Unfortunately, according to DOC, the Crown Track is closed due to some severe damage. The cache is in this area, therefore meaning that this cache can't be retrieved. In the meantime, you can attempt our other cache in this area, **ANGER - DO NOT ENTER!** with cache number **GC5JT3T**. We're looking for someone to adopt these two caches, so get in touch with us via geo-message if you're interested.

I had a couple of hours to kill before dinner time so decided a loop in the trails in Karangahake reserve was called for.
Second to last find for the day, on the home stretch, had to slow on approach as not to overtake slow walking muggles.
Quick scramble off track and soon had the hide found and signed.

Nice quick find. Good spot to have a. Break on our walk to dickies flat. Thanks
Found quickly on a family tramp to Dickies flat campground. Cache nice and dry, no rain for a while. Tftc.
Nearly at the end of a awesome walk today. Slipped our way down here & quickly located. Tftc
A stunning day for a wander. I have wanted to fund this cache for a while now but we always seem to be on a mission. Cool to get down to the river and explore. So much mining history in the area. Thanks for bringing us here KiwiLeon
This is wonderful walk..today was so tranquil and peaceful a really great easy adventure..found without any problems due to very accurate coords..the cache is all good and dry..
.you may want to alter the hint as the steel flange is now in the river...many thanks for a great all round cache

Didn’t find this time, though all the clues were there. Couldn’t load the images due to lack of reception but I know where to double check next time now
I decided on the spur of the moment earlier this Sunday morning to shoot down from Auckland to walk this Waitawheta trail, mainly to get the oldie cache 'Waitawheta Pipeline'. I started from Dickey Flat campground. I knew the weather was going to be dodgy, and possibly raining the whole way, it didn’t but the river is really swollen after the heavy rains over the past few days.
I initially walked right past the old cache, I had walked thru the tunnel before I realised my mistake, so on my way back I'll get it.
Slipped down the bank to get this one and I was at the wrong end of the pipe, then walked around. I fossicked around here for ages and thought where is the metal flange? Never mind, I still couldn't find the cache after several minutes of digging, so I decided to do a DNF, then as I was taking fotos to send to the C.O I spotted where the flange went.... straight into the river! Check out my fotos. Someone is being a dick by doing that. So I left it.
Later I decided to come back, have another go and this time decided to leave a nice new bison at GZ, hope the C.O is happy with that, foto added.
BTW... I couldn't get into the river to retrieve the flange, too dangerous and slippery.

took a bit of convincing to see the small track by the windfall tree but persistent looking made a clear find. nice to walk in the shade today. tftc
Found as a part of a previous group TanjackMüley, aka WanderingSparrow. Now I'm continuing on my own. TFTC
A very beautiful place to stop. Fairly slippery here. Quickly found after seeing the photo and we carry on towards Dickys flat. Tftc.
A bit slippery getting down to the river but no problems once there. The nicely hidden cache was quickly located and signed.
Thanks KiwiLeon for the detour, we would never have spotted the side path had the cache not been here.

Done the typical most worth mistake. Forgot the pen We didn’t expect to find a cache here.
But we have been here.
What a beautiful walk. What an interesting place.
My wife tried to write with an pen substitute, but with minor success.
Perhaps the next Cacher can rewrite our sign? 2019-01-20 TeamTapsi
Thanks for showing us this.

I just a little bit further. A bit of a hunt but enjoyed the noise of the river and peaceful setting
Out in Karangahake Gorge today partly to pick this one up - the two greens amongst the yellow faces are getting to me!! Nice brisk walk over to this cache and back to pick another one up from Waitewhata Road. Great secure spot here - I had wondered if the recent flood would have moved this one on, but it was happily esconced in its location. TFTC
138 Found it on this great walk. Learning about the past. Out with mum and brother, however forgot to log it at the time. TFTC
208 Picked up the kids from their grandparents and decided on a walk through the Karangahake gorge. Initially walked past the wee track, oops gps says down there, you are kidding back up a wee bit to find we had missed the wee path. Quick find thanks to the great clue. Kids spent a bit of time tossing rocks into the river. TFTC
Second time I've looked for this and second time lucky for me. Missed it by metres last time.
Doing the Dubbo 96 loop today.
Thanks for the cache!

Didn’t have reception finding this one so we couldn’t load the description but a muggle friend helped us and found it rather quickly!
We made a nice walk along the river and the historic places of the goldmines. Found some nice caches. Thanks for this one.
Today's program is the Karangahake gorge including all the mining history along the way. It is interesting to see how fast nature takes over when the influence of men is gone. So many buildings are gone and overgrown and all that in a relatively short time.
The trail presents a lot of different types of trail and we started the easy way along the river Whaitawheta with a good path, tunnels and of course geocaches.
This cache needed a visit to the riverbanks anf after doing that, finding the cache was not a problem.
All together it was a nice experiance and we enjoyed this a lot. There where no other people about after we left to the river track and all the others went back to the carpark along the other side of the river.
We missed the possibility of scenic views over the river, but you cannot have it all.

I scored some ridiculously cheap flights to Auckland, and that means one thing - geocaching!! i had some specific caches in mind, so I hopped into the car at the airport, and did not stopped until the K gorge car park. I have been through this area a few times previously, and always thought to myself that I will return one day and go for a walk. Today seemed like a perfect day for it, and walking I went! I had to survive in my hiking boots for the whole weekend to have suitable shoes for such an activity due to the seat only fare (I have perfected my packing technique since then ), but the cause was certainly worth it! I really enjoyed the walk! I almost did not find this one, the GPS was all over the place and I had no idea what the hint meant until I spotted something! I guess I just learnt a new word TFTC!!
After planning a trip to the bay of plenty for easter to gather a cache or two, it changed dramatically (we thought) when we heard that cyclone cook was about to bear down on this area our hopes had dropped .
Nice quick find here exactly where and how it should be.
Thanks for the smiley and the placement.
the light fading lucky we have a torch.

I was out and about today exploring the area with the intention of bringing some others here next week. I walked from Dickys flat to the gorge and then on my way back grabbed this cache with a couple of others. I was using a new GPS that I was struggling to understand how to use. I really enjoyed this diversion off the main path. Thanks for highlighting this cool spot with a cache placement.
12.20pm. The last on this track for me today as I head back to Krangahake now. All well here.
Thank you. David.

End of a long day, a scramble down the bank (and back up) wasn't the most enticing option but there was a cache

Nice easy find, off for a beautiful walk while down visiting relatives - cheers
Once ApacheD and I had set up camp we proceeded to do the loop track and find all the caches on the way. There were some cool rock sculptures nearby down by the river.

Missed where I had to go on the way to dickeys flat. But spotted it on way back. Enjoyed doing this one and liked where it was hidden. Tftc
Today we hiked in the gorgeous gorges. First we hiked the Not the HRT Walkway on our way back we took the Railway Track and then we hiked the Waitawheta Pipeline Track.
The hike on the Pipeline Track is awesome. Interesting locations combined with beautiful landscapes and nature.
We missed this one on our way in but we searched for it on our way back and found it right away at 2:10 pm.
Thanks for the hide.

Today, on a beautiful spring day, we have made a very pleasant 18 km walk, mainly along three trails in the Kaimai-Mamaku Forest Park: (part of) the **Not the HRT walkway**, the **Waitawheta pipeline track** and the **Dubbo 96 track**. Especially the last track was quite a challenging hike and took more time than expected, but overall it was great caching fun and basically the reason that we decided to go caching in this area.
Several caches were not found, in the beginning because they were too well hidden and at the end also because we were running a bit out of time and had to limit the searching time. Two caches were intentionally skipped. In total we have found 14 caches.
Our big thanks to the COs for bringing us to all the interesting places.

GPS reception is getting better as the gorge widens. Slight detour to grab this one on the way to the Waitawheta pipeline cache. Easy find, cache quite visible but I think far enough from the main muggle area that it should be safe.
Enjoying the walk along the pipeline, we make a small detour off track to grab this. Fanfan-77 spotted this first. Nice spot at the river. TFTC
Out for a walk with the kids around the Dubbo96 loop, cleaning up some of the local caches. First one for the day. TFTC.

Another one found during a long 40 km walk around the Karangahake Gorge.

We were spending a lazy long weekend with friends in Whanga but then, late last night, the rest of the family got the offer of an early morning west coast diving & fishing trip: I'd hardly even blinked & they were gone! I opted to stay behind and meander home today, mainly because I was keen to go for another walk in the gorge on my way past. I'd hoped to get up to the summit again but, with heavy early morning rain & low cloud, decided to play safe, stay low & hence set off from the gorge carpark to walk to Dickey's flat instead.
Paused briefly before heading down the slope - it was VERY wet & slippy today - but nothing ventured, nothing gained, so down I slid. Cache was a straight forward find thankfully. Cache all good, signed & replaced & managed to get back up to the track more easily than I got down. Really glad I opted to walk along here today - it is such a stunning location, despite the weather. Thanks for the placement.

On our way back to Dickey Flat after a great morning tramping the trails and geocaching. Sent my hero to get this one, while I took photos. Lovely area, peaceful and quiet. Cache all good. TFTC
Today with the start of daylight savings it would have been wrong to not make the most of the extra hours light and the chance to be up the hill all on my own. Today I managed to collect 26 caches and cover 18kms in this part of the gorge. What a magical place up in the upper reaches especillay where there is a distinct lack of others about.
Having taken the wrong track from where I had parked the car (which put me about 40min behind my self imposed schedule) I stopped here as it was my first cache of the day and I was hoping not to have to come back along here.
After having been up to the summit and struck by a spot of madness this was my second cache along this lower Dicky's Flat track heading back for the Karangahape Carpark.. A nice and simple walk here and am certainly enjoying the more level track that what I had faced earlier in the morning. The track was a lot drier than I had expected it to be.
This was my fifteenth cache for the day and a quick find here
Thanks for the placement and the trek through the hills into areas that I hadn't been before.

Todays Road Trip for us and Squirrel Nutcase was to attempt the Waiawheta Loop Track. Left home about 7am and finally got home about 8pm with mission accomplished plus a few extra caches in between.
3.10pm - Walked down to river then realised had passed GZ, quick back track and soon spotted hint. Container all good. SLTFTC

A very long day of walking ahead... With Gap (of Fap and Gap). We've been wanting to clear out the concentration of caches in the Dickey's Flat/ Karangahake/ Waitawheta areas for a while now.
We overshot this one slightly... It happens when the senses are overloaded... We backtracked and quickly got this one sorted. TFTC.

Arrived here at 6.45am and it was very cold still a nice walk to warm by doing the loop track tftc River very clear after recent rain
Found by a spot that is probably busy in summer but was deserted today. Took a trackable that was jam packed into the cache and filling it. TFTC
It was time for me to do the big loop walk starting from the main Karangahake carpark, up the Crown Hill track to the Dubbo and then back down, with a few ups and downs on the way.
This took a little while to get as the bank was rather slippery. I think that TB will stay there for quite a while.
Cheers for the cache.

Stayed the night in Hamilton to be able to make it nice and early out Karangahake Gorge to hike the trails and explore some of those tunnels.
It was an awesome day out for a good hike and at the end of the day I walked around 28km .
Took a while to locate the geocache. TFTC

Every day we are traveling around is same but also different. Today we had again the pleasure to visit some very beautiful spots and were also able to find nearly placed geocaches. I thank every single owner for placing it and giving us with doing this an other good reason to come here.
Mallorcatommy and I were travelling through the northern island of New Zealand. What an amazing, breath-taking landscape! On our way we did some nice walks, enjoyed ourselves and found great geocaches. Thanks to all owners for nice hiding spots... We wouldn't have been to a few places without these little boxes!
Thank you!
Thank you!
Last of the new caches to finish my loop walk. Thoroughly enjoyed and recommend it - thanks to the CO's who have placed the new caches - they help bring visitors to this beautiful area. TFTC
Tftc. Nice easy find on an cache mission with yodabeach today. Cool spot to enjoy a rest by the river.
Just followed the GPS and took us rite down to 1m . Did all the new 11 caches with Jumboz
We headed off in good company with the clockwise team of cachers all armed with a list of new and unfound caches. In some instances it required everyones eyes to search before the cache was located but most were quickly located. Our group was a mix of some regular attendees of the campout and some new faces so lots of stories were shared along the way. With Alan pushing us all along from the rear we finally found the most perfect spot for our brief lunch break albeit that this was not where he had planned for us to stop and he did take a bit of persuading that this was where we really wanted to stop!
Thanks to Alan and Leon for placing all the new caches and for organising yet another fabulous walk. TFTC.

Found with evilno9 and mike-miss as the clockwise team stragglers from the event mob after exploring the tunnels. Thanks!
Found ourselves a likely spot to come off track and headed down towards the water. GZ revealed itself pretty easily and the cache was soon in hand. Headed back up to the track and we soon had the rest of the group all caught up which made things a bit easier for the next cache on the trail... TFTC
