**Found Saturday 11-November-2023 at 15:26 Smiley #2295**Wow, I have slowly just been finding caches, signing logs, logging drafts and simply forgetting about these and never actually logging them. My sincerest apologies to the relevant CO's, especially if I found issues with them and didn't do anything about them.Unfortunately my drafts were also designed to jog my memory about the cache to assist with the logging process. Doesn't work when some of them are over 2 years old. Here comes some generic comments. Once again, I apologise SadOut on a very long and back and forth trip heading up towards Toogoolaha for a weekend away. Nice cruisey day at the dam.Cache logs are either stamped, signed with Rogersclan13 or just RC13 for space. Thanks for the cache **genyo** Big GrinRogersclan13 Cool

A friend was having a surprise milestone birthday party and a trip to Brisbane was required to attend.

After accidentally (on purpose), booking my flights a few days earlier, it was time to do some pre party caching around town.

After a late night last night, today was a little more laid back exploring some targeted caches around Brisbane and beyond.

A little explore of the area and the answers gathered. Answers submitted to CO.

Thanks genyo for adding this cache to the worldwide collection for us all to enjoy.

It was a late start today, but I ultimately decided that this rare day of sunshine was to good to pass up… So heading west I did a loop that included Laidley, Atkinson Dam, Esk, Fernvale and finally Blacksoil…

It’s been almost two years since my last visit… I have a vivid memory of the water or lack thereof in the dam then… today though, it’s full and the watercraft are taking full advantage…

It was interesting to read about the formation of man made lakes…

Thanks for bringing me back again…

Today at a Baby Shower for my cousin, pretty much at GZ. I waited patiently until the end to go off and play in the foreshore. This dam has never been so full. I water skiied here about 20 years ago. Then there was a period of time where it was completely empty. That was so sad. Now, however, it has recovered fully and people were very much enjoying it for water sports today. I have never really thought about why the water doesn't sink through to underground so thank you for bringing that to my attention.

Interesting that a log from just 2 months ago comments on the need for water in this dam. Yet now it is FULL.

I started my road trip out to Cunnamulla with a planned detour driving caching day out around Minden, Marburg, and then north picking up old caches and a few as I passed. Then travelled up to Esk and the across the divide finish up in Highfields for the night where I will start tomorrow.

Some absolute crackers of caches and views, some easy grabs and then there was the ones I suffered from cache blindness. Thank you to all the CO’s for the cache hides.

My next for the day, a quick find, I signed the log and replaced as found all good with this one.

Wow there is so little water in this dam now. I remember coming out here as a kid, you can see where the water use to be but now you need a taxi ride to get to the water’s edge, amazing.

After 4 days lock down we were free to get out and about so i suggested to my husband we take a picnic out here and find a few caches on the way. Firstly we found a cache nearby and then came here to answer the questions. There were a couple of people also having a picnic here. answered the questions as best as we could. Great place for a picnic. Thankyou for taking me here and for this nice earth cache.

I made my way down to Atkinson Dam today to collect the required info for an Earthcache and in the process acquire the souvenir as it is Earthcache Day (weekend!).

Wow, the dam water level is low. Now that I am home I have just googled it and have discovered the dam is at 5.4% as of today, 07/10/17. We have had a bit of rain recently but we will need a heck of a lot more to make a difference to the water level here! I guess it would make for good fishing, as the fish don't have as much water to hide in? Razz

I was quite fascinated by the rocks here, learning something new, thanks. Smile Not so fascinating were the eleventy-billion flies that didn't seem put off by the light rain at all!
Happy Earthcache Day / Weekend. Thanks for this Earthcache, genyo. Smile

01-Oct-17
We had a great drive today through this area. The weather was a little cooler, with rain clouds threatening. The lake must look spectacular when it is full of water. At the moment, the shore line is quite low, and the boat ramp doesn't get close to the waters' edge. here's hoping that will change with some good rain over the summer.
we have attached a picture at GZ, and sent our answers to CO. Many thanks for heading us this way. A great spot,

Domsky

We came out here this morning especially to do this Earthcache, as I'm using it as the letter "A" qualifier in the April Challenge cache Big Grin
I just need a letter "I" now and I'm done and dusted for the month [^]
A nice breeze was blowing across ground zero this morning, and the recent rains must have put a bit of water into this dam [?] Still looks nowhere near full though, but I guess the local farmers keep draining it for their crops Razz I shall attach a pic I took from ground zero Smile
I have sent my answers to the cache owner and logging this cache as per the guidelines Smile
Thanks for the Earthcache genyo Smile

Answers have been sent to CO.

We were participating in a meetup group riding the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail with an overnight camp at Atkinson Dam. As there was some daylight left, Dora the Explorer! and I decided to grab some nearby caches prior to it getting dark.

After leaving the caravan park and climbing up the wall, we were quite surprised as to how far away the water was. The dam did not look inviting but I could imagine how good it would look if it was full of water.

Find #934

Thanks ***genyo*** for providing an Earth Cache in this area.

Up from South Australia for a few days and out caching with Scrappy Trucker enjoying the wonderful sights that SE QLD has to offer, sadly we are running out of time as we fly out in a couple of days.
Thanks to genyo for bringing us to this place. As a child I was taught it is good to learn something new each day. Today was one of those days.
Sad that the area has not been the success it should have been, still a nice place for a picnic with good facilities.

Last time I was here, this cache had not been published. This afternoon, I was in the area cleaning up a few caches that I had missed on previous trips to the general area, so decided to stop off and collect the answers. there is a lot less water in the dam than there was last time I was here. A lot less muggles around too. Thanks for bringing me here again. It really is quite pretty.

TFTC 2118# what a lovely park I bet it is full of campers at Christmas time shame the water is low had a great day caching in the area out and about with my Daughter and geo dogs miss millie and George

17-Sep-16
As my daughter lives nearby today we decided that we would head out and gather the info needed for this cache. Certainly a lot less water here then when we were here last. There is a sign up saying the dam is closed to all watercraft due to the lack of water. When we first returned to SEQld we were told that the dam was basically empty but with the recent rain a little more water has covered the bottom.

We have sent our answers to the cache owner, hope they are what are required.

Today we also choose to do a bit of a clean up around the entrance as it was quite yuk. We only carry a few plastic bags with us and we very quickly had them filled.
Thanks for bringing us back here.

Finally found the time to drive in to do this one. Drove down to the signs on the edge of the lake. No one else here at the moment except for the lawn mower person up near the first entry point. The lake would be less than a third full at the moment. I can remember coming here back in the early 1970's for a picnic after going to a nearby strawberry farm and picking my own and paying by the bucket for the fruit. The area is well maintained. Left the dam by the bottom entry. Answers to questions have been sent to the CO.

It's the month of May and a challenge needs to be completed. I made plans with eskies5 to grab this one and then head off for a few others. A very early morning saw us arrive at the dam under a decent layer of fog and no water visible. At GZ we grabbed the needed answers and have emailed the CO. Thanks for bring us here genyo

Some answers sent to the CO for this one.

I was quite surprised how low the dam was today. I am pretty sure that last time I was here I would have been mowed down by a speed boat standing in the spot I ended up in today to reach the water. Surprised

I enjoy earthcaches, even when I struggle a bit with the answers to the questions. Most CO's seem to be happy with a good attempt at an answer if you are not right. Big Grin It is always good to learn something new too. [^]

Happy to be logging this with the permission of the CO today. had a great time here. The water level was really low but was just as much fun to get all the way to the edge. Felt like I was walking on the moon (artistic license here).

After completing the emu portion of the Coat of arms Geo art, I toured the Esk-Wivenhoe region picking up caches a selection of caches on the way back home .

I have never heard of this place and likely would never have visited if it wasn't for the caches placed here. The water level was very low, but there were still people down there mucking about with something or other.

Questions answered via email, learned something new as always. The info for this Earthcache was found after a short search, this one adds to our total of 2212 smilies and makes our 25th Earthcache . Thanks **genyo** for showing us this spot. Discover our trackable TGQNRV

My parents live nearby so I have visited the dam a few times over the past few years. The dam was very low this time and between the concrete boat ramp and the water there was quite a distance.

The area was deserted so I had plenty of time to wander down to the water and check out the geology stuff as well. I found some rocks and make some notes. I have sent the answers through via the Geocaching.com messaging service.

Thanks for the Earthcache genyo. This will be find number 2400 for me. Cheers!!

Great view:)

On my way out to the cat shelter near here and dropped in to Atkinson's Dam (as I always do, including once with the CO) on the way back out. This is a beautiful location and far enough off the track to be undiscovered by most day-trippers Smile On a previous visit I spotted a koala up a tree!!!

The water levels are seriously low at the moment and watersports are embargoed, so do check with SEQ before bringing your boat out here. The cat shelter told me the cattle are wandering across the Dam (as they do) when the water is low. It's still a peaceful spot to sit under a tree and shoot the breeze Big Grin

Answers sent to the CO and all good! A FAVE point for another reason to drop in to the lake, not that I need any encouragement, and for the science lesson. Clastic... who knew, eh?

TFT(E)C Genyo! Sweet!

Needed an earth cache for the souvenir and this was my closest not found. All my caching buddies were busy, so I jumped in the car and did the trip solo from toowoomba. Enjoyed the drive, belting out some songs (hey, no one could hear me!) and arrived to a near empty GZ. Last time I cached here, it was packed. Well I was in luck. I waddled down to the shore line and started my scientific investigations (ha!). All questions answered and sent to CO via message and email. I am hoping they are correct. I even took a photo of one of the rocks . Thanks for all the information on the dam, is great to always learn something new.

Logged with permission from CO.

A nice drive around the Lockyer Valley today grabbing a few finds. This was last for the trip and nice to finish on an Earth Cache. Got to GZ and checked out the jet ski action before getting down to business. Truth be told I've no idea if my answers are anywhere near correct, but I was there and had a crack at it. I'm no geologist that's for sure!Red Face I can recall visiting here years ago when the dam was almost empty, happily it's looking much better these days. Thanks for the EC genyo Cool
