Logs
Tunnel Beach track closed temporarily because of slips from the recent heavy rain.
All good - cache exactly where it should be.Note: this cache is hidden in the mown grass area. You stay within the safety fence. (The sign mentioned in some logs does not apply to the grassy area - it is to stop people stepping over the safety fence onto the peninsula which DoC is trying to revegetate.)
I located a few caches today near Dunedin and on the Otago Peninsula. Unfortunately this wasnt one of them. I spent quite a while looking for it. I wasnt able to find the seat mentioned in the description (presumably its no longer there) or the cache itself. I couldnt work out where the seat might have been. The coords did seem to lead to a spot off the track which is where a sign requests people not to go. See the attached photo. I confess to disobeying that instruction in my quest to find the cache. Sadly it was all in vain. And I couldnt spot a rock which looked bigger than the others. None of the ones under which I looked revealed the cache. Disappointing to record this one as a DNF, but thats how it ended up on the day!
Today we leave from Larnach Castle towards Te Anau and pick up a number of caches along the way. Tftc
It was a rainy and windy day, but we still enjoyed Tunnel Beach. The view on the walk down were great and the tunnel was fun too. We loved hopping the boulders at the beach level. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache.
We have traveled with 36 likeminded geocachers to Australia and New Zealand resulting in lots of opportunities for sightseeing and geocaching. The logbooks were mostly signed under the teamname "Team DownUnder24" and answers were sent to owners for the group, as appropriate. This has been a great trip with a multifold of new impressions and experiences. This cache was today among our finds. Thanks for leading us here and thanks for the cache.
We arrived in New Zealand. And we are sooooo happy about it. We (Team Downunder24) discovered the island by looking for some caches. We could see many nice places, landscapes, sheeps and beautiful buildings. We enjoyed our stay very much. Amazing. "Tunnel Beach (Dunedin, Otago)" was one of the caches we could find during our bus tour from the north to the south. Thanks daywalk for showing that place
Danke fr diesen Geocache. Danke fr die Ausarbeitung. Danke frs Zeigen.Lieber Gru aus Duisburg / DeutschlandAndyDieser Logeintrag wird mit Hilfe von Google bersetzt.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________We set off on a long journey with 37 geocachers from Germany, Denmark, Luxembourg and Switzerland. Three weeks to Australia and New Zealand, starting with a stopover in Doha, Qatar. I have never been so long and so far away from home. An exciting time. When geocaching, the focus was on many different cache types, but also special ratings, challenges and especially a few very old caches from the years 2000 and 2001. But also, of course, especially the geocaches that were easily accessible on foot from the hotel.Of course, the focus wasn't just on geocaching; the sights of the individual stations we visited also deserved attention. We entered our team name Downunder 2024 in the logbooks, saving logbook space and efficiently. It was a very special trip in a large team, which was also a lot of fun.Today we had until late afternoon to go geocaching in Dunedin. We then took the bus to Cromewell.Today we took the bus from Christchurch via Oamaru and Moeraki to Dunedin. Thanks for this geocache. Thanks for the elaboration. Together with 36 other geocachers, the KiSt team undertook a very long trip to Australia ???? and New Zealand ???? for three weeks. On both the outward and return journeys, there was a stopover in Doha, the capital of Qatar ????.We experienced a great deal on this trip and gained many very different impressions of the two countries, their nature and their culture. Of course, the main focus was on visiting as many caches of as many different types as possible and also all accessible old cans. However, we also made sure to visit many special places of interest and to gain as comprehensive an impression as possible of nature and its flora and fauna. To save the logbooks, we usually signed in with our team name **Downunder24**. For "special" cans, however, we have not missed the opportunity to leave our nickname as well. This beautiful cache is now also one of our finds.Due to the large number of caches visited, it is unfortunately not possible for us to write an individual log for each can, which is why we would like to apologize to the owners for this collective log.We also met other cachers at some of the events and were able to share our experiences. Many thanks to the event owners!Of course we would like to thank all the owners for showing us the great locations, the sometimes tricky puzzles, exciting multis and wherigos, as well as the interesting virtuals and earth caches - TFTC!!!---In der Besetzung KiSt unternahmen wir zusammen mit 36 weiteren Geocachern fr drei Wochen eine sehr weite Reise nach Australien ???? und Neuseeland ????.

It was a quick enough find, but we cant see a bench anywhere is in the area. We left a moose travel bug as theres plenty of grass for it to feed on Hope it enjoys this beautiful location. TFTC
Wow, nice location. I kept looking for a bench. Wrong. Followed compass & found it quickly. Nice place to sit & prepare for the hike up. Thnx

That took a lot of hunting. My gps wouldnt settle down and the recent improvements have made most of the hide info obsolete, so I resorted to searching under every rock in turn. Eventually found it with my GPS showing 4m, well within the acceptable range.Bits of the cache description that should be ignored:Seat10 o'clockHalfway downBiggestBehindGrass camo Bits that are still relevant :Grassy slopeEastRockGapGreat fun, thanks for maintaining the cache.
This was a bit of a challenge. There were a lot of people about making it more difficult to search. What a truly amazing place!!!Travelling around the South Island on my bucket list having adventures before I can't. Lifestylea is my driver and safety officer for the journey. I have mobility problems, but there was no way I was going to miss this.
The sign Tipsy Tui photographed has been there for a while. Cache is in a well-grassed area, where access doesn't cause damage. It's not in any of the bare areas where DoC hope to revegetate.
Got to about 10m of GZ but as per my needs maintenance log we couldn't get to GZ without leaving path and trampling the rare native plants. Great spot though, hopefully the cache can be moved to a more accessible spot.
We loved our visit to Tunnel Beach today as well as the very informative cache page. Unfortunately I was unable to access GZ to hunt for this cache as it was pointing about 10m off the track and there is a DOC sign up asking people to keep to the tracks to protect the rare native plants in this area (see attached photo). I'm not sure how other cachers managed this one? The track looks very new though so perhaps the signs are too? I'd suggest cache needs to be moved so that it is accessible without leaving the track.
Had a great day today cycling from Tunnel Beach all the way up to Larnach Castle. Picked up many caches along the way.The area here has changed a lot but the cache is still perfectly in place. What a beautiful spot here, tftc!
Today's plans: Nugget Point and Tunnel Beach in our way back. That was such a great day, spectucalar Views and Wildlife. We got to see some seals, one highlight. Nugget Point... Another Highlight. And the final - Tunnel Beach - also a Highlight! The Cache was quite easy and in good shape. Quickly signed before heading uphill to the car. Great finish.TFTC and greetings from Germanyaussi96

Absolutely gorgeous place! And the sea lion was chilling at the beach.Greetings from Lithuania +fav point
I visited this geocache together with BK-Br. Not the cache itself, but leading us to this location and the listing are definitely worth a favourite point. Thank you for this geocache.
I'm visiting New Zealand for a tour around the country . I have already visited many places on the North Island and on the South Island. Now I'm staying in Dunedin for some days. While enjoying the sightseeing I also visit some caches. This is one of them. Thank you for showing me the place and thank you for the cache . Greetings from Switzerland .What a wonderful place to be. And a very clever hiding spot .
What a fabulous place, totally worth the walk back up that hill. Thanks for bringing us here. TFTC
We have been lucky enough to stay in Larnach Castle Lodge for a while and decided to head south towards Tunnel Beach as we had heard some good things about the area.
After a steepish walk down to this beautiful place (old knees I’m afraid) we enjoyed a little rest and found the nearby cache.
Many thanks for the hide and the very informative and comprehensive cache description daywalk…a favourite point on it’s way.

Great views and awesome spot. A bit of a trek down (and moreso coming up), but we’ll worth the walk. Went down the tunnels to the ‘beach’. One of the reasons we love caching is that it takes us to some amazing spots like this. A fav point from us. Thanks
What a beautiful spot for a cache. Enjoy the walk and views. And a great bit of exercise to get back to the car park. TFTC
Quick find after undertaking the nearby walk and before preparing ourselves for the climb back to the top.

The complete month march I am travelling on both Islands. Christchurch heading south, next the westcoast. AbelTasman-Wellington-Rotorua-Hahei and finally Auckland. This was one of the caches I found; thanks for showing me the area.
spent 6 great weeks in New Zealand with my ?? The start was a bit bumpy (Cyclone Gabrielle) but then it got better and better. We travelled to both islands and discovered a lot. We photographed and filmed many beautiful things, but most of it stayed in our hearts.Almost everywhere we stopped, a cache was already waiting for us. Most of the caches are well maintained and easy to find. With mostly very nice weather, we saw a lot of this impressive island. In many places, caches were waiting for us, which were sometimes easy and sometimes difficult to find. This cache was also included and was successfully signedWe puzzled a lot in advance and the tours ?? were well prepared So this box was also well found.now I have another on my personal cache card.many thanks to [^] **daywalk** [^] for the effort and the cache and greetings from Germany ???? We stopped at Tunnel beach to show my dad this special access to a not-so-private beach. Some people, careless or maybe just stupid, took young children on the cliff. With the strong gust, we were pretty scared to see a tragedy unfold.
Back from the beach we looked for the cache. The description is very accurate and we found the spot were the cache should be. But there was no container inside it. Both I and Mr8 explored the cavity. Maybe it has gone missing.

We are visiting Dunedin for a BMXing event but are of course squeezing in not only plenty of sight seeing but also a fair bit of geocaching too . We headed to Tunnel Beach this morning knowing it was low tide and excited to to explore. What an amazing place! Exploring the beautiful sandy beach, taking in the views, going through the tunnel - it was all fab. As for the geocache - we realised we didn't come that prepared - no pen, and little reception meant it might be a bit tricky. But fortunately Geodad had read the description before coming and remembered what had been said about the location - even better there was a pen inside! Thanks for placing this cache and making that walk to Tunnel Beach that little bit more exciting .
Came here on a warm day during low tide and climbed down to the beach. Thank you for gathering all the information in the listing, very interesting! The cache was a quick find.

spectacular view and a tricky hike. but worth it! thanks for the cache and the magnificent information around it!
My first visit to Tunnel Beach - love it. TFTC and the information on this area. Really enjoyed this place.
A post breakfast walk down to Tunnel Beach was just what we needed. Beautiful spot and enjoyed all the sights. Spent a lot of time down at the beach before using this cache as a rest stop on the way back up the hill. Thanks for the hide.
Great spot for a cache, and a great container too. The swell was really impressive today, and there were plenty of muggles about as well, meaning nonchalant stealth was required. I was initially convinced it was missing, as there's another pretty good but empty hole nearby. Thanks.
Quick find after waiting for a lot of muggles to leave the immediate area. Very busy here today. TFTC.
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit … we are now parked up in Mosgiel for a couple of days, exploring in & around the Dunedin area … this was one of the places that we had on our list of places to visit … found with no issues, log completed & Cache returned … pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally … TFTC ...
