As this cache has been out of action for too long, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

This cache should be archived for 3 reasons. (1) The replacement cache (not left by the CO) has gone missing. (2) The cache is within just a few metres of the final of another cache (GCNEVM). (3) The CO hasn't been active for 2 & 1/2 years - this is his only placed cache.

I couldn't find any sign of anything, and I didn't have a spare container.

I enjoyed a great walk up here this Easter weekend. The weather was beautiful and there was a profusion of mushrooms and toadstools everywhere. The cache was unattached as per the previous log. The log itself was soaking wet and very slimy, I took a picture as I would have ripped the log if I had written on it. Great views from up here, tftc!

Had the morning to myself and a few weeks ago I came a bit up this track to get the Bendy Tree cache. I said I'd be back to have a walk to the hut. The morning was lovely and I headed up the track. Found a cache along the way and decided to have a crack at this one. I saw that this one had few DNFs so I hobbled together a cache from the contents of the hut and headed down the track. I couldn't find this one I even climbed down the back and had a look below but couldn't even find the string. So I replaced the cache and went to find the 'nearby' multi. Jeepers that's close. I emailed CO with what I had done but no reply. There is a cache there just not hanging. Next one up this way please grab a wee baggie for the log. Thanks.

Thanks for the cache trailbaby.

DNF
I searched all over the throne but couldn't spot neither the cache nor the black string.

I wonder how this cache got published as it is really close to a final location of another one. Really close.

Today's tramping club outing was a tramp from Geddes Pass to Kaituna. I thought that this would be the ideal opportunity to make a quick signing of the cache. The Giant's Throne was quickly identified and scaled. But, unfortunately, the black string was nowhere apparent. After being forced to wait 2 minutes the APPOINTED TAIL-END-CHARLIES started to protest at their forced stop. I was making them late for lunch at the Sign of the Packhorse hut. I told them to go on and that I would be along shortly. But no, according to the club rules they, being the APPOINTED TAIL-END-CHARLIES, had to be last of the group. So I was forced to abandon my search. Sad I must admit that I was somewhat surprised that I hadn't been able to sight the string. I will place the cache on watch and will revisit (solo) once I have verification that the cache is still there.

Found black string easily. Cache was fallen 20m down the hillside . Returned it tied up with the string.

I am sure that rock arrived shortly after one of those earthquakes, that would have been a rather interesting sight.
Cheers and thanks for a nice easy find.

On Sunday my daughter Meike and I started a hiking track from Gebbies Pass via Mt Herbert to Stoddard Point in Diamond Harbour. We stayed over night at the Packhorse Hut.
Before arriving we came to the Giant's Throne. After a short search we found the cache. It was in a good condition. We stayed there for a while and enjoyed the perfect view, across to the Southern Alps. For this I give a favorite point to this cache.
Next morning we continued the track heading up to Mt. Herbert and straight down to Stoddard Point, where we arrived at early Monday afternoon.
This trip was an amazing experience for us.

Thank you for the cache

FTF? ...(there appeared to be another couple names in the log dated in March? but no one she recognised?..and no one has logged it yet?)...
Sent Mrs G off for a "wee" run this morning whilst I minded the boys and did a few chores around home (including FTFing AB44!)......She parked up at the Gebbies Pass entrance to the track and ran in. Turned on the GPS as she exited the tree's and was surprised that GZ was closer than anticipated. She spied the mighty throne & made a quick find and sign before turning tail and heading back. 50min up & 40min back. Nice. Thanks for the cache.

Hi Team Gaters, yes you were the first to find it! My apologies for the confusion - when we placed the cache, a couple people got overexcited and signed our own log book, haha. Greenhorn mistake I guess. Glad you found it all right. Thanks for logging your find, it's good to know it's in good shape. Ciao, Matthias
