This weekend we're back in the High Country recreating our first ever 4WD trip in remote country. As a young bloke I spent a lot of time in the High Country exploring the many 4WD tracks. In the early 1990's, as a member of Goulburn Valley 4WD Club I was involved in the first rebuild of Craig's Hut. The open was celebrated by a formal dinner in a marquee on the grass at the hut with dignitaries flown in from Melbourne by heli; a surreal experience.Like many of us, life gets in the way, so it's been more than 30 years since I've been up in this area. The plan for the day is to visit Craig's then the summit of Stirling before returning home via Bindaree Hut. There's method in our madness... with the winter closure ending just a couple of weeks ago and hundreds of 4WDers and campers eager to get back into the bush we've come up here before the weekend in the hope that we'd avoid the stampede. It's seems our plan has paid off with nobody at TBJ and no trafic on the roadThank you, skullracing, for this cache.#4338. Log signed at 1101Hrs.(I often sign the log book as "W+W" to save paper/time/ink)
Cool place.I mean very cool place Thanks for placing this cache here and being part of our adventures today.
We were staying at Picnic Point campground with our caravan club and one of the members, who lives locally, organised a 4WD trip to Craigs Hut. The last cache for the day and the easiest. I had managed to interest a couple of other members of our convoy in our antics, so I had an audience when finding this cache. I now need then to sign up and keep me company.
Found It!A quick find here just before dark. Not sure if Mt Stirling counts as a separate LGA or not, but if it does I've now got a cache find in it!TFTC
I'm on my way home with my daughter and her husband. I had a great time there. There will be other times when we go there. Found it Thanks, skullracing for placing it.
Great cache. Enjoyed finding this one - because it also meant we were at the end of our weekend hike, back at our car. TFTC. Bubba & Sheri
Found on our return trip to Craig’s Hut. Beautiful location. Thanks for placing the geocache
My Scouting kids were doing a peak award hike and decided to do a couple of caches. My son thought it was an awesome cache. Tftc added a favourite. They stayed at Razorback Hut and came here then to GGS Hut for another night before walking to Craig's Hut. Impressive
A quick find out 4wdriving with Skullracing. It's just a bit chilly today so I'm glad I bought my jacket. Great to see a decent sized cache.

What an awesome weekend .
dalerious and I had the best time on Mt Stirling. We got to visit some awesome caches, and I got to put my Hilux and myself through the paces.
We also camped on the mountain which I have never done before. Awesome!
This cache was picked up on the way home, as when we got there on the Saturday, the place was packed.
Thank you skullracing for an awesome weekend.
Can't wait to visit wp4 of your b#st$rd multi .

Apparently this spot has been closed for some time now. Always wondered what was here. A telephone box? Now I know. A cache, that's one thing. A quick grab heading up the hill.
Todays planned day trip for Craig's Hut to make our #2000th find was finally here! Super early start this morning lead to an awesome day exploring both Mt Buller and Mt Stirling some tracks certainly tested the old rig out, but we made it home in once piece. Today brought back lots of fond memories of visiting this area with my Grandad many years ago.
Had to backtrack as Corn Hill road was closed on Mt Buller, not to worry. This old sign is starting to feel a bit rickety. Cache found in good order

Just passing through with the kids. Counts towards my word I will find all of Lexis caches
Quick find on our way out from Craig’s Hut and getting to see the first snow of the seasons! TFTC.
Enroute to the High Country this side of the ranges far from home base with some time to spare before gaining altitude. Bluff and Howitt here we come via Helicopter Spur. Its been some decades so I'm palpably excited to get that pack on my back for 5 days with good weather forcast. Hopefully I get to ski these trails this winter and get back here in this fab place. TFTC and the FUN!
A drive to see Craig's Hut. Stopped to check this one out, a quick find, stamped log and replaced. Thanks to skullracing.
TFTC,
Camping at Sheepyard Flat with friends for a few nights.
Heading up to Craigs Hut.
Left a trackable and visited others.

Would be hard to be stealthy here when it busy, but circuit rd isnt open yet so got the place to myself hiking, thanks
TFTC, great day out in the high country, visited Craig's hut & did some river crossings too
A quick find on the way back down the mountain after visiting Craigs Hut. Lots of photos were taken today and the garbage bird was one of my favourites. TFTC
Got to introduce some friends to Geocaching in a beautiful location. Thanks for the find
Escaping the heat for the weekend, we headed into some higher altitudes.
We camped at buttercup campground for two nights, which was very busy night 1, but with my little Jimny and our two small tents, we found a spot that we fit.
After caching our way around Buller and village, we headed over to circuit road on our way to Mt Stirling.
First of the day, after a very corrugated drive up.

Ilukaperi and I had decided to escape the heat for the weekend and so we headed higher up in altitude. Towards Mt Buller/Stirling. We took her Jimny with its fancy new AT tires. Camping at Buttercup campground, we used that as a great base for exploring the area.
After a late night, we enjoyed a small sleep in before getting up. I drove into Mansfield to restock the petrol in the Jimny, re stock the eski with ice (and of course beer) and to grab a coffee that while wasn’t camping instant coffee, was none the less not as good as home. Arriving back, Ilukaperi had everything organised (she’s good at that), including pancakes for breakfast! Once done, we pointed the Jimny to the circuit Rd, Craig’s Hut and Mt Stirling.
This was the first cache for the day. I’ve never actually been on this road (even in my previous caching days), so it was all brand new for me. Ilukaperi found this one, in a pretty obvious spot. Signed the cache and we continued on.

We had found this cache many years ago, when visiting one winter, but didn't log the find. Today, we were back in the area and checked the log book, and found that our name was definitely the, so are logging the find. Thanks for placing a cache in an area we love to visit.
Found! Had to pull a sneaky around the muggles but we got it. Nabbed the the TB and will be taking it to the next mountain top we climb
We were off out of metro Melbourne and free at last to travel a bit. We decided to hike up to Mount No 3 and stopped by this cache.
We dropped a Geocoin looking for more mountains, perhaps some can get it to Mt Standley
Thanks

Finished the days outing with this cache, nice way to finish our walk with a quick find with no one one around. Off home we go. Tftc
After finishing my hike to Craig's Hut, I had time to find one more cache here before heading on my way. I had a pretty good idea where this might be hiding, and luckily I spied it in a likely place. Cache in good condition. TFTC skullracing!
Today's adventure is to Mt Stirling and Craig's Hut, coming from Bright, and completing the Circuit Road circuit. It is very very very cold, misty and rather dark despite being mid-morning already. We piled out of the car to take a look around - the idea of a hot chocolate in the cafe dashed by it being closed. And although we spent five minutes rugging up - I was somewhat annoyed not only to be muggled immediately - but by muggles in shorts? It's like one degree man, go away!
Well, he did wonder off, and after the disappointment of no cafe, the lure of a rather decent sized cache for this scenario made up for it. A lovely find, TB dropped, and back into the warmer car we went.
Thanks skullracing for entertaining me at this location.

Great hide skullracing, thank you. Mainly logging trucks on the road today. Another LGA crossed off the list.
Setting out on a trip through old stamping grounds, we found this cache at 10:05am and SL. So impressed by all the trees.
Around 45 years ago we came here one of us a forest scientist or "forester", Mt Stirling was being logged in compartments and that one of us took part in the reseeding surveys. Four times they went out to check the germination, by counting seeds and seedlings in each coupe to make sure it was successful.
The Woolly Butt seed was sown by aircraft in autumn.
Each seed dispersal survey they placed hoops on the ground in a grid and knelt and individually counted:
1.During seeding, the treated seed granuals.
2.In Spring, the seeds that had germinated.
3.In March, the seedlings that survived the summer.
4.12 or 18 months later, the seedlings that were established.
The trees here are the results around 45 years later and are beautiful to see!
Forest scientists loved and cared for the bush before the Greens invented themselves. TFTC skullracer

We were at Mt Buller for the Mt Buller sky run supporting a friend running in the 45 km race and did some caching as time and locations allowed. Found this one on our way back from Craigs hut for our first checkpoint for the day.

After the big turn out at my event this morning in Mansfield I made I went to recon the course for Sunday, a stop to make so finds Caches are all good.
A huge weekend away, with over 2000km being driven over 3 days from Adelaide to Mansfield via swan hill and Echuca, then return via Bendigo and St Arnaud. The target was to collect 11 new local government areas and mostly stop and do some multis.
But the main goal was tour of Mansfield, a cycling tour consisting of 3 stages over 2 days (Saturday and Sunday).
Stage 1: 14km Individual time time trail.
Stage 2: 76km road race finishing up old Tolmie
Stage 3: 46km road race finishing up the top of mt bulla.
Wednesday I left Adelaide for Victoria via pinnaroo, I decided I would stop when I had enough of driving. I camped in the back of a cemetery yes a cemetery, nice and peaceful in Nyah. Thursday I made my way from Nyan to Mansfield via Swan Hill, Echuca and Shepparton with 2 trips over the boarder. A lot of DNFs on caches as some were barrow red off due to road works and others I must if stuffed up. I ended up camping the night in Mansfield. Friday I held my event in Mansfield with a big show of 1 (just myself)!!! And went for a drive up mt bulla. Saturday was mainly racing and Sunday after the race I made my way back to Adelaide via Victorias oldest cache and some new roads through the middle of victoria that I had never been on before.. With arrival on Monday at 1am back home. A big trip out and a great weekend away with a little under 100 finds.
Thanks for the cache placements by all the cache owners.

Parked amongst 10 odd cars and 4WDs, sauntered over to the sign while some yokels walked back and forth. Found the cache without attracting attention.
While in the general area, why not take a drive into the High Country. No bitumen on Mt Stirling Road EXCEPT at Telephone Box Junction! Found the cache easily. SL at 2.10pm Took: train Left: glow eagle PT and some swaps. #5912 TFTC skullracing - haven’t been up this way for a few years. Pretty quiet now school holidays are finished.
#3519 After ditching the geohounds with Mr BGF's muggle parents, we escaped up into the hills for a couple of days for some adventure. Our first cache find was this one. Years ago and on a few occasions Mr BGF came up Stirling for some X country ski action. This is possibly our first visit in Summer. It was great to get out of the geocar and soak in the smells and serenity of the Aussie bush again. The cache was located without issue and without any muggle pressure. Thanks Skullracing, a beautiful spot anytime of year!
Found with locus cache at ludicrous o'clock as we wound our way up them thar hills to spend what was left of the night at Craig's Hut before putting in a full day on Curcuit Road.
Even at 2:55am the air was still warm but we were on a mission so didn't hang around to see if the web cam was on. [^]
The cache itself was clean and dry tucked away just as it was when locus cache had found it when she wast last here. [8)]

My original plan had been to drive over to the King Billy Tree area but this was thwarted by a Road Closed sign, probably due to a tree over the track. My backup plan was a visit to Craig's Hut, always a great location, and there was a new cache there now that wasn't there last time I was.
Along the way I realised that I hadn't logged this one.
Loved the placement of this cache. A nice size, just placed in a location where there was enough information nearby to divert the eye and make detection unlikely.
Deserves a fav point I reckon.

Lex, this cache was not what expected from you, but it was an easy spot and is in great condition.
It was a relatively warm Sunday up at Mt Stirling, with a bit of wet snow around for a spot of cross country skiing with my venturer scouts. The day started with a lesson from Estonian ski instructor Trinuu. She was very patient with us, as none of us had skied on skinny skis before. I took the prize for the most stacks for the day, but no injuries beyond a little bruising to my pride. It was a day of much fun and I will have to come back and do this again.
Feeling a little tired, we returned our hired skis and headed for the cars. As I wandered past the entry sign I noted to my assistant that there was a cache somewhere near there. Why not I thought, so turned on my phone and guess what. It was 21.3 metres away. Pretty quickly I guessef where the cache would be and boom, right where I thought. TNLN but my moniker.
Thanks Lex, now you have to come and find some of mine when you stay in Sunbury.

This cache has had me wondering what was on this side of the river as a camry is somewhat limiting at times, but the road to here and all along the circuit road was in fact quite driveable for any 2WD. This really didn't matter thou as this weekend scored a lift up to Buller event with ahomburg in the mighty Xtrail. The Xtrail did it easy and another reminder that I really need to pull my finger out and get a "real" car.
A nice quick find this morning and first for today.

This was our first stop, and cache find, today while on a day trip to the area for a bit of sightseeing and 4wd'ing. My Pooky mate was dead keen to find this before the rest of us so to placate the little fella we let him scamper off and clamber over the GZ to locate the cache in the forlorn hope of calming his hyperactivity - which it did for a short time. (Next time I gonna tap him on the head with a rock to settle him down!)

Somehow I ended up getting to spend a couple of days in a gorgeous part of Victoria
Dandongadale area will now be known to me as a place of high mountains , amazing views , a massive full moon and of not quite making it to a cache
So it was 7 caches found and 1 event attended and I am NOT talking about the cache that I did not make it to! [xx(]

Bah, who wants to get to the cache the easy way? I think the scenic route was much better [:p] We were nearing the end of this weekend adventure of lake camping, campfires, and caching (with an honorable mention to freezing and cold for putting in an appearance) and just happened to pause here as we passed by, to enable me to collect my first skullracing cache [:0] After all this time ... Thanks for the cache
For it was to be a most excellent adventure getting to this cache. Armed with a truckasaurus and enough food for a week I ventured off with friends into the mountains. After two nights camping in the cold and descending and climbing a few mountains, not to mentions a half dozen water crossings we finally reached the cache. To our surprise there is a considerably easier way to get here. I guess next time we will check the map. Nice size cache in a good hide.

Arrived in Merrijig for the weekend, and decided to drive to Craig's Hut. Only problem was that we arrived at Telephone Box Junction to find the road up from there is closed until cup weekend in November. However the trip was saved by finding a cache. A ranger came down the road and took our photo by the road closed sign. Found the cache without the ranger's help, but he did have a good laugh when the prize was claimed. TFTC
Quick find on the way over the top for an overnight camping trip before the roads close. Thanks for the cache.
