I had a couple of hours to kill before dinner time so decided a loop in the trails in Karangahake reserve was called for, first and foremost make sure Strava is recording it.......
Looks like someone found the capital D and put it back on the sign, quick find and off to the next one, ended up being a nice 10km loop back to the carpark.

21-Nov-21
A quick find, bigger than expected! On the way back to carpark from Dickies Flat. Tftc!

02-Oct-21
One of the easier finds today. Nice views. Tftc

Found it thanks.

Out for a maintenance run - cache all good.

Grrr sometimes you can't see a cache for looking and this was one of them. My muggle son found the cache and I didn't realise until further down the track that he had opened his own account and paid the Premium as we had been walking so this technically is his first find but although he didnt sign the log I can verify he did make the find.
Welcome to geocaching Osrith, it's only taken you close to 6 years of watching me do this but I'm glad to have you on board. Just remember to keep Labour Weekend free because I would love to have you join me at the Mega in Auckland if it goes ahead.

21-Mar-20
Nicely hidden but not too hard.

25-Dec-19
Still there! Great spot. Cleaned out some snow (Stuff that nobody wants) from this cache - not sure why people put their trash into a cache........but still a nice hide! Thanks!

25-Jun-19
Found as a part of a previous group TanjackMüley, aka WanderingSparrow. Now I'm continuing on my own. TFTC

25-Jun-19
Took us a few minutes and it was well hidden and that we both saw it at the same time. This sign made us laugh a lot and it was cool to look at the hidden mine we had no idea was going to be here thank you for the geocache.

04-May-19
A nice quick find as we explored the trail.
We were surprised at how deserted these tracks are and only saw one person during the 5 hours we were here.
Thanks KiwiLeon.

Easy find while tramping in the Karangahape Gorge
log was a bit damp but all in good order
managed to finish the tramp before the rain set in.

A few paces and hunting up and down. All downhill back to the car park

23-Apr-18
Found on a walk in the gorge. Bit of a "drop" here hence the "anger". Had forgotten to log this cache, oops.

139 Forgot to log the caches on this walk. Did the Dubbo, had to walk fast as the light was fading. Easy find. TFTC

209 Picked up the kids from their grandparents and decided on a walk through the Karangahake gorge. We have walked the windows, pipeline and dubbo track in a loop. Getting a bit tired as we had to up the pace as didn't want to run out of daylight, thankfully the track along here is much kinder than what we had just climbed. Easy find. TFTC Picked up the Ladybird trackable and will find somewhere suitable for her to continue her journey.

17-Feb-18
Found thanks! Lulu the lady bug!

10-Dec-17
Pleased not to be looking over the fence for the cache. A careful examination showed a deep shaft over the fence. Hmmm...
Thanks for the cache!

Needed to put in some time on the track before heading south to do the Old Ghost Road. Too hot to go to the summit so this made a good loop with plenty of caches along the way. TFTC

Today's program is the Karangahake gorge including all the mining history along the way. It is interesting to see how fast nature takes over when the influence of men is gone. So many buildings are gone and overgrown and all that in a relatively short time.
The trail presents a lot of different types of trail and we started the easy way along the river Whaitawheta with a good path, tunnels and of course geocaches.
The Dubbo track appeared to be much more of a challenge, especially because climbing is not my strongest point. But the totally different track provided us with a new experience and the track is beautifull (and very slippery).
The path for the last part back was less interesting but gave us some extra caches to find.
All together it was a nice experiance and we enjoyed this a lot. There where no other people about after we left to the river track and all the others went back to the carpark along the other side of the river.
We missed the possibility of scenic views over the river, but you cannot have it all.

A muggle friend and I decided to head down to Karangahake gorge today, as a day trip from Auckland, and do the loop hike around Karangahake Mountain and up to the summit. It was a lovely day weather wise and we enjoyed the walk around the mountain. Walked up and down the fence line a couple of time before I uncovered this one. TFTC!

11-May-17
Had a great walk around the mountain today with a friend. It was drizzly which must have deterred other people but we had a great time finding caches and having some mild exercise. Not difficult to find, TFTC Smile

22-Apr-17
Great walk. Great place for a cache. Thanks for bringing us here.

15-Apr-17
After planning a trip to the bay of plenty for easter to gather a cache or two, it changed dramatically (we thought) when we heard that cyclone cook was about to bear down on this area our hopes had dropped .

Nice quick find here exactly where and how it should be.

Thanks for the smiley and the placement.

the light fading lucky we have a torch.

17-Dec-16
Once ApacheD and I had set up camp we proceeded to do the loop track and find all the caches on the way. This took us way to long to find not sure why as there really wasn't that many places to hide the cache maybe we were getting tired by this stage or maybe I'm just blind but the main thing is we did find it.

**TFTC** [^]

Today, on a beautiful spring day, we have made a very pleasant 18 km walk, mainly along three trails in the Kaimai-Mamaku Forest Park: (part of) the **Not the HRT walkway**, the **Waitawheta pipeline track** and the **Dubbo 96 track**. Especially the last track was quite a challenging hike and took more time than expected, but overall it was great caching fun and basically the reason that we decided to go caching in this area.

Several caches were not found, in the beginning because they were too well hidden and at the end also because we were running a bit out of time and had to limit the searching time. Two caches were intentionally skipped. In total we have found 14 caches.

Our big thanks to the COs for bringing us to all the interesting places.

*Quite well stuffed away.*

We were spending a lazy long weekend with friends in Whanga but then, late last night, the rest of the family got the offer of an early morning west coast diving & fishing trip: I'd hardly even blinked & they were gone! I opted to stay behind and meander home today, especially as I was keen to go for another walk in the gorge on my way past. I'd hoped to get up to the summit again but, with heavy early morning rain & low cloud, decided to play safe and stay low. Set off from the gorge carpark to Dickey's flat & now returning via the Dubbo & level 7 tracks - still hoping that it'll clear sometime soon, as forecast, but its not looking likely.

Nice straightforward find here. Cache all good, signed & tried to avoid getting the log wet, replaced & off to the next. Still really glad I opted to walk up here today - it is such a lovely location, despite the weather and the mud. Thanks for the placement.

20-Jan-16
Cache larger than I expected.
TFTC

14-Jan-16
A good leg stretcher from Karangahake car park, via the pipeline and Dubbo tracks and back down the mountain. Found 8 caches on the way. The "D" is back on the sign! A very quick find here.
Thank you. David.

25-Oct-15
Up very early to watch the All Blacks' nail-biting win over the Springboks into the final of the World Rugby Cup. It left us so hyped up that we decided to make the most of the day and go geocaching! And we knew the very place that would fit the bill... A calming bush walk...
Out the door within the hour, tiptoeing past people sleeping in tents at Dickey Flats, to the peace and tranquility of the Karangahake trails. Nobody around, so a quick find and log. Cache all good. TFTC

11-Oct-15
Inspection along the fence. I don't think it's here anymore Sad

27-Sep-15
Today with the start of daylight savings it would have been wrong to not make the most of the extra hours light and the chance to be up the hill all on my own. Today I managed to collect 26 caches and cover 18kms in this part of the gorge. What a magical place up in the upper reaches especillay where there is a distinct lack of others about.
Having taken the wrong track from where I had parked the car (which put me about 40min behind my self imposed schedule) I stopped here as it was my first cache of the day and I was hoping not to have to come back along here.

After having been up to the summit and struck by a spot of madness this was my third cache along this upper level track. A nice and simple walk here and am certainly enjoying the more level track that what I had faced earlier in the morning. The track was a lot drier than I had expected it to be. Great views looking out across the gorge.
This was my ninth cache for the day.

Thanks for the placement and the trek through the hills into areas that I hadn't been before.

11-Jul-15
Out for a day walk it was a nice cool day to go to the top of Mt Karangahake ice on the ground you needed thermals when in the shade and tee shirt and shorts in the sun .Oh well better than being on the sofa great place for a Cache Thanks Gam @ Co

27-Jun-15
Todays Road Trip for us and Squirrel Nutcase was to attempt the Waiawheta Loop Track. Left home about 7am and finally got home about 8pm with mission accomplished plus a few extra caches in between.

12pm - No intentions of climbing here and no problems to find cache. SLTFTC

27-Jun-15
A very long day of walking ahead... With Gap (of Fap and Gap). We've been wanting to clear out the concentration of caches in the Dickey's Flat/ Karangahake/ Waitawheta areas for a while now.

Well, I certainly didn't feel anger when we arrived at this cache... Danger, yes! Only a goat would disobey the signs... This was a quick, safe find. TFTC.

23-Jun-15
Arrived here at 6.45am and it was very cold still a nice walk to warm by doing the loop track tftc and I didn't enter

02-May-15
It was time for me to do the big loop walk starting from the main Karangahake carpark, up the Crown Hill track to the Dubbo and then back down, with a few ups and downs on the way.

I obey those types of signs. They are installed for a good reason.

Cheers for the cache.

12-Apr-15
found on a lovely walk to collect a few caches, nice quick find, thanks for the photo guidance.

03-Apr-15
Would have had much more area's to have a fence like this, so why there is one here and not over the whole line??? Lucky it wasn't as it is much more beautiful without.
Easy find for the cache. there was not much cover left.

22-Mar-15
Stayed the night in Hamilton to be able to make it nice and early out Karangahake Gorge to hike the trails and explore some of those tunnels.
It was an awesome day out for a good hike and at the end of the day I walked around 28km Big Grin.
My mind was going in all directions during the walk which produced till this stage a solid shopping and task list for home. Up the mountain was next as I was ahead of the time. TFTC

17-Mar-15
Every day we are traveling around is same but also different. Today we had again the pleasure to visit some very beautiful spots and were also able to find nearly placed geocaches. I thank every single owner for placing it and giving us with doing this an other good reason to come here.

17-Mar-15
Mallorcatommy and I were travelling through the northern island of New Zealand. What an amazing, breath-taking landscape! On our way we did some nice walks, enjoyed ourselves and found great geocaches. Thanks to all owners for nice hiding spots... We wouldn't have been to a few places without these little boxes!

Thank you!

13-Mar-15
Couple walks along the fence line and then spotted the cache. Enjoying the walk, the sunshine and the views - quiet on the track and no worry with muggles but did see a few doing the loop track TFTC SmileSmileSmileSmile

Does the 'hole' link to the talisman mine?? Pretty cold air coming out of it! Hope the mining doesn't go ahead. Tftc

07-Feb-15
Found (FTF) with the rest of the clockwise event mob! Great views along here.

Thanks!

07-Feb-15
We headed off in good company with the clockwise team of cachers all armed with a list of new and unfound caches. In some instances it required everyones eyes to search before the cache was located but most were quickly located. Our group was a mix of some regular attendees of the campout and some new faces so lots of stories were shared along the way. With Alan pushing us all along from the rear we finally found the most perfect spot for our brief lunch break albeit that this was not where he had planned for us to stop and he did take a bit of persuading that this was where we really wanted to stop!
Thanks to Alan and Leon for placing all the new caches and for organising yet another fabulous walk. TFTC.

07-Feb-15
We all roamed up and down missing the obvious. Not for long. Tftc.

07-Feb-15
Group find with the Anti-Clockwise group from the BBQ campout event. Thanks KiwiLeon

07-Feb-15
You can't suggest mining in the Coromandel without picking a fight. At least it's not coal, but if the need to try and pluck the precious shiny stuff out of the ground somehow wins out over the tourist and conservation value of this area then we better have learnt lessons from the eyesore at Waihi, the toxic mess at Tui, and the death trap at Pike River. 'nuf said.

Part of the clockwise FTF team. Great views - T4TC

07-Feb-15
Found this one as part of the anti-clockwise group from the Waitangi weekend event. Is it lunch time yet ? Hard to believe they are considering re-starting mining here. TFTC.

07-Feb-15
Group FTF with anti-clockwise group during the Waitangi BBQ weekend. Thanks Greenblat & KiwiLeon for placing these new caches

07-Feb-15

Didn't take too long to find this with the good clue ....We were starting to feel hungry and think about lunch by this stage ....Thanks KiwiLeon

07-Feb-15
Group FTF with the group of cachers walking along the track in the anti-clockwise direction on the hike organised by Greenblat and KiwiLeon for the Dickey's Flat Camp-out Event. We soon found the cache and had the log book in hand and signed, so we replaced and headed along the trail back towards the campsite. Thanks for the cache! Big Grin

07-Feb-15
Like the sign! The cache was quickly found by the group walking the circuit anti-clockwise as part of the event organised by KiwiLeon and Greenblat. TFTC

07-Feb-15
Found this one with everyone in the clockwise group. Thanks Greenblat and KiwiLeon for placing these new caches for us all to find. TFTC! Big Grin

07-Feb-15
Was part of the Anti-clockwise group taking on the newly published caches, plus a few others along the pipeline and level No. 7 tracks. We signed the logs as ACW everyone, which made signing the log much quicker. A great day was had and the swim in the stream and the end walk was very much a great way to top of the day. Thanks GreenBlat and KiwiLeon for organising the walk.

07-Feb-15
Things were definitely starting to feel a whole lot flatter at this point, which was nice. A reasonably quick find here for the clockwise group and with no sign of morning tea yet we carried on in hope of a feed. TFTC

07-Feb-15
Logged as part of the "Clockwise Team 17" during the weekends event nearby. Almost like a red rag to a bull this one for me, as soon as I see a sign like that I want to abseil down and have a look what all the fuss is about. TFTC

07-Feb-15
Some of us in the clockwise group wondered what ailment KiwiLeon must have to need such large pill bottles Wink
Many thanks

07-Feb-15
The quest of the "Clockwise" group continues in a search for FTF

So close to finding, probably only 1 m away, when decided to investigate the other end LOL Its a quick find when 17 of you are looking Big Grin

Beautiful walk, fine day, and surrounded by cachers! Thanks again to you both for organising the event and the hides.

07-Feb-15
Found with part of the Anticlockwise team, many eyes make light work of these caches. Group (FTF) as well. Pretty sad that they are trying to open this area up for mining again. Hope it doesn't go through.

07-Feb-15
Found as part of the great Waitangi Weekend Campout Clockwise group. This time I wasn't the "almost last" to arrive and was within an-arm-an-a-half of the cache when it was found. On first glance, you must take giant pills KiwiLeon. They're not pills to treat a geocaching addiction are they?
