Going to be hard to keep a cache going here without them rolling into the gorge so will free up this space. Thanks for looking everyone.

Picked up the kids from their grandparents and decided on a walk through the Karangahake gorge. Originally went past gz as gps was being a bit unreliable, searched for a bit around what we thought was the obvious hint. Oh well will have to come again another time as we still have plenty to find.

ReCached and I weren't sure how far down we wanted to go on this hike before heading over to the old railway tunnel. But thanks to Geocaching, there was enough motivation to go at least the distance to this cache. Without the hint we probably wouldn't have found it. TFTC GreenBLAT!

Today's program is the Karangahake gorge including all the mining history along the way. It is interesting to see how fast nature takes over when the influence of men is gone. So many buildings are gone and overgrown and all that in a relatively short time.
The trail presents a lot of different types of trail and we started the easy way along the river Whaitawheta with a good path, tunnels and of course geocaches.
The Dubbo track appeared to be much more of a challenge, especially because climbing is not my strongest point. But the totally different track provided us with a new experience and the track is beautifull (and very slippery).
The path for the last part back was less interesting but gave us some extra caches to find.
All together it was a nice experiance and we enjoyed this a lot. There where no other people about after we left to the river track and all the others went back to the carpark along the other side of the river.
We missed the possibility of scenic views over the river, but you cannot have it all.

I scored some ridiculously cheap flights to Auckland, and that means one thing - geocaching!! i had some specific caches in mind, so I hopped into the car at the airport, and did not stopped until the K gorge car park. I have been through this area a few times previously, and always thought to myself that I will return one day and go for a walk. Today seemed like a perfect day for it, and walking I went! I had to survive in my hiking boots for the whole weekend to have suitable shoes for such an activity due to the seat only fare (I have perfected my packing technique since then Wink), but the cause was certainly worth it! I really enjoyed the walk! And I originally looked for the cache much closer to the mine entrance crossing a tape -
oops! but then the location became clear with the hint Wink TFTC!!

After planning a trip to the bay of plenty for easter to gather a cache or two, it changed dramatically (we thought) when we heard that cyclone cook was about to bear down on this area our hopes had dropped .

Nice quick find here exactly where and how it should be.

Thanks for the smiley and the placement.

Today we hiked in the gorgeous gorges. First we hiked the Not the HRT Walkway on our way back we took the Railway Track and then we hiked the Waitawheta Pipeline Track.
The hike on the Pipeline Track is awesome. Interesting locations combined with beautiful landscapes and nature. At GZ the muggles are not so many anymore but we still hat to care about.
We found the cache right away at 12:20 pm.
Thanks for the hide.

**TFTC** [^]

Today, on a beautiful spring day, we have made a very pleasant 18 km walk, mainly along three trails in the Kaimai-Mamaku Forest Park: (part of) the **Not the HRT walkway**, the **Waitawheta pipeline track** and the **Dubbo 96 track**. Especially the last track was quite a challenging hike and took more time than expected, but overall it was great caching fun and basically the reason that we decided to go caching in this area.

Several caches were not found, in the beginning because they were too well hidden and at the end also because we were running a bit out of time and had to limit the searching time. Two caches were intentionally skipped. In total we have found 14 caches.

Our big thanks to the COs for bringing us to all the interesting places.

The GPS was pretty jumpy in the gorge and the proximity alarm didn't go off when we walked past it before lunch. On our return from finding the Waitawheta pipeline cache (YUS!!!) made sure we didn't walk past it again. GPS still bouncy but sveppi located it using the hint as I had walked too far again!

Oops ... walked past this on the way so grabbing on the way back. Easy find with the hint (GPS still having a bad day!). TFTC

My 21st smiley today and what an awesome spot. I had no idea these trails were here and I'm still amazed these places are on my door step and I'm persistently oblivious. It's a shame not all the tracks were open but ... falling rocks haha. Cheers Greenblat, cache found quickly and in good condition - nice and secure.

Replaced this one today after meeting the CO at the Wentworth Valley Camping Event and confirming that I'd been searching the right spot last week & that the original seemed to have gone. We walked to the Wentworth Valley waterfall lookout this morning, with a surprisingly large turn-out of keen cachers, despite the foul weather. Some of us had plans to walk a longer loop but the continuing downpour eventually convinced us otherwise. So I'm now heading home to the dry, sunny Waikato and some dry clothes. Driving past here & the gorge is in glorious sunshine so, having been thwarted by heavy rain this morning, decided to stop here for a walk instead. Got more than a few weird looks: could be coz I look like a drowned rat or that I'm wearing tramping gear on while the muggles are meandering along here in jandals Smile Cache replaced as per hint, with a couple of rocks to hopefully hold it in place.

Battle barbie and I confirmed as per the previous visits, that it was not in its place. Unfortunately we missed out by a day as it has now been replaced. Will come back and log this sometime when I show the fqabulous windows walk to the rest of the family. Cheers. TFTC

Sad not to have found it while out with MojitoMa and family. We had a replacement cache in the car, but we couldn't test the patience of our family too much. Glad it's been replaced and will get it in the future!

31-Jan-16
We were spending a lazy long weekend catching up with friends in Whanga but then, late last night, the rest of the family got the offer of an early morning west coast diving & fishing trip: I'd hardly even blinked & they were gone! I opted to stay behind and meander home today, as I was keen to go for another walk in the gorge on my way past. I'd hoped to get up to the summit again but, with heavy early morning rain & low cloud, decided to play safe, stay low & hence set off from the gorge carpark to walk to Dickey's flat instead.

Not a soul around in the rain, and a very helpful cache hint, so it should've been easy here, but still no joy for me today. Not sure what I was doing wrong. Still, its a stunning location, despite the weather, so a good excuse to come back!

NO luck for us today.....Poppymjr was most disappointed as we were past the cache when she was in charge of the 'treasure phone' and we said we would pick this up on the way back. On our return down the hill, what should have been an apparent easy find turned into a DNF - certainly not where I thought it was going to be......will watch this with interest.

A great walk nonetheless

Heading to the Gorge with my sister jazzmo and the kids today. Our holiday in NZ is almost at an end so need to fit in a few more caches.
This is a really pretty part of the Gorge that I haven't been to before. The cache was a nice easy find, which allowed more time to take in the beautiful surroundings.

27-Sep-15
Today with the start of daylight savings it would have been wrong to not make the most of the extra hours light and the chance to be up the hill all on my own. Today I managed to collect 26 caches and cover 18kms in this part of the gorge. What a magical place up in the upper reaches especillay where there is a distinct lack of others about.
Having taken the wrong track from where I had parked the car (which put me about 40min behind my self imposed schedule) I stopped here as it was my first cache of the day and I was hoping not to have to come back along here.

After having been up to the summit and struck by a spot of madness this was my second cache along this lower Dicky's Flat track heading back for the Karangahape Carpark.. A nice and simple walk here and am certainly enjoying the more level track that what I had faced earlier in the morning. The track was a lot drier than I had expected it to be.
This was my eighteenth cache for the day and a quick find here

Thanks for the placement and the trek through the hills into areas that I hadn't been before.

Todays Road Trip for us and Squirrel Nutcase was to attempt the Waiawheta Loop Track. Left home about 7am and finally got home about 8pm with mission accomplished plus a few extra caches in between.

A very long day of walking ahead... With Gap (of Fap and Gap). We've been wanting to clear out the concentration of caches in the Dickey's Flat/ Karangahake/ Waitawheta areas for a while now.

It's just staggering to think that people lived and worked in these inhospitable conditions. I don't think I'd have coped well. No wonder why bars and saloons were popular back in the early pioneering days... The gps struggled under shadow of the towering cliffs... This one took a bit of searching to find, but Gap soon had it under control. TFTC.

After a long hésitation, I decided to head south this morning and to ho to Rotorua for 2 days. Weather is bad but country is so beautiful that I'm confident to have a good and interesting day.
First stop in this gold mine area. It is really well restored and I enjoyed walking along these small paths and exploring the old mine tunnels. No rain while I'm here ! A good start.
Cache is in good condition.
Next target in my trip: Tauranga in order to discover the mount Maungani.

It was time for me to do the big loop walk starting from the main Karangahake carpark, up the Crown Hill track to the Dubbo and then back down, with a few ups and downs on the way.

This is the second time I have been on this track but the first time going this way.

Cheers for the cache.

Stayed the night in Hamilton to be able to make it nice and early out Karangahake Gorge to hike the trails and explore some of those tunnels.
It was an awesome day out for a good hike and at the end of the day I walked around 28km Big Grin.
Knowing the CO Twisted I saw item given in the hint in the river. I made my way down there swam to GZ and made the find Wink... TFTC

Every day we are traveling around is same but also different. Today we had again the pleasure to visit some very beautiful spots and were also able to find nearly placed geocaches. I thank every single owner for placing it and giving us with doing this an other good reason to come here.

Thank you!
