I often forget to log Events. I post on our FB page then forget about geocaching.com . Not this time. I was delighted at the turnout, especially cachers who came quite a distance to make this one of the best "small" events I can recall.
It was a Wednesday night and a real live Canadian had been spotted lurking around the Chevron Island area. A group of local geocachers had decided to track him down and fill his ears with stories of native Australian animals.
We had warned him about the drop bears that frequent the area but just to be on the safe side I brought some vegemite which needs to be applied behind the ears to keep them away.
As it turns out.... the internet has no sense of humour and there is a wikipedia page all about the drop bear and their friends the hoop snake and jackalope.

It was great to see lots of cachers out on a "school night". After a chat and some tim tams dipped in vegemite (no, not really but we did try and suggest that they were eaten that way) we went our separate ways.
Thanks for the event Drumsandspace. Nice to meet a real live Canadian. Cheers!!

A jovial bunch surrounded the timtams I dropped.on the table. Thanks for getting us together, it was a nice break from uni.
I'm always surprised at how easy it is to talk to geocachers even the brand new ones i.e. those who just made up their geocaching name at the event. There were two international geocachers on the Gold Coast at the event tonight. Thanks Drumandspace for the event and I hope that you enjoy your stay on the Gold Coast.
I had a great time eating Tim Tams and meeting some of the local gang. Thanks, everyone, for being so welcoming to a fellow commonwealther. And nobody was attacked by a drop bear: thanks, Radnoski, for bringing the vegemite and keeping us all safe.
It was great to attend an Australian event again - even if it was hosted by a Canadian! I enjoyed meeting some new people and chatting to a few I had met last time I was here in 2012. It was also lovely to see all the Aussie stuff people had brought to show the international visitors. Don't think there's anything more Aussie than Vegemite and Tim Tams! Thanks for organising this event, Drumsandspace, and happy caching on the Gold Coast.
Arrived to find quite a few geocaching friends around the picnic table trying to keep warm on this cold winters night.
Met our guest from Canada. Nice to meet you tonight.
We had a chat over a few caches and discovered a few TB's and GC's.
TFTE Thanks Drumsandspace All good with this Event

Tonight was a little get-to-gether to meet a Canadian.
It was a little chilly but for those that attended it was good to meet Drumsandspace. [^]
And also to meet a few new players to the game which this is their first 'cache'.
A great little event.
Thanks

It was dark when arriving at the park, but we saw a shelter with a bunch of people all in animated conversations. Has to be a bunch of Geocachers! Sure enough it was. Met a great Canadian guy who loves TimTams (not sure about the Vegemite) and Smiths Crisps. Some familiar faces (nice to see you again) and some new faces (always a good thing). And of course there was a number of TBs to discover. So thanks Drumsandspace for sharing your goals and aspirations with some Aussie Geocachers.
I had cached my way down the coast to this one and had finished with the very nearby cache.
It is always fun to meet other cachers, and especially nice to meet new cachers too. Good to see Drumandspace converting muggles during his visit.
Thanks for the TimTams - saintsmadhouse I think. Lots of pretty TBs to discover and a grand chat around the table. A variety of subjects around the table with many people meeting for the first time. Lots of cachers getting their event souvenir too.

I didn't realize how early it gets dark here when I was planning this event. I'm gonna try to show up around 5:30 if anyone wants to get there earlier.
I'm down in NNSW today but hope to make it back in time for this event. I earnt one of the souvenirs on Sunday and now I want more. It's funny what one will do to earn a little emblem on one's page. It's very cold down here (by Australian standards not Canadian) this morning so I intend to come laden in layers of clothes. Are there lights in this park? I'll bring a torch.
Don't suppose this event could be extended a few weeks?? I'll be in Broadbeach on Sunday 31st August for a few days on a girl's golfing trip and would love to attend in some way for the souvenir
I'm visiting from South Africa and would love to meet some locals as well as a Canadian. See you there!

Sadly we had to remove our attendance log as we have a birthday celebration for our daughter on that night which I had thought would be on the weekend!!
Oh my gosh it's just around the corner! Nothing much in that little park but I can bring some seats. There's a busy roundabout beside it but parking in nearby streets. Horse stables and racetrack nearby. Suggest insect repellant just in case.
Should be able to make it. Will bring some Vegemite to keep the drop bears away.
