Day 5 of the annual Crooked Clan Christmas Celebration Catch Up and our first day on Maggie. We try to give the Townsville rellies a break from visitors by having a few days away during our visit. Previous trips have involved travelling to Cairns, but we decided to keep it local this year with a short trip overseas to Maggie. I was last on Maggie for a wedding in about 2005. Before that I was a regular visitor in the 90's when I lived in Townsville before the Nelly Bay marina was built.
Arriving here after our success on the pier and some more reading of previous logs, we again had a pretty good idea of the container and a rough location. Both TCC505 and I headed down under and crawled around. We had been searching the usual likely spots on top of the bearers, when I realised that the container would nicely fit under the decking boards on top of the joists - which means a more thorough search of the entire deck area was necessary.
Soon some muggles came along and set up on the deck, so we called the DNF, hoping to return on another day.
Many thanks C&M+B&B

DNF despite taking a good look in the sand and all the likely hanging locations around GZ.
We sent Donald under to retrieve this one. He found it on the ground but it looked like it was supposed to be suspended do he returned to the nearest hanging location. Was able to date log and sign for chrissylat but pen died while adding westysclan. TFTC

Day 17 of a 3 week holiday driving from Canberra to Townsville and back to attend the Mega. Today was attempting to finish all the caches on Magnetic Island. I ended up with 2 DNFs and 3 did not attempts. Otherwise a successful day with some pleasant and enjoyable walks. Two Koalas sighted plus some bird species I hadn't seen before. Cache soon found. TFTC.

With great excitement we headed to Townville for the for the first FNQ Mega - we were very curious to see how much it had changed since we lived there pre-caching.
Today we headed over to Maggie with Pprass, the primary goal was to do the AdLab and have a look about. It was supposed to rain but it hardly bothered us at all.
Thanks for contributing to the fun C&M+B&B

Due to rain overnight, don’t think it stopped all night, our plans for today began around Horseshoe Bay. We hoped the rain would hold off. We were lucky to start with but we were stopped at attempting a couple of caches due to flooded roads or flooded track assesses.
Great coords so a quick find but Lady membsec got a bit dirty!!

We arrived on Maggie at 2pm for 3 nights. Just enough time to look for a few caches before dinner. Ran into gmj3191 and PamJ at our second cache so had some help with the next ones. So great to meet one of our reviewers and so grateful for all they do voluntarily for the game. Thanks C&M and B&B for the cache
What an absolutely fantastic day of caching. A day of caching which included Willis007 and Gcoven and where we had organised a day trip to Magnetic Island, (to see where they make all the magnets). I had organised a topless ride for the day to add to the fun, it was then named the “JALOPY”, however, we got more than we bargained for there. The Jalopy was a Suzuki heap, your typical was a typical island car of the 70’s, which is probably when it had its last service and road worthy check… the fun in that thing alone today was priceless.
The area around the island was just fantastic and the walks brilliant. We managed to see a couple of Koala’s sleeping in a tree near a walkway. Some great birdlife and some stunning beaches.
The caches were a lot of fun and we managed to grab the important ones for us and a few others as we passed by. Thank you to the CO’s for the hides and the continuing maintenance of the caches. We signed all logs and replaced as we found them and had a fantastic day.

Yep As part of the CacheQLD committee I am here working, caching, catching up with friends and generally having a fab time. Some awesome puzzles up this way and some tricky and adventurous hides! Awesome experience! Today was island day so myself chamad and Willis007 headed over , grabbed our open air jalopy and spent a brilliant day chasing adventures. Thanks to all the COs for the caches! With a mob of young girls on a school trip aboard the structure we looked so suspicious!
Gcoven, chamad and myself had always said we would do a tour of Magnetic Island while we were here for the MEGA. Today was the day!
After attending Bugs Birthday Bash we boarded the ferry and headed towards a very beautiful Island, it showed us all it had to offer today - black cockatoos, koalas, stunning views, amazing monoliths and some beautiful trees.
Our last cache for the day before heading back to the car hire. A quick find too which was good as our bodies were becoming quite weary. It had been a big but very enjoyable day.
Thanks C&M+B&B for all of the caches we have found of yours today. Love the effort put into placing and maintaining these - an FP from me.

I was so hot by now and made a beeline to Picnic Bay to have a swim at the beautiful beach here. So refreshing, at one of the only 2 places with stinger nets. Loved the excellent lawn under the palm trees to lie on after my swim, had lunch outside the surf lifesaving club and found myself a cache too.
Another day in Townsville means another day of caching and tourism for Tankengine, Youban and I.
Today though was a very exciting day which I was very much looking forward to.
TikvaNZ charted a boat to go around to some of the more inaccessible caches. Our Captain Adam and his offsider were awesome! Captain Adam knew his history and his driving skills made us confident in his ability to get us where we needed. They provided such a delicious morning tea and lunch. The service was well worth the money.
All in all the day was fun. We couldn’t get all the caches we wanted, we just didn’t have time. And our caching senses were off today too which made it rather annoying in that sense. But a quick drink at the pub before we left made things better. And the memory of all the fun we had on the boat will be what I take away from today.
This cache: Another find down. Thankfully rather quickly. Tftc!!!

Day 5 of my magnificent Mega trip to Townville with SnappyTomCats. Today we caught the 8am ferry across to Magnetic Island for the day. Such a beautiful place.
Picnic Bay is just lovely. We arrived at GZ and had to distract a young man while the cache was being grabbed by Mr STC.

Day 5 of our Townsville Mega event weekend. Today along with hevwalker we took the ferry for a day on Magnetic Island, do do touristy stuff and find a few caches. just got to around GZ and reading about the cache, when I get a "Hello". After my heart restarted I turned around to see a tiny muggle about 3 or 4 who announced his name was Freddie. So he asked all sorts of questions and wouldn't leave me alone..watching me like a hawk. So I get meggs and hevwalker to distract him while I retreive sign and replace. TFTC
Glad to have picked this one up after a DNF on the pier. Great way to end the day after attending the Mega in Townsville. TFTC!
It’s Mega time once again!! Woo hoo!! Love these epic road trips and a wonderful Mega event. Managed to cache with loads of different people throughout the long weekend - such a fun way to cache! Have signed as SCG, X, Snag, Capital crunchers, NRC, Nibletricecakes, Minifigas, Minifig or some combination of the above! Thanks to everyone in the region for the top quality caching. Appreciate your efforts planting and maintaining these caches.
One of a few of the caches we found around Magnetic Island. Thank you for hiding these for our enjoyment

This cache was found as part of a trip with GoosenEgg and Stainless Steel Rat to Far North Queensland for the Townsville Mega. The trip started in Cairns and ended in Mackay, and allowed us to find some ripper caches inbetween.
We managed to complete some of the Breaking Bad cache series until we driven back to the car due to the heat, and the Saint and most of the book series. There were some good variety in both these series which kept them interesting.
One of the highlights (although a low light when removing the mud) was the walk on the salt flats outside Townsville to get the challenge caches
Another highlight was Magnetic island, where other than some great views, we managed to spot two koala's in the wild.
Thank you for placing and maintaining this cache that was part of our trip

We met some island goecachers here (granny1951 I think) with young ones in tow. They had not been able to find tis cache so were pleased when we did and signed the logbook with us.

A ten day mega trip was arranged with Stainless steel rat and Budgietas. We flew into Cairns and out of Mackay, with the majority of the time in and around Townsville. We found a huge variety of caches and although our find count was a little lower than we would have liked, some of the high D/T caches more than made up for that. I really appreciate the effort of the local COs and all the people involved in hosting the mega and associated activities. I enjoyed catching up with many of our caching buddies, and make some new ones too!
Thanks for a great mega trip!

Great Northern escape 2022 Day 7. Townsville Mega section Day 7. Today was the first big outing of the Townsville leg of this trip. I joined Nibletricecakes, Gliss!, Smitten Granny and Cosmonaut97 for a day trip to Magnetic Island. It was an early start, but pleasant ferry ride over. First activity was the walk up the Forts hill for the Labs and a few caches. This took us till late morning, so after a few caches around Horseshoe Bay, we had lunch and continued caching, targeting some nice old caches and solved puzzles. Our return to the South side of the island took us to a nasty pier cache where we failed badly before lining up for the ferry home. We were all ready for dinner and bed after a fantastic day !
Thanks for the cache C&M+B&B

Fifth day in Queensland and today we had book the ferry crossing over to Magnetic Island, we had Gregg filling the spare seat in the back of the 4WD, just the one day to try and fit everything in, we didnt get everything but we never do!
This was my first Mega trip in a while now, I had planned to go to the last one in Wangaratta but concerns about COVID made me pull out at the last minute. For this one it was a trip with BudgieTas and GooseandEgg landing in Cairns on the Sunday where we collected a few caches in the dark before driving down to Townsville on the Monday collecting a select few caches along our very indirect route.
While in the Townsville we made the best of our time collecting a few series of caches and searching for some of the older caches on offer, some with lots of favourite points or something we thought maybe a bit different, along with all that we got to go to all the Mega events and meet up with cachers old and new, spending Thursday with Greg going round Magnetic Island and a bit of time with the Davinells who went out of their way to welcome the Tasmanians to Queensland.
All to soon it came to an end and we drove down to Mackay on the Monday again collecting caches along the way before flying home on the Tuesday Morning.
Thanks for the warm (sometimes too hot) welcome Queensland until next time!
Thanks for the cache.

Found with Nibletricecakes, Smittengranny, Albida33 and Cosmonaut97 while on a fabulous daytrip to Magnetic Island. We had a great day, great weather and great selection of interesting caches. TFTC.
Found while in Townsville to attend the Mega event.
I travelled up from Adelaide, taking a week or so so get here, meeting up with FeatherWaite to do some caching around the Cunnamulla area then continuing on to Barcaldine and Charters Towers.
While in Townsville I teamed up with Budgietas, Stainless-steel-rat and Gooseandegg on some days, including a day on Magnetic Island, and with Davidwazza at other times. When caching with Davidwazza, logbooks were signed DWEG1.
All in all it was a great week or so in Townsville, with plenty of great caches found.
This one was a little awkward with a few muggles about, but found easily enough.
Thanks C&M+B&B for the cache.

Apologies in advance for the generic logs, but I am getting too far behind in my logging and the Mega hasn't even started yet. The logs are not to be taken as a measure of the quality of the cache or their location.
One of my best geocaching days ever. Nibletricecakes booked her full car across on the 7 am barge for a day's caching on Magnetic Island. The group travelling together included Albida33, Cosmonaut97, GLISS! and me so logs were signed as NACGS , with a silent C - not that she could ever be accused of that.
The views were absolutely spectacular all around the island and I loved the feel of the place. What a pity we have such a short time here. Thanks to all the COs for the time and effort that has gone into placing these caches that add to our incredible game.

Found with an intrepid group of cachers comprising of myself, smittengranny, albida33, Gliss!, and nibbletricecakes. Signed the log as NACGS. Lovely day spent at Maggie Island and looking forward to coming back one day to finish off the ones we weren't able to get today. TFTC.
Took a bit of searching. Found it in the sand so we think it fell down. Placed back up where we think it should be. TFTC. Beautiful spot.
By piecing together the clues in the activity log, we were able to quickly make the find. TFTC

Quick easy find, which was a relief after the pier struggle. ??
Sorry about the late logs, my GPS died and I had to do a hard reset loosing all of my data, so now having to re-trace my steps. Luckily we only found about 15 caches over a few days, so they’re easily enough to remember.
Thanks again

Found it, I got bit sandy but when I opened the cache it was wet so I couldn’t write on it and it was full so you should replace it. TFTC
Fix sheet and make sure you seal it when you close it because at high tide it gets to the area where the cache is
Following the recommendation of previous finders to read the name and follow the sign it was a quick find.

Hard find. Did climb too far under in desperation. About to give up and thought about name of cache.
A little look under the right place and we came out with the goods. Very windy day today. Thanks for putting this one out for us to enjoy
