Staying at the DOC campground & walking through to the main road & grabbing the few caches on this trail.
Nice quick find , thankfully no muggles around - everyone is doing the windows walk. Found a gap on the log book but all the papers are pretty full! TFTC
Found it on our todays visit of this old mining area together with Laira007. TFTC
Windows walk and Dicky's flat was on our agenda today. Just amazing how beautiful the Karangahake Gorge is.We had to stop to look for this before we went a swim at Dicky's flat waterfalls. Thanks for hiding this one.TFTC Greetings from Belgium
### New Zealand 2024 ###On our 1 week tour North New Zealand tour we visited many caches in Auckland, Habbiton, Taupo, Huka Falls, Piha, Devonport and Mount Eden.We had a lot of great experiences along the way and had a lot of fun searching for the caches. Thanks to all the owners for the great caches Team sissifalke
After strolling through the remains of the gold mine we extended the trip a bit to pick up this gem. Again it was the wife who found the cache first. Many thanks for showing us your beautiful country.Best regards from Germany,CrankyGerman
After fast visiting of Coromandel we are going to Matamata but on the left we saw nice gorge and than nice parking. We stop there for a while and walk few nice walks. Thank you for the cache in this amazing place.
Its starting to get late in the day, so last cache for now before heading back the way I'd came, back down the river trail. Certainly an interesting area, nice straight forward hint and a quick find, TFTC
Another good clue made for a quick find and a convenient place to sit and sign the log.
Thanks for putting this here for me to find

I had a couple of hours to kill before dinner time so decided a loop in the trails in Karangahake reserve was called for.
Last find on my loop run for the afternoon, had to reduce to a walk/stop/walk as I was catching up to the slow walking muggles just up ahead, and I didn't want to overtake them only to stop to look for the cache!
soon had GZ to myself and quickly made the find.
So now I could run to the carpark to finish my loop, a 10.24km loop with 11 caches in 1.50.43!!

Easy find on a leg spreader. This was missing last time I looked for it so nice to get rid of the sad face
Found during our visit of this interesting site. Quickly thanks to the hint. Thanks for hiding.
Found after exploring the windows, lost the the lid down the cliff leading to a quick and careful dive to retrieve it. TFTC!
Yay. After a few DNF situations today I was able to find this one. I was very happy to have my friends there who were pretty excited. Hopefully I have converted them..
I decided on the spur of the moment earlier this Sunday morning to shoot down from Auckland to walk this Waitawheta trail, mainly to get the oldie cache 'Waitawheta Pipeline'. I started from Dickey Flat campground. I knew the weather was going to be dodgy, and possibly raining the whole way, it didn’t but the river is really swollen after the heavy rains over the past few days.
I'm heading to the gold mining tunnel and this cache was next on my list, nice and easy find today, using my phone to step down the meters. I'm amazed these days how technology has improved (with the phones), the co-ords are spot on.
As others have mentioned, paper wet but just wipe a spot, sign in, no problem! Cheers Mr GreenBLAT!

All good but the log was damp but still able to be signed. I tucked it away further back to keep it out of the weather.
On our way from Hahei to Waihi beach, we went to Karangahake Gorge. It is really very beautiful, as is the Windows walk. Off course did some geocaching. CO's, thanks for placing and maintaining these caches.
This was a simple find on what turned out to be a very enjoyable walk. We will have to return one day as there are still plenty of tracks to explore.
What a lovely area........I was going crazy at first with all the crowds (On CHRISTMAS DAY!!!???) through the "windows" walk...I mean really dumb things....like groups of 25 that don't know how to be quiet, or people PICKING UP BABY STROLLERS and carrying them through the tunnels and up and down stairs.......Crazy, right??? I just wanted to leave, but FF65 and I had it in our minds that we were going to get a good hike in, and we pushed on and it finally got quieter and quieter and all was good! By the time we hit this cache, I was feeling a lot less tense and more like hiking. Signed the log on this one and moved on! Thanks!
nice flat walk away from all the school kids on the Windows track. good to see the big tanekaha and kauri coming through
Found as a part of a previous group TanjackMüley, aka WanderingSparrow. Now I'm continuing on my own. TFTC
QEF. Hoping to do a loop today but worried about the time. Thanks for placing!
[#1257 | 11:15] Found on a return from Coromandel back home to Tauranga. We had a spare day so we decided to visit this site. Thanks & greetings from the Czechs!
We had come to do the windows walkway and decided to detour to do this one first.
Such a nice walkway that we had no idea was here.
We met a father and son at GZ who were walking from the other direction so we had a chat about what was ahead and they told us about the tunnel which convinced us we had to do the rest. So after re-hiding the cache we headed off to explore. TFTC.

This took us WAY longer than it should have done. We walked up and down checking out multiple spots. When we eventually found it we don't know how we missed it. Lovely walk down here. Tftc.
One of 5 caches found today. Great place for walking. Had a fantastic day. Left TB TFTC

Grabbed this one as I was walking up the valley. Coords slightly out but hint made it easy to find. Tftc
Bit of a hunt around but the hint helps narrow things down. My friend soon had it in hand

Gps a bit off, over & around, but found it for the first find on the trail this morning
207 Picked up the kids from their grandparents and decided on a walk through the Karangahake gorge. Yay our first success for the day, been a bit disapointed and the kids moaning a bit but now our spirits are lifted. Had to back track 30 or so meters as our gps is not playing the game today. TFTC
Out with the kids walking the Windows Walk and picking up a few caches along the way. I was initially looking at the wrong hint item as the gps was bouncing but soon found the cache once I moved a bit we had a very friendly fantail dancing around us while we were searching.. shame he couldn’t tell us where it was to start with, TFTC!
We made a nice walk along the river and the historic places of the goldmines. Found some nice caches. Thanks for this one.
Der gezeigte Weg ist superspannend. Leider mussten wir hier wieder umkehren.

Didn't see the high wire, but found a cache. Re-hid the cache a little better since it was exposed.
Thanks for the cache.
Thanks for the cache.
Needed to put in some time on the track before heading south to do the Old Ghost Road. Too hot to go to the summit so this made a good loop with plenty of caches along the way. TFTC
Hiking all the way to Dickey's Flat seemed a little too much for us and we only made it to this cache. Things seemed more quiet here than at the Windows Walk, perfect for a quick search for the cache. Found it straightaway. TFTC GreenBLAT!

These pipes are cool, the whole area really! Bring a pen...the pencil is broken
Today's program is the Karangahake gorge including all the mining history along the way. It is interesting to see how fast nature takes over when the influence of men is gone. So many buildings are gone and overgrown and all that in a relatively short time.
The trail presents a lot of different types of trail and we started the easy way along the river Whaitawheta with a good path, tunnels and of course geocaches.
The Dubbo track appeared to be much more of a challenge, especially because climbing is not my strongest point. But the totally different track provided us with a new experience and the track is beautifull (and very slippery).
The path for the last part back was less interesting but gave us some extra caches to find.
All together it was a nice experiance and we enjoyed this a lot. There where no other people about after we left to the river track and all the others went back to the carpark along the other side of the river.
We missed the possibility of scenic views over the river, but you cannot have it all.

I scored some ridiculously cheap flights to Auckland, and that means one thing - geocaching!! i had some specific caches in mind, so I hopped into the car at the airport, and did not stopped until the K gorge car park. I have been through this area a few times previously, and always thought to myself that I will return one day and go for a walk. Today seemed like a perfect day for it, and walking I went! I had to survive in my hiking boots for the whole weekend to have suitable shoes for such an activity due to the seat only fare (I have perfected my packing technique since then ), but the cause was certainly worth it! I really enjoyed the walk! I would have never found this one without the description, as the GPS was placing me about 160m away on the other side of the river TFTC!!
After planning a trip to the bay of plenty for easter to gather a cache or two, it changed dramatically (we thought) when we heard that cyclone cook was about to bear down on this area our hopes had dropped .
Nice quick find here exactly where and how it should be.
Thanks for the smiley and the placement.
the light fading lucky we have a torch
An amazing place to visit

Mr 3 year old's legs were tiring a bit by now, but we had to get this cache before the return journey. As we were replacing the cache a family arrived on their bikes. How did they get this far and how were they going to get to the end??? They admitted they had missed the turn off, but didn't seem the least bit worried! At least they aren out there! Thanks for a great cache placement Greenblat.
Could not believe what I saw on the way to this cache a family cycling and no not on mountain bikes and no helmets Mum was on a road bike the two children were on basic children bikes and Dad up the rear with no helmet and wearing only handles ...there was quite a cue of people being held up .....arriving at GZ we had to wait for the bikers and tourists went by ......the good co ords lead to a fast find and sign ...thanks Greenblat for a nice trail of history and great cache in a deserved area
12.oopm. A quick find which was good as last time I tried it was AWOL. Left a TB that I had forgotten I had.
Thank you. David.
Thank you. David.
We came over to walk from Dickey's Flat round to Karangahake Gorge and back - great walk enhanced by a beautiful day and also by picking up a few smileys here and there. TFTC
Found this one on ur walk with the kids the other day. Missed it on the way through but got it on the way back. Tftf
We were tempted to walk on the pipe quite a few times through this part of the walk but decided against it in most instances, TFTC
Nice easy find, off for a beautiful walk while down visiting relatives - cheers
thanks for the nice walk found with abcdf4 and pukekoridge and the nice pinic area to have lunch.
Once ApacheD and I had set up camp we proceeded to do the loop track and find all the caches on the way. Nice quick find here by Apache.
