Logs
New Zealand 2024 Day 2 : AlbanyDropped by here after a long trip from the South side of Auckland for a round of caching. The weather looks less punishing today, so heres hoping for a productive day out and about into Cache City. This is the specific log for this cache: With very clear instructions, this nano was pretty easy to find, no dramatics needed. No muggles here at this time of day, so the only difficulty were the usual log rolling to fit in the cache perfectly. TFTC!
Yes I love fantails. Signed.this over a week ago while in Albany and missed logging it then. It pays to check back sometime when you are caching with others and the party has moved on and your still trying to finish the last drink.
A nicely executed recovery if I must say. This appears to be the smoking hang for the staff at near by shop but being a Sunday it was quiet. TFTC
Finally I got it! No muggles at GZ so it was an easy pick-up. Tried several times over the years but the site was always busy.TFTC!
Out and about with Mrs NZT and the general Albany area was the target. Unfortunately some event at the stadium meant we had to avoid some of the areas but we were still kept pretty busy!Drove past this one a little earlier but there were people relaxing right next to the structure but as we parked up to grab some lunch it was clear coast so I nipped in for a quick find, sign and return...now onto lunch! Thanks for the cache.
I've given this one a drive-by before but found GZ filled with muggles, so had to try again, and since I was in the area for an FTF today, it seemed like the right opportunity! Took me a little bit to find the right direction, but the cache was in hand fairly quickly. TFTC!
I was in the area chasing a FTF but too late. So gave up on the other just published caches and decided to get a couple of close by caches instead. Cute fantails here and no problem with retrieval as it was a very quiet time. Tftc
**19,511**Finally in the area to avenge this blue face that has been haunting us for quite awhile now. This time is was a simple find - it always helps when the cache is actually there when you are searching for it. TFTC
Back in Albany to meet my partner before heading back to Hamilton.
I was a few minutes early, so I could either sit and wait in the car or take a wee drive to find another cache or two.
You can tell which one I picked.
Lots of cars around but people must have been inside and eating in one of the various establishments. A quick duck down and fiddle and I had the cache found.
Thanks G-2 and their bodyguard

Out for dinner with my beither who's visiting from Oz and WOW! So hard to be stealth here! Managed to get away to sign but had to play the very long waiting game to return it. TFTC
Couldnt spot it straight away but touching around got the lil guy. Luckily not too many muggles around today so didnt need to be too stealth. Signed the log & off we go. 4 nil lead to me so far
Just my luck!! I had just arrived early to meet my friend for dessert. Looking at the fantails and thought it would be a perfect place for a cache. Opened my app and what do you know. So did G2. Nice quick find here. TFTC
Good and quick cache before having dinner at Lone Star. Visiting from Australia
Easily found thanks to the description. Raining so no muggles. Good place to come if you are hungry. Tftc
After visiting Mitre 10 for the tenth time this month we couldn’t leave without finding this. Thank you G2
The Stik-A-Crane's planned to do the costal walk at Stillwater and the surrounding roads. Mr and Mrs HeMaLuDy decided to join them for the adventures. Beautiful weather allowed us to really enjoy the very pleasant coast and our day out. We had got to the end of the day, had dinner and needed a few caches to finish off with. Nice quick find here in the evening with no muggles around. Log very tight to remove so took it back to the car to be less obvious. Eventually removed the log. We cut a short length off the log to make it slightly easier for the next finders to remove. Party goers had by now come out of one of the close by restaraunts so we waited for them to move on before replacing the continer wher we found it. Appropriate cache to end our day with as we had seen lots of Fantails while caching today. TFTC
Had another go at this one, in the hope of turning that frown upside down and yet it still alludes us!
Second DNF for the day. Even with nobody about we couldn't find it. Maybe we were still in shock after being chased by a huge family of Pukeko just across the street at another cache and so we didn't have our wits about us. Thanks anyway and a nice place for a rest!
Muggle city around here, kids playing everywhere, when your 12 you can fit in here so a quick grab and run to car, then a quick run back and stash again

Found the cache no problem, but there didn't seem to be a log in it.
Took a picture just in case you want proof.

GZ was real quiet so it was a quick retrieval. Nicely camouflaged in plain sight. TFTC
What a delightful sculpture and clever hide. I love it when these cheeky little birds accompany me while searching for caches. We were very fortunate to be here on a public holiday - made for easy parking and we had the place to ourselves. It must be an absolute mission at other times. TFTC # 16,135
I had pre-found this cheeky little hide during lockdown 2 but no touch, no sign. Back today and straight to it again despite a muggle eating their lunch nearby. Added my name and replaced as found. T F T C G-2, just the 2 caches this time.
A trip after work into Albany to get a few 'essentials' after a morning spent on a conference call to the UK had eaten up half of my Labour Day. Oh well, it was an important call and I had the afternoon at my disposal. We parked in the main street and walked a big loop around the area and got a couple of caches when passing bay.

One of the spots that only geocaching would have taken us to. Labour Day as well so parking was easy. 4 cachers visiting from Nelson for the long weekend and leaving today - and signing as INSS. After the log was signed we all grabbed phones for photos of the fantails.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Enjoyed doing this cache with inss

A group arrived at the same time as us to eat there takeaway. Benefitted from having a 12 year old who could root around without raising an eyebrow
Tricky as 3 people sitting here looking at phones....
Went to Pita Pit while waiting.
Very well done here....!

Today with some free time I decided to go after some caches in an already known track for me. This one was close and I really like art, why not check it? And I found twoo good arts, a beautiful sculpture and a very intelligent camo. Well done both.

My daughter in law and I had to pick my son up nearby after a work Christmas event. We were a bit early so if was great to make the most of the darkness to grab a few of the caches in the area where muggles are frequently found. A quick sign and we were off again. A neat hide, thanks
Decided to head out for dinner today, and I fancied Burritos, so off to Flying Burrito Brothers it was. I dragged my other half out of the house and we leapt into the car. On the way I remembered that there was this cache nearby that I still had not grabbed, extra weird as I was working not far from here for 4 months. I needed today for my calendar, so time to grab this one.
Upon arriving at GZ there were very few muggles around and none of them were paying attention. I made the retrieve, signed and replaced all before anyone else showed up. Weird how I have been here so many times, but never really noticed this fantail.
After grabbing the cache it was time for margaritas (for me, not the driver) and burritos. Thank you for the cache and drawing my attention to this lovely sculpture. #881

Too many people around and we weren't exactly being circumspect. Will come back another time.
Furbies, Lillianz and I located this little guy after enjoying some Birthday Bubble Tea next door Thanks for the hide!
Watch out for the sharp grass. Found it with Loz and Furby whilst we drink bubble tea.
I arrived at GZ and found some local workers enjoying lunch in the sun, so went off and found a couple of nearby caches and came back. The coast was clear and the cache was soon in hand. Thanks G-2.
As it was a long weekend and today being better weather than yesterday, work having been done around the house it was a chance to get out and find the odd cache in the company of 11HPG11.
Today we managed to find a grand total of 58 caches with only 9 DNF's along the way, and even managed to be home by 4,30pm so as not to annoy Mrs Dragon too much (although privately I believe that she may rather enjoy a day at home without an annoying husband being about the house).
Setting out from Hamilton nice and early meant that we managed to locate quite a few caches without any traffic to contend with, in fact Auckland is rather pleasant early in the day without both people and vehicles to contend with.
Don't know how it happened but we had the place to ourselves and so the cache was very quickly located, and extracted to be signed.
Thank you to all the CO's for their hard work in making this day possible, in both the placing the caches and maintaining them. We both had a great day.

When Cats&Dragons suggested a day in Auckland collecting a few caches I was very keen. When I checked the weather forecast I wasn't quite as keen. Determined to stay dry I packed all my wet weather gears and my gumboots. Was happily surprised to not need any of this and we were treated to a stunning day of great weather and great caches. Logs were signed with either HOAC or a combination of our names.
Lucked out here and got a park right here, and no muggles around. Admired the art work, very cute. One of my fave birds. A quick find thankfully

#647. Cool little cache on a very cool piece of art that I didn't know was here. A few people around but just before the lunchtime rush I suspect, so easy enough to grab and replace.
The cache and logbook are in great condition.
Cache of the day done and my streak is kept up for one more day at least! Now I am waiting for my coffee and bap from Mitre 10 Mega around the corner. Of course it is school holidays so kids are running riot all over the place.
Thank you very much for the cache!

Found this one the other day on our way into Lonestar for dinner. Was a nice quick park and grab but stealth was definitely required. TFTC -
Nice easy one while in the area. In and out with a few passers-by. Great little sculpture. TFTC
Was in the area to visit a retailer around the corner. When I arrived, both businesses were closed, but Muggles galore sitting in their muggle movers. One finally left, one stayed but was focused on his phone. I walked around to assess the situation. Deciding it was safe to approach, cache was a quick grab. Back to my car, then later replaced. TFTC
Loved the rusty fantails. Found on the ground. Put back in place. Nice hide. Thanks.
Out on the North Shore for another Geocaching day of adventures with my son (2FLYTim) we approached this one and so I flustered around the sculpture trying to draw attention whilst Tim made the find & signed & put back. what a next little sculpture this is . . . . . thank you for bringing us here today
Out Geocaching around Albany with Mum (SethRaven) today and we try not to go past too many and take up the challenge of the "grab" whilst muggles are around even . . . . . so Mum and I both milled around this little statue checking it all over making out we were trying to see if there was a plaque as to who might have made it (cause it is quite cool) and I made the find . . . . . . we signed and replaced and moved on - great camo, thanks for the hide
Seeing that I was in Albany I thought I might as well try fo locate and sign off the caches I needed for my personal challenge.
I had to be a bit sneaky here.
Cheers for the cache.

MY first visit here and very impressed. Lovely area and handy spot to sit and complete the log. Tftc
After having breakfast nearby we went on a walk around the area to pick up a few nearby caches. There was no one around at GZ and we quickly located the well concealed cache.
Such a nice sculpture we had no idea was here.
We headed over to Tank for a celebratory smoothie afterwards. Thanks G-2.

Out collecting some of the albany caches today and as it started to rain we thought we would grab a bite to eat.once we had finished eating the sun was out and we noticed this cache was near by so we decided to grab it whilst we could.a nice easy find thanks to the description.stealth was required on this occassion but not as many muggles as we imagine there might be at other tines.
Last of the day and reached our target of 500 points for the planet souvenir and our 3000th find!!!!!
Well blended in cache, found and signed...over and out for the day, thanks Glyn.

Out for a few more planetary caches today and started here with this one. Managed to time it perfectly to not only turn up with no one around and sit in the perfect spot to retrieve as easily as possible.
Cool little spot and art, nice start to the day - TFTC

On a previous visit by myself there were too many muggles around to safely search for this one. Returned with Merlot58 for reinforcements (which weren't actually needed) so she stayed in the car while I made a quick find. The cache certainly blends in well.
#9819. A little wander after dinner in Albany. GZ was pretty quiet when we visited. Interesting sculpture. Found after searching right around. The cleverly done cache was not at the expected spot as per the geocache description, but hidden behind vegetation on the southern side. It was otherwise in excellent condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.
Replaced cache back on the northern side according to the geocache description.
Thanks for the placement and for bringing us to the site, and …

Thankfully it was reasonable quiet here this morning so could make a quick grab without being noticed. Cache is in good condition. TFTC.
Busy day, so I had to wait for a break in the customer flow before I could make the grab. TFTC.
Well I discovered a toddler playing with the Rusty Fantails so headed off to get a smoothie from Tank in the hope they may have gone by the time I got back. Sure enough, it was nice and quiet and I was able to sign the log in peace
Found it! Paper was a little damp so we were not able to write. TFTC was great fun with thousands of muggles around
Hadn't seen the email from Geocaching.com about the 300,000 active caches and a souvenir for finding a cache this weekend, until 7pm. So had a quick look at the maps and picked a close cache. Having not checked this area out before I thought it might be a good time to try and find it at this time of night... big mistake, probably one of its busiest times. Drove around 3 times and then parked out on Corban Ave and walked back.
Waiter from La Porchette (or what ever the French restaurant is) was outside on phone about 4m from cache, so I sat on the seats and waited, looking at watch now and again.
It didn't take too long before he turned around, so I nipped in for the grab (thanks for the exact instructions).
Signed log and just had to wait for him to turn again before replacing.
Picked up PitaPit for dinner, didn't know one was here, had always gone to the one in William Pickering (mind you, the parking is better, might still be worth going there). TFTC

Came here this morning for a continuation of my daily streak.....and three muggles wouldn't go away so it was off to Mitre 10 and thankfully when I got back they were gone. Spied the cache and the log was quickly signed. Loved the camo. TFTC
What a pretty sculpture and a perfect quiet muggle free sunday morning for collection. tftc
Found quickly with Charlie-Jo (3.5) after dinner at Lone Star. A few people around, but no-one paid us any attention. TFTC
Well disguised hide. Like it. Found on a late night excursion. Hmmm. Where to now...?
After finishing some work related activities nearby, I had some time to go and find a few caches before I had to head to the airport and home. I must have picked a quiet time in the area as there were no muggles about at all. Didn't take long to spot the very well camo'd cache. TFTC, Biggles.
I remember when this was published and then being thwarted the next time I was in the area and pretty much every time since to actually look for this cache. Today my daughter said she was hungry as we came to the round-about so I drove right around and entered the carpark in this lot of shops (I had completely forgotten about lunch and we wouldn't be home for a couple of hours). Since we were there anyway, I decided to discover The Rusty Fantails while daughter sorted out her food. Aren't they wonderful? would love this in my garden! Walked up to it and saw the cache right away (took longer to work out where the lid was then fining it because of the yellowy deposits - my escuse and I'm sticking to it), it's amazing how the CO is so good at hiding caches in plain sight. No-one would see it for what it is except a cacher. Nice camo job G--2. SO glad to have finally been able to stop here. When I got home GAR said he'd been there just a week or so ago to eat at the Japanese place - I asked him why he didn't look for it and got the sense that it hadn't occurred to him to look to see if there were any nearby. That's the sort of thing only I do obviously (except I have to rely on my pocket search, as I don't use data enough to have any on my phone). Thanks for the discovery G--2
Nice one and easy to find at 130 am. Took way longer to get the log out and then to write on the log with my pen. Nice hide. TFTC!!!
Awsome hide, saw it as I walked up. Just have to dodge a couple of pokemon go kids near the GZ
Great camo blends in well. log book hard to get out but got there in the end. Day two of a 4 day road trip from Hawkes Bay to Auckland and back to collect as many caches as we can. Log signed as b&p.Tftc
So glad I found the Rusty Fantails.....cos I also found La Porchetta, Pita Pit and Flying Burrito Brothers...all my favourites ! Didn't even know we had the FBBs in Auck !
Good one Glyn !
Good one Glyn !
Took the family for a geocaching experience after a nice dinner out nearby. Unfortunately we had no pen when I noticed there was a cache very nearby, so I stealthily borrowed one of the colouring in pens from the wonderful restaurant for the event. GPS was all over the show, but fortunately the geobro was familiar with the area and it's features and came up with the goods very quickly. A cool hide in a new area. TFTC!
On a road trip to Auckland for the day and then back to the north and while on the road picking up a few caches. It was lat in the afternoon when we got here so was fairly muggle free. Discreet quick find at the right moment. nice appropriate camo !! TFTC
Little ones are really good for this type of caches, they can crawl around totally unnoticed by adults TFTC
