as I parked nearby so headed off to try the others until he’d moved on. After an hour wandering what paths were open (no cars allowed), was only successful with this and one other due to roads closed, covered in flood debris or still under water.

I was on the push bike, so it was quick and easy to gather the required numbers. Quick find at GZ. Blends in well though. Thanks BM for a local one.

I came here on a very hot day, the whole place looks so dry, how we need the rain.
It’s a great location to visit and was wanting to explore more however the gates were closed due to the bush of fire possibilities, will return another time.
Anyway I managed to find what I needed and at GZ soon spotted the cache, once duties done headed home.

Lovely International Gardens. The first time I had encountered this concept here in Australia was in Fagan Park near Galston. What a great idea!

Multi-caches are not generally my favourite, but only because they often involve a lot of work and often end up with nothing to show for it when a waypoint is missing or when I run out of time to complete all the stations.

So it was a relief that this one ended up as a smiley on this hot day. I still had a long cycle home on my bicycle, so this it where I had to bid some other cachers adieu and then head on back to Castle Hill.

01-Dec-19
Today we headed out to Narragingy Reserve at Doonside for the Geocaching NSW 10th Anniversary Christmas Party Event, catching a 280 bus to Chatswood and a T1 train to Doonside, then walking the short distance down Cross Street to the reserve. And after enjoying the fun filled Event we joined some other Event attendees in a pleasant “cache collecting” stroll around the reserve, before returning to Doonside Railway Station for the return journey homeward. This was the 8th of 9 finds for the day.

We had visited some of the waypoints for this MultiCache on our way down to the GCNSW Christmas Event today, but made the find at final GZ with the group of Event attendees that we had been caching with after the Event, and so added our mark to the log with them. Our geo-group then disbanded to go their own ways but, not being ones to "shortcut" a MultiCache, we decided to visit the remaining gardens & signs to fully complete the quest. TFTC blacktownman.

Parked the car in the car park and then had a lovely stroll around looking for the wooden signs. Sat in the car with a pen and paper and did the calculations. Worked out where GZ was and walked over to GZ. The cache was found after a short search. The log was signed and then the cache replaced as found. Thank you blacktownman for placing this cache.

Well we made this more difficult than it needed to be. Found the green signs without too much difficulty, wrote down their names, but then came the confusing part- four signs but we needed 7 numbers, what were we missing? We tried a number of things - first breaking all the signs int individual words then alphabetising the words and giving them a number.. nope that didn't work. Next we tried leaving the sign names in tact, alphabetising them and then counting letters in individual words again. Then tried what I thought has to be the way to go based on past logs, that being to count the letters to yield 2 digit numbers and then allocate a letter to each digit. Seemed straight forward but the coordinates pointed over a km away... so we gave up and decided to look for other caches in the area. While walking around some half hour later it suddenly hit me... In my last method attempt I had forgotten to alphabetise the names first .. so found a nice place to sit.. got out the pen and paper again, went through the calculations and yielded some coordinates that looked a lot more likely.. As I was putting them in the GPS I came to the amazing realization that each of the numbers matched the numbers already displayed on my device... what the,,, turned around and there was the geocache. What are the odds of that! Thanks for the cache- glad we got there in the end.

A walk around Western Sydney Parklands with my dog. Of course not just to walk, but also to find as many caches as possible.

From the outset this cache does not seem too difficult; walk around and find a few green wooden signs. So I started walking around and found 3. Then I walked around again and found the fourth one. I then sorted the answers in alphabetical order and took the letter value of the first letter of each word. A weird coordinate, outside the gardens, was produced.

Reading in more detail, I had to find the number of letters of each of the four signs. Now I was not sure if I copied the whole text into my notebook, so I did another round along the different gardens.

Now I did have a convincing answer on paper and I walked over to GZ. I looked around for a long time, using the hint, but it is amazing how long it took me to see the bison tube that is actually in plain sight.

Thanks for the cache!

Without Gatherer Hade, I wouldn't have worked out why I was missing too numbers. The 4 numbers from signs when placed in order will give you 6 digits.

Very fun, still had to do a bit of searching at GZ. TFTC!

**Total find count: 561**

A warm Sunday afternoon to get back into the geocaching swing of things after some downtime from caching. Some relatively easy finds, an avenged cache at muggle central every visit, and some DNF's for the day.

------
After working through the 'puzzle' a few months ago, my first understanding of the 'puzzle' gave me numbers that made no sense. After sitting down to reevaluate the 'puzzle', something finally clicked and a legitimate set of coordinates popped out.

A few weeks later I came to make a find, but there were muggles at GZ. The same happened on two more occasions since.

Today, GZ was finally muggle free. I moved in for the search and my gut instincts were all wrong. I looked at the map and the marker had me in a different location. But after reading the hint, my gut instinct had the right location, just the wrong elevation.

Eventually the cache was found and log signed.

CACHE #79

Found at 11:18hrs. Thank you for this cache, I really enjoyed the walk, the scenery and of course the find .

Like others, I too had an issue with co-ordinates being a negative number. The key is to note EXACTLY what is written on each green sign (do not shorten it), and to complete your calculations from there. This way, you will get the correct co-ordinates.

When I reached GZ, i was foiled by muggles, so sat on the bench and waited them out. 10 minutes later, CIH and signed duties completed. Once again, TFTC

Quick little multi today. Tftc

15-Sep-18
Thanks to Gatherer Hade's translation from SMS text to proper English I was able to complete this multi without the confusion of many others. Despite that I enjoyed the stroll around the grounds with Zelda the geodog. At GZ we had very little trouble in getting our paws on the cache.

Thanks for the multi but it would be advised to use correct grammar and punctuation to make this easier for others to interpret. TFTC

15-Sep-18
How about that? We (somehow) got the calculations correct and we arrived at GZ without issue, but got hit with cacheblindness right at the critical moment. After regrouping, a return trip was made and the clever little cache was found, right at the final location, as would have been expected from the final coordinates.

Okay, cache experience mentioned? Alrighty.
So. Had my eyes on this one for a while but, well, the description was admittedly a little confusing, and therefore a little intimidating to approach. Thankfully with perseverance (and a quick peek at the logs to notice the CO plainly stating the methodology) we managed to get to the end of this little multi excursion.

Finally, I don’t suppose it would be worth bringing up the confusion a particular word in the hint can cause? Maybe switch it to a word that better matched what was actually at GZ? It’s not like the park and its varied gardens and pavilions are suffering from a lack of a trellis or somesuch...

15-Sep-18
Having had previous experience with cache descriptions by this CO, we were able to interpret what was actually meant. So, while attending the celebration event in the park, 3 teams went on the hunt for the required signage. Some debate ensued about 1 sign and co-ords were worked out which took us to a likely area. The hint object was not spotted straight away, but eventually a familiar object was spied and the cache was in hand. Thanks urban_cachers for this multi cache.

I'm glad I had bikerbuddy here to help me with this multi, as my head started spinning trying to work out a = a+f. I drew a few mandelbrot sets then had bikerbuddy explain it to me slowly.

But whatever means I used, I at last had GZ and found the cache after looking in a few wrong spots first.

Thanks Smile

I found this cache very confusing and frustrating, so much so that I gave up and will put it on my ignore list.

18-Apr-18
Not sure y ppl r having so much trouble with this cache.
there is 4 green signs to find then put them in alphabetical order, then count the
number of letters in each sign and those numbers become "a" through to "g".
from there do some simple maths to find the coords. whats so hard about that?

Having found this one pretty incomprehensible after a long walk around looking for signs, I'd left it for quite a while. But recently I'd been contacted with a bit of advice on the way forward with the information I had. Well, I wouldn't have thought of that! No wonder I was totally stuck.

So today I came back and did a quick walk around to recheck the exact wording on the signs. And then I heard the thunder. And saw the lightning. And the big drops started, so I ran for the main building where I did my calcs under cover.

OK, there. I'd actually come here on my first visit. Never knew how close I was.
The rain stopped and I made my way to GZ. Took a few minutes before I spotted it. CIH!

Completed signing duties and replaced.
Thanks to my EAF who elucidated the method required here.

###END OF FIND REPORT SECTION###

Now...
One of my tasks at work - before I retired - was rewriting the reports of others so that they make logical sense. You would not believe how badly university graduates can write (and I don't mean just spelling, typos, etc, which everyone does). Or maybe you can.
Like it or not, the description here really does need to be rewritten. So here is my go at a few select parts of it (which I'm sure is not perfect either). The CO is free to use this if they wish.

***To determine the location of the cache you will need to go around the International Gardens and find the wooden signs with the names of countries or regions of the world.
Once you find the signs, put the names in alphabetical order based on the first letter on each sign.***

***Then count the number of letters on each sign. The resulting set of numbers comprise seven digits.***

***These digits then become, in order: a b c d e f g***

#4403- This cache has been on my radar for a long time, but I've never had the time to do it when I've been nearby. Years ago we did an old RAGGs cache "Weddings, parties and Anything" in this park, which had bikerbuddy doing some interesting movements to retrieve and return it, so we know parts of the park.

Seeing it was going to be hot today, I rustled bikerbuddy to head out early, get some steps in and to try and clear one of only two non smilies in that area.

This park certainly has lots of variety. I had been to the blacksmiths hut and some picnic areas before, but had never walked the many beautiful gardens at this end. The Chinese part with its bridge and pagodas was particularly beautiful this morning.

Still, I hadn't felt hopeful. as many have had trouble with this cache, and I can see why.

We parked and started to wander along the path, having seen that the old sign near the gate, that I think you once needed, you no longer do. In our travels we found a map showing some of the different regions, but we didn't need it either.

We found the four signs relating to the regions, only one of which was a country, on our first lap around and got the numbers we needed, but then... what to do with them? We didn't have 7- we sat down and pondered what to do. How were others getting it and we weren't? Then suddenly, I had a thought- let's try this....Not what I would have thought to do, but yes! It worked and it turned out the cache was within a metre of where we were sitting.

I wish we had read KRS's log and it would have been a much quicker find, though it looks like we have been one of the few who worked it out without help from anyone else.

I like the idea behind this cache, and the places it took us, but I definitely think its more than a 1-1/2 difficulty, possibly about a 3..... Nevertheless, a favourite from me. Thanks urban cachers.

25-Nov-17
I've looked over the logs for this cache since this morning when the WaywardWoman and I went to find it. Her log outlines the trouble we had. We actually found the four signs we needed quite easily, and a sign in the vicinity substituted for the sign that appears to now be missing. Here's two issues we had:

* we doubted the signs at first since most of them aren't countries at all. However, we decided that the signs with regions were what we needed, despite the cache notes.

* we were confused at only finding four signs, then realised the hint says that was all we would find. We then had the head scratching problem of getting 7 numbers from four signs, however, the WaywardWoman finally worked out what should be more explicit. We have since noticed that Kid Ron Satan has made it more explicit in his log, but it should be explicit in the cache notes.

Having scratched our heads for a bit we were on the verge of giving up. But I suggested we go somewhere and take one last look at the information we had. That's when the WaywardWoman had her epiphany. We did our calculations and realised we were right next to the cache.

Now that we have completed the cache I can see what the intended method is behind it. However, given that almost all the people who have found this cache to date have needed help from the CO or previous finders, this must indicate there is something wrong with the instructions, since this is actually a simple multi once it is clear what to do. I think they need rewriting.

This cache would be well deserving of a favourite if these issues were addressed. Thanks

Finally got this one. 3rd visit. Thanks to CO for confirming my calcs were correct. Thanks for the cache.

25-Jul-17
CO confirmed that the sign just inside the gates showing locations of the various gardens has been removed. Will attempt again soon.

24-Jul-17
Drove into the park and picked up the two traditional caches by bike. Then tried to find the sign inside the gates. Went around by bike three times. Can CO confirm that the sign is still there as I'm either blind or stupid.

Cache still in place and also did a walk around found all 4 sogns still in place even had a go at the calculations and got correct coords. all is good as it should be

Out with Team Merlin to pick up this cache. Located WP1 where information was gathered along the path we located details required. Once more around provied the one detail that was missing. With all information obtained we then determined GZ. Making our way to GZ with muggles glarore once clear the Geoson made the find. After both signing the log we replaced as found. Both the cache and log are in excellent condition.

14-Apr-17
With a family picnic today we took the opportunity with JJCC to seek out the necessary information required for this multi. A bit like muggle central today, but that didn't worry us in the hunt for the wooden signs. After completing one circuit we had three sign plus another wooden sign which was a little different to the rest. Doing some calculations and the information didn't gel, so we walked the circuit again, but this time in reverse and it was during this run that the fourth sign was spotted.

Calculations completed and we headed to GZ. A few muggles about, but waiting allowed us to check a few spots and consult the hint. It was the geoNephew that spotted something that matched the hint and then he spotted the cache container. After both signing the log we replaced as found. Both the cache and log are in excellent condition.

The following TBs came through for the mileage: Bob geoMinion, Dave geoMinion, Evil geoMinion, Jerry geoMinion, Larry geoMinion, Stuart geoMinion, teamMerlin's 7 Deadly Ducks Tag (Lust), The Hulk & Vanlith The Youngling.

Out with Trodectus, was expecting this to be much harder due to previous logs, but turned out to be straight forward. Found the 4 signed and worked out new co-ords. Arrived GZ and after a short search had CIH. Log signed and replaced. Definitely easier to do in autumn/winter. TFTC

26-Jun-16
Found with Coybear2000. We had noticed that this one hadn't been found for some months, so we had a look at some previous logs before setting out. We anticipated that it wouldn't be straight forward. We arrived at the reserve, there were plenty of muggles around, and we soon found the 4 signs. We followed the CO's instructions and had the first set of numbers, and then the final six numbers. No problems. We put our final co-ords into a GPS and headed there. Not many muggles at this spot thankfully. We only looked in one area and C soon had CIH. This certainly was a lot easier than what we expected. We then walked around this area a bit more. TFTC

28-Sep-15
Well after a bit of to & fro-ing with the CO & a past finder I ended up with some numbers which gave me good coords. So I went back today.

The description is a bit confusing as some of the areas aren't actual countries (& the biggest country of all doesn't have a sign so isn't included.)

Having worked out the coords it was a nice quick park & grab today - so didn't have to risk the swooping magpies again. TFTC

well thankfully I had really only come out for a wander and a cache would have been a bonus because I couldn't get a good answer for this one.

The entrance to the park has been all tarted up & rerouted & there is no sign / map that I could find anymore. I found the entrance to the garden and wandered about. There are "beware swooping magpies" signs everywhere - and they aren't kidding!

Found 4 signs (although there wasn't actually one for the biggest area -not that I could find anyway), but the calculations, like GH's had me with a minus number. And some of them aren't really countries. Then I wandered off to another nearby cache. Came back to the top of the waterfall and discovered another country! Tried the caclulations again - still no joy!

I'm sure I'll be back sometime.

#442 - Garmin eTrex 30

This was the only find for today. After my doctor's appointment, I wanted to find my daily cache but didn't feel like driving too far. I remembered I had determined the coordinates for this cache sometime ago and decided it was time to visit GZ. I parked the near GZ and although a few muggle were around, none bothered me. I took in the hint as the GPS ran down to 0 m but I couldn't find the mesh. After some intense looking, I soon realised I had a different idea about the mesh and then realised which side I needed to look on. This also took sometime but I finally looked at the right angle and saw the cache hiding amongst the overgrowth. SL. TFTM.

Decided to head west towards the Western Sydney Parklands this afternoon to grab a few caches not grabbed before (or newly placed since last here). Looked for seven and found six.
END OF CUT AND PASTE SECTION
I'd attempted the First2Find on this one, coming away frustrated at imprecise instructions.
Since then I'd looked at the four signs I assume are correct, but can't get logical coordinates - the new calculations result in a negative for at least one of the variables no matter what I do - based on comments by people who have somehow deciphered this.

So back here I thought I'd recheck to make sure I hadn't missed a sign. After walking the gardens again I was still left with the same 4 signs I've been working with - only one of which I note is actually a "country".

No point doing more until the instructions are actually rewritten logically into English.

Off to a trainspotter.

I gathered the information when I was at the reserve last Friday but was a bit puzzled when my calculations didn’t make sense. A subsequent check of the logs suggested a different way of looking at the numbers and I soon had good looking coordinates.

This afternoon, I stopped by on the way out west to pick up the cache. It took a while to spot but persistence paid off and I eventually had CIH.

I was waiting to find some caches with midmy7, artemidorous1 and arwen21. They were getting late so we decided to find a few caches while we were waiting.

This was our first cache for the day.
I really liked solving the multi and cycling around the gardens.
It took us longer than we thought to find this cache. In the end Geodad found it.

same cache container and log but new location so phoning a friend who already found it prior to now won't help you. sorry for the trouble

Well now! This cache proved to be more difficult than it was made out to be. I arrived at the suggested gardens but could only find one of the countries. The others were of regions of the world, so I added these into the equation and started to add up the sums but nothing worked. Than I change something and it all made sense and I soon had the co ordinates for GZ. When I got to GZ, I kind of knew where to look and struggled to locate the cache, so I PAF to confirm GZ and after a further 5 minutes of looking, I had cache in hand. Did the legals and replaced as found. TFTCM

Streak Day #564 - Joined forces with ris768 for this one, read the description and logs so we knew what had to be done, was a nice walk in the drizzling rain. Once at GZ we focused on one area but then made a PAF to confirm the correct area to look and voila CIH. TFTC

I read through the description and some logs and said to snoopy I know what to do. Took the geodogs for a walk around the international gardens and found the required info, calculated GZ and headed off. We looked and looked and once I started getting eaten by mosquitoes I succumbed to a PAF. SL #1764 on streak day #935 TFTC

25/1/15. 9:18 AM. Cache #2199. Streak day #217. 3rd of 7 caches today. I came here from "Park Gym", which was well over an hour ago, so this multi took quite a while. I did a couple of circuits and had a rough idea that I had found all of the wooden signs (confirmed by the current hint), but I got confused with what I was doing with the info, so I had to discuss this with a couple of past finders, who soon set me straight.

So one of the signs has n letters on it, where n is a single digit between 1 & 9.
The other signs each have a 2-digit amount (i.e > 10) of letters. This gave me my 7 numbers for a to g but then applying the calculations from the description, I soon had the final a to f that went into the GZ coordinates.

I then used the hint to make a reasonably quick find (well, I was only at GZ for a brief moment when I found the cache, even if the rest of the multi took me much much longer). After putting the cache back, I headed to the car and decided the rest of the morning would be for some older caches around Acacia Gardens, starting with "Water Towers #01". TFTC }:)

Thought I'd give this one try today. After reading the previous logs I had some concerns about finishing it in the heat.
At the starting point I made my way down the path through the gardens, and writing the clues down on a scrap bit of paper. Did the calculations, and what can I do with this? !
After a PAF and found out that I only needed info from 4 signs, I redid the calculations and made my way to gz. Finally found it as my second paf answered.
A good idea for a multi, bit it still needs work on the descriptions to make it less ambiguous.
Thanks for the cache.

FTF- Under grey skies but at least it's not raining, back of my mind is how good will the GPS work this afternoon with heavy cloud present.
Arrived to have another go for the FTF. And parked in the exact same bay as yesterday, déjà vu, maybe. I'd received a call from TC if I was going to attend, yep, deficiently.
I had found the only 4x wooden signs already, but firstly re walked to re-check. Kindly met with the CO to see where things went pear shaped as per his log. Must say the many GZ's I had worked out yesterday weren't going to be helpful to me. I had misread the equation in front of me and confused myself, not hard to do.
Today went over again with a different GZ again and CO says maybe, so left him at the kiosk and used arrow to guide me.
Arrived and searched the obvious, no luck, so moved to another item. Felt that I'd exhausted the hiding spots, travelled to a likely Cachers hide, (GPS is not my friend today). Upon walking there two simultaneous things occur, CO arrives and TC SMS to me he is 5mins away.
CO asks me if my GZ and oh it's back over there. Okay, this is when an error is made aware on the page question.
Okay, with an extra hint given, I proceed to the new GZ, where I amused the CO on my search pattern. After an extensive search, CIH, signed log, walked back over to old GZ where is placed iphone to notice many calls from TC, to go through it again.
Nice to catch back up with you guys from last times meeting at an event in Rouse Hill.
Thanks urban_cachers

A lovely area to explore. Soon I had the signs spotted and had some numbers. Then I turned these into likely coordinates. I wandered over to GZ for a long search till I found what was in front of my nose!?! I signed as 2TF.

I have offered advice to the owners for helping this experience.

2TDNF- photo taken of the sign at park entry then continued on to finally find a spot next to a six post open pavilion that serves entry to the gardens. Witnessed packing up of tables and chairs to a wedding, grabbed umbrella and off for a stroll around the gardens.
After a stroll around taking photos of signs, returned to the vehicle to nut it out.
Over a million dollars has been spent just on the Chinese garden side with marble archways, marble bridge, pavilion, and the rest.
Now, like Gatherer Hade, I too must be missing something as I had trouble in making the maths work. Anyway TFTH

First to DNF!

After grabbing First to Find at Prospect Highway Underpass (Walking/Cycling) I noted still no finds on this one. Probably not surprising as it involves a long walk in the rain.

But ever the sucker for a chance to be first... and I have a big umbrella in the car.

Well, it started out OK, but this all turned strange on me. Maybe I've missed something here. I'm assuming there are 7 garden signs I need, given I'm after letters 'a' to 'g'.

Well, I found nine, five in one sign format, the other four in varying formats... And as far as "countries" go, didn't get seven of them, either.
So after an hour wandering in the rain I have nothing to show for it but a nice walk in a pleasant spot (including seeing a wedding in one of the gazebos - so not all bad.

As I said, hopefully I've missed something here.
