someone thought they were funny when naming this place, but still nice to see a different area, plenty of mud but that doesn't stop a cacher finding a cache, tftc
Someone with a sense of humor that's for sure, however soon found the cache along the muddy trail here, cheers
We couldn't quite work out from which side to access thr cache at first. Walked in on the little path and found nothing. Went out onto the road which didn't help. Read some logs and went back to where we'd been before, and a bit further in. Success! TFTC!
Found with Gazania Rigens as per her log.We were very impressed by the vast amount of spray from these massive waterfalls. So much so, indeed, that we couldnt see over into Canada. AS GR indicates, the D rating of only 1 is perhaps a little low for this cache due to jumping GPS (Batman!?) making it unclear which is the best appoach, path or road. A visit to the road side makes it pretty clear however, so our 2nd visit down the path did lead to swift success. The whitebait fishing traps installed in the river were interesting.TFTC
Wandering around the Catlins for a few days grabbing geocaches as we go. Stopped by to checkout the waterfall and grab the geocache. The surveyor who named these falls most certainly had an unusual sense of humour! Made my way along the muddy track past what I assumed are whitebait stands to GZ, cache quickly in hand, TNLNSL and left as found. Had planned to visit the waterfall anyway so the cache was a bonus, thanks for the placement and the history Glenfelik.
The river was obviously higher than usual when we were there because there were no falls visible! Just some rapids so we could see where the falls would usually be. We were expecting small falls, but not quite that small! Still, a nice place to stop and I enjoyed finding the cache. Thanks for placing it here, these falls definitely deserve a cache.
No disappointment here because our expectations of the falls were low - but the cache find was satisfying. Came here after as nice lunch nearby on a day where we spent half the day taking off jackets and half putting them on.Thanks.
Barely survived the thundering spray of the massive Niagara Falls! This was great, geocaching is all about being brought to somewhere like this, put a smile on our faces...
We are staying nearby in the NZMCA park and was a wild windy wet night last night. Wandered over here this morning and gingerly avoided as much mud as I could to retrieve the cache. Didnt even attempt to get a better look at the Niagara Falls. I was told pretty quickly by hubby that it didnt compare to the real thing.TFTC
Holiday in NZ. What am amazing piece of Nature bahahahahaDid a day trip to Curio Bay, very wet and slippery today! A vine that we would call a wait-awhile got me. Be careful!TFTC
Dieser Cache konnte heute erfolgreich geloggt werden.Danke an den owner fr's legen und pflegen TFTC Schmerzbefreit
Day 5: The CatlinsOur journey today took us down to the Catlins for a whirlwind tour of all the sights we could squeeze into a day trip. Of course, there were geocaches to be had too, plus plenty of photos and sightseeing. Thankfully the weather held up for most parts today, so we could enjoy all the great scenery and the geocaches as well!(end of the cut and paste bit)This was one of my must-sees in the Catlins because of the sheer humour and underwhelming feeling of looking at the Niagara Falls of NZ. The cache was a bit of a toughie, because of the bushiness of the area, but managed to spot once the right angle was found. TFTC!
We visited the Niagara Falls on the US/Canadian border many years ago. This version as not overshadowed . Spotted where GZ was and managed to get to it without disturbing the animal trap. TFTC
HaHa! I wanted to take a photo but the sun was directly over the falls. M soon found the cache. We took the travel bug.
A nice easy fond walking the dog. Staying at the NZMCA camp a stone throw away. Seen plenty of waterfalls while touring the Catlins. This maybe the smallest of them all
Touring around Southland with my family. Have seen lots of waterfalls along the way. This one is definitely the smallest. Found the cache many thanks.
One of just three caches (not including a local Ad Lab) we located today between Niagara Falls and Balclutha. Stayed overnight near this spot. On my first visit to the site this morning I didn’t have enough cell phone reception to bring up the hint. A little later with limited reception the hint meant that it didn’t take too long to find. #6069. TFTC.
This was our first find today. We've been here many years ago, but we hadn't no remembering on it.

A short stop for lunch and a geocache with Rossmcg. Imagine what the rest of nzs landmarks might have been called if the guy who named these falls was in charge of naming it all
Could only get GPS within 6m, had to guess the rest

Found on an expedition to the mighty Niagara Falls. Seeing as we're highly unlikely to get to the other ones we're proud to say we've been to these ones. Tftc and the laugh.
A quick photo of the famous falls . Then the search began. It took a minute for the GPS to decide where to settle. A quick find once we were on the right side of the track. Thanks for placing this cache & bringing us to view the spectacular falls.
Today from Slope Point to Cathedral Cave I found 14 caches.
It was a nice trip.
All caches was OK.
Thanks to all.

Took it longer than expected to find it. Loved the humor of naming this falls. Attaching the picture of, last page of the log book. TFTC.
Nice place and liked the photo nearby showing passenger boats below the falls!

Lol that is priceless. Hope I get to see the other one. Thanks for bringing us here.
Found after a couple of minutes today. River was very high and while the falls were impressive, they do pale into insignificance against their Northern Hemisphere counterparts. At least we can say that we have found caches at both of these locations now. TFTC [^]
Had our son with us who now normally resides in Canada so is very familiar with the namesake falls ! Thanks
We pulled up and noticed the car already here had geo caching mentioned on the back.
We then met Natalie247 as she returned to the car. It's always nice to meet a fellow geocacher on the job.
Then it was onwards to marvel at the wondrous Niagara Falls.
Thanks for setting this up

Mrs gonefishing and I are on an Easter weekend visit to Southland/Otago, enjoying the Autumn scenery and a few caches along the way.

Taking the long way home. Had stunning views in stunning weather as I made my way up the coast. I had two target caches for the day, both of which I found. Everything else was gravy.
Out and about caching in the Catlins with Gabby59, couldn't have asked for a better day and we have had an awesome time checking out the sights, and learning a new thing or two. It was our first time downloading a list to find with no service, and all in all I think it was a success!
We definitely had a great time, that's for sure TFTC

The k you for bringing us here. Would not have dreamed that nz had a Niagara Falls although ours are more rapids than falls. TFTC
We're exploring the Catlins in more detail after a quick visit about 10 years ago whetted the appetite. Lots of waterfalls on our to-do list, as well as Lake Wilkie and the Petrified Forest if we can time the tides to suit.
Staying at the NZMCA Camp across the road.
Geopup Finn and I went for a wander across the road to look at the falls and track down this geocache. Quick, easy find. TFTC.

Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit … we are now parked up at the NZMCA Niagara campsite for a couple of days, exploring in & around the area … we went for a bit of a drive this afternoon & thought it would be rude not to check this cache out … found with no issues, log completed & cache returned … pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally … TFTC ... TN:LN:SL ... #2,172 for us.
Headed for a likely spot however when I turned around I spotted the cache straight away. T4tc
Vistra and I found this cache quite quickly. Not really the falls we expected to find- haha. TFTC
AliGle and I were doing a bit of a tour around the south of the South Island in a Jucy Camper over a few weeks. Day 6 was spent exploring the Catlins coastline, an area I've always enjoyed! Made a quick find of the cache after the short walk to GZ. The falls were a bit disappointing, but I guess that's the joke! TFTC!
Found with StreetWalkerNZ as we travel from Dunedin to Invercargill.
Ha! A very droll surveyor indeed. A short walk to GZ, which looked a bit daunting but luckily SW made a quickish find. TFTC.

What a cool place! Now I can say ai have been to Niagara Falls! Found with Piwaka54 on our epic southern adventure. TFTC
A quick duck under the bushes, then bingo, an obvious spot, quick to grab. Cache dry as.Tftc

Day 8 of our South Island roadtrip & our last day in the Catlins. Today our travels took us to Waikawa, Curio Bay, Slope point & the Waipapa Point lighthouse before backtracking to Papatowai for dinner at the Perkes foodtruck & a few spots in between. We had the most awesome brunch at the Cafe in Niagara & enjoyed beautiful sunny weather & many stunning views!
Beautiful Cafe close by, HIGHLY recommend

We planned to have brunch at the cafe but had to bide our time in Waikawa until it opened. We eventually came back to the cafe and grabbed this cache at the same time. Plenty of whitebait action here. I guess with a small falls for the bait to negotiate they are a bit concentrated here for the whitebaiters. They seemed to be having a good day and we had a bit of chat with them. Cache all good, TFTC Glenfelik.
The 8th day of a South Island road trip for myself and RG1972 and our last day in the Catlins. Today we went to Waikawa, Curio Bay, Slope point and the Waipapa lighthouse before backtracking to our base via Papatowai and a few spots in between. We found a couple of great food options, some more golden sand beaches that we didn’t know the area was known for, and struck some nice weather again. All that and plenty of history and views, thanks all COs for highlighting and adding that extra special reason to visit these sites.

23 October 2021 17:45 well we have now been to Niagara Falls ummm rapids. Met a Canadian there said they weren't quite the same as their ones. Instead of the lady of the mist... we have a mist of white bait nets! TFTC Glenfelik
We were staying in our motorhome nearby so decided to check out the falls after the weather calmed down a bit (rain, hail and sleet earlier). The cache was quickly found and Mrs nzk managed to get her numb fingers to work sufficiently to sign the log. TFTC Glenfelik!
Currently on a south of the South Island holiday with 7 muggle friends having a wonderful time and managing to pick up several caches. These falls are a bit of a joke really but, yes, I have seen both Niagara Falls now! TFTC
This brings a smile to your face. Very tranquil today. TFTC favourite point from me
I am guessing the fall must get a bit more flow and vigour..as today they were very tranquil especially given that name ..or maybe it's tongue in cheek thanks for the cache
Well been there done that. I wondered where the NZMCA park was and now I know. Thanks for the cache
track overgrown and falls disappointing but cache found quickly. cafe across the road much more appealing. tftc
