Logs
Sitting at camp last night, I spied this cache sitting out there in the bush about 1½ kms away.
Thus a plan was hatched to get an early start before it got too warm
Just after 6am I bounded out of bed and hobbled off along the 4WD track in the general direction of GZ.
As I strolled I got a good view looking across The Basin toward where the cache lay [:o]
I almost turned around at that point
Yikes !! That looks like a slog !!
I followed the tracks for another few hundred metres until they ended about a km away.
The only way was up !!
Through the scratchy scrub,
and over the rocky ground.
Following the spur upwards I reached the caches elevation,
but still several hundred metres to the east.
The going got tougher [:o]
Lots of ups and downs as I dodged around the thickest scrub and steepest slopes.
Finally !!! I was only about 100 metres from GZ
And about 60 metres above
The only way was down !!
20 metres to go and one last battle with some scrub and I was standing on a precipice
I broke out the fizzy cola and took a seat and stared out at the views
About 10 minutes passed before I could muster the energy to have a look for the cache.
The GPS was pointing to a rather interesting spot [:o]
I scrambled over to said spot.
Luckily I don't suffer vertigo
With the cache's hiding place located,
I grabbed the prize and retreated to somewhere safer to sign the logbook
Crikey !! It's almost 5 years to the day since this ammo tin has been opened [:o]
And today was only the third time the cache has been found since it was hidden over 7 years ago !!
How unloved can a cache be ?
At least the return journey was a teeny bit easier,
as it was mostly downhill, and I now knew where the vegetation was at its least thickest
I stumbled back into camp at 9:30am with a few new scratches, sore legs, and a sense of a job well done
TFTC ... It's a beaut !!

I have been here several times over many years, always with a rifle in hand to harvest venison for our freezer. I love this spot and have often eaten lunch here, which is not unlike today. The going is alway tough, but worth it.
Today my mission is to visit some seriously unloved caches and this one is over 2 years. It was my privelege to be able to walk in with my geoson (who needs the driving hours) and experience a beautiful summer's day in a truly beautiful part of Australia.
Clever Monkey, you have done geocaching proud with this one, thanks. Worth a favourite for sure.

I was fortunate enough to be Clever Monkey's hiking partner when placing this cache, although I wouldn't have minded a trip back as the location is awesome! It was challenging to get to, but the views definitely reward the effort. Thanks for a great day out, Steve!
Gold in them hills.
The effort was quickly whittled to one big attempt as the preview indicated height, something B2 was not keen to pursue.
But it was to be only appreciated just how serious this treasure is once the ride home was well under way and the view back up the hill could be studied.
Usually a view is quite spectacular from the top and is quickly lost once the decent is made but here the location can be understood from different vantage points.
But what the bananas found that this is on top of the mountain and it must take rains of biblical proportions for this to reach the true potential beauty of what this area can offer.
It takes some effort to get there and is definitely not a trip to be done in the wet for the hide is the sort that location can maximize the pleasure. Hard to get to but enthralling never the less.
In an area of Victoria where the mountains are high and the rivers always flow (except here) this Golden Treasure deserves a favorite.
Love this game.
