All that I could find here today were pinecones.

Seems to be a cache free tree also. No luck here today.

This is day nine of a ten day trip down to Dunedin and back to move my daughter there so she can get her master’s degree at Otago University. I spent the morning around Himatangi doing a series of caches, and then headed up to Turangi. I was going to stay a second night, but the weather was closing in.

I saw this series on my way back from the WENZ 2018 Mega last year and thought I have to do these one day.

After spending the night at the holiday park at Himatangi, the rain had stopped long enough for me to continue where I left off the evening before. TFTC.

Today was a numbers run for us. Lots of caches to choose from in this area so we did all but 2 of the KAS series, the mint tin series and some railway ones. 98 caches found in total and 2 DNF's something tells me we are going to have to go out again to find 2 more today. Many thanks to all the CO's of the caches we visited today, hugely appreciated and certainly love the quiet roads after Auckland.

Day 3/9 of our New Years trip up to the North Island. This was find #82/100 for the day and #151/526 of our trip.
Today was a numbers run of mostly PnG caches. We started in Palmy and set off to see if we could Spell, then headed up to Bulls and after that rounded up a few Smurfs, Herbs, Airplanes, Railway stations and anything else along the way until we came in to finish the KAS trail we started in Oct 2016. We are finally here to finish off what we started in 2016 on the way to the Mega in Turangi. As intended most were pretty quick easy finds. We left our new signature item, a Rainbow Beadtail. Thanks for the effort involved in placing and creating this series for all of us to enjoy. Smile

Day #1 of our four day caching trip to Palmerston North. As it's the first time back in several years, there are heaps of new caches to find Smile
After attending this mornings event, and checking into our accommodation, we decided to head out west to the cache dense area of various trails. This afternoon it was all about the numbers.
There wasn't much suitable parking here, or anywhere to turn around, so I dropped StreetWalker off and looked for somewhere to turn the car around. I expected him to have found the cache by the time I returned, but he was still searching. Just as I was wondering whether I should join him, he called out that it had been found. TFTC.

#16362. One of the longer searches for the series. Was pleased to get there in the end. TFTC.

28-Nov-18
This was a real challenge for us clambering around but after 15 minutes and no real idea where it was we logged a DNF

27-Oct-18
My second to last day on the north island and rain was coming so I decided to hit the trail to see if I could get a quick 50 or so. Loved the series, a few had full or wet logs, I had stash of presigned replacement logs in my pocket so replaced as necessary. Thanks for the trail kaŝmemoro

Biked along these roads from mid-morning to late afternoon, locating 65 caches along the way. Unfortunately this wasn’t one of them, despite searching for several minutes. The cache could have been anywhere. In this instance a hint would have been useful!
Thanks anyway to the cache owners for putting all these hides in place.

Heading to Wellington Mega a day earlier with Squirrel Nutcase and NZ Flossy a day earlier.
Out to collect caches that we have previously passed.
So sorry cache owners, we had a fairly large find today so it's a copy and paste day.
Thanks everyone for their cache placements that we found. SLTFTC

WENZ Mega Weekend is almost here... Motoring south today with Gap (of Fap and Gap), and NZFlossy. Our intention is to cache our way to our accommodation in Lower Hutt... The big news of the day is that Highway 1 is closed at Pukerua Bay. A truck crash and chemical spill have shut down all lanes coming to and from Wellington. We have plenty of caches to find to keep us occupied, but this could be a long wait...

Friday: I have been looking forward to this next collection of caches; a sweep south from Sanson, along Highway 1. I am mostly looking forward to the historic railway caches in the Manawatu Rail series... Deviating from the main road, we came through Taikorea to finish off the KAS Trail. These cache hides were typical of our earlier finds... A tricky find after a widened search. TFTC.

On my way to the mega with Squirrel Nutcase and Fap and Gap. Having lots of fun and enjoying the ride and the scenery. It’s what I love about caching - great company and visiting great places. Thanks to all the COs for all their caches Hopefully we see some of them at the mega this weekend TFTC

Up for the Mega for the week, headed up the coast for a couple of days on family stuff, but did get few caches in for the day. many thanks to the cache placer's - Bitsprayer

It’s Day 1 of our 2018 WENZ MEGA crusade and Team BOP are well represented by McJandals, NZFlossy, TNXPro, Davidson Clan, FapAndGap & Squirrel nutcase and myself.

We have a huge hit list for this 5 day affair so it's gonna be a little manic. We’ve signed our logs either individually or as ‘Team BOP’ depending on log space, size or condition. A special thanks to all the CO’s and those who have helped keep these caches in good order.

Cache found quickly thanks to accurate co-ords and a straight forward placement. A neat series and theme but most of the log sheets need replacing and are good examples of my we should be using waterproof paper. TFTC.

It's finally Mega weekend!

I was in Palmerston North from Thursday till Sunday, visiting from Wellington. The main reason for the trip was for my son to compete in the Manawatu Winter Swimming Championships at Freyberg Pool. He wanted to achieve qualifying times for a big Intermediate School swimming competition later in the year and this was the last opportunity before the cut-off date.

While I was up here I thought it would be a good opportunity to pick up the remaining 27 caches I need to collect the last Heavenly Creatures souvenir. There seem to be quite a few in this area so it looks like a good place to get them all.

This is number 24 of 27. The cache is in fair condition. Not completely dry... but that is not unexpected at this time of the year. I signed "22/7/18 CR". Sorry for the cut and paste logs. As mentioned above, I was on a mission to get 27 as fast as I could.

Thank you

Cherrys Rule

Spoke to soon about having a good run, my first DNF, oh well onto the next one

07-Jul-18
Yesterday I found 57 caches geocaching solo chasing Hidden Creatures souvenirs, before stopping for the night at a Sanson motel.
This morning I resumed my intended planned route to complete the KAS animal trail before the weather breaks later today. Once again I thank the COs for placing these.
Couldn’t see the significance of the title initially, but found after a short search

27-May-18
Found while on a day out with junior cacher. Not a bad afternoon's haul, for me: a mystery cache, 20 trads along this power trail and a previous DNF. Thanks for the cache!

30-Apr-18
We took longer to find this than we should have, as the coordinates were good. There were a few wasps in the area, but not directly at the cache. TFTC

30-Mar-18
My son and I have been trying to get around to doing the KAS trail for quite some time now, ever since we finished getting through the nearby Chewy Mint trail.

The Planetary Pursuits event currently running, and an available free day with my son over the Easter weekend, seemed like the perfect excuse to finally hit it!

So I planned a route that also took into account some other nearby caches, such as this one, making a grand total of 84 caches to be attempted today, curious to know if we could absolutely blast our previous record (40) for the number of finds for a day. As it turned out, we had just 5 DNF's, so it was a tremendous result that propelled us almost all the way to Pluto in 1 day! I now have a very tired, but happy lad.

I apologise for the generic 'cut n paste' style of my log, but with 79 to do tonight I figured it was the only way.

This was a straightforward find. The cache and logbook were fine, except the log was completely full. I had paper in the car, so started a new log.
The log was signed as "T & T" to cover myself and my lad ThatWeirdGuy04.

Having just had my first placement muggled a couple of weeks ago, I am very much in appreciation of all CO's who place and maintain caches for the rest of us to find.

Taking the opportunity to escape some of Wellington's drizzle for the day with a caching trip around the Levin, Shannon and Foxton area with Yeetrees and Gonefishing. Had previously found the earlier caches from the series back on June 2015 so it was good to be able to pick up the newer ones today.
Thank you for the geocache.

In the Manawatu for the weekend with some caching buddies- Uncle Sam, NZTravellers, Stik-a-crane. The goal was to find as many of the local caches that we could in the space of a day. We managed to find 206, I think, in the space of 14 hours, with a few bathroom/ coffee breaks and a couple of meal breaks. We all had a blast jumping in and out of the car, racing each other to the caches, and laughing and joking along the way, and in general had an awesome weekend down here.
We really enjoyed this trail, and I particularly thought the guardians of the cache containers were pretty cool!
Apologies for the generic logs.... with over 200 caches found in one day, it was virtually impossible to remember each individual cache!
Log signed as Team SEAC (South East Auckland Crew) in order to save log space.

A group of us descended on this area for the weekend to gather a big number day, and with a few trails in the area it was decided this would be the area to give us the best shot.... 200 was our goal and we had been making good progress...liked the cache guardians on this series...

signed in as SEAC to save logbook space.....

Our team from Auckland wanted to do a major day of caching, so headed down to Foxton area for a massive day. We got about 205.

Very sorry for the generic logs, but when doing so many in one day very hard to make notes on each.

But a big thank you to all the cache owners for putting out all of the great caches we visited.

Logs signed as either “Team SEAC” or “SEAC” – South East Auckland Crew.

Sidewaze and I are out to exceed our best ever daily total today. To help us on the way we chose to take this self drive KAS guided tour round the beautiful rural Manawatu countryside. The cows were making quite a racquet along here - disturbing the peacefulness. This one took a bit more effort to get to than most. TFTC #9387

24-Oct-16
Sidewaze and Isis58 on a 5 day long weekend adventure to the Mega in Turangi. 4 days each involved a considerable amount of travelling. That left one day when we didn’t have to get somewhere and we could cache for as long as we liked. We had an amazing day around the backroads and valleys of the Manawatu, really getting a feel for the lie of the land as we travelled.
The brilliant red of the early morning sky was amazing. We marvelled at the green green grass, observed the thousands of cows, heard hundreds of bulls and lots of pheasants and plovers. Saw lots of beautiful mauve daisies. Geocaching is a great way to see so much country that you would otherwise bypass. We signed most logs SWIS to save space, time and sanity. Thank you so much for placing this cache.

I had to drop my 6 year old daughter off at her cousins house in Wellington so what better excuse to grab a few caches along the way with out the rest of the family in-tow. Luckily they didn't come as I took six hours to drive what normally would be two hours!
I just had to finish off the new additions to this series that popped up after we initially completed it.
Another quick find here.
Thanks for the cache and the smiley.

I was in Palmy North on business and decided to stay an extra day and spend time driving the KAS trail Nicely put together with the added bonus that its all on a sealed road.. and with plenty of parking. Just great. The weather co-operated with sunny skies and a nice breeze. Thanks for the trail.

19-Mar-16
I traveled down to Palmerston North for a 3 day geocaching weekend to give my numbers a bit of a boost, as I head towards my next caching milestone. I decided to fly there and back and pick up a cheap rental car for the weekend. The weather was perfect and I had a great weekend down there.

Today I joined forces with yorkshirekiwi83 for a full day of caching before an event in the city tonight. We picked up a few caches around the city first, then drove down towards Opiki collecting caches down some of the side roads as we went, then headed across to do the KAS Power Trail, before going up to do the caches around Ohakea then headed back to Palmerston North.

At this point we worked our way through the KAS Power Trail Series - a series that YK83 started last year, but which came an abrupt end for her. Today we had no such problems and had an enjoyable time finding all of the caches on the trail - the vast majority were nice easy finds, we only had notable issues with 3 caches (which I will go into more detail about on the relevant cache logs.) Thanks for the obvious time that has been spent putting these neat containers together and for placing this trail!

Vistra and I headed down to Manawatu as the KAS trail has been bugging me in its incomplete form, as we both needed numbers for personal goals it seemed like a good opportunity. Thanks to the cache owners for all the caches and the variety, over 2 days I found over 200 caches, so thank you for placing and maintaining them.

Most were quick easy finds, although there were some very clever ones and some well thought out. TFTC

Since I was back in the region for a couple of weeks I decided a big day caching was on order. Calls were made and plans were put in place and Jesso22, Stardust 718 and I set off in my new 4WD to collect a heap of caches. The first cache was collect at 7am and last one just before 7pm. The final numbers came to just of 150 so a productive day was had.
Found as Team AJS to save space on the very full logs

For months we had been planning a 100+ day but the timing had just never worked out for us. Now with Christmas and all of our summer activities behind us and AtomsNZ back in town it was the perfect time! AtomsNZ arrived at my house at 6.45am with Stardust718 in tow and off we went on our mission. The day was quite successful, started with a few solved puzzles then on to the KAS trail and the mint tin trails before squeezing in as many caches around Foxton, Levin and Shannon that all three of us hadn't previously found. Final total was just over 150 (just to be on the safe side in case we made a counting error). Most caches signed as AJS (or JAS depending on who signed it) to save room in the logs as some were quite full. Thanks to all of the COs it was a great day with many great finds.

# 943: I joined forces with AtomsNZ and Jesso22 for a 14 hour caching day. Found at 9:03:00 a.m. The main goal was the KAS trail and however many more nearby caches we could find. Our total came out at just over 150 for the day so we were all pretty happy with that. Thanks to the many CO's that made this day possible. We had a great time travelling lots of back roads.

Loved the various bugs on the containers. I'm not usually one to like creepy crawlies but thesse were cool and made for a more interesting power trail.

Logged signed as AJS (our team name for the day) as many log sheets were very small/or nearly full. we added new log sheets were possible.

Not comfortable with the parking at this spot. Suppose we could have parked elsewhere and walked 50m though.

#1775 As i was picked up just after 4am to head to the Manawatu I realised this was not going to be a dot day. This was an attempt to get 270 caches in one day. There are a couple of great circuits in the Manawatu that will help work toward this goal so thanks to the CO's that have placed them for our enjoyment.

Thanks also to my partner in geo crime and driver for the day Yetrees. Without an able driver an attempt such as this would be impracticable so thanks for enabling it.

Thanks to all the CO's for their contribution to my smilie tally.

It is forecast to be a long day geocaching, hoping to make the 270 target. To be honest I'd be pretty happy with 200, however why not go for the Emerald badge (see project-gc.com)

#1849. Was just about to start the hunt when a pilot vehicle came up the road followed by a very large truck and a humongus digger on the back. One they had gone I snaffled the cache and pointed the compass to the north... Well I have been planning on having a trip to the Manawatu for some time to pick up the powertrails. With the run of great weather we have been having I booked a motel for two nights at Foxton and planned for Friday 12 February to be my "Manawatu Big Day Out". I had prepared an Excel sheet with 170 caches listed on it in a logical driving order going from Foxton through the various trails and over to Palmie and SE to Shannon and back across to Foxton. My first goal was to get enough finds to crack the 142 in 24 hr challenge, then get over the 150 barrier, and all going well see if I could exceed my current largest day of 57 caches by an extra 100 caches. Well the day dawned fine and I was on the road and at my first cache by 6.40am. I unlocked the motel door at 11pm with 158 caches under my belt. Not bad for a solo performance driving a car and trying to keep half an eye on the GPS and other half on the road. Got muggled by farmers twice and pulled over by the police twice (that's another story - read the relevant logs). The KAS power trail took 6 hrs and 20 mins to find 103 caches and DNF on 6 of them. That averages out at 3 and half minutes per successful cache. I had 120 finds by 3.40pm and the last 38 took 6 hours and 20 minutes as I headed into more dispersed and trickier to find caches. The power trails are a bit of an endurance test, especially in the heat of a summers day. Not helped by NZ cricket team losing wickets faster than I could find caches. Take plenty of water and food with you. I stopped just once for an ice cream and a pie on outskirts of Palmie. Some caches were memorable. Others just made up the numbers. Thanks so much to the CO's who put them out for me to find. Cheers GSEL

Every since this power trail came out, a plan was hatched to use it as part of an epic caching day, going for record numbers. Originally it was a 150 cache day, but as the trail grew, & many smaller trails & caches started to pop up in the Hawkes Bay, the target soon began to look like an achievable 200. Finally we decided today was the day to have a crack at that target.
All in all this was a pretty well set up, fast & straight forward trail. Our only concern would be that the odd cache was a little too close to people's houses which was clearly attracting attention from the locals. We were pursued down the road by one local, & sworn at by another. Probably our fault for doing part of this trail in the dark. We would definitely recommend doing it in daylight hours.
Thanks for setting this up Kasmemoro

Found as part of Team WITT on an epic caching mission. TFTC

Cache # 2,965 - part of a massive 13-hour day, doing a blitz around Palmerston North wider area with team WITT (Wandering Dragons, Infoferret, Taybee and TaybeeNZ), ultimately resulting in 160 caches for me. The KAS trail was the heart of this effort, and it took us 4.75 hours to go around it. Because of the sun and the heat, we had to break halfway through and stop by a nearby township for some ice creams and cold drinks. Fantastic effort to set all of this up, and a great power trail. TNLNSL. TFTC!

Due to rough weather and outrageous airline prices, we had not been able to get across to the South Island for our planned Marlborough Sounds adventure. So what better thing to do while wending our way back north than a spot of caching. This afternoon turned into an epic day of caching on this trail, with our last puzzle cache 'pick up' coinciding with the last ray of sun setting in the west. It was beautiful end to the day but well and truly past time to get to Hamilton for a rest stop en route to Ruakaka and Waipoua later in the week.
We did not miss getting a smiley face on any of the caches this series and were particularly impressed with the way the caches were in good order, clearly well maintained. Loved the palm trees and animals associated with each cache and helping with the name.
Apologies for the copy and paste, but with 114 caches found in this series plus 5 puzzle caches picked up, this has also been a marathon effort to log. TFTC to kasmemoro for the KAS series.

Left Ms KR at the art gallery today and went of a bike ride to collect more of this series. Would you believe it I had a flat tire at my paking spot and 2 out of 3 spares had holes, and when I got back to the motel the one I had used was flat too. Ah well maybe I was destined to slow down?

Well done on the hides and thanks for the effort put in to creating and maintaining the trail

TIme to head home to Christchurch, the slow way!

Thanks to all the CO's for their hides.

[green] Out with Etherlord to wipe out the KAS series in one day. Started at 6:45, and finished about 6 hours later. But in that time we also did the mint tin trail and the stopped off in Foxton for more fuel, doing a few railway caches along the way. We swapped driving/finding duties every corner. I fully expected this to be a nothing special trail, but the critters turned out to be a nice touch. Enjoyed seeing what was attached to each cache! What an epic day for me!
It started with attending a 6am flash mob event, which gave us a great early start to complete the KAS trail (114 caches), the Mint Tin trail (10 caches), and 10 other ManRail/random caches along the way, for a total of 135 finds before lunch.

In just 6 hours, I found more caches than all of 2015 (123), all of 2014 (132), one more than my previous Best Month (134), and more than doubled my previous Best Day (55).
What a great start to 2016! [^]

Thanks for the Caches, we signed the logs as ECATS: "Etherlord Clan and the Seagnoid"

I've stayed my 4 nights in Paraparaumu and today I'm heading home to Auckland via a whole heap of caches before the rest of this KAS power trail then several caches after that before heading home. I'm looking forward to today, I had my best ever day of caching yesterday in terms of numbers but today I'm expecting to better that score.
