Decided to dust the bike off and complete some more of this series. It was a warm day with a nice breeze every now and then. Enjoyed my ride with only one DNF for the day. One more trip, and I should have then series knocked over. Spotted 2 snakes today, small brown at the start and a huge red belly on the way back there out and about with the change in temp. First one for the day here, parked up not far away.TFTC!

Today we drove to Bowser and unloaded our bikes to enjoy a day of caching and riding in this beautiful Spring weather. We packed a picnic to enjoy somewhere along the way.Big gap between caches here. We enjoyed the continuous ride.Collected a TB.Thanks BettyBoo3747 for the cache.

Rode another section of the Rail Trail today checking the caches as we went. Started at Londrigan Station and finished at Tarrawingee Station. Removed 2nd (old log sheet) and left the current one.

Not just one set of cattleyards but three. It would be awesome to visit on sale day or whenever they would all be in use at once.
Exploring rural Victoria as part of the SPINZ team: Sidewaze, paddle chick, Isis58 and Nanzie from New Zealand. I’m really enjoying the landscape and seeing what goes on in this neck of the woods. All the different eucalypts, the pepper trees and other interesting plants. The colourful birds, some quite noisy and some very noisy. The many vistas - - beautiful in sunlight and shade. I loved visiting each and every cache and really appreciate the effort required to hide and maintain them. Thanks to the cache owners. Found doing the M2M rail trail with 2 of my sisters over three days. We started in Wang and rode to Beechworth. The next day we coasted 14km downhill from Beechworth and then rode to Myrtleford. Finally we rode to Bright on the 3rd day.

Had a nights accommodation booked in Wangaratta as my geohusband had a jet fighter plane flight booked. When the flight was cancelled due to the weather forecast we still made the trip up and hit the rail trail for some caching. The plan was to do as much of the trail as we could. TFTC

Our final day in Wangaratta after attending the recent Mega.
We had intended to hit the trails by bike but although the day was cooler, it was still quite muggy and we haven't ridden much lately. Another time!
So we headed out in the car and worked on a variety of caches. Some from the rail trail and others in surrounding areas. Again we came across a variety of caches.
Our thanks to Geocaching Victoria for organizing the Mega and to local cachers that have given us so many to look for. We've got plenty more to do, so we'll be back!

Attending the Wangaratta Mega weekend with the ladies of FurfacesLL, we collected heaps of caches and saw many scenic views along the way. Today we were back on the bike trail, we had a mix of heat, rain, humidity, mozzies and flies.

Picking up where we left off on Friday and it was time to continue our travels. It was a great day out on the trail with lots of laughter along the way. Some finds were nice and quick and some took a little longer, but in the end, we found most.

Today we decided to head early to try and beat the heat and call into Beechworth first to do one of the labs there and then it was back onto the trail with the bikes.

Back on the trail and thankfully when we started it was still cool, but it looked like it would be a very warm one.

All caches were found along the journey unless otherwise mentioned.

In Wangaratta for the Mega, we traveled over early so we could get some local caching in. After stowing the shop in a storage shed so it wasn't bouncing around in the back of the car we set up in the caravan park and can now cache and explore. Rode the rail trial from Wang to Beechworth for 50km on a cold winter's day. Was hoping the sun would come out, but no, it didn't.....temp didn't get higher than 8 degrees. Lucky I was dressed appropiately and prepared for the day. Not many riders about either, which is surprising! Found and signed. Off I rode to the next one. Plenty of cattle spying on me too! TFTC and series.

1st for today

Robmc and I did a 30km round trip checking all my caches between Tarrawingee Station and Bowser Station and providing maintenance as required.

Rather visible as approached on foot. Checked log sheet, plenty of room. Re-hid and camouflaged.

A bit closer to the track than it shows

Accidentally took a wrong turn which is how we ended up this way. Grabbing a few caches today and thankfully it isn’t too hot although the flies are out in force. This will be our first summer caching and we are quickly realising the new challenges summer will bring.

Today is my last day off work until after the silly season. Even tho the weather is pretty horrible I wasn't going to pass up a child free caching day. It poured rain all the way from Albury to Wang than miraculously stopped at my first cache.

Caching in the Wangaratta area today trying to find as many caches as possible in our limited time here. Found a section of this trail that was close to a road which made caching by car rather than bike easy. Appreciate the time and effort put into these hides. TFTC

With such beautiful weather on the weekend, I had to make the decision do I scout out more sites on the border loop, or do I find a few new caches. Given keen to have some time with the family (and middle geoson gets carsick) decided to head down to the rail trail and collect a few. With two cars we could do some car shuffling and the geowife also got a good bike ride. I hadn't realised how many in this area could be accessed by the car, but that just helped get a few more done. In the end got 20 caches, and 1 DNF and after a late lunch in Beechworth another multi solved, but didn't have the reach to get up to the cache (will be back).

I had finally met up with the geowife and she was cycling along here - to keep the kids happy I decided to drive to the next intersection and do these from the car (though I had to go back and pickl up an 8 year old who had decided she didn't really want to ride her bike today!). I overthought this one - was looking for another micro and failed to look in the obvious spot. All good and on my way.

Today I bicycled the M2M from Wangaratta to Everton. A great ride that I thoroughly enjoyed. Had a pretty good strike rate overall, but there was the odd inevitable DNF along the way as well. With a big day of hiking behind us it was time to enjoy a few drive-bys as we made our way to our overnight campground in a round about way With torches being our best friend we managed to grab 20 or so on the trail including a DNF .

Odd feeling I’ve been here before but ‘sait la vie’ and maybe one corner can be the same as another corner- it’s a perfect autumn day to be out on the bike. TFTC

Havijng seen the devastation yesterday, caused by 6 inches of rain in mid-December (in 24 hours) I thought I had better ride the Rail Trail and check all the caches. This ride was between Tarrawingee Station and Bowser Station checking all my caches along the way. 15 kilometres, 3 hours of hard work and 38 degrees by the time we finished at 12.30pm. Mad dogs and geocachers only out in this heat. Fortunately we had a car and cold drinks waiting at the Wangaratta end.

The container was safe in its hiding place however it was sodden so we dried it out. The log sheet was OK so I left it as is for now.

Out on the deadly on a cold winters day rode the trail down as far as the Wang - Beechworth rd most were easy finds , a couple more difficult and two DNFs

Today is the 9th of June long weekend of 2018 and I managed to ride a bike for the first time in 15 years to find a heap of the Rail Trail caches with Joolay, Kitty Katch, Strangetrousers and several others. We signed the logbook as a group under the name Capital Crunches to save space on the logs. We had several DNFs along the way but most of the caches were easy and quick finds. Spotted two rabbits, millions of birds and heaps of farm animals. It was amazing, Thanks for all the caches and sorry for the generic log for this cache but with so many caches in one day it would be too hard to write a different one for each cache. I have included my Geocaching poem within my log for you and anyone else to read. I hope you all enjoy the poem and geocaching as much as I do.

I found this cache on one of the three days caching in this area. Strangetrousers and I collected about 120 caches including a multis, puzzles, an Earthcaches and Traditionals before heading back to Canberra and real life (Sadly).

***** I am currently writing detailed logs because of a challenge provided by Project-GC. "The Author" Badge challenges geocachers to average one hundred words or more in each log. As of today the 9th June 2018 my average was 70 words per log, which seems close to the 100 target. However given that I have found so many GC caches, I have to write many logs with well over 100 words for a long period of time to get my average to the target. Apologies to anyone who finds the logs tedious but it is the only way that I can strive to attain this challenge. After almost 3000 plus caches (which includes all cache finds up and including yesterday), the average log length is just over 70 words. I am now entertaining the possibility that I might be able to achieve my task before this year ends. Progress has been better than anticipated.*****

Day 2 of our MMRT trail ride weekend at Beechworth/Wanagaratta.Today I was joined by Kittykatch, Joolay, CBRChic, Geosnag1 and DarkSideDan. So we resumed where we left off yesterday at Everton and managed a much better rythym today, broken only by the occasional difficult find or DNF. I think we rode about 35 Km in total, but it wasn't too bad being mostly long flat stretches. We spotted lots of cows, sheep, some horses and a few goats along the way. Not a few cyclists also passed us also. We even came across a family of first time geocachers and gave them a few hints.


Logs variously signed as "Capital Crunchers", "CBR Crunchers" and "Canberra Crunchers". And thanks to Grimraider for the transport today.

Fantastic day riding from Everton to Wangaratta on the 2nd day of riding the trail. Beautiful sunny day and such a lovely area to ride through and great trail. Did not find all as some were tricky. Rode a 10km section of the rail trail from Tarrawingee Station to Milepost 152 and back, checking all caches along the way and doing maintenance where required.

There was room around the outside of the A4 sheet but decided to replace the log sheet today.

After our run along Rusholme Rd. we decided to start our attack on the rail trail caches at this one.
Fortunately I had another set of eyes with me today, and the good wife was able to locate this one even though I was looking straight at it.
Not a cyclist or muggle in sight so it was great for us.

First find for the day. There was a large group of cows here to greet us GPS was not honing in but the GZ had a clear spot so the find was soon made. With indianagleeson and shellumbus. TCTC.

On another Ceocachin run this morning which started of a bit slow thenpicked up as the day changed from cool to very warm. I found this along with a number of others on this run. All cache found were in working order. TFTC.

Headed down to Victoria with steeba and Hoojar to be part of the 3rd Victorian Mega celebrations in Alexandra. Our 3-day leave pass ensured we’d be constantly on the go! From 300 finds in the Mt Disappointment area to 10 different cache types there was never a dull moment.

This was day 3 of our road trip and it was time to head for home but not before we bagged a few more caches around Wangarratta and then some highway finds.

Thanks to all the cache owners who contributed to a great 3 days caching with my fellow caching buddies. My apologies about the template style log, it certainly doesn’t detract from the thrill of the ‘find”.

Found as part of a few days away with my great caching mates The Rats and Hoojar. Our main aim was the Mega event in Alexandra but we managed to find most of the Mt Disappointment series, did 9 or 10 cache types in a day (side trip to Mt Buller and then Melbourne CBD). Some great laughs, camping under the stars, a nicely organised Mega and some great wildlife (koala and echidnas ). TFTC!

The idea of going down to Victoria and to the Alexandra Mega was original floated by Steeba. Normally Megas are not something that I am super keen to attend, but the opportunity of also collect some serious numbers on the Mount Disappointment caching trail, and finding some Lab Caches really helped to sweetened the deal. I was in, along with my long time caching buddies Steeba and The Rats.

We left Wollongong at 8pm on Thursday evening, returning at 5pm on Sunday, 2,500km and over 400 cache finds later. With less than a handful of DNFs, a wonderful result!

Highlights of the trip included:
- Finding over 330 caches on Friday, the entire Mount Disappointment trail;
- Finding ten unique cache types on Saturday, which included a drive to both Mount Buller for a Web Cam, and then back for a late night Melbourne CBD visit for a Virtual;
- Meeting up with a few local Wollongong cachers in Alexandra;
- Setting two new personal records, for my most cache finds and cache types in a day;
- The always good company and banter of Steeba and The Rats;
- Seeing six echidnas, and a koala (my first sighting of a koala on the ground in the wild); and
- The absolute highlight of the trip was watching Sir The Rats be inducted into the Australia Geocaching Hall of Fame (or maybe the jokes that Steeba and I had over the weekend over the honour!).

Thanks to all of the cachers that hid caches for us to find over our short trip away. I have little doubt in thinking that we will be back to these parts again at some stage to find more caches!

Log 1169 Streak Day 313

This is our fourth trip to the northern island this year. The first three were primarily for family events but withe some opportunities to do some caching along the way. The fourth trip is different as caching is our focus. After getting off The Spirit of Tasmania we are heading north to cache at Wangaratta and then Yass before heading into the ACT and Queanbeyan for a week. After that we will travel to Jindabyne for a few days with summiting Mount Kosciuszko being our main target for this part of our trip. Then we will visit Cooma and Tumut before heading back down the track through Wangaratta and Mansfield as we make our way to Alexandra for the MEGA. After the weekend we will continue to make our way south and back onto the Spirit of Tasmania for the “drive” across Bass Strait. We are really looking forward to three weeks of intense caching in great areas and, hopefully, catching up with some geocachers in each of the areas we will visit.

For the first part of the day we cached from Craigieburn to Wangaratta looking for caches which were easy to access as we headed north. For the remainder of the day we cached from Wangaratta to Beechworth. Each time we visit Wangaratta we try to allocate some time to look for caches in the Wangaratta, Myrtleford and Beechworth areas. During our earlier visits we concentrated on the excellent Hoop Star series and we started on some sections of the rail trails as well as individual caches in each of the areas. This trip we were hoping to explore some other sections of the extensive rail trails.

The caches in this section of the rail trail were easily accessible as it was just a short walk from where we parked the car to GZ. Despite the coordinates being reasonably accurate, it took a minute or so to locate this well hidden cache because it was very well hidden and a little difficult to access. The ground around GZ had been very wet and plugged by hooved animals making the ground very uneven. The cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks BettyBoo3747 for this cache and all your caches along the various rail trails in between Wangaratta and Beechworth.
