Out for a morning of Horowhenua caching with Etherlord and TwigNZ - great company and helped to knock off a few DNFs As soon as we went over the little bridge, the name of the cache became apparent. Love it! Makes you wonder about the reasoning behind such a large undertaking of concrete when everyone else (flooding included) is content with baton farm fencing. WOuld like to know more about thisCache in good nick and log dry.Mihi ki a koe, Paul303, mo te keteroki #316

The EtherClan are having a friend's son overnight with collection in Levin.Last night, EtherLady suggested that I should go pick him up, and even sweetened the deal by "allowing" me to go caching on the way. Yeah, you're still not selling it to me to give up my Saturday morning sleep-in!?!With [@TwigNZ](https://coord.info/PRPHK6E) and [@jeanjeanie](http://coord.info/PRB8C2C) in attendance at our fortnightly board gaming night, their interest in joining a road trip was what tipped the scales for me going and allowing EtherLady to claim the sleep-in. Good company is important to me when on a roadtrip [^]I was driving and concentrating on the road (and the pot holes and the puddles) so missed the obvious as we crested the bridge, but JJ's comment of "that explains the name!" made me look around and see why this GZ was chosen.

Came down to do maintenance on one of my caches. Thinking I needed a couple of caches today for my 6th loop of the calendar I got these on the way back home.Everything wet in this one.Dried all out and added a page of RITR to the log along with my name. All good now. TFTC

A trip across the bridge to China and an instant find by a rather serious — but dilapidated — concrete wall. Thanks for another country paul303

04-Feb-23
Originally headed to the wrong side of the road. Not here - check the hint - that concrete post ends in the water! The cache is not going to be there! Ah! we're in the wrong place! We found the cache pretty quickly after that. It wasn't till I was back at the car that I made the connection with the cache name! Of course! I wonder what France will be like??

With my original plans for the weekend cancelled I got a sudden invite from a geocaching friend for a trip to the Ohau. TrintyNZ had six caches she needed for a challenge. I had a few I wanted but mostly it was just a fun day out. So I got up early (ie, my normal time) and took a bus into town and another out to Waikanae (no trains - maintenance everywhere). And we headed north.lots of light rain - I should have brought a raincoat, but then it turned into a stinking hot day - I should have brought a hat. I did bring sunscreen though. Needed it, too.

Road tripping with TheSeagnoid today. As we were heading from Shannon to Foxton, we decided to call in and attempt this cache. We initially tried the wrong side of the road, but after checking the hint, quickly made the find.

It wasn’t until a few minutes later, back in the car, that the light bulb lit up and TS figured out the meaning of the clever cache name.

Thanks for the cache Smile

That certainly is an expensive way to fence off your paddock...
Quick find, after going to the wrong side first of course!

Also wondered about the title of this one, was visible from space! Found a damp wasps nest nearby, cool framework. T F T C

There's been hardly any caching by me during this month of July this year, one of my lowest yields, but hey. Reason being lots of rain and poor weather, and me having intentions in August to tidy up and improve my calendar stats. Headed out on a 'loop' of sorts today looking to mop up some straggler caches out back of Foxton and a trip for another Geotour cache out Shannon way. Along the way here and there I placed four new caches which should be published next weekend, and plenty of cool scenery sighted as I admired the snowy tops of the Tararuas and Ruahines (from afar). Thanks to all COs for their hides.

4 February 2022 16:05. China? Ah yes! Also reminded me of the Netherlands somewhat, with the lowlands and the polders to protect them. A qiuck find, and cache is in good condition. TFTC.

Visited some time ago, but couldn't log due to a health issue -now catching up on a few un-logged caches. A quick easy find as soon as a local farmer moved away. Cache in good condition.

23-Oct-21
Due to the postponement of the Auckland Mega, Buttels and the Crystal half decided to use the dates planned for the event to do some caching between Wellington and Palmy. Quick and easy find. Wouldn't want to be near that wall when it finally falls over. Thanks for the cache

17-Feb-21
Arrived in Foxton to do some caching. Parked the camper van in town and got the bike out. Like combining caching and cycling as you get to see so much more and it’s good for the exercise. Did a loop to this cache and back detouring to collect all the nearby caches. Loved cache titles that makes you wonder what you are going to find then on arrival they make to smile because you get it. Happy to give it a favourite. Thanks for the smiley.

Out and about finding some caches on a lovely spring day. Although we knew exactly where to look we had to wait ages for a herd of cows to wander down the road and off for milking. When they had passed, we make a quick grab. Thanks for the cache paul303. Lovely scenery around here.

A big mission to the Manawatu day today, picking up a variety of cache types for an internet-based challenge.

The last of the caches between the Foxton-Shannon Road and the river. I was worried about crossing the ditch but realised that there was a gate hidden under all that vegetation, which meant a way over. The cache itself was quickly found, too. All good here. TFTC

Another straight forward find, but I met a herd of cows heading my way and had to do a quick 5 point turn in my truck on the very narrow country road. A quick grab and I beat a hasty retreat. TFTC

Heading to Wellington Mega a day earlier with Squirrel Nutcase and NZ Flossy a day earlier.
Out to collect caches that we have previously passed.
So sorry cache owners, we had a fairly large find today so it's a copy and paste day.
Thanks everyone for their cache placements that we found. SLTFTC

WENZ Mega Weekend is almost here... Motoring south today with Gap (of Fap and Gap), and NZFlossy. Our intention is to cache our way to our accommodation in Lower Hutt... The big news of the day is that Highway 1 is closed at Pukerua Bay. A truck crash and chemical spill have shut down all lanes coming to and from Wellington. We have plenty of caches to find to keep us occupied, but this could be a long wait...

Friday: Our final push in the area will take us through the communities of Opiki, Shannon, and Foxton... That wall was angled quite precariously... TFTC.

19-Oct-18
On my way to the mega with Squirrel Nutcase and Fap and Gap. Having lots of fun and enjoying the ride and the scenery. It’s what I love about caching - great company and visiting great places. Thanks to all the COs for all their caches Hopefully we see some of them at the mega this weekend TFTC

After spending the morning at TwigNZ’s work we headed north to do the “Chewy Mint Trail”. With a total of 40 for the day, we were pleased with ourselves, and the fact that we obliterated our past record number of caches in one day made it all the better. We started at “Where have all the golf balls gone?” and ended the day with “Manawatu Rail: Buckley’s Wharf”.
Found the cache quickly after parking at GZ, the cache is all in order but the container is a little wet.

What a day! My son and I decided to go hard out today to see how many caches we could do in an afternoon. We were lucky enough to be blessed with glorious weather, when the forecast had been for showers, so that definitely helped us to get a great result
I apologise in advance for the generic log, but there was no way I would have been able to write up each Cache as I went along, so am logging them now in bulk (sort of)

So we had decided in advance to hit the Chewy Mint Trail, plus a few other Caches along the way, and on the way home, to see how we got along.

The result all up was 40, of which this was the thirty fifth.

Quick and easy find, and in keeping with the name of the Hide. Signed the log as "T & T" for myself and my son (Thatweirdguy04).

Thanks for the Cache

I traveled down to Palmerston North for a 3 day geocaching weekend to give my numbers a bit of a boost, as I head towards my next caching milestone. I decided to fly there and back and pick up a cheap rental car for the weekend. The weather was perfect and I had a great weekend down there.

Today I drove down to Foxton Beach for a more leisurely day of caching, with a focus more on numbers tomorrow. Wasn't sure what the Chinese connection would be here, but it all made sense as I drove up to GZ. A quick find then off to France. TFTC!

Since I was back in the region for a couple of weeks I decided a big day caching was on order. Calls were made and plans were put in place and Jesso22, Stardust 718 and I set off in my new 4WD to collect a heap of caches. The first cache was collect at 7am and last one just before 7pm. The final numbers came to just of 150 so a productive day was had.

For months we had been planning a 100+ day but the timing had just never worked out for us. Now with Christmas and all of our summer activities behind us and AtomsNZ back in town it was the perfect time! AtomsNZ arrived at my house at 6.45am with Stardust718 in tow and off we went on our mission. The day was quite successful, started with a few solved puzzles then on to the KAS trail and the mint tin trails before squeezing in as many caches around Foxton, Levin and Shannon that all three of us hadn't previously found. Final total was just over 150 (just to be on the safe side in case we made a counting error). Most caches signed as AJS (or JAS depending on who signed it) to save room in the logs as some were quite full. Thanks to all of the COs it was a great day with many great finds.

27-Feb-16
# 1051: I joined forces with AtomsNZ and Jesso22 for a 14 hour caching day. Found at 6:27:00 p.m. The main goal was the KAS trail and however many more nearby caches we could find. Our total came out at just over 150 for the day so we were all pretty happy with that. Thanks to the many CO's that made this day possible. We had a great time travelling lots of back roads.

Log signed as AJS (our team name for the day).

Wasn't impressed with the waist high wet grass while accessing GZ that left my legs itchy for the rest of the day. Made it to the cache though and signed log.

#1890. Well into night caching by this stage. Pulled up and wasn't sure about how to reach the GZ with that nasty moat. But spied the drawbridge and soon made it to the great wall and a quick find by torchlight. All dry inside... Well I have been planning on having a trip to the Manawatu for some time to pick up the powertrails. With the run of great weather we have been having I booked a motel for two nights at Foxton and planned for Friday 12 February to be my "Manawatu Big Day Out". I had prepared an Excel sheet with 170 caches listed on it in a logical driving order going from Foxton through the various trails and over to Palmie and SE to Shannon and back across to Foxton. My first goal was to get enough finds to crack the 142 in 24 hr challenge, then get over the 150 barrier, and all going well see if I could exceed my current largest day of 57 caches by an extra 100 caches. Well the day dawned fine and I was on the road and at my first cache by 6.40am. I unlocked the motel door at 11pm with 158 caches under my belt. Some caches were memorable. Others just made up the numbers. Thanks so much to the CO's who put them out for me to find. Cheers GSEL

26-Jan-16
missed logging this after doing the near by KAS trail.
A quick park & grab, although I have to say the wall isn't as "great" as I'd hoped it would be. Interesting & slightly random though.
Left a pet rock - a crab (I think). Thanks paul303

11-Jan-16
We pulled over as far as the new? Fencing would allow, and hoped we wouldn't be here too long as the roads quite narrow.
Hyjynx and myself split up and checked both areas that something could be hidden in/by.
She came out of top and wrestled it out of hiding, soon signing ceremony was completed and we had a discussion about the gz and how it may of come to be that way.
Cheers

Easy find. Weird to have a wall here. Many thanks for the cache.

21-Nov-15
not so sure where to park as the local farmer has put in a race on the pull over area, not to worry his has left the gate bit open so managed to pull off in there cross the road and wonder why a wall like that there nice quick find, thanks for the placement feels like its blowing a gale

17-Nov-15
Heading south on business with a plan to pick up some caches as I went and this was one of thirty odd picked up on the way there and back. Having visited Paris or Italy, it was only right I should visit China as well. I too was surprised to see this great wall in the back blocks, would be interesting to know why there was a need to build such a significant and no doubt expensive wall? Anyways, the cache was quickly located and the paoperowk completed. Thanks for the tour paul303.

14-Nov-15
Cache caused much comment such as " why is that edifice here?" However, although there is not much traffic about, finding a place to park was tricky especially when faced with an oncoming large herd of cows. Speed was of the essence so conversation with the cowman was impossible, although from the look on his face he thought me crackers.

A mission was needed to complete one of the last few licence challenges on Rangitoto Island, so a passing comment to C&D at an event and this mission was soon planned. We nearly achieved what we set out to accomplish, with only 1 more cache to find to complete the challenge but that was due to miss-reading the fine print on the challenge page.

So with the mission lasting 48 hours we amassed a great set of numbers, 317 caches found, just over 1200km travelled, about 7 hours of sleep, C&D finding his 180th earthcache, completing the KAS powertrail in under 3 hours and finding numerous amazing geocaches. A lot of fun was had along the way, and some great memories were created. A big thanks to everyone for placing all the caches along the way, this mission wouldn't have been as much fun if they weren't there!

A few stragglers of the 4 legged mooggle gang than were roaming the streets further up the road were still about. Checked a couple of spots before C&D made the find.

Well another mission down the line in what HKCB and I were expecting to be another large caching weekend where numbers were the target, Sleep was for the weak, OCD=commitment , and petrol was a must. We left home at 6pm and headed straight down here to start what was going to be a long couple of days, so with much planning (compliments of HKCB) and a good supply of nourishing caching supplies in the back.
With a total of 1250 kms (just a short drive) and 5 hours of sleep we were definitely going to earn our rest by Sunday evening when we got home. Oh, we even managed to attend an event along the way and meet fellow cachers from the area while in Wanganui.

This was the one hundred and second for the day, the one hundred and sixteenth for the weekend. Having just finished the nearby KAS Trail it was nice (sort of) to get back to a bit more regular caching. We came across a lot of cows out wandering the roads man was the local farmer going to be pissed when he gets up
Thankfully both HKCB and I enjoy caching through the night, well we have had plenty of experience of it, especially as we are both working on individual challenges, mine being the DGSc Challenge and includes the Night Caching elective.

So again thank you for the FUN of the hunt

Hahaha, after finding France earlier in the day, and then being a smart bugger suggesting that China wasn't too far away, I get a notification that I was right.., we very nearly checked this area on a whim while we were out here earlier, but decided not to.

I'd thought of putting caches out here myself and the hints would've been very similar... I guess warped minds think alike.

At risk of having to make another rush trip out here... In an abstract way, you could almost 'Visit Venice' not far from here too...

This was s joint FTF with Lil Rascal, his first 'official' FTF since becoming a proper member.
