No find for me either. That's 3 DNFs in a row. From the cache decription I have a pretty good idea what the cache hide might be, but... nothing.

27-Aug-17
No LUCK here today in the rain and gps jumping all over the place. interesting what you find in the pines thou.

Clearly missing a trick here. Checked all pine trees in the vicinity. No joy. Will have to try again.

Thought it might be buried under some recently dumped rubbish but found it very nearby. A cunning cache. Thanks.

Today, It being a non-shopping day, along with the fact that we were meant to be 200kms away out East Cape (but weren't due to the weather at the end of last week), we spent the day collecting a few caches around Rotorua to see a bit of different countryside and make the most of the fine weather that had come out to play.
Setting off from home at 6.30am (nice early start with the good wife) and a quiet drive over here. So it was a concentration on caches we could get to, that weren't roped off as the lake level was too high, and only involved a short walk, as didn't want to leave "wifey" with the car too long as she might leave without me and say "Bugger You" and the caches.

Managed to grab 27 of 27 today which was more than happy as it has left enough to come back to in the future. This was the ninth of the day and a nice quick find following some breakfast at the "Fat Dog". Nice cache and a not too slipery walk up the track on clay.
Although did get myself in the poo by offering to stop for antiques at Tirau on the way back [^], but then informed that as its Easter Sunday all shops are closed and that is the only reason I would offer to stop for a shop, as if Twisted

Thanks for the placement and bringing me to this location

2877 In Rotorua to find 12 caches to meet requirements for cache GC42CNY 12-12-12: A Challenge? (Rotorua). This was number 11. Parked as close as I could as it was raining. Made my way via the stream. Well it was the track but looked more like a stream because of the water flowing down it. Cache quickly found once I thought about the title.

In Rotorua for a FTF attempt but failed at that so thought we'd carry on and rack up some numbers to get the year rolling.
Luckily didnt get lost in the pines ourselves, gps coverage gets a bit sketchy amongst the big pines but it was an easy find.

24-Sep-16
24/09/16 17:35 Dot Day and unusually (for me) it isn't dark yet... I could see how one could get lost, circling around and around. Common sense took me to the right side of the track and I had fun playing with the GPS to see how close it would take me to the correct tree. I can't remember who won, GPS or thy, but the cache was satisfactorily found. Thanks for this, Cheers, GC.

Nice walk for an easy find

Had some business in Rotorua this afternoon and once that was finished decided I'd grab a few caches in and around town, with a bit of a focus on a few particular caches a bit further out from central, before heading back to Hamilton via Tokoroa. Managed to find all bar one that I attempted, getting home about 10pm and finding about a dozen caches.

Moved the car a bit closer to grab this one and another that was nearby. The rain was coming down a bit harder now, but it wasn't to bad under the tree cover. Manged to spot the cache quickly once at GZ, thanks for the hide.

Find #2 for the evening.

This one wasn't as small as we expected, in fact there was enough room for a rhino in it! Thanks for bringing us to this little suburban wild area.

19-Jul-16
On our school holiday adventure checking out more of the good things around Rotorua. After a morning at the luge we wanted a bit of a walk before we headed further south. Further into this park we ventured, past the bike jumps & associated pot holes with the towering trees around. We found the right pine to get the cache.

Sadly the last one of the walk we didnt find. GPS sending us in circles and when katgotya thought she had hit GZ she was surprised to have just about hit a little nest with 2 tiny little baby starling hatchlings in it! They were so tiny with mouths open waiting for food but hadnt even developed their squeeky chirps yet! Needless to say we evacuated the area and left mother nature to herself. Next time we will get lost in the pines. Tftc.

Decided that these caches would be a good way to finish my first sweep of Rotorua to clear the new caches. I have made a good dent in them and have done about 20 odd today. A lot for me and I don't know how a few other cachers do heaps more in a day. This is my limit! Got to GZ and spotted a couple of options for the cache. signed the log and looked around now not sure how I got here but I think the car is that way???? Lucky the GPS knew the way and we took a quicker route back to the car SmileSmileSmileTFTC SmileSmileSmile

Once settled and search beginning, the cache was soon in hand and formalities could proceed.
Camo, cache,log in good nick.

09-Sep-15
In town today to test out some new bikes for work so once that was finished I had time to find some caches.
I nearly didn't try for this one as I had the dnf's as the latest logs on my garmin but I thought, it would be pretty satisfying finding one after a few dnf's. Once I got to GZ I made a pretty quick find, then I checked my phone and saw that it had been replaced between now and when I had downloaded the gpx files earlier this week.
All in all a good find here and nice spot and a nice line of 4 smilies for me.

Managed to check this today after a couple of DNF logs cache had in deed gone missing I have replaced with a new container and covered with camouflage. Base of a tree.

08-Sep-15
Day 8: The continuing adventure to log 50 caches on consecutive days (A 50-Day caching streak)... On this mission with Gap (of Fap and Gap).

Tihi Reserve is a fantastic place for caches (I used to have a puzzle in here). But I learnt that this area is well used and people can approach without you realising or even seeing them until they are almost on top of you... Dogs and dog walkers have a tendency to explore off track, so there is a likelihood that caches could be discovered easily and unintentionally.

Today, we came in from above. We spotted the camouflage from about 20 metres away, so this was a quick retrieve. At that moment, a family of dog walkers appeared on the path above. Another dog walker was coming from the other direction, and it was obvious that they would cross paths right by ground zone. The family passed by without incident. But the young, single walker asked me straight up, what I was doing... I told him about geocaching and showed him this cache (which I was still carrying). He seemed to be very interested, and departed as I was returning the cache...

I always fear that caches get compromised in these sorts of situations, and I didn't want to risk returning this one with its noticeable camouflage... So I looked for something less obvious. The cache is in the same spot, but now has a different covering. You'll know it when you see it... TFTC.

30-Aug-15
Sveppi and I ran into the CKNAO group near this cache and we all looked together. Not sure how to find this one with no hint and nothing obvious in sight. Don't damage the environment... should we or shouldn't we leave the trail to look for the cache? The GPS insists it is off the trail. Look at the base of every pine tree for a 20m+ radius, and even the odd Punga and gum tree... We found a wine bottle, cans, a fork, some fencing netting, a brick, a piece off a speaker, lolly and muesli bar wrappings, but no cache. One of the CKNAO group mentioned something about a spoiler pic which we didn't know about since these are not included in Pocket Queries... Even armed with this extra hint and spent another 10 minutes looking, we all left empty-handed...

30-Aug-15
Well this is still lost in the pines.... somewhere! With fanfan-77 on a short Sunday afternoon geocaching walk in the reserve, we had just nabbed 3 others and thought this would finish our afternoon off just nice. Bumped into another geocaching group who were also having no luck. GPS jumping around a bit but sure we look well in the general area. Mmmmmm Sad

30-Aug-15
Disappointed to say it was DNF for us too... I had a good idea what we were looking for but we really searched hard until the children were bored stiff & we had to dash... found everything but the elusive cache! If it hadn't of been for sveppi & fanfan-77 complete with their GPS units not finding it as well, I would have assumed it was just our lack of unit as we also had our phone gps jumping around all over the place, locking down randomly on the tree that the other 2 had said it was pointing at. Unfortunately, I think this one might be gone Sad However it was nice to meet other cachers out searching!!

Decided to move the car up the hill to attack this one from a closer angle. Wandered around, up and down, spotted a few passing people and kept going til we were lost in the Pines. Without a hint we had no idea where to start looking, and out of nowhere we were suddenly surrounded by little monsters with weird looking guns. We checked what ammo they were using, didn't want to be in the firing line of a water pistol or paint ball! Apparently it was safe, it was just pretend ammo, but it hindered our search for a while as we just had to hang around looking like lost old foggies who were suddenly very interested in the local flora. The fighting and 'gun shots' finally drifted off and we were able to spot the cache, a neat hide. TFTC.

We had parked on the road up above the reserve and made our way down the hill towards GZ. Searched a few places that the GPS pointed to before one of us spotted something worthy of closer inspection. Found in the Pines! Thanks.

#1119. FWF. I used to play in this area when I was a kid. It was mostly rough farm paddocks in those days and great for exploring after school. Interesting to see it full of trees and bike trails everywhere. The cache was found reasonably quickly once a group of muggles on bikes departed. Good coordinates and saw an object of interest and yes the cache was soon in hand. Signed the log. All safely returned. TFTC

12-Jul-15
Awesome little reserve with birds singing in all directions. Clever camo. TFTC Smile

11-Jul-15
Much better luck today. Approached from a different direction and got a better GPS fix. One of the team found it & then sat back and played hot/cold. Well, even knowing we were right on it, it took a while. Clever camo! FP from us!.

10.40am - (FTF) Big Grin While Gap is down the line with Squirrel thought I would attempt to do a cache while he is away and wooh hooh a FTF plus a dot day, how well did I do. Sneaky wee hide but easy to find. SLTFTC

10-Jul-15
11.10am Saw this one get published. Do I don't I. Have other things I should probably be doing. Wipped across town. Gps does not like trees. Found after a short search. Had hoped for a clear log sheet but foiled by Fap and Gap again : (

10-Jul-15
Had our usual leisurely start to the day, which we have become renown for. No good rushing to beat the FTF Vultures on a frosty morning. Arrived after 3:00 PM. It took some time for the for the GPS to settle down. A hint sunk in and finding the cache followed. Nice cammo.

Thanks DC

10-Jul-15
Thought this might at last be our chance for a FTF - close to home and familiar territory. One half of the fluffybeard team headed down at 8am to search the area. Yay, no one around - but alas the trees didn't help, nor did any geosense kick in, and had to head back home before the kids got frostbite. Will be back - hopefully to log a smiley!
