We locked high we looked log we looked far we looked wide we read logs....easy to spot... hmmm...we read the hint...we looked again...we gave up
I had been wanting to extend my travels up the Barwon for a while now as the number of caches to find has grown, I decided that today was a great day to test my skills as a paddler.
This was the first one on the river and the paddle to here had been fairly easy, getting into GZ was a little trickier but not too bad, the cache was spotted quickly.
It was interesting to see what was left of the old log book, defiantly wouldn't be able to sign that one but the new one was.
From here it did get a bit trickier to get through and I was sure how far I was going to get.
**Thanks to Jacko83 for placing this cache.**
As the meters counted down the river appeared to be running out. We made the wrong choice of channel but a few steps across the sand bank and the hide was spotted. The old log bog was a soggy mess but the one in the plastic was ok. The wire holding the cache up broke but we managed to re attach. TFTC.
What a beautiful day for a paddle!
Vulpes Vulpes survived the rain however was extremely wet.
Log book replaced and signed and we were on our way to 'The Expedition'.
Spoke to the local farmer on our way back while his dog had a swim as we navigated back through the branches.
Couldn't think of a better want to relax and paddle along the river with something intresting at every turn, wildlife, scenery, varying river conditions and even the odd piece of timber deposited in the tree branches about 3 above the river after the floods.
The cache was still in place but the log was unusable, so a new log signed and replaced in the cache.
Thanks for the awesome adventure along the river Jacko83

A well earned favorite point from me.
The log was pulp however the cache was in good nick. Replaced with a new log which was signed by cachers who joined me for the paddle. Ready to go again.
A stunning morning with great mild weather, and the water was as quiet as could be.
I've been wanting to do this cache for quite a while, and while heading to The Expedition we had the opportunity to collect this cache as well.
No foxes to be seen this morning near GZ, but we sure saw the cache!
Thanks, Jacko83.
In the company of DAB, Tomstache, The_Tritonz and ThePacman we launched for a few hours on the Barwon. Tomstache and I were very grateful tagalongs. There is no way we would have made it completely up the river without the very supportive help of our three co-paddlers. The Barwon is so magical from this perspective.
The weather was not too bad until I was heading back to the car up the Barwon River when it started to rain lightly. Not too bad I thought but by then time I got to the D2B series the rain was coming down in torrential downpours and even though I got soaked through as I raced from the car to each cache, I wasn't deterred; luckily I had a few changes of clothing (from past experience) that I could change into and at least drive home nice and dry.
The paddle up and down this section of the Barwon River was definitely not what I expected. I was thinking a long straight flowing river, not this tranquil body of water that snaked around a plethora of bends and turns, dodging over hanging tress and branches, 'paddling', if that's what I could call it, through thick green vegetation growing over the water, even passed a number of floating sheep (a bit on the nose), but the tranquility and scenery is was got me, absolutely amazing. After almost 5 hours on the water I made it back to the car both exhausted and exhilarated at the same time. A big thanks to the CO's that placed the caches I found along the way too, with out you guys I may never had discovered this amazing place and had such a great time.
At GZ the cache was quickly spotted and I maneuvered so that I could reach the cache and sign the log whilst still on the yak. Thanks Jacko83.
We kept thinking we had reached the area of GZ but every time we checked the GPS no a bit further. Finally GZ was found and after a short search the cache was found. TFTC
Been eagerly waiting for a day to return to Geelong to tackle a number of the yakking caches.
Well today the conditions were perfect and best mate Ahomburg was super keen to hit the water too.
We ended up doing 16km in total on the Barwon river, with the overall trip starting at 10:25am & finishing at 3:40pm.
By this time the expedition was going well with the finish line fast approaching being the cache "The Expedition".
It had been a quite and peacful paddle upto this point and this cache was quickly found. On approach I went to the left which was wrong as the right side is right.

Out and about with my caching partner in crime SedgwickDave today on a bit of a T5 Raid in Geelong. The weather was looking just wonderful and it has been the first weekend I have really been able to get out since the mega. There was also a number of events today, so hoped to attend at least one or two.
We were getting quite tired by now and still had the paddle back to the car to complete. Not sure if the 4PM deadline for the Tritonz event was achievable. Anyway, we proceeded, on approach to GZ, dave went one way, I went the other. Guess who was the Victor.... Cache found in perfect condition.
Thanks to Jacko83 for the cache. TNLN

12th / 13th November 2016 - GC65688 - Anglesea - Great Ocean Road - Victoria
The river and weather were excellent...considering the bleak forecast...we were quite surprised. The cache was found , alas it is water logged, so I try as I did , I didn't sign it. So I took a photo. I hope that suffices.
A great paddle, and a favourite point for bringing us up the river.
Cheers Jacko
Imagine then, my puzzlement when I found the route that I had taken heading upriver an hour or two earlier - the same I have taken many times before - blocked by a number of branches, which I would swear weren't there before...this time I had no choice but to get out and drag around the small obstruction, noting the flattened area on the bank which had clearly been stomped upon....hmmmm....curiouser and curiouser...
So, with my questions unanswered and just as I re-boarded my vessel, I spotted what I was after and headed over. The log book was rather soggy, but was happy to accept my mark in pencil. Job done, it was back downriver to the weir (via a Tawny Frogmouth I spotted on the way up) to be met by the boys with a picnic afternoon tea.
Thanks Jacko83....as if I needed the excuse !!
Enjoyed paddling out to this one and spotted the cache no problems. Signing the log was difficult but manageable. The log book is very damp at the moment.
We enjoyed this peaceful paddle to this point watching the bird life and scenery. We saw plenty of that and plenty of the water variety too. No foxes today however.
Absolutely loved the red river gums holding on by their roots and reaching out across the water forming archways for us to navigate around and under. So majestic.
we then headed off to get the Expedition when I realised that I had forgotten to write Tag-along's name in the book. Oh well on the way back will be OK.
OH YEAH! On the way back I decided I would do the honours for him. That's OK but the current had other ideas. Let's just say sometimes I stepped into the water by choice and others it wasn't my choice at all. The water was cold but the bigger problem was getting back into the kayak again. It was stuck between a branch and a smaller bush with the paddle somehow stuck underneath; me by its side standing waist deep in the water wondering how I was going to manage this little trick.
Somehow I managed to free the kayak and store the paddle then climb up to a slightly higher level and 'fall' into the seat. Great now all I have to do is negotiate that little current a a fraction more and all would be well.
To cut a long story short I returned to our launching pad wet but warm, happy but tired and safe. I think I could do with more practice navigating a river with hidden snags (that will come later) and little rapids. Not scared of water but hopeless at controlling a wayward kayak in a river that has its own mind.
TFTC and the fun here Jacko83

Keen to get out and try the kayak I'd borrowed from my brother I figured I'd give this cache a try.
Rather a last minute decision, as usual, but manage to get the yak on and off the ute and into the water ok by myself. Quite happily paddling along, obviously not watching where I was going and ran over a submerged tree. Scared the living daylights out of me and I was positive I was going to capsize the poor boat - not a welcome thought that water was bloody cold! Managed to stay up the right way and kept on paddling, being just a bit more careful where I was going after that.
About 100m from GZ i came to the sudden realization that i had forgotten a pen. Again.
Well, I wasn't turning around when I was so close, I figured if there wasn't a pen in and cache I'd improvise with a stick and some mud.
That's what I ended up doing, hanging onto the tree branch and hoping I didn't float away (or fall in!). I don't think the marks in the book will fade to nothing but will put the photo up here just in case.
Thanks Jacko83 for another awesome cache, loved the area and the paddle.

I’ve had my eye on a few T5 caches around Geelong for quite some time and needing to find a T5 cache for the "Get Extreme“ Souvenir. With the added bonus of an event on in Geelong today that was all the extra encouragement needed to get over this side of the bay.
As it turned out we picked up a T5 first find near the event then after attending the event it was off to the Barwon river for some more T5 fun. After finding "What ever floats you boat” It was all up stream to this cache, after some confusion as to where I should be looking I finally went with instinct and disregarded where the GPSr wanted me to look. This time it paid off and I soon spotted the cache, Hopped back in the yak and headed over to GZ for an easy find, in the end my GPS was only out by a few metres and there was no need to exit the Kayak to retrieve the cache[font=Courier New]

After my last paddle along this part of the river, I didn't think I would be going back to it at this time of the year. Thursday night, I put in a message to theTritonz about going for an early morning paddle to this one. Yes was the reply but can it be later. No, it's glorious at that time in the morning I said. Well I was a little wrong. I ended up parking in the wrong spot at first [:o)] realising my mistake, I made the quick trip to the correct spot and met theTritonz. It was still dark and I was told upon my arrival that Geelong had banned all outdoor activities until 8am lol. We waiting out the morning dark until we could see our hand in front of us and then prepared to hit the chilly water. 6 deg, no problems It was a brilliant paddle, cold aside. We saw quite a few water birds, ducks and even the fox was spotted. After a 2km paddle which didn't even feel like it after a great chat along the way, we were where we needed to be and the clean log was there for us [^] theTritonz even did a cameo 'Solo-man' on the way back. A fun paddling trip with great company even though it was freezing. Ah, I love life! Signed returned as found.
[blue]Thanks for this traditional cache hide, Jacko83. A favourite from me. [^]
Log and container in good condition.

We seen this one pop up but the bad news was work got in the way, then late at night there was a message from Na'wal saying that FTF was still up for grabs so we decided to set out at the crack of dawn.
That all sounded good and well at the time until morning came at the temp outside was a freezing 5°.
I tried to convince Na'wal that i just heard on the radio that all morning activities had been banned and its a Government ruling.
But i could not fool him so in the end i had no choice but to man up and get on with the paddle.
After setting up our Yaks in the freezing cold we were off and luckily the paddling got us warmed up.
Along the way we seen plenty of sheep out and about and we even spotted the fox out for a play and lots of bird activity in the area.
The water was super smooth making for a nice morning paddle with picturesque scenery.
Paddling along and having a good yak and before we knew it we were soon at the cache and looking at a clean logbook.
Thanks Jacko83 for another great adventure.
A favourite point headed your way
