I am regretfully archiving this cache since there's been no response from nor action by the cache owner within the time frame requested in the last reviewer note.

Hi Cerezo

This geocache was brought to my attention as being in need of an owner maintenance visit and after my previous reviewer note, there has been no owner response. The cache owner needs to check on this cache ASAP and either replace it or archive it, after picking up any geo-litter. See the [maintenance section of the Geocache Listing Requirements/Guidelines](http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx#listingmaintenance).

I've added this cache to my watchlist, and I will check back in four weeks to be sure that the maintenance has been done. In the meantime, I have temporarily disabled this listing. When the maintenance is completed, the owner can enable the listing by clicking on the link below the cache name to return it to active status.

Whatever your intentions, please **post a note** here on the cache page (not email) to let us know that you are still active and maintaining the cache. If a month passes without seeing a response, then I'll assume that this listing should be archived.

Please note, that if a cache is archived due to lack of owner maintenance, the cache is unable to be unarchived.

Prolonged look but no..

23-Apr-19
Despite a prolonged and what we thought was a thorough search we failed to find the cache today. We will have to search again next time we come to the island.

Found this pretty easy and no prblem with the hide. Unfortunately the log is pretty much worse for where and is no better than earlier pictures posted. Some TLC could be applied but we got the yellow face and I guess that's all that counts. Later that afternoon we returned to Motutapu and found a DOC ranger with dog sniffing around. Dog 'found cache' Or above it anyway- turns out the dog was searching for feral cats around the two islands. Very friendly ranger who explained where he had been etc. Thanks for the find

#556. I was worried how easy this one would be to find but turned out I didn't need to worry, and I found it straight away (and nothing dropped out of my pack and into the river - woohoo!)

Today four of us walked from Rangitoto wharf to Motutapu via the coastal track, and found five geocaches along the way.

Thank you very much for the cache!

Bit of a reach and a crawl to get this one. Didn't fall in, so all good.
Thanks for the cache.

This cache turned into a bit of adventure for me. As I was searching my coke bottle fell out of my rucksack into the river. I couldn’t leave it on this litter free so managed to retrieve further down river eventually. Back to my search and soon spotted. Greetings from Edinburgh. Tftc

Wonderful Island, love it.
Thanks for hiding!

This was tricky to put my hands on as it had been put a long way along out of reach even with my long arms. Got it eventually without falling in the water. I made sure it was easier for the next person. TFTC

12-Aug-18
Well Gorby did not find it but it is there but it took some work to retrieve it. It is not in the best of shape and the logbook is quite damp. It will need some TLC in the near future

On my way back to Islington Bay with rusty, have had an epic adventure today.

The cache, is probably there, but unless your an Olympic gymnast (which I'm not) you won't find it that easily! We're tired so unless it's a quick park n' grab, we're not interested!

Nice quick find. Actual log dry but written logs appeared washed out. Beautiful day.

It is sopping wet! Just about managed to log. TFTC

Soggy log. Beautiful place. Bridge not needed today. Fabulous swim after lunch. Now for the summit.

I decided to have a wander around the Island signing off the odd cache or two. I had to wait for a couple of muggles to move on before locating the cache.

Cheers for the cache.

Sailed in for the night so thought a bit of geocaching was on the cards. Took a friend along & we had a great adventure. TFTC

Following a few days work in Auckland, I stayed over for the weekend to spend a day walking (and caching of course) on Rangitoto Island with my daughter who lives in Auckland. Due to the weather, we were dropped at the Islington Bay Wharf, so this was our first cache of the day. Quickly found. TFTC.

As it's been a while now since I finally qualified for all of the GIO series I thought it was about time I head back over there to see if I can turn the rest of the series into smiley faces. The initial plan was to head over with the family, but as the weather forecast didn't look great at all the plan was quickly upgraded to an island clean up attempt while the family stayed at Nana's!

The day turned out to be a great success, with the weather holding out til the last few hours on the island, and nearly all caches attempted found. One massive search which resulted in a DNF, took the last little bit of time needed to do the full loop and clean out the island. Oh well...I'm sure I'll be back another day.

Yes an interesting spot indeed. A quick find here today. As there is need for a bridge I'm leaning on the "or not" side of the fence.

A big thanks for placing this cache!

Searched at one corner for ages before reading the logs. Searched at the other corners and could finally spot it. I think it must have been slipped away a bit as it wasn't easy to reach at all. Logbook was also soaked - maybe a result of the heavy rain during the last week.
Beautiful spot, thanks for hiding, Cerezo!

18-Mar-17
Very easy find for our girls. Nice to have one that isn't off the beaten track! We've had to abandon two today as they were to dangerous for the kids to do as they were off track on very rocky ground. So thank you for a great cache!

18-Mar-17
On a day trip with Yorkshirekiwi83 to gather some of the caches on the east of the island and hopefully some licences. Found a plastic bag on the ground so immediately started searching in that area. No luck and so widened the search and it turned out to be quite an easy find once on the correct side, thanks

KirsTim and I ventured over to the island early this morning for a day of adventure on Rangi. Started off very plesant under cloud cover, occasionally looked like it was going to rain, but no it settled on very hot and sunny. Had a fab day and collected some caches that had been steadily growing over here.

What a difference between the two islands, its like a personality split, happy easy going Motutapu vs angry hostile Rangi. Took a while to locate the cache, our coords put us to one corner and there was a distint location it could be, but nope, we did find a silver small container with the word Geocache on it across from this location however and look to be a replacement.

Our group of Geocachers were staying on Rangitoto and Motutapu for a couple of days and we stopped to try and find this one.
I personally found it extremely easy to find, as the first place I looked was where it was located.
Our group decided to take out the Geo coin that someone had placed in here, moving to another location.
We added our names to the list and returned it in the spot that we had found it in.

Miss Jackson was doing a tramp from Rangitoto Wharf to Home Bay Campsite for their Duke of Edinburgh Award (Bronze) and took a nice break here to look around. Had a look over, under (as lowish tide) and on the surrounding rocks but sadly couldn't find it and had to keep walking to get to the campsite before dark.

07-Jan-17
I too stopped and had a good search for this one on 7 Jan. Not really that many places you could hide a small sistema around the bridge. After about 10 minutes I gave up and headed west.

09-Oct-16
Got the ferry to Islington Bay, and took the gentle stroll to GZ. Was with UGNZ who searched on one side of the bridge, whilst I went the other. Quickly the call came out she had found it. Thanks for the hide, lovely spot for a cache Big Grin

09-Oct-16
Nice stroll around this side of the Island, quick find with clue. The cache was trying to escape down the bank so popped back safely. Great day enjoying the Heritage Festival eith rustynz and Friends.

09-Oct-16
Great little cache. Had to check around the bridge a bit but got there in the end. Was on a walk to shipwreck bay and also the open day for the baches in Islington Bay area. Well worth the trip. TFTC

Took a group of 9 scouts from whangarei on a tramping camp, spending the first night at the scout bach, then tramping to home bay at motutapu and staying there the second night, tramping back on different tracks and staying in the bach on the thrid/last night. Also walked to the summit (as a night hike) and flax point as part of exploring the island and collect 17 caches over these 4 days with the kids who really got into it.

Found it .. easy find. Looks like people have not been following the instructions.. as the only contents was a domino piece... we did not place anything in the container as we did not have anything with us, however when we visit again we will put a treasure in the container Smile thank you

At high tide like now it's easy to see water under the bridge. Years ago we paddled around Rangitoto and had to drag the boats a long way over the mud and under the bridge. We have always considered them apart. As we walked away we heard a saddleback and managed to see it and a whitehead. NINO TFTC

Today I decided to visit Rangitoto for some hiking and caching and was great! I'm from Gerany and so I never saw a landscape like this in my live. So interesting and unusual and beautyfull! So I walked and walked and walked around the whole day and enjoyed every moment.

And this was the right decision: No one went in this direction and so I had the lovely coastal trail for me alone. Here I meet people again, but it wasn't a problem to pick up the cache. And: Not together!

Thanks a lot for the cache.

If there's a bridge then they are not together but thanks for bringing me here and placing my first steps on Motutapu. TFTC

jard1037 said there was a cache here when we muggled him earlier, so we thought we might do a little search despite having no co-ordinates and no clues. Found it and signed the log. Thanks for placing more caches at this end of the island. Our cache has been here on its own for too long. Not expecting to be caching today, we had no trades. TFTC.

18-Feb-16
Great walk around when I was visiting via boat.

23-Jan-16
I say not together as I've always thought that causeway looks a little bit man made. However, over time I reckon these two would definitely join at the hip as the silt builds up and the mudflats turn into swamp and eventually land. Anyway, enough about that, a nice quick find here and technically, my first find on Motutapu. TFTC!!! Big Grin

06-Dec-15
I headed out on this fine day for yet another visit to Rangitoto. My focus for the day was to pick up the newer caches on the Eastern side of Rangitoto and the Western side of Motutapu - in all a very long day on the islands, with lots of walking! Stopped for this one on my way from Rangitoto to Motutapu and made a quick find along the way - a good spot to see the contrasts of the 2 islands. TFTC!

So it was a matter of deciding which size and being careful not to fall in. Spotted a couple of children's balls caught up in the mangroves.

Late log
Was walking down the track towards the bridge and a volunteer stopped and gave me a lift some way up motutapu. Big Grin had a chat and told me a bit of history of the us base.
Walked the rest of the way up to the barracks with its grand view Big Grin
Great to explore more of the islands.
Had to wait for a group to leave before a quick scramble for the cache

A late log ! My very first NZ cache, found during a lovely visit to Rangitoto with two friends. We met with the awesome family that put the cache there. Thanks for the cache and for the chat ! Smile

02-Aug-15
On my way to Rangitoto with the plan to collect the last two GIO Geocaching Licences I decided to stay on the ferry to Motutapu and walk my way back instead of doing just the costal walk.
Easy find at GZ. TFTC

05-Jul-15
Had a few minutes to spare before the ferry arrived so grabbed this cache before leaving the island. Today the islands were definitely apart, there was plenty of water in the channel. TFTC

I decided today to explore Rangitoto. This island looks really impressive from all over Auckland and the surroundings... let's have a look ! I wake up early this morning in order to catch the first ferry at 7h30. I want to have as much time as possible on the island, until the last ferry at 4 pm. The weather is great, windy but this is not a problem on most of the tracks.
Just after arriving in Islington Bay, I head towards Rangitoto wharf through the coastal track. The landscape is amazing, and the track challenging with a lot of stones - hopefully, I like this ! I walk in the forest and on lava rocks ; sometimes, I cross some lava fields with only lichens on it - very impressive !
4h later, I'm down from the summit after a lot of discoveries - the crater, the view, the lava caves, the landcape, a few geocaches... I decide to visit the other Island, Motutapu and head towards Home bay...
I stop on the bridge and find this one.
Cache is in good condition.
Thanks for the cache.

We are out on Rangitoto today mainly to pick up some more of the Licence Challenge caches. However we had some time in hand so decided to do a couple of new caches that had popped up on the Rangi end of Motutapu.
In response to the cache title question - seeing as how there is a narrow stretch of sea-water between the two islands we would say 'close but not quite.'
Arrived at the bridge and checked out a few possible spots before seeing the cache. Just managed to reach and retrieve it. On opening it up we were surprised to be greeted with a blank logbook. Thanks for the cache and an unexpected First to Find.
