22/09/2024 - 09:08So part of the reason why the wineglass bay finds took place at the crack of dawn were because we had to get that walk in before a morning of ATV adventuring - as planned and booked by the partner! The morning itself was fantastic and when we stopped for morning tea I whipped out the phone. I was surprised to have signal and even more surprised to see a cache nearby.A quick explanation of caching to our tour guide and fellow tourers over a brownie and I ducked off into the bushes to find it. Our guide in fact things we was there the last time it was found too, as he recalls being told about caching by someone hes taken out previously. Glad to get this one after it hasnt been found for a while.marcussjd9#259TFTC

Unable to get remotely close via main turn off to Friendly beaches, boom gates are down and the area is unable to be accessed by vehicle due to recent bushfires. Geokids not up for the long walk, which neither am I, unsure if it can be accessed by foot. Possibly accessible from another road from Coles bay, but not sure.

This two week Tassie trip has been a long time coming. I have booked and rebooked a number of times thanks to sick elderly parents and various covid border lockdowns.

My first week was spent sailing a gaff rigged open wooden boat from Recherche Bay to Hobart to join the Wooden Boat Festival. My family joined me at the Wooden Boat Festival and after a few days in Hobart, we headed to the Tasman Peninsular where we hiked the world class Three Capes track. We then headed north to Freycinet for a day or two relaxing to finish our holiday.

My kids love adventure. Hiking is my passion, not theirs, so my wife decided to reward them with a half day 4 wheel buggy adventure with a local tour company. It was great fun - the perfect mix of adventure, fun, mud and great scenery. During the tour, we stopped at the Friendly Beaches for morning tea.

What do you know ? There is a cache just over there! I ended up explaining geocaching to the tour guide.

Many thanks gorbak

Staying overnight in Coles Bay we were up and about hoping to do a mountain climb but the locals felt we should wait until it was a little drier before attempting the climb. So, plan B was put into place! We thought we would have to do 2 long walks but managed to drive to our first location. Then we checked out other possible tracks to get to this cache. Not having a 4WD we decided to take the long way and walk in!

At a parking area, we gathered some food and water and quickly got down to the beach where we saw what was ahead of us! We saw plenty of bird life, even chicks which were cute. We didn’t time the tide well so we had to run away from waves trying to take all our hard sand! We got to within 300m from GZ where Lady membsec had to remove her shoes and socks and wade her way through water, but it wasn’t very deep! The cache was located quickly, signed the log book and replaced as we found it! Now to wade through the water and then our 5km walk back! We thought that a “Getting Friendlier” cache could be worthwhile. Who knows what might appear?

Thanks for the challenge and cache in this beautiful area!

Found this one on the 16th of Jan 2021, and forgot to log it....

We have been to this part of the beach before, so we knew what we were up against when we started our drive in. We managed to get to the end in about 30 minutes. The cache was a quick find and it was in good condition. Thanks for the cache

Doing our bit to reinvigorate the local economy by staying in the area for three nights. After going up to the Wineglass Bay lookout this morning for two caches, we decided this was the go for the afternoon. Enjoyed the 16km return 4x4 trip in the trusty Pathfinder. A motorbike, four wheeler and later a 4x4 with a slide-on camper were other travellers on the track. Log found quickly, in good condition and unlikely to be muggled unless very unlucky. TFTC gorbak

Friendly enough for us - involved a beautiful 2hrs return walk along the beach, but found the container quickly and enjoyed the amazing Tassie weather and the sun.

First up a favourite point just for the drive in. I wish I could give another one for the location. What a beautiful secluded area.
I thoroughly enjoyed getting to this cache.

Wow, what an amazing spot! After an enjoyable drive here, we checked out the campground (which we were surprised to find totally empty considering the time of year) for future weekends away before carrying on down to the beach. Being our first visit here we were not expecting the vista to suddenly open up to pristine white sands and beautiful clear sea. And not a soul in sight! Wow! We had this stunning beach all to ourselves!
The weather was great too and we spent several hours here enjoying the serenity, going for a swim au naturel, and soaking up the beauty of the place. We almost forgot why we were here!
Ah that's right, the cache!... Well, as per the previous couple of logs, it was very apparent that the cache had unfortunately been muggled. But we came prepared with a replacement, and have left it there with the CO's permission.
Thanks gorbak for showing us this wonderful location. We will certainly be returning! Fav point given. TFTC!

At the co-ordinates I found a forked tree with 2 small rocks at its base but DNF

Had a pretty good look and couldn’t find it. Lots of forked trees and one with rocks but no cache

Parked at the carpark in the middle of beach. The walk along to the cache was easy as the tide was low, so no soft sand to sink in. Collected some pretty shells along the way. Found and signed the log. The weather was so hot on the return, we ended up stripping to our underwear and in May! luckily we had the beach to ourselves

it was a wonderful day, also the temperature. thanks to this weather station. TFTC

We turned off Coles Bay Road into Friendly Beaches Road and parked at S42 01.454 E148 16.873.
From here it was an easy 100 metre stroll to the beach then about 5 kilometres to the cache which was an easy find. The 5 kilometre return to the car was a bit harder with a headwind gaining in strength as we walked but overall it was a lovely walk. We would decrease the terrain rating to 2 if you approached from this direction.

Stunning surrounds - just the best. We stopped here with Sam from All4Adventures on our quad bike tour of Freycinet. Thanks for the cache!

This took us just over a 2 hour return walk from the southern carpark at the main entrance of friendly beaches. It was a beautiful day for the walk and enjoyed it very much.

Long walk on a beautiful beach. Thanks.

THANKS for the cache gorbak! Didn't take the risk of driving in in a low slung 2WD sedan, so decided a walk was in order, and it seemed the shortest route would be from the southern most carpark at the end of the Friendly Beach Road. Turned out to be a 2hr 9km return beach walk, and we had a nice chat to a ranger near GZ. Seems that the recently uncovered ship wreck near out starting point has been since returned to its sandy grave.
Found with and by AlbyDangles.

*My main task this weekend was providing transport to Freycinet for some scouts hiking in the area. Too good an opportunity to pass by for geocaching in between, and as there was a spare seat, I called on AlbyDangles for company. We left the Freycinet carpark after 2:30pm to do the Hazards Beach loop, grabbing any caches along the way, both GC and GA, including GC1RHTC that's still in place that we found and signed, but cannot add a log as it's been archived. After a very nice tea of local pizza, we headed out by torchlight for more caches at the lighthouse and out past SleepyBay; and then a few more on Sunday morning to top off a great weekend.*

gorbak thank you for the cache.

As we didn't have a 4WD with us we did the approx 9km return walk along the beach.
With the tide been high we got our feet wet a couple of times but it was still a great walk.
Found while caching in the area with EeePees.

Feeling adventurous we mounted the geobikes at Coles Bay with plenty of supplies on board to nourish us for the trip ahead. Steep hills, sand traps, rough roads, rocky terrain and water hazards did not deter us from the quest to capture the cache. Emerging at the pristine white sands of Friendly Beaches and replenished by lunch we soon had the cache in hand. Thanks for the adventure.

Today we travelled to the East Coast finding caches that had been published since our last visit and this was one of them. We decided to attempt this in the geo ute and see how far we could get in well Mrs "T" thought this wont last long but we went through the waterways over the rock river bed and down the steep slippery hills and wow we ended up at the beach!! There was a 4x4 there and by the looks he was thinking how the heck did that ute get in here!!!! What a lovely place, had lunch and spent an hour just relaxing!! A quick find then back out. Well the wheels spun but we got out in one piece and this made an enjoyable day out for us. Adding to our favourites. Cache was in good condition.

Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.

Bit of a drive into the GZ but wow what a beautiful beach. Quickly found the cache and then threw a line in. No luck with the fishing though.

We approached this cache from two directions. Walked here yesterday along the beach from Friendly Beaches Road but didn't have the cache loaded on the GPS so gave it a miss. Today we headed off early and walked from Coles Bay. Nearly 20 kilometres round trip. Great walk and not another person or vehicle spotted. Lovely looking at all the swans on the lagoon and soaking up the tranquility at the end near GZ. Nice easy find. Thanks for showing us this great spot

After a decent 4x4 trip in to the beach we found it. Great views and water. Found on the same day as FTF! TFTC!

As the Tardis comes fully equipped with 4WD mode (not that it really needs it as in can apparate anywhere at will) this was indeed a ride in the park drive-by for us today & hence a quite friendly cache. Despite frequent visits to Freycinet dating back to the mid-60's, we'd never ventured to this neck of the woods before. Accurate coordinates led us straight to where a blank logbook awaited our *FTF* signature. Thanks gorbak! On our return journey we met several vehicles travelling the other way so Frank will certainly have some company tonight.
