This cache was missing when we did the series in 2018, and we wonder if the replacement has suffered the same fate, as we again failed to find anything today, either in the tree or on the ground.
Out caching with ritaryanandjj after an extremely long break from geocaching. Easing back into it with nice easy finds. Was excited about finding this one due to the FPs but we couldn't find this sneaky hide.
This is day nine of a ten day trip down to Dunedin and back to move my daughter there so she can get her master’s degree at Otago University. I spent the morning around Himatangi doing a series of caches, and then headed up to Turangi. I was going to stay a second night, but the weather was closing in.
I saw this series on my way back from the WENZ 2018 Mega last year and thought I have to do these one day.
After spending the night at the holiday park at Himatangi, the rain had stopped long enough for me to continue where I left off the evening before. TFTC.

Out on a bit of a random road trip for a couple of weeks.
Taumaranui, Whakatane, Foxton Beach
Out today with our latest bit of Geocaching kit - e-bikes.
First block completed, 30 odd caches later, feeling good so we decided to do a second block to see if we could reach 50 for the day.
Good easy finds as a power trail should be. Adding the hint to the cache name is a nice touch.
We like the animals attached to the otherwise boring containers.

Today was a numbers run for us. Lots of caches to choose from in this area so we did all but 2 of the KAS series, the mint tin series and some railway ones. 98 caches found in total and 2 DNF's something tells me we are going to have to go out again to find 2 more today. Many thanks to all the CO's of the caches we visited today, hugely appreciated and certainly love the quiet roads after Auckland.
One of 65 caches located in this neck of the woods today, a personal best which is never likely to be repeated! Biked along these roads from mid-morning to late afternoon, making a real day of it. Thanks to the cache owners for putting all these hides in place.
Found in the second tree I looked in. #2003. TFTC.

• mr and mrs are on a post 2018 WENZ Mega road trip, before going home
Today we’re in Manawatu and Horowhenua area, with some time dedicated to the KAS Series
Found caches have typically been signed MM78, although a few have been stamped mrandmrschosen1978.
Apologies for generic logs but with so many... condition of caches varied with good dry logs to wet/damp logs, we added some rite’n’rain slips to some as required
Thanks for this series, we appreciate the time and effort made in creating this series •

Up for the Mega for the week, headed up the coast for a couple of days on family stuff, but did get few caches in for the day. many thanks to the cache placer's - Bitsprayer
It’s Day 1 of our 2018 WENZ MEGA crusade and Team BOP are well represented by McJandals, NZFlossy, TNXPro, Davidson Clan, FapAndGap & Squirrel nutcase and myself.
We have a huge hit list for this 5 day affair so it's gonna be a little manic. We’ve signed our logs either individually or as ‘Team BOP’ depending on log space, size or condition. A special thanks to all the CO’s and those who have helped keep these caches in good order.
Cache found quickly thanks to accurate co-ords and a straight forward placement. A neat series and theme but most of the log sheets need replacing and are good examples of my we should be using waterproof paper. TFTC.

Driving up to Auckland today gave me the opportunity to pick up a few caches along the way. I had wanted to come back and have another go for this one ever since I initially did the KAS trail back in March, so I was glad to see that a replacement container had been thrown down by another cacher to keep this one going (thank you).
Once at GZ, it was a super quick find, sign, and replace before jumping back into the car and continuing on my journey north.

My family is staying in this area for a few days this week. We thought it would be nice to have a break away from Wellington, but the weather has somewhat dampened things... so to speak.
I came out to have a look for this one not so long ago. With no luck. Since then someone has left a throw down, literally, out in the open on the ground at GZ. However I wanted a quick and easy cache for today so I stopped to log a visit anyway!
It was a bit wet while I was here so I took it back to the car to complete the formalities.
The cache is in good condition. All nice and dry.
Thank you

2 DNF and myself, have emailed the CO, but no reply, so to keep the trail going, I have replaced this cache
My family and I were on a weekend trip to Taupo. A team from Hutt Valley Harriers was running in the North Island Cross Country Championships at Spa Park, Taupo, on Saturday afternoon. It has been organised for a while so I had plenty of time to figure out when and where I would be able to do a bit of geocaching.
Unfortunately we were quite a bit later getting away from Wellington on Friday than I had planned so I didn't get the chance to stop on the way up. I went out after dinner to find one on the Lake front near 2 Mile Bay. Saturday was devoted to the running and stuff so once again it was quite late in the day before I could get out to find a cache.
Anyway, my plan was to stop and get a few of these KAS trail caches on the way home to help boost up my numbers for the Heavenly Creatures thing that is on at the moment. I had my kids all geared up to help me and we had about 45 minutes spare to find as many as we could. My wife found something interesting to read on her device... so it was all set...
However, we couldn't find this one. It was only after a few minutes of searching that I checked the recent logs and realised that our efforts might have been in vain. We'll stop by here for another look next time we're passing!
Thank you

For the second time on the KAS animal trail a DNF. This is a tad annoying as I’ve found 49 geocaches today. One more and I will have earned the penultimate Dragon Hidden Creatures souvenir. But it’s not to be for a few more caches.
It seems like the bird has flown from this tree. No sign of it today. Perhaps it found a better tree!
My son and I have been trying to get around to doing the KAS trail for quite some time now, ever since we finished getting through the nearby Chewy Mint trail.
The Planetary Pursuits event currently running, and an available free day with my son over the Easter weekend, seemed like the perfect excuse to finally hit it!
So I planned a route that also took into account some other nearby caches, such as this one, making a grand total of 84 caches to be attempted today, curious to know if we could absolutely blast our previous record (40) for the number of finds for a day. As it turned out, we had just 5 DNF's, so it was a tremendous result that propelled us almost all the way to Pluto in 1 day! I now have a very tired, but happy lad.
I apologise for the generic 'cut n paste' style of my log, but with 79 to do tonight I figured it was the only way.
Unfortunately, this was a DNF for us. We searched all around a few likely trees, even climbing up into them, but to no avail. It was early on in this series, and we were still getting a feel for what we were looking for, so no doubt we will come back and have another go for this one.
Having just had my first placement muggled a couple of weeks ago, I am very much in appreciation of all CO's who place and maintain caches for the rest of us to find. Thanks for all your efforts.

I had to be in Palmerston briefly this morning and with nothing else planned I decided to throw the treadly on the back of the car and spend a few hours biking round the power trail in 29 degree heat. It is ironic so many of these caches are named after bugs as I got eaten alive everytime I ventured into the long, dried grass to make a find. It's ok though, as the bites matched my hayfever welts nicely. Sorry for the generic logs, but TFTC.
A day trip up to the Manawatu to grab a few caches and to finally close out the KAS Power Trail. All remaining caches found.
The last of the trail - finally complete after four (or was it five) runs. Thanks for putting out this trail and allowing me to explore some of these out of the way country roads. TFTC+Fav for the series

This little birdie was still happy as purched in his hiding hole thanks great work
It feels like we should be heading for home but a long way to go yet! Thanks for the cache
Love it, FP here
Onto the next piece of business for the day, after completing the PMPT (popmac power trail). Apologies in advance for the cut and paste logs, I will add details where I remember, I managed the whole of remaining caches in this series, except 2 DNFs. One was definitely missing, the other may have been sheltering a little too well.
I see some of theses have lost their guardians and some others have hatched, into mint tins but the co-ordinates on all these caches were excellent, thanks for that.
A trip to the North Island for a course of a fortnight duration, and taking the car too, woo-hoo.
After setting off on the Bluebridge at dark o clock I arrived in Wellywood with a slight threat of rain. In my sights for the days entertainment were the oldest cache in NZ and another oldie out Otaki Forks road, lots of mint-tins in a power-trail, lots of wee beasties i another power trail, up to 3 Letterbox Hybrid caches to get up to 50 of that type and a few recently soled puzzles. A day of 58 finds had me arriving at my destination in the dark, but I don't get out much so should be excused!!

Quick find this afternoon with eltee291. Signed the log and replaced as found! Visiting from BC, Canada. Drove from New Plymouth to Palmerston North today so we stopped and got some of this series en route. Thanks for the cache!
Quick find today with hingis20. We are on vacation from Victoria, BC, Canada and today we are traveling from New Plymouth to overnight in Palmerston North. Geocaching and beautiful scenery - cant't get any better. TFTC
Here to complete the KAS series (well most of it anyway). Roads all good, not too much traffic. Thanks.
On the way back home now, driving and biking, to Palmerston North. Time to find a few little boxes.....
Thanks to the CO's for the hides. Cheers.

Today, along with D6NZ, we were attempting to get ruby in the "Daily cacher" feat by logging 120 caches in a single day.
There were a number of trails in the area that we had already eaten into, so while we could hit pockets we lost precious time travelling as we ventured to each new hot spot. Today we planned on west of Bulls, north of Ohakea, skirting Halcombe and Fielding, then topping it off south of Himitangi.
Rocking along until we hit this KAS series then things slowed down somewhat with the need for both of us to sign the logs independently and many of the logs being damp.
We now have our targeted 120 caches but we are finishing the KAS run.
Find number one hundred and twenty three for today.

Planned a days caching around a goal of logging 120 caches today to obtain a ruby feat. Unfortunately some of the runs available I had already eaten into during normal
caching days which meant I had to target a few trails with 50 or more minutes travelling time between them, chewing up precious daylight hours.
Left home at 6:30 got back well after 9pm. it was a long day.
I targeted three areas, Bulls, Feilding, and Himitangi.

In the Manawatu for the weekend with some caching buddies- Uncle Sam, NZTravellers, Stik-a-crane. The goal was to find as many of the local caches that we could in the space of a day. We managed to find 206, I think, in the space of 14 hours, with a few bathroom/ coffee breaks and a couple of meal breaks. We all had a blast jumping in and out of the car, racing each other to the caches, and laughing and joking along the way, and in general had an awesome weekend down here.
We really enjoyed this trail, and I particularly thought the guardians of the cache containers were pretty cool!
I liked this particular hide, too..... it was cute!

A group of us descended on this area for the weekend to gather a big number day, and with a few trails in the area it was decided this would be the area to give us the best shot.... 200 was our goal and we had been making good progress...liked the cache guardians on this series...

Our team from Auckland wanted to do a major day of caching, so headed down to Foxton area for a massive day. We got about 205.
Very sorry for the generic logs, but when doing so many in one day very hard to make notes on each.
But a big thank you to all the cache owners for putting out all of the great caches we visited.

A group of like minded cachers from Auckland hatched a plan to spend the weekend in the Manawatu collecting caches. We had a blast racing around the country side collecting this KAS series. Thanks for setting up this series was lots of fun. TFTC!
Not such a crash hot day to cache but decided to anyway. All caches in OK condition, some a little wet but no problems...thanks for setting these up...TFTC
Just followed the geotrail that lead us right here. Had a chuckle here at the bird in a tree in a tree. TFTC #9420
Heading towards the Mega. Thought it would be impolite not to grab a few on the way through. Thanks all for the hides.
Sanson Day2.
Today we headed out to finish the KAZ trail. This was liking a tiki tour of the area around the farming country side.
The long grass made some of the caching today quiet difficult. I liked how the title included a hint.
Thanks for placing this cache kasmemoro

I was in Palmy North on business and decided to stay an extra day and spend time driving the KAS trail Nicely put together with the added bonus that its all on a sealed road.. and with plenty of parking. Just great. The weather co-operated with sunny skies and a nice breeze. Thanks for the trail.
I traveled down to Palmerston North for a 3 day geocaching weekend to give my numbers a bit of a boost, as I head towards my next caching milestone. I decided to fly there and back and pick up a cheap rental car for the weekend. The weather was perfect and I had a great weekend down there.
Today I joined forces with yorkshirekiwi83 for a full day of caching before an event in the city tonight. We picked up a few caches around the city first, then drove down towards Opiki collecting caches down some of the side roads as we went, then headed across to do the KAS Power Trail, before going up to do the caches around Ohakea then headed back to Palmerston North.
At this point we worked our way through the KAS Power Trail Series - a series that YK83 started last year, but which came an abrupt end for her. Today we had no such problems and had an enjoyable time finding all of the caches on the trail - the vast majority were nice easy finds, we only had notable issues with 3 caches (which I will go into more detail about on the relevant cache logs.) Thanks for the obvious time that has been spent putting these neat containers together and for placing this trail!

Vistra and I headed down to Manawatu as the KAS trail has been bugging me in its incomplete form, as we both needed numbers for personal goals it seemed like a good opportunity. Thanks to the cache owners for all the caches and the variety, over 2 days I found over 200 caches, so thank you for placing and maintaining them.
Most were quick easy finds, although there were some very clever ones and some well thought out. TFTC

Coming from Palmy in the morning with StefTheVet we wanted to follow the Kaštrail again for a second time. Today we found 23 caches there, all easy to find and in best order. We liked very much all those little guardians, what a lovely idea! As we didn't have too much time we couldn't complete the series but would like to come back on another day. Thanks so much for this Kaštrail, for showing us the country roads and the landscape - and we had lots of fun! That's worth a favourite point which we put on to the cache we liked most of all today, the cabbaged lizard!
This one was the 14th for today, also a very cute one, quickly found and in good order- TFTC!

Since I was back in the region for a couple of weeks I decided a big day caching was on order. Calls were made and plans were put in place and Jesso22, Stardust 718 and I set off in my new 4WD to collect a heap of caches. The first cache was collect at 7am and last one just before 7pm. The final numbers came to just of 150 so a productive day was had.
Found as Team AJS to save space on the very full logs

For months we had been planning a 100+ day but the timing had just never worked out for us. Now with Christmas and all of our summer activities behind us and AtomsNZ back in town it was the perfect time! AtomsNZ arrived at my house at 6.45am with Stardust718 in tow and off we went on our mission. The day was quite successful, started with a few solved puzzles then on to the KAS trail and the mint tin trails before squeezing in as many caches around Foxton, Levin and Shannon that all three of us hadn't previously found. Final total was just over 150 (just to be on the safe side in case we made a counting error). Most caches signed as AJS (or JAS depending on who signed it) to save room in the logs as some were quite full. Thanks to all of the COs it was a great day with many great finds.
# 971: I joined forces with AtomsNZ and Jesso22 for a 14 hour caching day. Found at 10:11:00 a.m. The main goal was the KAS trail and however many more nearby caches we could find. Our total came out at just over 150 for the day so we were all pretty happy with that. Thanks to the many CO's that made this day possible. We had a great time travelling lots of back roads.
Loved the various bugs on the containers. I'm not usually one to like creepy crawlies but thesse were cool and made for a more interesting power trail.
Logged signed as AJS (our team name for the day) as many log sheets were very small/or nearly full. we added new log sheets were possible.
Nice bird and tree attached to this cache. Enjoying this series.

#1720 As i was picked up just after 4am to head to the Manawatu I realised this was not going to be a dot day. This was an attempt to get 270 caches in one day. There are a couple of great circuits in the Manawatu that will help work toward this goal so thanks to the CO's that have placed them for our enjoyment.
Thanks also to my partner in geo crime and driver for the day Yetrees. Without an able driver an attempt such as this would be impracticable so thanks for enabling it.
Thanks to all the CO's for their contribution to my smilie tally.
It is forecast to be a long day geocaching, hoping to make the 270 target. To be honest I'd be pretty happy with 200, however why not go for the Emerald badge (see project-gc.com)

#1792. The only birds in this rural desert are magpies, so watch your head if you visit during the spring... Well I have been planning on having a trip to the Manawatu for some time to pick up the powertrails. With the run of great weather we have been having I booked a motel for two nights at Foxton and planned for Friday 12 February to be my "Manawatu Big Day Out". I had prepared an Excel sheet with 170 caches listed on it in a logical driving order going from Foxton through the various trails and over to Palmie and SE to Shannon and back across to Foxton. My first goal was to get enough finds to crack the 142 in 24 hr challenge, then get over the 150 barrier, and all going well see if I could exceed my current largest day of 57 caches by an extra 100 caches. Well the day dawned fine and I was on the road and at my first cache by 6.40am. I unlocked the motel door at 11pm with 158 caches under my belt. Not bad for a solo performance driving a car and trying to keep half an eye on the GPS and other half on the road. Got muggled by farmers twice and pulled over by the police twice (that's another story - read the relevant logs). The KAS power trail took 6 hrs and 20 mins to find 103 caches and DNF on 6 of them. That averages out at 3 and half minutes per successful cache. I had 120 finds by 3.40pm and the last 38 took 6 hours and 20 minutes as I headed into more dispersed and trickier to find caches. The power trails are a bit of an endurance test, especially in the heat of a summers day. Not helped by NZ cricket team losing wickets faster than I could find caches. Take plenty of water and food with you. I stopped just once for an ice cream and a pie on outskirts of Palmie. Some caches were memorable. Others just made up the numbers. Thanks so much to the CO's who put them out for me to find. Cheers GSEL
My second visit to this power trail. It was a very pleasant day to complete the task. Together with Nomadic Snow and team geocacher Mr. T as driver, we managed to complete what we set out to do. All logs were dated and signed NS & FD. Thanks for keeping this trail going.
Every since this power trail came out, a plan was hatched to use it as part of an epic caching day, going for record numbers. Originally it was a 150 cache day, but as the trail grew, & many smaller trails & caches started to pop up in the Hawkes Bay, the target soon began to look like an achievable 200. Finally we decided today was the day to have a crack at that target.
All in all this was a pretty well set up, fast & straight forward trail. Our only concern would be that the odd cache was a little too close to people's houses which was clearly attracting attention from the locals. We were pursued down the road by one local, & sworn at by another. Probably our fault for doing part of this trail in the dark. We would definitely recommend doing it in daylight hours.
Thanks for setting this up Kasmemoro

Cache # 2,920 - part of a massive 13-hour day, doing a blitz around Palmerston North wider area with team WITT (Wandering Dragons, Infoferret, Taybee and TaybeeNZ), ultimately resulting in 160 caches for me. The KAS trail was the heart of this effort, and it took us 4.75 hours to go around it. Because of the sun and the heat, we had to break halfway through and stop by a nearby township for some ice creams and cold drinks. Fantastic effort to set all of this up, and a great power trail. TNLNSL. TFTC!
NICE TO FIND A FEATHERED FRIEND!
Due to rough weather and outrageous airline prices, we had not been able to get across to the South Island for our planned Marlborough Sounds adventure. So what better thing to do while wending our way back north than a spot of caching. This afternoon turned into an epic day of caching on this trail, with our last puzzle cache 'pick up' coinciding with the last ray of sun setting in the west. It was beautiful end to the day but well and truly past time to get to Hamilton for a rest stop en route to Ruakaka and Waipoua later in the week.
We did not miss getting a smiley face on any of the caches this series and were particularly impressed with the way the caches were in good order, clearly well maintained. Loved the palm trees and animals associated with each cache and helping with the name.
Apologies for the copy and paste, but with 114 caches found in this series plus 5 puzzle caches picked up, this has also been a marathon effort to log. TFTC to kasmemoro for the KAS series.

[green] Out with Etherlord to wipe out the KAS series in one day. Started at 6:45, and finished about 6 hours later. But in that time we also did the mint tin trail and the stopped off in Foxton for more fuel, doing a few railway caches along the way. We swapped driving/finding duties every corner. I fully expected this to be a nothing special trail, but the critters turned out to be a nice touch. Enjoyed seeing what was attached to each cache! Log signed as ECATS - Etherlord Clan and the Seagnoid.
What an epic day for me!
It started with attending a 6am flash mob event, which gave us a great early start to complete the KAS trail (114 caches), the Mint Tin trail (10 caches), and 10 other ManRail/random caches along the way, for a total of 135 finds before lunch.
In just 6 hours, I found more caches than all of 2015 (123), all of 2014 (132), one more than my previous Best Month (134), and more than doubled my previous Best Day (55).
What a great start to 2016! [^]

I'm staying 4 nights at Paraparaumu and collecting caches here and there including this KAS power trail today near Palmerston. I don't intend to do the whole trail today, my good mate lives in Palmerston and we haven't caught up for awhile now so a visit will be in order.
Thanks for the series.
Thanks for the series.
In Germany I saw this good looking Power Trail and really wanted to do it. So on our way back from Wellington it was a good chance to stop here. We started at 10:30 a.m. and it took us 5 hours to find all but four. These were missing or it took to long to search. It was big fun, at first the weather was perfect almost too hot and later a bit rain but no problem for us. At first I thought there are no hints but then I saw the names of the caches, very funny! Most caches were in good condition and I really liked the bugs and other things covering the containers, really nice. Thank you for placing this nice trail! Best wishes from Germany!

I decided to go out on a big day of crazy caching and see how many I can find singlehandedly! I packed some food, plenty of water, gps, spare pens. I had a quick look in the morning and decided on a general direction with plenty of caches and some cool challenges on the way. The weather was great, even too warm at times, with considerable wind. I started after sunrise and went on until sunset, by which time I was rather exhausted - but happy... I kind of ended up somewhere where I was not quite planning to end up, but no problem! I found 124 caches in total - my biggest day going on a lone caching mission. Thank you to all the awesome CO's for placing the caches!!!
10.37am. Took just over 7 hours 30 minutes to go right round. Found all but four. Great trail.
Thank you. David

Another successful day geocaching doing the KAS geotrail with JonoS.
These trails have a lot going for them. Straightforward caches with accurate coordinates and easy finds. The ditches are dry and mostly the terrain doesn't involve clambering. The spring growth has resulted in long grass , sometimes at nearly shoulder height.
Some of the logs are damp and full or nearly full. We replaced some but maybe the CO could suggest that people carry spare logs as there are so many caches to service. We had a great day.

A great day out with MJMNZ "knocking off" a few more of the KAS caches in and around Horowhenua district.
Thanks to CO for providing the caches which have accurate Co-ords and are easy to find despite the summer growth of grass.

Spent a pleasant Friday afternoon collecting caches on the KAS Power Trail. No problems with finds -coordinates all accurate, most caches in good order. Did a double-take here -realised some of the vegetation wasn't real...
