TECatS (TwigNZ, Etherlord Clan, and the Seagnoid) are on the trail again!
It's been a while since our last forest foray, and even I have noticed the impact of this lack of tree time on my mental well being. Me thinks we best do something about remedying this?
When the Coppermine Creek area was suggested, I was enthusiastically eager to enter the area.
My Dad and I tramped to the former Coppermine Creek Hut when I was about 9, and I've always wanted to go back to the area.
A few years ago I researched the hut, only to find that it has been removed some time in the last 30 years...
*I really should get around to placing a cache here instead?!?*
TwigNZ and the Seagnoid stayed the night at my 127.0.0.1 and we set off approx 8am.
A quick trip over the Saddle Road through the wind farm, and we were soon onto the gravel road leading to the Earthcache in the carpark at the end of the road.
With the required information gathered, we set off on the track towards the carpark.
What, is that right? Yes, yes it is! It's a loop track after all
Wow, what a slog to get her! I turn 40 in about 2 weeks, and this track reminded me that I'm no where near as fit as I used to be (working from home thanks to covid instead of cycling to work hasn't helped)
But, we got to GZ, and then we found the cache! The logbook shows that it wast found 3years and 2days ago. Another 1000+day lonely cache! Woo hoo!
Also in the cache container was a red pen that came from the Incremental Event (10-11-12) that tS and I ran 9.5years ago. We both smiled when we saw it ?
Thanks for the hide, and the long overdue tree time.

TECATS (TwigNZ, Etherlord and the Seagnoid) are out again for another therapeutic walk in the woods. I don't get enough tree time . The original intent was to walk to Wharite, but then we realised we didn't have the time for that so just went to the mine sites and back via the loop. Along the way we checked every archived cache and of the four we looked for only found this one. Was hoping for more, but them's the way it goes.
After a walk up the valley to both mine drifts (how come no caches there?) we turned back to walk up Wharite. Even if just to walk a little way up. About 5 minutes in we realised this is just silly - all this climbing to find one archived, probably missing cache, when we only have to come back one day to get the rest anyway. So instead abandoned that and came around this loop instead (saves having to go back across one of the slips!). Nice uphill slog. Assuming "nice " is the right word here. And very nice to get to the top! The track to Billy oat's is not marked on the map. Is that all that it goes to? or does it carry on past the stream?
Having been a geocache hider of many, many hundreds of caches ("many, many" equals three) I totally get the that the CO could not find her own cache. Been in that boat myself a number of times. But TECATS never let a cache's archived status get in the way of a hunt, and the three of us got stuck in. Found it a short time later. The cache is still in reasonably good nick, and we get not only an archived find but another lonely find as well (which for me is now #382).

It's been been a while since TECATS (TwigNZ, Etherlord Clan and the Seagnoid) have arranged to spend a day tramping together, but plans were made a little while ago that we would have a bit of a wander around some of the tracks around Coppermine Creek.
We love these kind of tracks that take you off for a little tree-time, and if we can find a few caches along the way then all the better. Even more so if they are archived, as we love finding those!
Hmmmm, the sign says a 2hr walk to return to the carpark via this loop. Well, we all know how inaccurate DOC signs can be. Actually, not this one. We took almost exactly 1 hour to reach this cache from the junction with the sign. Quite a slog uphill. But we were in no rush, so just went up as we could and eventually got here. Then came the process of looking for the cache. Etherlord made the find, in the location I had just looked. I'm embarrassed to say this happens far too often to me.
No issues with the cache at all, and happy to notice that it's one of my favourite types of cache, one that hasn't been found for over 1000 days (1098 to be precise)
Thank you for encouraging me to visit.

No Billy Goats here, and unfortunately could not find this cache here either while walking the circuit. Hope to replace before too long.
Steep but beautiful climb (didn't tell my mum how steep it would be before we left), found the cache fairly quickly
Out for a walk today with my sister who wants to get into more tramping.I suggested this walk would be a good start!A quick find and a good cache.TFTC!
This is the third time I've walked the Coppermine Track; the first time to The Forks, & the second time up the Wharite Track towards the summit. Like other cachers, I missed the turn-off & finished up at the Coppermine, where the sign pointed me back to the loop. Very very steep climb from the creek up to this cache, but enjoyable. A quick find at GZ, cache was in good order, had not been found/signed for over a year. I had some lunch, then an easy kilometre walk to the next cache. Thanks edvern for the cache, & for the day out in the hills.
Sorry for the late log and the copy and paste, headed down to do some caching (while hubby played paintball) knowing the weather was going to be lovely, it was lovely it was really hot, we managed to get a few before heading home again, the sunburn wasn't over the top only forgetting not to put it on late arvo. Thanks for taking the time to place the cache.
Very buzzy finding caches after a bit of a hike, particularly ones that few others have found. Made an awesome day out with the partner just that bit better. Was tempted to put a trackable here but as we were the first to find this year and only the third on the log thought better of it. Tftc.
WOW that was some big up hill climbing, and here I had thought we were in for a nice walk like the first part... sssssssooooo wrong, LOVED every moment even when my legs were burning already from the rafting on the sat, we started the day at 12.45pm and finished up at 5.45pm
well worth the climb, now I know why no billy goats added paracord keychain took pet rock.
thanks for the placement.

I was in the area for a pre-dawn raid to find some delicious bambi. Whilst I didn't get any dinner I did find a couple of caches which is a good consolation prize I suppose. As it was dark when I set off, I too missed the turn off to the top and headed towards the mine instead. Once back on the main track it was a hard slog to the top (my calves are still hurting two days later). Found the cache fairly quickly and without my GPS too! Cache is still in good condition. Thanks for the cache and the smiley.
Thought it was about time someone had a go at these new caches before the weather turns nasty again.
We started off on the track about 11am, trotting along at a nice pace but maybe we were going too fast to be able to read the instructions properly or spot the correct turnoff (just kidding - we're really slow, & obviously half blind ), but we ended up going past the correct sign & crossing the steam further along, heading up to the "mine". We soon ran out of "well marked track" & after a while of trying to figure where we went wrong we decided to turn around & head back to the car. About half way back, we spotted the correct turn - Doh!!!!!
Ok, back on track, another stream crossing & up, up, up until our destination was spotted.
It was a nice reward to find the log book still blank ( anyone could have been & gone in the time we'd been mucking around, ha ha)
Left a pet rock - a rabbit. Thanks edvern for encouraging back to this awesome track & for the {FTF}, (& apologies for making it seem more difficult than it is
